Yeah, I found some wicked warhammer flash movies (See journal), and playing some Dawn of War, so I'm in a really gamey mood now.
And I've plans to start buying a new 40k army, so I decided some wyverny sketches based on my army of choice... ;)

To think, back when I played 40k, the Necrons didn't even exist (I used a small Dark Angel army). I got sick of the system when they kept making all the books obsolete and charging you for the latest version at a ridiculous turnover rate. I loved my copy of Orcs: "ere we go", only to be told that half the things in it weren't allowed anymore.
True enough, my soul truely lies with Warmachine. But in the complete absence of anybody to play with, I'm reverting to baser games. :P
And it is irritating that things can be out dated. GW is trying to make things aright with the "counts as" rule in the game, letting you field your older stuff as newer stuff. n.n

OOh, What kinda 40k army are you gonna build?
My Eldar army has kinda fallen into disuse, and I'm working on an Imperial guard company. Its gonna be a drop infantry, no vehicles, with lots of heavy weapons platoons, and they're gonna have upgraded armor saves so they don't get totally shot up.

Don't underestimate their scout rule, and their abilty to move through heavy cover, which gives them a 4+ chance to downgrade any hit to a glancing blow.
AR 10/10/10 might seem like a disaster waiting to happen, but in the right hands, I've seen sentinels used to devistating effect, especialled dropped behind enemy lines. ;)
And heavy weapons teams might seem like a great idea, but they're fire magnets and their middling Ld and low numbers means one good shot has them running for the hills with no chance to get them back. And Sentinels are still immune to small-arms fire (Well, Str 3 fire...) ;)
What would yourself choose to shoot at, a single sentinel, or a squad of Guardsmen with multiple heavy weapons? :P

I don't know how I feel about 40k. I want to do a hard sci-fi army, heavy on the nanotech, relying on sublight starships and such... I'm thinking Tyrranids are the best starting point, but I really do like the Tau battlesuits (LOL Gundam!)
Then I looked at the price tags associated with this stuff, and realized I can't afford to do a stock army, let alone kitbash my own unique models.

The three most advanced races are Eldar, Tau, and Necron.
Necron are the masters of nanotech, their "bodies" literally IS nanotech. :P
Eldar have a much more mystical and psychic technology. Lots of teleportation and speed there!
And Tau have the best, highest tech guns and armors. ;)

But how do I bring things like utility fogs and brushbots? I wanted the really creepy, totally alien looking stuff that makes hard sci-fi give people nightmares. Prey by Michael Crichton is a good example of a disassembler swarm that got loose.
Besides, the necrons are eeeeevil.

Well let's see, here's some technology examples....
Eldar Wraith cannons. Opens a pinpoint portal to another, hellish dimension. The lucky ones are the ones that have only parts of their bodies sucked into the miasma of madness that lie on the otherside...
Tau Rail Cannon. Ever seen a tank crew of four sucked out of their tank through a hole the side of a dime?
Necrons. Flayed ones. Enough said...

Even thought their immensely superior Gauss Flayer has the exact stats of a Standard issue Imperial bolter, with some minor rules added. ;)
Now in Battlefleet Gothic. There the Necrons shine as a becon of utter superiority! Enemy fleets get bonus victory points if they actually force a Necron ship to flee, or one disabled Necron ship can almost single handedly make you loose the whole battle. ;)

As I said, I'm a fluff nerd. Fluff being the rich background stories and information. In game mechanics, they must be limited for balance. In the fluff however, they are supreme. You can literally liquefy a Necron and it'll reform, Gauss Flayer and all. If given an energy feed, even fragment of a Monolith can regenerate the entirety of it, including all complex components such as the Portal and Gauss Flux Arc. The Gauss Cannon of the Destroyers is described as being so powerful and devastating that if the Imperials wished to duplicate it they would need a Titan to do so. They have technology that can actually suppress the warp. And they've built a freaking Dyson sphere (Shell type). In technology they reign supreme.
