Various processes

General
I was just now asked about my painting process.
I've uploaded some step-by-step things before, but it was shortly after joining FA so it might be worth pointing to again:

Also this one:

However, what often happens is that I'll reach a time while painting when I just want to keep going. When I'm done with the drawing and compositioning stages, and everything is humming along with the actual rendering, I tend to forget to stop and document as many in-between steps.
That first picture/set is probably the most useful visual explanation ("Absalom").
Lately though, I've been doing a little more scrubbing and blotting to help pick out details, using a clean brush, water and a rag.

nice to see the technique. Though I almost never work in real media anymore it makes me want to go back (I'm much more experienced with watercolours though)

I had somehow missed these. Thank you for sharing them. I like gouache too but my results have been less than successful.

OP
I tend to use it more like watercolor, or even mixed with watercolor, with lots of glazing and use of transparency until I get near the end of an image and then apply it more opaquely for specific detailing. Keep trying! If you torture a technique long enough, IT WILL CONFESS.

You, sir, are amazing. I'm adding this to my bookmarks for easy-reference. I can't believe how well you handle gouache! I should fuss around with that more.
