i'm a '90s kid. and i mainly got into it through sonic~ (though i hadn't even heard of sonic untill the gamecube games)
from my liking of sonic~ i grew fond of other furries as well, some pokemon, some digimon. a little of everything xD

I think old Disney and Looney Tunes cartoons will be around forever and keep bringing people into the Furry Fandom

it was a weird show with a lot of adult humor that went over our heads (that makes us laugh now we're old enough to understand), but eh, it had some kind of appeal that's hard to put my finger on.

Personally i fell in love with Sonic The Hedgehog when i was pretty young ( 3 or 4 ). So i kept up with him and when puberty hit, i think we all had the same reflex and looked it up on the internet ^_^'

Nothing 'turned' me Furry. I have been furry since I was too young to ever watch movies. Born that way you can say. Ate cat food like a cat, preferred eating all my food like that. Drank water like that. Secretly used the litter box like a cat too lol. Cat's aren't even my favourite animals.
And was born into it because his Dad was furry before he was ever born. Some are born into it, some have influence. I don't think any movies or anything I ever watched helped develop my furry side. Mrow! ^_^

Felix Cat and Ninja Cats - this is the only console's game that can be attributed to the furry fandom. In which I had to play. (Sonic I did not taken root - because I did not understand the game). On PC - The Lion King.

I drew anthropomorphic cartoons long before I knew anything about the 'furry' thing. That moniker didn't really settle over here until the Internet became relatively widespread.

For various reasons I was a little later to faffing around on the tubes, I think 2001-02? I stumbled on Dr Comet's work somehow, had a brief crisis of conscience, fapped, and then never looked back. OH HOW THE MIGHTY HAVE FALLEN, etc.

I didn't know I had any interest in furries until I found Krystal (from Starfox) on Google with the keyword "Furry", I was intrigued by this keyword and proceeded to look around the interwebs for this "furry", until I found artists that lead me to fur affinity.. and I've been here ever since :D
My interest in furries may have been influenced by loony toons, specifically bugs bunny because he's awesome. Only after having internet access for a few years did I eventually find this fandom.. along with all the other weird stuff on the internet.

I just drew stuff like bugs bunny and willy coyote when I was little... and then eventually I drew anthros in armor... then found out I was being hated for being part of a fandom I didn't know existed lol

It's an interesting question, and one I'm unqualified to answer because I haven't had TV in five years and have no idea what they're watching. I'm a tail end gen-x er, born in 77, and had cable as early as 83. Besides things like Robin Hood and old Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies, the earliest furry cartoons I remember were the Adventures of the Little Koala ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANG4VzBuoZA ), Leo the Lion https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQmi2u6-6vk and Belle and Sebastian ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWMpdO-VCe4 ). These were all on Nickelodeon in the early to mid eighties. There was also something called the USA Cartoon Express ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8p9HGaYzFLQ ) That played old Hanna Barbara stuff. Furry content included Hong Kong Phooey, the Great Grape Ape, Foofer, Paw Paw Bears, Yogi Bear's Treasure Hunt and more.
What really cemented me as a furry, and a bunch of people my age I'd guess, was the Disney Afternoon. When it premiered, the TMNT led 'funny animal' wave had been going for three or four years. A whole block of anthropomorphic cartoons every afternoon didn't seem a stretch at the time. Most folks seem to have preferred either Duck Tales or Rescue Rangers, but I was in to Talespin, especially Rebecca Cunningham. ^^

well as to what's turning the furry today if it's anything like what made me furry it's still disney.
disney has always used talking and anthropomorphic animals in their works and never shied away from the romance angle.

couldn't name a show in particular to blame for it though if i had to choose i'd probably say talespin. didn't learn about furries until 2009 or so well at least not the art part. friend of mine actually showed me an art site full of furries and i've been hooked ever since.

i have met a few who's parents were in the fandom already. More and more though I am meeting young people who are looking for someplace to belong...

I myself am a '92 model, so I grew up in the late 90's and early 00's. But I mainly watched 80's and 80's cartoons. Almost everything I watched was some sort of anthropomorphic toon. Looney Tunes, Bonkers, Swat Kats... You name it. I even watched Silver Fang.

And then I discovered the internet. And look where I ended up. Now it's all about cats and memes! ;P

I actually was just playing Halo 3 back in the day, chatting with some friends that were older than me, and they started talking about stuff I didn't understand. I asked for an explanation, and was given a link to the Furthia High webcomic. Needless to say I was interested in the story.

After only a small frame of time, I had become interested in this stuff, and I finally realized what it was I was looking into/at. I've been hanging around since, and boy is it enjoyable.

I kind of turn furry without knowing , i love animals and any movies having talking animals so much as a kid i was think about what if i was a wolf and then what if i was part wolf and part cat, also the game jak and daxter , love Daxter but never beat it becasue i suck at it as a kid, after that took like 6 or 7 year later on when i understand how youtube work to find out the word furry at random and watch like 20 video to understand what was a furry and then i start draw it and made a real fursona. mainly Tbone2004 good/bad rant on furry was the first one i seen until i join art sites
