To celebrate the launch of Prydwen: Gods and Monsters, Fur Affinity, Sofawolf Press and 
LadyFoxglove are teaming up to deliver a launch party contest!
We're looking for artists of all shapes, sizes and skillsets to join in the giant fanart jam fest.

If say I won, cause yes I'm going to try my hand at this one... -_- I'd be happy to gift my certificate to anyone that wanted it. That's if I won of course, just saying...
Unless of course this is going to be turned into an advertising system, in which case it might be fair to allow people to just pay for it and it be open to all comers on an equal basis.
Why are only a very select few getting access to these advertising opportunities when there are so many people, comics, portfolios &c. on FA which could benefit from them?
Either the site news system should be reserved for actual FA news like "we're fixing the site"(I don't see anything wrong with promoting charity stuff with it) or else Dragoneer ought to just say that the news feed is for advertising and let it be open to all members of the community, whether free or or on a pay basis.
In addition, FA does already have an advertising system which could have been used to promote the launch of this book and the competition.
Raising money for charity is a bit different to puffing someone's attempt to "chart-bomb" itunes or Amazon, or sell copies of their book.
Either the FA news feed ought to be used for news, and the advert system for adverts, or else this ought to be thrown open to everyone.
It's also, as said, a bit of a slap in the face for people who have to pay for adverts and carries the risk that people may stop paying attention to the site announcements.
It's also pretty easy to figure out that "oh that's a promo contest never mind" versus "hey here's an actual site announcement".

You do definitely raise some points that need to be worked out, IMHO.

This also starts to intersect with FA not getting their act together with paid-accounts or offering web-space and whatever else they were going to do to raise money and re-claim the malarial code marshes to fix the sites problems (VCL has folders, but FA doesn't after 7 years!).
FA costs a lot of money to keep going; the more self supporting FA is, the less dependent it is on the pockets of a few individuals, and the more secure it is. Advertising can play its part and it would make sense to use the site announcements for that.
1. Lynn and folks at FA devise contest idea.
2. Contest organizers approach us as publishers of the print version of Lynn's comic if we'd like to donate a prize.
3. We donate prize.
End of story.
That's a bit of a slap in the face to the people who have to pay for adverts and don't get the privilege of having them as an official site news announcement.
Using the site announcement system for promoting products also carries the risk that people may ignore the announcements because they'll assume it's all just adverts and then when some FA news, like an AUP change or downtime, needs to be announced, people will be far less likely to look at it.
Please re-read my response: we are not responsible for the contest in any way other than providing one of the prizes. Our contribution was done at the the request of those who ARE responsible for conceiving of, organizing and promoting the contest. Complaining about any aspect of the contest to me (or to Sofawolf Press) achieves little.

I think that either it should be open to everyone by paying for an announcement and journal, or else it ought to be used for charitable things only.
Especially since the announcement dismissal is ridiculously flaky and sometimes resets on relog.
I think the sheer arbitrary nature of this is the big problem. If people can get special treatment because they've got acess to Dragoneer that is no good at all.
As I said above, I think it'd be fairer if the field was open to everyone by paying for an announcement/journal like this, or it was for charitable things only.
Found a few nice artists from the ad banners actually.
In fact, mostly morons use adblock for any other purpose than blocking pop-ups and scripts... or really, really intrusive banner ads possibly. FA has none of that.
In this day and age, people just don't want to bother with ads.
It's also possible to configure adblock so that it doesn't block everything on every site, so even people with adblock can see ads on FA if they choose.

This means that while a style similar to the comic's is OK, it is encouraged that we try to use our own style to portray the characters?
I ask this because many cases if doing a traditional art on commission, it will then belong to the person that commissioned it or in this case the creator of the comic ..
Also where do we send our contest entries in to ? if we chose to enter ?

why cant people just enjoy a little contest here and there. i dont see a problem at all. so what if the site itself hosts a contest? participate or go on with your life.

And OMG at the comments here. If you're so hurt about someone getting "free publicity" think of this instead as getting the message out to those who might not otherwise find out about such great prizes. When we're talking thousands of dolars in prizes I think I'd be more upset not to have known it was going on.
I had a couple of ideas for entries and sketched them out, decided to go with painting/rendering my other composition... But I liked this sketch a lot and it seems collaboration is accepted so thought I'd offer if anyone wants to paint over it I'd be happy to let you have any winnings unless it placed in which case I'd ask that you throw me some advert time
If this is against the rules let me know and I'll only let one person collab with it or not accept any winnings or w/e.

If anyone wants to help I'm going politely ask the admins and particularly Dragoneer if they could give an update on the contest results. And if there is no reply I'll start messaging other contest entrants to do the same.
I'm sure there are some unforeseen issues but 3 weeks is defo too long.
