As you've probably heard by now,  beastcub's sister  wolfgem, (Gemily), was hit by a car. To review, the car also hit Gemily's boyfriend  elden, (Hari), and their four dogs. The dogs were all killed. Gemily was clipped; she has a rod in her leg keeping the bones together so they can knit properly, her foot is badly swollen and her leg is bruised where it's not missing bits of skin. (She's in better spirits lately, eating and so on.) It could have been much worse if Hali hadn't pushed her out of the way; his pelvis is broken in two places and he's lost a leg, (along with assorted bumps, scrapes and bruises. He's on a ventilator and feeding tube; he'll be spending the next 3 weeks in ICU!)

The car was doing about 80mph turning a corner, which is probably why it ploughed through a stop sign before smacking the loose group diagonally. The driver did not stop and AFAIK has not yet been caught.*

beastcub and her family are now considering the enormous cost of Gemily's and especially Hali's hospital stays and subsequent treatments. You can help in three ways.

* UPDATE -- According to the Sacramento Bee, the California Highway Patrol believe they've caught the driver. Their suspect has quite a police record; several DUIs and license suspensions, plus possession, assault and theft-related charges. Ugh!
Even so folks, coincidence does not indicate causality and a suspect is innocent until proven guilty. He gets his fair trial first, then we hang 'im.

UPDATE -- beastcub reports that Hari is doing well, but is still in the ICU, while Gemily is feeling much better from all the support she's gotten online and from the community. She loves him more than ever and they intend to get another dog once this is over, (no word on which breed.)

UPDATE -- beastcub reports that Hari is dead. He finally succumbed to his injuries despite everything doctors could do. He and Gemily got to speak earlier, at least. He was a hero and a lover. Whatever comes after this life, may it be kind to Hari. That seems so trite now...
