I made a script that reloads FA's ad server a couple times and downloads all the ads it finds and makes it's own ad page. I don't think it works anymore due to some change in the site or something.

I'm signing this petition though hoping for an official ad page though.

Not sure if OpenX (FA's ad software) supports this though.

I agree. Though, it would likely be a LONG time before FA actually takes the time to add such a thing. Considering the commission tab that existed back when I joined broke, was left there a year, then was removed despite how convenient it was. (And easy it would have been to fix/remake)
I've also seen 3 promises of a major site redesign over the past 3 years ; n; 3 years and hardly any productive changes have been made.

Given that I have seen a recent increase in the number of people who post "know any artists doing cheap commissions?" journals, I would like to support this petition.

I TOTALLY agree with this. Being an ad holder, and one who also clicks on ads a lot, it'd be exceptionally helpful!

I love the idea of an ad index. Would make it nice to find people looking for work when I am looking for art. ^^

Might be too much to ask for, but think it would also be nice to have a way to sort ads by fetish/preferred type of art/how long it has been up. Stuff like that.

I love the idea of an advertisement index as well, BUT, and although it would very well help the people that are advertising, it does NOT help the workers of this site, nor their wallets. We pay a fee to hold an advertisement space, and fairly so every advertiser is rotated in a completely fair way. Every time you refresh a page you are dealt a random four ads, which is fairly randomised in that all ads are randomized. We pay for that.

The issue with having an Ad Index is that it is NOT fair. Having an alphabetized list of advertisers would mean someone is always at the top of that list, and whenever someone clicks to that page they are always going to see the first ads in the list way more often than the ones at the very bottom.

I say merely to suggest that it wouldn't be optimally fair.

Another issue is that if you are constantly refreshing a page and never seem to get the ad you saw just that once again, that means that their monthly time is up and they haven't paid to renew, to which they are no longer in circulation, in which case if you're attempting to find them on the index they should no longer be there as well.

I don't want to say that I know a lot about it, but for the work that the Moderators and script writers and god knows whoever else does for this site, that finding a way to fairly introduce an ad index would be more coding headache than help.

I never said the list would be alphabetized. It could be sorted in other ways too. By tags, or by interest, or specialization or maybe even an option to view random order, just still all of them. And just because someone is listed first doesn't mean they'd get all the business. Some people may be looking for something different or have already seen and decided not to take that artist.

As for the coding, they could use the browsing feature as a template, so it's not as hard as you may think. As for random, well, that's never fair, because there is a chance, small as it may be, that the ad never gets seen at all. They could have them all in a list that cycles through on the pages when it refreshes rather than random, it it'd still be very little work.

You're right, ad holders pay fees for a certain amount of time. That doesn't mean your ad will show up as much as everyone else's.

If ads were random everywhere, take a newspaper for example? If they only showed a random set of ads each issue, a lot of people would be paying the same amount for less exposure, so they have all ads together on one page. That's what I'm talking about. A classified section where people can look for ads relevant to what they need. It would cost very little money and effort on FA's part to make this happen.

Although, on second thought, they still haven't fixed the quote boxes, so you may be right.

I didn't mean to getcha so riled, just to play a little devil's advocate. I'm hoping that the leaders of the new FA are taking to fix issues and make new things geared to what people are most complaining of.

But when they DO have the time for something like this, as I said, I'd be more than happy to see it happen, though in so hoping that the cost of taking out an ad per month isn't hiked to something unreasonable by proxy.

Yes, I do believe we should have a page for ads, it wouldn't be that difficult to put up would it? I think it would help out the people who own the ads as well as the people who want to get some nice commissions ^^

You're right. That's a really good idea. If you get this across to the admins, I'm prepared to vote in favor of it. Even if it means that advertising rates increase by a buck or two for the added feature, I feel it would be beneficial.

*wanders in from nowhere* That would be cool. Something similar just started here. The  commissions group is free advertisement. I know it isn't linked to the FA ads but they have commission price sheets from many artists, or will eventually.

I'd be in favor of something like this. FA is the only place I actually really look at the ads, too, and feel that it'd be a great thing to have, even if its just a small link at the bottom that doesn't get used that often.
