I just attended Con-G this weekend and with some careful arrangements managed to get into costume as Seyla for a portion of Saturday, got some professional photography done and even attended the Masqerade as a non-compete! It was a lot of fun, and I tried a couple of tricks to stay cool without removing my head and even learned one by accident along the way. These combined allowed me to go over 2 and a half hours without taking my head off once.
A big bonus this year is that I made huge strides in fitting the head so that the Jaw now syncs well with my own. I think I can still make minor adjustments to make it feel more natural for me, but at least for Con-G I was finally able to open and close Ceyla's mouth freely!
Con G was rather cramped, it was in a small hotel Delta in Guelph with nearly 1500 attendies, so hallways were cramped and crowded and full of obstacles, a friend of mine helped as my handler though, and I got to show my suit all over the con.
I honestly did so well in suit that I believe I will try to push myself a little more at Furnal Equinox and see if I can't spend more time in character and have some fun.
A new addition this convention is the sword, it's a larping sword made out of an extremely durable foam and painted with the handle taped to make it more solid. The Blade keeps its shape and looks entirely solid unless subjected to physical stress (Twisting, striking, etc) in which case it will yield harmlessly. It is designed to take a lot of punishment in the form of actually hitting other people during LARP. I chose this type of sword even though I do not plan to larp so I could never accidentally break it by hitting it against something I couldn't see or even sitting on it.
I learned a lot about costuming and prop making and I believe I have enough knowledge to build a simple buckler to hold in my other hand. I'm aiming to have it done to wear at Furnal Equinox!
Again, This entire outfit (minus the sword) is a
beastcub creation. If you like the look of the character and want a suit of your own, you should seek to commission her yourself!
Oh, and if you find any pictures of me in other people's galleries, please let me know, I love seeing them.
