For those who don't know: Ever heard of "Night Blindness", ie - The inability to see at night? Well, I am quite the opposite, I have "Day Blindness". As in I cannot see in normal/bright light. Thus called "Photosensitivity" or "Photophobia" (though it is not a fear as the latter name would imply, that's just what eye doctors call it). Such lighting is painful to me and has been since Puberty, so no, this is not the result of staring at a computer screen in a dark room over several years (since I didn't get a computer of my own until December 2003).
People get pissy at me for using low watt bulbs and keeping my house a little darker than average, saying "OMG, this is a sign of depression! You must be DEPRESSED!" Umm, no. This is a sign of "BRIGHT LIGHT HURTS MY EYES AND I CAN'T BLOODY SEE!" So, in an effort to make my life a bit more comfortable, I am nocturnal by nature (and can see damn well in near total darkness since I don't need much light to see by) and I make an effort to minimize bright lighting as much as possible.
Thus, I share with you this:
I found this particular theme, called "OldFactory Black" and decided to try it out. Personally, I like the Steampunk aspect to it. Then I customized it by clicking "Tools" up top, then clicking "Customize" in the drop menu there, and then go to the "Content" tab. The top two pictures are screen shots of the settings I use for color and font, the bottom is a screen shot of the result.
If you like the theme and use Firefox, then grab it here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fi.....fox/addon/3941
And this is a preview page for it: http://www.mozilla-theme-oldfactory.de/preview.php
For those who want Firefox and don't have it yet, you can Download it here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/
*smiles* Now I have no more "OMFG IT BURNZ US!!!" reaction to web pages that insist on using white backgrounds. >.<

Ayup. And not only are my eyes light sensitive (and I get sunburns way too easily), but I also have sensitive hearing and am rather touch sensitive as well. Plus my sense of taste (I've been able to taste bread mold from an untouched piece from one end of a loaf that had only one tiny solitary spot clear the other end of the loaf) is more sensitive than some, and I've been able to pick up smells other people can't as well.
O.o I'm such a freak... >.<

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one.
When it's overcast, and grey, I enjoy it, but I still need my superdark sunglasses. Bright sunlight, no way. I'll squint and wear my shades, but it doesn't help and I usually end up triggering a cluster headache that I get on a fairly regular basis.
As to other senses being better than average, my sense of smell and hearing are added to that list.
Should you ever want to chat about this or other ailments, please feel free to contact me.

Yeah, pretty much all of my senses seem to be sharper.
I decided to post this mainly because I was fairly certain that I wasn't the only one who is light sensitive. Hell, I even adjusted the desktop theme color scheme so everything would be darker and not so blinding. I wish that would work for messengers though. >.< Bloody IM windows are blinding as all hell. *whines*

I for one Thank You for the addition of the FF Theme. I've looked around for quite a while to find one that did the trick for me, and it worked!
As to the IM... if you're using Yahell, you can adjust your IM to be as dark as you want through the multiple popups that take you to where you can set up your profile for the IM and background. I know most are quite bright, but if you dig around some, I'm sure you can find what you need. I just wish you could alter the borders and everything besides the stark white... like you can for your "My Yahoo" page.
As far as other IM programs, I'm not too familure with them, so I can't offer any information on them... sorry.
I just wish there was a way to incorporate the same style of themes to IE and other windows applications instead of having to go into the properties screen for the OS and adjust it all manually. Micro$haft can be so anal about such things.

Sorry to say, but after some investigation, it seems that the yahoos at Yahoo had removed that feature and now with the latests versions, you can no longer alter what they want you to have. You can change it, but only to what they want you to have. I'll check around and see, but I'm sure there is another way. Sorry about thaat.
The desire for total control. Just like thier censoring the groups, and content you can search for (safe search - etc.)
If you want to chat sometime, you can reach me at Klydesdale63 on the Yahell IM.
But I have to run now and get my tail off to work.
I hope you have a good day!
