Despite rumors, FA's actually maintained a very high uptime over the past two years. We dislike downtime as much as anybody else, but it can often be an evil necessity to help improve site performance (as we saw recently), perform maintenance and make upgrades. Given the hubbub from the recent outage while we upgraded our SQL server, I figured I'd share the above. If not just because it's interesting (given the site's past).
Despite multiple DDOS attacks, outages for upgrades, planned maintenance or more... we've been holding up rather well. We'd still like to be better, and are working towards that. FA used to be known for outages (almost daily) early on, but we've dramatically improved. And we like/hope to think that shows.
We know a lot of work still needs to be done on the site, as we've got a long way to go. Still... we like progress all the same.
Note: Outages are recorded as any period where the site is not responsive for more than 5 minutes (this could be due to a variety of reasons). It also doesn't track the "FA is Offline" message when we have the site in lock down mode. Still, the numbers are fairly representative, and we're looking to improve them further.
Note 2: I started recording FA's uptime via Pingdom shortly after we moved datacenters. At Ironpath (our old host), we were constantly having outages, breakdowns and other major issues which were causing no end of headaches. Uptime was in the low 90%'s at that time. Not very good numbers, we admit.

Was it that.
I hope it wasn't.
Please not with your actual cock x3
I've had awesome performance with the site
jk man, people exaggerate things alot
Shure, just as long as things go our furry way.
I agree with the general public about this site having ALOT of issues that need to be addressed, but I don't think downtime is one of them. I think people get too dependent on FA for a distraction and get piffy when they have to find new ways to entertain themselves for a few hours.
But yes, I, as an user, am thankful to all of yuu all :B
Nobody cried for their loss. We had to fight them to get our servers back and threaten legal action.
Given there is no giant company backing FA, I think it's been going well despite the amount of BW, cost and time everyone spends making sure people are happy.
... Sorry, had a flash back for a moment there =)
I always think of it when FA goes offline.
But if it's not tracking the "FA is offline" stuff then it's not really indicative of downtime.
Also you haven't fellated me lately. What am I paying you for??
Hoorah! *fist pump*
*bows*
when I see people bitching, not giving helpful critiques or advice, but really just BITCHING about the site, I wanna say "then why don't you just go? just skip away...skip skip skip...", but of course I don't say that cause shit storms have started over less x3
despite all haters, you guys and gals still have a lot of people who are thankful for having a site like this and for the time and work all of you put into it
we love you
I appreciate the work that you do to provide such an awesome site
However, despite any irked feelings I have had toward the site functionality- I am glad that FA is here and online. So, thank you.
And yeah, there will always be people bitching. This is the furry fandom, after all. :P
If I was going to complain, I'd do it about valve's server power failure that it took them 5 or 6 hours to announce.
Seriously though, thank you for all the effort you put into this site. I know it's not easy!
Dragoneer, I appreciate the long hours it takes, and I'm glad your dedicated team has kept such a high uptime percentage. Keep up the good work!
Shutting down for maintenance, a fix, or an up-grade are all cool since you and FA always try to post a heads-up a couple of days in advance and most of us can manage to find something ELSE to do during that time, like draw, or write, or even (gasp!) talk to a friend on the phone.
