Red Lantern fanwork contest

Seems to be a fun trend nowadays to do these fanart contests, so I figured. . . what the hey, why not get in on this? I love seeing fanart and whatnot, and I have a few nifty things I could give away.
Red Lantern is a collaborative comic put out by myself and
Alectorfencer for volume 1.
In volume 2, I will be joined by

I'll list what everyone's interested in first. . . the prizes ;)
3rd place - A voucher for $25 off of anything I sell either here on FA, or at my table at conventions. This applies to all artwork/cds/jewelry/auctions/whatever that I sell, personally. This does not apply to the publishers who carry my comics!
2nd place - A signed copy of Red Lantern Volume 1, and a voucher for $50 off of anything I sell either here on FA, or at my table at conventions. Again, this applies to all artwork/cds/jewelry/auctions/whatever that I sell, personally. This does not apply to the publishers who carry my comics.
1st place - A cameo spot in Red Lantern: Conviction, the second volume of Red Lantern. This essentially means you get a COMMISSION from me, since I'll be handling this cameo personally. The cameo has a few limitations, which you should read:
Only natural animals, with natural color patterns to their fur. If you have hair, I reserve the right to make it appear more natural than styled.
Only carnivores/omnivores. Herbivores are not anthropomorphized in Red Lantern.
The cameo can be one of two scenes. Either:
1- Guest at a trade gathering/party
2 - Soldier/Sailor in the Amurescan or Carvecian navy
OR, for those of you not interested or without applicable characters for the cameo:
A single-character, colored commission of your character, with a flat-color background. By me, obviously :P
As for the contest submissions itself, I'll accept ANY fan-made material, whether it be art, music, costumes, Red Lantern themed. . . food. . . whatever! It should somehow involve Red Lantern characters, regalia or whatnot. You may enter as many times as you want! And for goodness sake, yes, if someone out there goes crazy and does something with a fursuit, you will DEFINITELY get my attention.
The ONLY category I cannot accept, for purely legal reasons, is writing. This is because I cannot legally read Red Lantern fanfiction from this point on. I've heard too many horror stories about writers being sued by fanfic writers who thought the canon works were taken from their stories. So I'm sorry, writers. . . I would LOVE to accept writing. I love fanfiction. I just can't :(
However, I CAN accept poetry. Oddly. So if you're a writer, try out some poetry. I'd love to see it!
The contest begins now, and ends July 31st (my birthday :P). Post your submissions right here on FA, and shout me about them, PM me about them, what have you.

Just keep in mind, I'd want to see them credited for it. And if it won, we'd have to work out how the prize would work. . . .

If not, I understand completely; I'll still do the piece because I really do like it - it may end up just being a piece more for me than anything if I'm not allowed to submit it for the contest - but I'd still like to give it a shot.

If Amon played an instrument, given his species (Jackal) and general "Egyptian" trappings (e.g. the loincloth he often wears on the job) I feel like an Oud, Zurna, recorder, tambourine, or doumbek would be appropriate.
The Amurescan/Carvecian sailors (for the most part) have a more "European" air, so violin, guitar, trumpet, tin whistle, flute, etc. would certainly fit (although the instruments might be a bit worse for wear, having been at sea for any length of time.)
Just my... whaddaya mean it's TWO cents now? Blasted inflation!

My work wont be as good as others but i'll try my best, i love your comics :3
I can't recall offhand if you have your own site, but it might be nice to display a small gallery of your favourites after the contest finishes, as well as just the winners -- gives the creators a bit of exposure, and you get to show off cool stuff that people have done with your IP :3
Once Red Lantern is OVER, however, I plan to go and read 'em all. So if you're willing to wait. . . .

Also, I don't know if this has been asked yet, as there are a lot of comments to sift through, but if I do draw a fanart would it be alright to post it on other websites other than FA? I know some artists don't like their work (and yes, I include characters in on this because those are practically an artist's babies) on particular sites, I wouldn't want to offend you by featuring your characters on a website you would never want your work on. (websites in question are dA, inkbunny, sofurry)
Also no collar as a prize makes me sad, they haven't been sold for ages :(.

That doesn't make sense. Not the legal worries, I get that; the restriction to writing alone. What exactly would stop an artist from suing over a visual element (say, a background) they added in a work of fanart if they later felt that one of your own visual elements was too close? If you're viewing any sort of fan work, you're opening yourself up to those kinds of allegations; whether it's art or writing shouldn't make a difference.
*shrugs* Trust me, I think it's stupid, too.
I know its way past the date ^^ but I wanted to put this up... who knows, someone may like it!
If I participate in this contest I'll have to remember NOT to do my usual 'one-shot fanfiction blurb' description! XD
Also, I had a small thought. Just curious, would you be opposed to fanart of these characters not relating to the comic, but in an alternate universe situation? I don't know what kind I'm thinking of, it was just a thought!
