100 Minis! A Sketch Commission Event!

Mini Commissions!
Hello, everyone! As part of my drive to earn money for my Final Year Show (FYS) in
2011, I'm relaunching commissions. To start things off, I've decided to roll out
Mini Sketch Commissions with a never-done-before (by me, anyway) offering of 100 slots!
1. 'Mini' Commissions? Why 'mini' and not 'chibi' or even 'super deformed' like
others have done?
I chose to use 'Mini' as my style doesn't fit the usual examples of Chibi/SD art.
Barring a few tweaks in anatomy and proportion, they look more like miniature
versions of the character rather than the physiological skewing that's
characteristic of Chibi-styled pieces. Hence 'Minis'. :)
2. Ok, cool. I hear that...but why $11 and not $10?
I'm charging $11 as I found out through real-world experience that PayPal's shaving fees from incoming payments, unless said payments are being sent as gifts. Needless to say, I was peeved and therefore forced to address that issue in my pricing. By charging $11, I can have the $10 per Mini that I need and PayPal can have their fees.
Also, payments sent by gifts are non-refundable and I doubt that would sit well with
my clients who've never interacted with me before. This way, it's Win/Win for all
parties.
3. 100 slots? Wow, isn't that ambitious?
Yes, it's ambitious. It's highly ambitious, especially with another gruelling semester
coming up. But my idea and plans for my FYS are also very ambitious, and that level of ambition needs money. Plenty of it.
Also, a friend and commissioner suggested that I offer it in this manner. For one
thing, it would cut down on the need for me to constantly advertise and keep people interested if I did my usual 5 or 10 slots. In keeping with outside pressures and time available, I'm restricting each of the Mini Sketches to 1 (ONE) character only WITHOUT a background. Also, minimal toning will be done.
I should also say this: the Minis will be G-rated, PG at the most. Just
thought I'd state this up front.
4. So, I notice that you didn't mention shipping. Why is that?
It would not be cost-effective to ship the drawings physically. I live in Jamaica
and postage costs (much like damn near everything else) is expensive, which would
mean that I'd have to charge a lot more than $11 to make a comfortable profit. In
this recession, I doubt that would please anyone.
Instead, I have opted to send my clients a high-resolution scan of the pieces. This
method has proven popular with prior clients, so I've decided to stick with it. Each
client will receive their hi-res version via e-mail, whereas the finished low-res
editions will be posted on-line in batches of 10.
5. Well, colour me sold! What do I have to do to get my Mini?
Glad to have you on board! Here's what I ask of you:
1. Send full payment of $11 via PayPal to leo_hime_san [at] hotmail [dot]
com. If full payment is not received, I will not hold a slot for you and I will
not start the work. If you can't afford to pay at this time, please wait until you
can to pay for a slot.
2. Send an e-mail to petaann [at] gmail [dot] com with the following:
- Your full name and user name(s) (for my records), and an alternate
e-mail address if available.
- A description and reference images (the more, the better) of the
character that you wish me to draw for you. I do original character commissions as
well as fan-art.
Further details can be discussed in private via the Internet.
6. Hang on! Your ad says 'Limited Time Offer'. When is the deadline to sign up
for a Mini?
I'm going to be lenient and give until March 31, 2010 for interested
parties to sign up. Why a cut-off date? I have other 2011 FYS Fundraising projects
that I'd like to launch in late Spring - Summer 2010, so I'd rather not be signing
up for those events as well as this at the same time.
That seems to be it! Feel free to ask further questions if you need something
clarified. and I look forward to doing business with you!
