So there I was, doing homework, when Ethan Black IMs me with "I'm waiting for a game to install. Need me to sketch any guns?" Well... several minutes later I end up pulling out the signature weapon for a freelance Steel Chef in Adipose City I haven't posted yet...
CulinX is a franchise-neutral weapon/equipment manufacturer in the universe of Adipose City that primarily specializes in gear for corporate security types. However, most of their products include secondary functions useful to culinary types. As a result the majority of their catalog, including the Heatwave AMPR, is as popular with Steel Chefs as it is with gun-focused Street Sumos.
The Heatwave Advanced Microwave Projection Rifle is a security-grade stun rifle that uses focused microwave beams to... well, stun. It also can be used to cook your dinner. Side effects of getting hit with one of these are limited to moderate amounts of bloating as the beam causes food in the stomach to absorb moisture and expand.
(Tech specs provided by Ethan Black)
The CulinX Advanced Microwave Projector Rifle (AMPR) 'Heatwave' was designed to fill demand for corporate forces on long-range patrols. The purpose of the weapon was two-fold.
1] Able to suppress anti-corporate dissidents.
2] A utility tool for 'tactical applications', namely the heating of food.
The Heatwave is capable of stunning a fur with uncomfortable levels of heat projected through the use of microwave radiation. This is projected to a point approximately 1m fore of the weapon's focusing plate [bottom left / front of weapon], and then expands again to a cone.
This allows the weapon to be used at shorter ranges for accurate applications, or as a 'crowd sweeper' the further the target is.
The plate is dynamically positionable for use with the inbuilt 'AnatomX' targeting computer [Left side of weapon body], automatically programmed to focus the beam centre (it's most focused area) upon the largest and most central mass of a person, for safety reasons. The AnatomX system or projector plate can be locked in the event of failure or need for specific precision.
The AnatomX can also be used to measure the BMI and adjust microwave beam strength to safe (or dangerous) levels at the discretion of the operator, data from which is fed into the X-Accuracy 'Holoscope' atop the weapon body.
The X-Accuracy Holoscope provides both the AnatomX information as well as ranging and leading information provided by itself, warning the user about obstructions, impenetrable materials and even 'active scan' microwave vision, allowing the weapon and Holoscope to be used as a sort of 'microwave searchlight' in stealthy situations.
Both the X-Accuracy and AnatomX system are powered by a small Radioisotope battery [Upper Right Image] in the rear of the upper weapon body, above the thumb-hole of the stock, providing over 1000 hours of operation before decay.
The weapon's stock is a robust polymer construction, built to withstand the rigours of patrol use, but is unfortunately non-telescopic.
The upper front of the weapon body contains a large heat sink, designed to dissipate heat from the working weapon parts passively, allowing the weapon to run continuously (provided it has sufficient main battery power). The heat sink does not glow, but may be visible to infrared optical equipment.
Lastly, the main battery used is a medium-lifespan 1400mm capacitor battery. It is suitable for storage of up to a year, provided the attached heater clip remains attached to the unused battery.
The heater clip is designed to loop power into a contained heating element within the battery, keeping it stable. Battery power, however, does drain slowly over time in storage, but in barracks, batteries can be connected to a power source to keep them fully primed via a hookup on the heater clip.
These batteries provide up to ten minutes of continuous operation for a Heatwave rifle, and can be discarded immediately as the casing and all but a few small components are biodegradable for clandestine operation.
