We have the same issue here with our cat peeing. What we think it is is hes trying to assert dominance. We just bust his butt whenever we catch him lol

I am sorry about grub, i know what he mean to you, not just as a toy but also how you get him from Paul, i hope it could be save.

Yeah I guess cause gem and the baby side of me feels really quite real sometimes childish things do mess my head up. Grub is insanely important to me and I think some people just don't have a simular emotional attachments to something so find it tricky to relate to what the big deal is

I've got a little story for you that might help you feel a little less silly about this.

several years ago, while Rocket City Fur Meet (Huntsville, AL) was going on,
I went on a shopping trip with my friend Dani Lioness, her daughter, and a few other friends.

we found a lovely big puppy plush -- two feet tall, big, round, soft, with a pretty ribbon --
at Wal-Mart, of all places, and snapped him right up.
this guy was intended to be sold off for the con's charity auction.
I fell in love with the pup straight away, and gave him lots of hugs before we turned him over to the con staff for the auction.

what happened at the auction is something I'll never forget --
Dani focused on winning that big puppy...
and then gave him to me as one of the sweetest gifts I've ever gotten.

he's sitting just a few feet from me. I haven't come up with any adventures or such,
but he's a very big and fond reminder of a friend's kindness.

it's been a while since I've gone to sleep cuddling him.
but I might just do that tongiht in honor of your Grub.

(oh, and BTW... I'm 41.
I don't think it's silly at all for an adult to have an emotional attachment to what others would consider just an object.
I sleep with a little panda plush from Build-a-Bear -- one that my roommate  firepanda gave me a few years ago.)

Apparently Vinegar is supposed to be a good cat-urine remover, that's if you want to give it a try.
I mean I just got it off Google so you might wanna have a look into that. Anything to help Grub :3

It is not silly to have feelings of attachment for a plush. It's actually quite normal for people to find comfort in a favorite plushie, or other item. I'm certain that you can get the smell out of Grub. It might take a few attempts, but it will work. The funny thing here is that something like this is one of those very few times I'm wanting a plush to smell less like wee! If he were my own plushie, I'd be trying to do the opposite. Because I like that smell, yet had to keep things from offending others around me, I learned how to eliminate smells quite effectively when needed. That's been a struggle for me since I was a little kid - wanting my plushies to smell like wee, because it comforted me, but having to not have them smell because other people didn't like it. It's sort of why I eventually bought my own house. That way, I didn't need to keep removing smells from my plushies. I can now allow them to smell weed on, as I prefer.

I know how it feels though if a plushie doesn't smell right to it's owner. Smell is probably the most powerful and deep-rooted of all the senses, so you need Grub to smell the way you are used to him. The baking soda treatment usually works well, usually in combination with a washing, and possibly repeated. Cat wee is some of the strongest smelling in the animal kingdom, so it might take a couple tries to completely kill all evidence of the scent. Whatever you do, be very careful of too much machine washing. It can be a bit rough on a plush. A cleaning with you in the bath or the shower is probably safer. You can spin him to almost dry in the spin cycle of a washer, but stay away from using a drier. That can stiffen or partially melt his fur, and cause an irreversible change in his texture. After spin drying, just hang him in a warm dry area with a breeze.

In the very worse case, if you truly can't remove the smell to your satisfaction, please don't throw him away. I think many people love Grub and might be less sensitive to that smell. They'd probably give him a happy home. If no one else would, then I certainly would. The wee smell would not bother me at all. I would surely hate to see you through him away, because he has a lot of meaning to you. I actually see him as sort of an extension of the sort of person you are. I think you will be able to make him right again. Love him, cuddle him, and be comforted by him. None of that is silly or ridiculous. I think it's sweet that you care for him so much, and still show love to everyone around you too.

It's definitely not silly to have a strong attachment to a plush. I have a fennec fox Build-a-Bear that I can't sleep without and I'd be devastated if anything like that happened to him :( I'd probably cry as well, even though I have tons of other plushie toys. So don't feel silly for loving Grub! I hope you can get the smell out of him.

Also, if your cats are upset about the move, try getting some of the Feliway products from your local pet store. They worked wonders on my kitty when I moved with him and helped him calm right down. Just put it in the place they spend most of their time and it should help!

I would try a sodium benzoate solution. Always helped to get the cat pee out of my sheets. Of course, Grub may be a different kind of fabric, so I can't guarantee.

Just a question... are any of your cats fixed? Might be time to bite the bullet on that. This is unlikely to be the last time if they haven't been neutered.

The cats for done years ago they're quite old now 15. So age and stress of moving house hasn't helped sadly * hugs*

Moving into a new environment is always hard on pets.

I had a similar problem with my sister's cat (he peed all over some of my manga), but after that, he was fixed, also.

omg poor grubbut he should be savable like 4 years ago one of my plushes (hubble) got thrown in the garbage by a mean kid at camp and the camp people used a disinfectant that made her smell gross for months butshes fine now my point: it may take time but smells ware off

im sure you can get rid of the cat pee.. dont get rid of him. you can still have plush toys and still be grown up. my bf keeps getting me them.
i just keep them as decoration really. especially the plush squirrels. i can always pass them down to the baby when i have one.

if i could id come and help you i have cats of my own and i know how it smells and stuff when they pee on stuff my cats learned the hard way tho they dont pee on anything anymore maybe the youngest will but i hope she do the same as my 4 year old Female then she will learn a big lesson XD but i use Anit Cat spray on my bags nowa day

As for getting rid of cat pee without hurting Grub, I'd say take it for a dive with white vinegar (a 1:5 dilution should work fine), then give it a good wash with baby shampoo. I use L'Oréal Kids 2in1 (Mango's my favourite, Strawberry smells great too). Squeeze gently to get as much water as you can, then let it dry outside.

It's easy, it's cheap, it gets rid of the smell, and they end up all fluffy and smelling fantastic.

Growing up whenever the cats peed on stuff my Mom used a little vinegar and gently brush it, air out and than took some baby shampoo to it - like already mentioned by other people :D

Grub is your comfort zone, trust me I have several plushies and I'm always getting talked to because I'm to old for em but I can't sleep without them!

I really hope you can find something that works for you! I could never imagine sleeping without my favorite plushie Jake...He is pretty much my other half.

One of my cats occasionally pees on the couch, apparently just to be a jerk. I've found an enzyme cleaner called 'Pee Pee' (Yeah, I know. :P) works really well. You soak the affected area and let it dry. The process of drying removes the smell. If the outside is stained at all,  beastcub (despite the unfortunate implications of the name, is not naughty. I know what it is like to become attached to a plushie.
Not exactly easy to explain, but they can bring a certain kind of comfort.

It may be silly to some, but to one self it just makes sense.
It just how much you let it take over.
I really hope something can be done for Grub.

I hope you're able to fix up Grub, don't give up on him.. It's not silly at all to be attached to him, especially after such a long long time. I have a plushie I was given by my grandpa before he died, and it reminds me of the Dalmatian he and I picked out as a companion and family pet.. who left us for Rainbow Bridge two years ago. I have other plushies, that I'm very attached to, one being a giant black panthercat my husband got me and I cling to Kitterkit desperately every night to get to sleep when Kit has to be away for his work. The only thing I think is silly... is people trying to tell you how you should and shouldn't feel about YOUR things.

Also, I see people suggesting vinegar, and it does help with kitty tinkle smell, but it doesn't entirely eliminate it. You have to actually destroy the enzymes in the tinkle.. And that's not including the ones Ive gotten recently, that are faves too!! I love all my plushies!!! And thankfully my fiancé is ok with it!! XD

Hubby suggests dry cleaning. They can apparently get just about anything out of just about anything.

I know I may be too late for this, Gem, since it was posted a few weeks back...but there's a product called Kids & Pets - it's an enzyme cleaner that deep cleans. I'm not sure if they have it over there but try enzyme cleaners for this or if there's ever a next time. *hugs* They've worked for me.
