If he was slime free, that wouldn't bode well for his tentacle friends, and thus be bad for him. Also, some of the stuff that looks like grime is a part of his body. Like the green stuff around is eyes is scale like.
I've sort of thought about what he'd look like if he were human just out of my own curiosity, but I haven't really settled on anything.
