furnygma was doing these nifty pinup/portrait commissions over the holiday break. So I grabbed a couple. :) I've commissioned him previously for some superhero things of Aram and Rooth'roo, and a gift for Spunky. At some point, he did a cool sketch page for me, though I don't recall why. Heh.This first one is, clearly, Cinnamon. With all her gloriously fun markings and leafyclothes. Pandora has some strong leaves, you see, so this getup is totally practical there. No, srsly! >.> Though this piece does make me wonder what sort of music they have on Pandora. Never really heard the Na'vi sing, except at the Tree of Souls, during that ritual. Is one of the things I thought was missing from the movies .. some sort of musical culture. You'd think a people with that much bounty would have lots of free time on their hands to come up with various forms of entertainment.
Hmmmm.

A lot of Avatar fans, myself included, would be very surprised if they DIDN'T include more of the language -- which is now past 1,700 words and still growing.
As for the Na'vi and their music, I'm sure Pandorapedia, the Avatar wiki, and/or the Activist's Survival Guide, would help in that regard. The Avatar soundtrack has been one of the most heavily-played in my library ever since I purchased it -- literally 5 minutes after I saw the movie for the first time in January 2012 (and I'm still kicking myself for not having seen it in the theatres two years earlier). Gotta love iTunes ;)

It was for several reasons. I was (1) too busy at the time, (2) very disgusted at the relentless in-theatre pre-show advertising at the last movie I'd seen (Star Trek in spring 2009), and (3) a bit turned off by all the hype, although in fairness I have to say that excessive hype will turn me off almost anything.
I bought the Collector's Edition on Blu-Ray in August 2011 despite not owning a player at the time. I had heard a lot of nice things about the Blu-Ray presentation and figured on buying a player at some point in the near future. Like most in my profession, I'm extremely busy, but I eventually bought a pair of $70 Dynex Blu-Ray players at Best Buy just after Christmas 2011, and one night just decided to lie down on my bed and watch it. I opened the slip case to see a pair of yellow eyes and the words "Oel ngati kameie" ("I See you") and remembered thinking, "what the Hell does THAT mean?"
Needless to say, I got a pretty damn good education over the next 2 hours and 40 minutes ;)

The home theater 3D isn't quite as good as the big-screen stuff (though my screen is nearly 100"), but it's a good approximation. I was nervous at first, because I'm very picky about 3D, and this new projector was .. well .. new, it didn't have a lot of reviews yet. But I'm pretty happy with it, for the cost. :) I think it's the best available in this price range. It'll even upgrade 2D to 3D. O_O I watched Gladiator that way, and was sort of amazed. Not quite as good as true 3D of course, but not really any artifacts to speak of, so long as I kept the 3D depth setting low.
At the risk of necroposting, I finally did get to see Avatar in 3D, courtesy of no less than the producers themselves. See: https://www.flickr.com/photos/mikko.....57645342539557 (I'm the one in the green hat)
