It's rather rude to blatantly state that you don't like something. If you can't say anything nice, then you should probably keep your opinion to yourself, or at least to a forum or site where the artist wont see it.
Artists have feelings too, ya know.
And no, i don't respect you, especially when you're trying to justify being rude to somebody.
I'm not being rude, so I'm being realistic. If I were rude, I would start to badmouth or doing a mess here. Is not my intention.
Artists have feelings, yeah. They are humans too. The difference is everyone can't like you. There's always few people who disagree.
In my case, I don't like this drawing in specific because is not the kind of art I like to see in a banner. But the artist haves other pieces of art that are nice to me.
Then, I need to give a feedback to the artist because I have the right to do so.
As I explained in a journal, there will be people who like your art and people who don't. And an artist can't please everyone and it's the normal thing in the world.
It's not rude to say you don't personally like something. If you go out of your way to tell that person you don't like them or their art, that's rude. But if you see something, it's not rude to say "I'm not a fan of that." This person is as entitled to their opinion as you are. The "don't say anything if it's not nice" is kidgloves, and these people are adults and should be able to handle people saying they don't like their stuff.
I'm afraid i must disagree, as this banner is another persons creation and this journal is all about it, and yet people are going out of their way to say that it's bad.
And the "if you cant say something nice dont say anything at all" thing applies to all ages and walks of life.
Well, I think you're wrong. If you disagree with me, then that's fine. but just know; stating your opinion isn't rude. They're saying "I personally don't like this." It's the same as if you say you like it. They're as entitled to stating their opinion as you are. You arne't somehow magically granted the right to comment just because it's positive. That's how life is. If someone gives me food I don't like at a restaurant, most people will say "I don't like this food, can you remake it?"
And it doesn't apply to all ages. No one would ever grow if all people said were nice things and praise. People grow most when they make mistakes and do things wrong, or when people give criticism. Come back to me when you learn how the real word works.
I think we should just agree to disagree, and btw, art and food are two totally different things.
And yeah, your right about the growing thing; we all need criticism. But the people here aren't giving the artist criticism, they're being outright rude.
I don't agree that they're different things in this context.
And I don't think voicing an opinion is rude in this context. Saying you don't like something isn't rude if that's all you say. If you get an attitude or insulting with it, yes. but just saying you don't like it? I guess you better never say you don't like a movie, or a book, or a game then. Because if the developer or people working on it saw, then it's just rude.
I think the point of why it's rude is because it simply "I don't like it" just plain like that it's kind of just wow, the person didn't ask you to like it or take the type to write up that comment, it the main banner for the site so I see where it gets some more attention for such a response but this is an art community and rather than being rude and stating you flat out dislike it a proper way to take it is to say why.
If someone was to say they disliked my art yes I take it as criticism as to improve but unless they somehow state WHAT they hate about it, it just really fells like they went out of there way to sneer at it, I know not everybody will like my art, but if your going to write about your distaste for it just include why; even if it's as simple as "..don't like that/the style"
that way the person knows if it's something about the art or if i'ts just a personal opinion/style preference.
I worked in the food industry and it's the same way, if someone sends something back we kind of want to know WHY they sent it back so we know where we went wrong, otherwise we feel as if they just plain up are being rude and a difficult person.
Well, no one asks someone if they liked it, either. People are entitled to their opinions, and like it or now, they say it. Saying "I don't like that," as a kind of statement isn't rude in itself. People are far too sensitive about these things.
They're not saying it's bad. They're not saying the artist is bad. They're not saying anything negative that matters. Art is subjective. Though their comment may not be wanted, they're not being mean or hurtful. They're just saying they don't personally like it. They didn't go out of their way to tell the artist that. this was a journal about the banner, they were just saying they're not a fan of it. I understand the point, but everyone is allowed to their opinion, and no one is trying to hurt anyone's feelings. The extent to which people are blowing the subjective likes and dislikes of people out of proportion is pretty frightening. It makes me wonder how these people handle issues in real life if one comment like that on the net upsets them so greatly.
Well that is understandable if they personally don't like it, but keeping it simple people assume the worst
By simply stating "I personally don't like it" then it becomes quite understandable that it is there opinion and yes by those standards it isn't rude
But the 'I don't like it" people do assume the worst unfortunately and lash to protect themselves or others rather than asking why.
I myself always ask why first before I freak out, and it always works out in the end as the person states why and I see to improve myself, they say it's just a peronal thing and thus work to really expand as an artist or work with different things outside my comfort zone, or see the person is just a troll and I ignore them.
It dose kind of suck you have to be specific when just stating your honest opinion but that's how people are every now and then. But thats just ho people are when it comes to something of this subject matter, they can get hypersensitive,
I do get that people NEED to have a backbone to take blunt critisism, heck you need a backbone in life period.
It just helps that artists gain a backbone and commenter be spicific
hrnnng the amount of stupid is really strong here.
Its a public forum where the artist is free to block and remove comments from their own profile and regulate criticism to their own leisure, however this is on someone else's profile/journal.
People should be allowed to state whether or not they like something. Who cares? its when they say " I dont like it because it's stupid and retarded and blhalbhalbhal" when it becomes rude. Come on dawg you know better.
jesus christ all they fucking did was say "I don't like it" that isn't rude or offensive at all. saying "UGH THIS BANNER IS UTTER GARBAGE THIS ISN'T ART" would be, though. but stating your personal preference =/= rude.
according to your logic, it's rude to say I didn't like a movie on a public forum where the creator can see it I guess???
I'm not blowing things out of proportion, so i dont know where you got that idea. I just stated the obvious, that the statement the guy made was rude.
And honestly, movies and 2d art are totally different things. Especially when it's art made for a fandom. This guy made this banner out of passion and admiration for this website, and what does he get? A bunch of snide losers bashing his art and trying to justify it because "it's just an opinionnnnnn" or "it's a public forummmm"
By your logic, it's ok to be an ass to hard working artists.
in all honestly, I don't remember that being announced or I likely didn't pay attention that was going to be a thing. I've been more focused on the uploaded art than news about the site.
I was talking mostly about the one saying there were better ones out there.... that's really rude :( the artist is reading all of these so people should at least be polite. if you don't like it just say that. no need to be harsh.
Being rude is being rude and people thought you were rude to the artist and told you so. You can agree with them or not but they are going to state their opinion just as you did.
If you didn't want an opposing opinion then you shouldn't have posted.
All sites will have that problem if the screen res it too low try and turn your screen resolution up. Lower than 1280x1280 does not work for most websites.
I like how people will whine about the banner like the artist won't see it and I just
Guh
If you don't like it don't bloody say anything. The artist is prolly super damn happy they got picked and there's no need for you to piss on that by saying you'd have preferred another. This courtesy shit shouldn't be this far gone on FA but apparently it is, haha. Not sure what I was expecting.
Personally I love the banner. It's nice to see something more stylized and vibrant.
Not liking something isn't even a critique, it's an opinion and A LOT of furries are opinionated. Also, people have been bitter towards FA when other sites with unpaid teams have updated faster.
I say critique is valid regardless of whether it is directly asked or not. These people aren't offering critique though. Even sayin "i don't like it" is just, whatever, let them say that. It's not critique by any means, but it can be considered in bad taste to just come here to say you don't like it with nothing else to say. Certain people are just being flat out rude about their opinion, though.
Lol. yes it is. Any art website is open to critique.
Critique are helpful comments to help an artist better thier work.
But, speaking an opinion isn't a critique anyway.
In either case, when an artist posts thier work publicly, they should be ready for the fact that not everyone is going to like thier work.
People on the internet are assholes.
Grow up and put some ice on the burn, and continue to make art just as you were.
A lot of people actually do go straight to the artists' shouts to tell them they don't like it. I don't understand why they need to know that you don't like their art. It's a pretty rude thing to announce straight to the artist!
No one can say they dislike things ever again, it might hurt someones feelings. Guess I never should have said Michael Bay's films suck on a public forum.
yeah, i can't help but feel people might be over-reacting a little to the 'i personally don't care for this' type responses. sure they aren't all that constructive (outside of giving the admins an idea of what people prefer for banner art), and i'd probably agree that it was in poor taste if these comments were on regular submissions, but banners strike me as potentially different (what with them being submitted to be chosen for this specific purpose, being so highly visible viewable to so many, and all that sort of thing). (and these are me asking general questions here, rather than to you - just to avoid confusion here) as you suggest, people say they don't like certain things all the time without giving a second thought. is that acceptable? is it only bad if the maker sees it? or does any negative opinion automatically make someone a terrible person? i would have thought that so long as it were kept as an opinion, and not just insults, then it's perhaps not the end of the world(?). since we are on the subject, i'm not a huge fan of the banner. i do not think it is terrible, i don't think the artist should be ashamed of themselves, i just personally don't care for the style. am i a bad person for that? it seems the line for what is and is not acceptable in terms of banner feedback genuinely isn't clear to everyone. dumb as this may sound, rather than everyone try and belittle each other for not holding the same standard on the matter, perhaps the admins could help us out here; is banner feedback acceptable? should it be treated as a normal submission? i tend to just be quiet when i don't care for it, but the responses here had me curious.
Too many people on this site are way too sensitive, I think you make some good points. so it's always nice to read level headed and well explained comments!
I actually like seeing banners like this.. at least its not catering to some already mega popular artist.. I like seeing art of those who are less known in the community, it's a breath of fresh air, even if the art isn't "OMG SOOOO GOOOD"
only about six people so far have not liked it, only one or two maybe that I see could be considered "rude" =/
everyone is allowed their opinion on a public site, some will like it, some wont its just life
The only reason I could see why, would be like someone saying "I don't like what you made" to you. Not necessarily a bad thing, but often a loud hit to the ego.
I love how many furries there are that thinks different opinion = rude. Let's be a little open here and respect other people's right to express their own opinion.
I wouldnt says its "rude" to have an opinion, i think its just unfair to the artist that some people dont like they style but they didnt choose to have their banner featured and then suddenly they have an over whelming amount of attention and some of it not being positive, im sure, wouldnt make the artist feel welcome to the community.
People are being babies because it's not a popufur banner that got chosen with all the cray cray shading and lighting.
I enjoy this one, it feels like a fresh new start. I'm glad FA takes the time to look through different banners and not just the high quality ones.
Good job Zach be proud ^^
Yah I think I worded that wrong, I was typing fairly fast because I had to go get my food hahha.
But you have to agree that FA usually chooses the Popufur banners so this is quite a nice change
so someone thinks that one banner looked better than the other, big deal. It' still their opinion and theyre allowed to share it on a public forum.
As long as they arent being rude/bashing about it, I dont see a problem with such a comment. A "i dont care for this banner" is no more constructive/critical than a "I like this banner" comment =/
But in all honest, I find some of the comments are uneeded, like, idk, who cares if you dont like it or you think there were far better ones. The artist closed this page off because he was tired of all the hate. Like you RARELY see anyone on FA going onto a artist submission and saying straight up that they hate it and name off all the things that could of been done better. (unless the artist has asked for people to criticize)
IDK this is a big issue but I'm not ganna get into it, I put in my two cents to for I enjoy the breath of fresh air
NONO I completely understand that, but unlike the popufurs who have had alot of time to create a barrier against all the negative...I supposed the newer ones would feel really scared, not used to the attention and all the hate D: Zach closed this page down so he wouldn't see it cause it was hurting to much seeing alot of people hate his art </3
I just felt really bad for the poor guy :C
Like I love the banner, i find it just freakishly adorable.
I care more about the person than the actually art when I said all I said xDD I was just bad at explaining :C
It took me a bit but I do greatly enjoy this banner and its a nice change so props to the artist also
Weren't we suppose to get you know a new site and could change our own banners or something cool like that orrrr I mean when is that going to happen or should I stop being excited because it'll take you a few more years??
I love the style, not so much the banner though. Looking through the artist's galleries, all I can see are simply beautiful artwork. Simplistic style are one of my favorites. It may just be the clash between the cartoon-ish style of the dragon's expression and the more stylized fender and butterfly, that is making others think of it as less than what they wanted for the site's new banner. Perhaps, the artist could try a middle ground between the two styles for images like this in the future. I do agree with the artist though, shading wouldn't have looked as good as the flat coloring on this image. Congratulations on making the banner :]
I like the new banner and all, but is it necissary for people to shun the artist or the banner choice when some of the complainers can't draw half as good..?
FINALLY. Not that anything was wrong with the last one it's just nice seeing a change of scenery so to speak. What ever happened to monthly banners? I swear the last one was up for at least a season.
Just a general non-opinionated question; where can I find the banner submission rules and guidelines? I've been wanting to try my hand at making one for awhile now, but I don't even know who I'd even send a submission to. D=
Awesome awesome new banner!
But fuck guys, what's with all these rude comments?? What ever happened to "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all"?
Ugh. -3-
The artist that made it was getting so much shit for people not liking their banner that they're leaving the site...
I for one think its refreshing to see art from an artist who isn't well known on the site's banner, makes the little guys like me have some hope that maybe someday my art will be up there.
Golden rules, peeps: "Treat others the way you'd like to be treated." "If you can't say something nice, don't say nothin' at all."
Oh lord, i can't believe people are actually DOING that -3-
And can you imagine how the artist feels?!
*sigh* at least there are people with REAL manners out there, and yeah keep up the great work !!
Despite liking the new banner, I can't believe how much of you think it is "rude" for someone to critique art. It's not rude to have an opinion, it's rude to make your opinion sound like a fact and saying whoever disagrees is wrong. That is rude.
Yeah, I agree people have a right to their own opinion! They have a right to say whether they like it or not. If they don't like it then you can always just ignore their comment & focus on the ones who do like it! Its perfectly 'ok' not to like something, as long as you're not mean in expressing it.
Personally, I love it! Its 1000x better than anything I could do. I'm sure the artist did they best they could knowing it was for the banner & thats enough for me!
Wow I'm so amazed at people being so oversensitive because people don't like this and seem to think that they can't say what they want, on a public forum of all places.
No one is saying "fuck dis shit" "shitty art is shitty" or "dis art sucks my furry balls" people simply state they don't like it.........BUUUUUUUURN THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They not only did that, but also stole his/her art and sold it, harassed him/her mercilessly, and drove him/her from the site. Good job. Just because something was different you burned the one who gave it to you. Good fucking job.
I personally don't like the new banner. I mean, it's well done I have to give props to the artist for good execution, but style-wise, It's just not working for me.
Came here to find out who made the current banner (it looked different from what im used to so i was curious ^^) just to find out the artist left FA... That is one sad banner now :c
I don't have an opinion on liking or disliking the banner. Its whatever. I can't change it.
But it would be pretty cool if we could nominate banners, and vote for the winner of the month. An artist spotlight, chosen by the fans.
Or maybe if new and aspiring artists were chosen to get them more attention.
That would be cool but at the same time, I think, unfair to the artists who are not as skilled (or rather yet have an acquired style) as many of the others on FA and then you have the popular ones at that. It would end up like DeviantArt TnT
I personally enjoy the new banner. I think its fantastic that it is giving a not-so-well-known artist a chance in the spotlight! Though, they seem to have left now. :c
Guys, its not a crime to not have a 'strong-backbone' on the internet. Some people are sensitive, and as human BEINGS we should practice compassion. Nobody should have to 'grow a thicker skin' just so they can put up with the people out there that, for some reason, think that just because there is freedom of speech that they have to throw a negative opinion into the mix.
Some people can't take criticism or negativity very well, and lo and behold...they can actually be human and get their feelings hut! That is NOT a crime or something that should be laughed at. You can take it? Fine, all well and good, but you shouldn't expect that of others. People have their reasons. Hell, some people even have anxiety issues and it isn't something they can help.
We should be building each other up as a community, not turn it into a tear-down 'I'm the bigger and stronger guy' contest. :/
Sucks to hear that the artist left due to negative feedback about their work. But, not to poor salt on a wound, maybe it's for the best. Artist have to be very thick skinned to criticism since the can not control an audiences emotional response to their work. If they can't deal with bad comment now, leaving may be the best until they can develop a tolerance with dealing with negativity.
Either way, it's still pretty nasty all around.
People just need to learn to ad-block whatever they don't like seeing as opposed to taking a dump all over an artist over something they really have no control over. It's not like Zacharie had any say in whether or not the staff chose her banner.
I cant believe how much buttmad a banner created. thats a real shame. a real, real shame. even if you dont like it, come on guys. theres no need to be arseholes. if youre not fond of something you can choose to say nothing [the mature, adult route] or you can politely say its 'not your type' of thing. but blatantly saying its shit or horrible or whatever? nah man, thats wrong.
I think the banner is cute, well drawn, and I like it but I think fenders expression is hard to get and he should have been less in the foreground.
If you don't like it then give polite criticism of what you don't like. There is really no point in saying "I don't like it". By saying "I don't like it" you are literally being rude to the artist because you can easily give your "opinion" in a nicer way.
It is kind of ironic that the fandom is supposed to be an accepting community. It's not really coming off that way.
I kind of like the banner, takes some getting used to but it is really stylized, differently something I would be into. Even if the artist has left I would take the time to go after them and check out more of their work.
You'd think that as long as it's furry that that's all that matters.
I like the unique style, it's got its own toony abstract style that isn't too over the top. I would've commissioned them, and since it looks like they're posting elsewhere, I might do so anyway. They'd pull off my character very well.
I think it's sad someone can't take some crtitic and leaves just because of receiving some. And everyone has right to not like this banner as well as any other artwork. An artist needs to deal with each kind of critique or die - that's the sad true about their hobby/proffession.
Haters and so on exist in each community.
Absolutely, but from the sounds of it she was getting bashed on pretty badly? And you know, nobody deserves such rough treatment. Looks like she's pretty fairly new about being more open in the artist world, so that kind of treatment will easily get overwhelming.
There was an overwhelming amount of hate directed towards this person, it was hardly a small amount of constructive criticism. People actually stole this persons art and sold it as their own, flamed her page relentlessly and sent her email to spam sites and shit. So dont go with all that callused bullshit.
I think it's interesting to see artists of varying talents be featured on the banner. This art site is for all levels of talent and it is required of you to be some master artist to be a member. It is nice to see the banner supporting that part of this site for once. Remember not all artists started out grand they got that way by hard work dedication and support which low and behold we're not giving this up and coming artist.
I fully support the mods and admins of this site for supporting the blvarying talents on here good job guys though I hope this means more frequent banner changes in th future.
If furries have taught me anything it's not you will never make them happy, the majority anyway. You put non fetish art in front of them by an artist who isn't popufur and they shit and piss all over it, such is the way of the furfag.
I like the idea and I can see where the artist was going with it. I can also see that it's very stylized as well! The only thing that I'm not too fond of is Fender's eye, it kind of creeps me out. Reminds me of one of those anime movies like "Howl's Moving Castle" where the old and unpleasant "witches" have Large creepy eyes and equally creepy exaggerated expressions. Other than me being personally freaked out and reminded of the weirdness of some animes, this banner is just fine.
You know, that had potential to be hurtful and make me feel awful had you used a real insult. I'm willing to forget you said that if you try again with something that takes more witt rather than the insipid ignorance your feeble mind spewed on my precious remark about our poorly selected banner.
Why are you so hellbent on putting down that artist's work? I understand that you have an opinion, and that's okay, but take into account that Dragoneer and the staff of this site LOVED that banner enough to put it up. Think about the artist's feeling that would have been hurt if they were still here and saw all these nasty comments on their stylized artwork, do you care at all that you're saying hurtful things on purpose?
There are living breathing human beings behind each of these icons, accounts, and drawing. People that were brave enough and proud enough to submit their artwork in hopes that the staff of this site and the users might like to see their artwork as a banner. You're putting someone down who liked their drawing enough to GIVE to the site, don't you feel the least bit bad that you're being so rude about this?
Or are you acting like this to hide the fact that just maybe you're ashamed of your own artwork? Bitter that you don't think that your art will ever make it as a banner? So you attack and insult other people's work because it's 'an eyesore', 'that 2 year olds can paint better', 'all you want is unique and appealing art.'.
Honey let me tell you, the world is not going to cater to your wants and desires. No amount of insulting this banner is going to make Dragoneer and the staff take it down because you think it's awful and ugly. FA doesn't revolve around you, neither is the world. So suck it up, stop complaining, and be grateful this site even exists and allows you to upload artwork freely and post comments without consequence for rude opinions. You can't force anyone to do what you want because you don't like it, because there will be someone else who doesn't like what you had changed. You can't please everyone, so why bother complaining when you can go do something else?
Get over yourself, stop putting people down because of your possible underlying resentments, find something better to do with your time.
This is not the artists fault, but merely the poor choice of banner by the administrative staff. It reminds me of those awkward parents who hang up their 5 year olds shitty artwork up in their cubicles at work, who then show it off to every one of their coworkers as if their child had accomplished some amazing accomplishment by rubbing their hands in chemical substances and smearing it over a piece of paper they found on the floor at school. Yah, this is a lot like that.
You have no regard towards other people's feelings do you?
All you care about is your own opinion and you don't care who you tear down in the process of making sure your thoughts are seen, I find that very sad and disgusting.
As for parents hanging their children's artwork, parents are proud of when their children give them their artwork or do something nice. I'm 20 years old and my mother still has a painting I did in the 6th grade that won in an art contest. It's hanging in her office at work. And her coworkers walk by and compliment it. The thing is, it's not their opinion that matters to her, what matters is the fact that she likes it, she's proud of it, that's why she leaves it up.
And that same thing applies here. Your opinion on the banner choice doesn't matter to the mods, they like it, the artist is proud of it, and that's why it'll stay up as long as the mods want it there.
Now I don't want to be rude and say something nasty to you, as ignorant and thoughtless as you are being, but I hope you somewhere along the course of your life realize just how inconsiderate you are towards other people's generosity and feelings.
People are actually being way too fucking rude to the artist like-
Okay, we understand if you don't like it, but it could have probably been said better-
on the same note- I don't see what's so wrong about it.
And it seems people have driven :userzacharie: away now. : (
but I really like the banner! It looks like they tried pretty damned hard on it only for a lot of people to turn it down immediately and make bad comments.
Hell criticism wouldnt be bad compared to the outright hatred this person received. But lesson is, never do anything for furries, it is never worth it.
I love how some people on here think that people saying that they don't like the banner is rude, and the only way to fix it is to be even more rude right back to them.
LOGIC!
Personally I don't mind the banner, shame a bunch of people had to give it a bitter effect so to speak.
It is always nice when the untalented porn whores harshly criticize and demean people who do things for free on their own time. How silly of us for defending the artist.
I'm quite pleased as I laugh at some of the wrapped logic that's getting thrown around here, hahah.
'OH, MY WORDS ARE GOOD IN MY OPINION AND ARE THEREFORE OKAY BUT YOURS AREN'T SHUT UP ONLY I MAY SPEAK SHUT UP NOW WHY HAVEN'T YOU SHUT UP I'M GONNA CALL YOU A BAD WORD NOW BECAUSE THAT'LL TEACH YOU SOME MANNERS'
So many people are throwing around the whole 'if you don't have anything nice to say-' logic, but then dropping it themselves the second they spot someone who wont back down.
Jeee, i didnt realize calling someone out on their bullshit was hypocritical. Im sorry, let us just encourage these spineless fucks in their habits. It is already so well encouraged here.
No, calling someone out on their BS isn't the hypocritical part. The comment where you go "Cunt" too someone who is being rude is the hypocritical part.
So i let my anger get the best of me. It happens. I get angry when people act like that, it is so low to treat people so badly for providing a free gift to a community.
And 'encouraging' someone to do something and ignoring, i.e. the whole 'if you don't have anything nice to say-' stuff, them are two entirely different things. I'm just saying that if you sit there and call someone 'talentless' and 'cunts' and whatever else you've been using, they're not exactly going to care for what you have to say, no matter how right you may or may not be.
Also, your one post that you seemed to have hidden. Your logic saying that if someone cant draw as well as someone else then they have no right to critic it. Don't you find that at all a bit warped? Now, i'm not trying to start a fight here, A talk yes, not a fight, but in my eyes, that logic would also mean that someone who cant draw as well as someone else also doesn't have the right to say the arts 'good'. After all if you cant tell whats bad about something, how can you tell if its good or not?
Ill admit i was a bit off with my wording, i let emotion get in the way of reason for a bit. I mean, that guy -really- pissed me off. I hid those comments because frankly, a stupid internet argument isnt worth my time or sanity. So no reason to pursue it any further. And yes, it was best for me to ignore the whole thing. But the way that poor artist was treated made me rather upset. I mean, so much hate over something as meaningless as a banner. Why do that? This person provided something for free, and got shat on. These assholes harassed this poor gal until she was forced to leave the site. All for something she did for the community. How is that right?
And as for the whole "no say unless talent" thing i answered that best i could in a different post that ive left up. But im really not looking to fight. Sometimes people just get to me.
It's honestly not right if what I read was true. Something about people getting ahold of her contact info and address or something like that and signing them up for a bunch of trash. You're absolutely in the right to be angry about that imo, but directing it at some of the people in this journal who might've had nothing to do with that wasn't exactly the best way to direct said anger.
To be honest, I don't really know HOW the banner system works myself, but if this artist did make this AS A BANNER, and they knew there was a chance it would have been put up, then that's kinda the same as saying 'okay guys i'm okay with it being put up and i'm ready for the swamp of comments that will come with that, whether they be bad or good'. If that was the case, then the comments on this page shouldn't have bothered them, thus no fighting had to occur because we wouldn't have to be 'defending' someone.
I forgot where I was going towards the end of this. Dang. BUT ANYWAY I HOPE YOU HAVE A GOOD DAY DESPITE ALL THIS.
Itll go better now that at least i found some rational people up there. At least i can agree to disagree with people like you. Nice to see some civility on this site. And it is just a shame these people couldnt at the very least put out their opinions in a constructive way instead of flat out hatred. But from now on ive learned to just stay out of this crap ENTIRELY. It is never worth it. IVe also learned that if i become a good enough artist, ill never contribute a thing to this wretched site. These people are ingrates.
I think the best part is when Fivel went ahead and spammed the profiles of everyone who said this month's banner was stupid with how bad they were. I find it sad how she took the time out of her day just to do that.
People who cannot draw do not know good art. Critics who are not artists should not be critics. This is what you are saying.
Just because they don't have talent in drawing, writing or creating music does not deprive them from their right to have an opinion and speak it. I agree the guy put it quite rudely, but saying that they do not deserve to have an opinion just because they cannot draw is just as bad.
Yup. Go back to living in your special snowflake world where everyone has to say nice things about the crap you draw and can't criticize it or say they don't like it. Meanwhile, I'll continue living in a place called 'reality'.
"I don't like this" is a perfectly fine statement to make, especially on a journal about changing the banner. I never said I approve how the few who are rude are saying it, nor am I encouraging going to the artist and telling them your opinion. However, this is a journal posted by the staff about what banner the staff picked for the entire community to see until it is changed again. People have every right to express here that they like or dislike the banner. This is good for the staff if they pay any attention to it so they know what people do like seeing. And as a community, everyone has the right to speak their mind. Rude or polite, though, it would probably be better on their part if they did it politely.
Now, those who have gone straight to the artist and bullied them about it are the ones I don't approve of. It's not the artists' fault their banner got picked, it's the staff's.
You see the problem is, very, very few people were polite over this. The outright hatred this person received was completely unwarranted and made the whole furry community look that much worse. And if they truly hated it so much, then why not just adblock and move on with your life? How self important do you have to be to flame someone who did something for FREE that was supposed to be enjoyed for a few days? That is like getting a free pie, then throwing it back in their face because it was cherry and not apple. These people feel so entitled that if anything isnt perfect for them they throw tantrums like 2 year olds. It is frankly, disgusting.
There were people who were just simply stating they don't like it and being called rude for it as well. And it's not only the members of the site that see it, but the people who are just visiting and don't spend enough time on the net to care for ad block seeing it as well. The community would like to see something artistic that would represent an art site better.
As I said before, I don't approve of those who bullied the artist. That was just plain out uncalled for. But it's also silly to try to stop people from being rude by being rude back.
As i said before i let emotion take over for rationality. And yes, hate only begets more hate. Something i do not wish to propagate. I just hate seeing people being treated bad, especially when they have done nothing but support the community. And if people come here and are put off by the banner and not by the horrific things that happen here, there is a serious issue with them.
Um, ive let this all go. It was no longer worth arguing and if you read the posts ive already apologized. So yea, if you want more drama, find it elsewhere.
Id rather not demean myself for your amusement. And part of being a mature human being is admitting fault. I know, that is weird for furries. But it doesn't make you look very good to encourage this kind if stuff. I thought hippies believed in peace...
So if the talentless don't deserve an opinion, does that mean every argument you've made in this journal should be ignored? Because your gallery is pretty awful soooooooo, just trying to stay consistant with what you're bitching at me about. :V
>unknown artist gets banner
>people don't like it, this is ok
>people proceed to harass the artist which is not ok
>artist is told to have a backbone and to ignore all of the threats and other rude comments they are receiving
>because you know having a backbone makes you totally immune to the words of others
>artist decides it's better to leave because furries are fucking insane
>people yell at her more for not having a backbone again
>she leaves a journal for her commissioners to contact her
>furries sign the emails given up for spambots and other pleasant things
...why do we even make these journal posts? shouldnt we SKIP the drama part of the fandom? why not just say who drew it and not have a fucking comments section?
problem solved.

Glad to see it's official, now. :3
Is my opinion, you should respect me.
Artists have feelings too, ya know.
And no, i don't respect you, especially when you're trying to justify being rude to somebody.
Artists have feelings, yeah. They are humans too. The difference is everyone can't like you. There's always few people who disagree.
In my case, I don't like this drawing in specific because is not the kind of art I like to see in a banner. But the artist haves other pieces of art that are nice to me.
Then, I need to give a feedback to the artist because I have the right to do so.
there
>w< *nomnomnomnomnom*
owo weew!
And the "if you cant say something nice dont say anything at all" thing applies to all ages and walks of life.
And it doesn't apply to all ages. No one would ever grow if all people said were nice things and praise. People grow most when they make mistakes and do things wrong, or when people give criticism. Come back to me when you learn how the real word works.
And yeah, your right about the growing thing; we all need criticism. But the people here aren't giving the artist criticism, they're being outright rude.
Newfangled way of saying, Artist need to develop thicker skins if they intend on showing their art to anyone other than their pets.
Come on dawg you know better.
according to your logic, it's rude to say I didn't like a movie on a public forum where the creator can see it I guess???
stop blowing things out of proportion. thank.
So can we not? Thank.
if you wish to continue discussing this, please contact me at tinyjihad[at]gmail.com :3
I am pleased.
Eh.
Thank you. ♥
hush y'alls jealous mouths
I suppose its okay.. its quirky and a refreshing break from all the super advanced shaded stuff normally chosen.
Good job nevertheless. ^^
Odd thing for me to pic but sometimes simple is more eye-pleasing to me.
I still worked hard on this, though.
Thanks.
I love it~!
The style is different and the artists work is nice. It's nice to have different things! It's cute and toony :D.
Can't wait to see the next ones! I liked the monthly updates myself v u v
Being rude is being rude and people thought you were rude to the artist and told you so. You can agree with them or not but they are going to state their opinion just as you did.
If you didn't want an opposing opinion then you shouldn't have posted.
http://i.imgur.com/z0EYj0Pl.png
Pretty style!
Critique are helpful comments to help an artist better thier work.
But, speaking an opinion isn't a critique anyway.
In either case, when an artist posts thier work publicly, they should be ready for the fact that not everyone is going to like thier work.
People on the internet are assholes.
Grow up and put some ice on the burn, and continue to make art just as you were.
got a badass over heeyuh
nothing nice to say dont say it.
WOULD YOU UNDERSTAND BEAUTY OF THE BEAST?
I hope we have more like this in the future
everyone is allowed their opinion on a public site, some will like it, some wont its just life
it just worries me how Really upset some people are over the topic.
Its nice to see diffrents styles again.
"Updates whenever"
But the creator moved form this account
Aha, and I strongly beleive the site should add a credit to the banner anuthors on the banner or right next to it...
I enjoy this one, it feels like a fresh new start. I'm glad FA takes the time to look through different banners and not just the high quality ones.
Good job Zach be proud ^^
Only saying this as I feel that quality is relative. This is a finished piece and is stylized to the artist's personal look.
^^ I think just because it chooses not to have shading or lighting effects doesn't speak to it's quality.
some of my favorite artists never shade.
It's a stylistic choice and nothing more <3<3
I think this banner is superfab and shows the wide range of stylistic choices within the fandom <3<3
I think fa would be a lot more interesting if we all stopped trying to have our art look like "so-and-so's" and just let it be what it is <3
Props to FA and props to the artist! Keep em comin', guys!!! <3
But you have to agree that FA usually chooses the Popufur banners so this is quite a nice change
As long as they arent being rude/bashing about it, I dont see a problem with such a comment. A "i dont care for this banner" is no more constructive/critical than a "I like this banner" comment =/
Still a big baby.
What now.
IDK this is a big issue but I'm not ganna get into it, I put in my two cents to for I enjoy the breath of fresh air
I remember seeing so much backlash and complaint one one "popufurs" banner.
People will complain and dislike always ; u;. There is no pleasing everyone sadly QAQ.
ALSO HELLO MY LOVE IM HAPPY TO SEE YOU <3
I just felt really bad for the poor guy :C
Like I love the banner, i find it just freakishly adorable.
I care more about the person than the actually art when I said all I said xDD I was just bad at explaining :C
HELLO LOVELY <3
Happy to see you tooooooo :DDDDDD
And you're right. That makes a LOT of sense. I feel so bad for him oh my gosh. This should be a happy honorable time ;-;.
I'm sure he will recover though and come back stronger than ever! Atleast I hope. (=´∀`)人(´∀`=)
And I do enjoy the banner also! It's so DIFFERENT from what we have usually have. It's nice for change!
yaaaaay
thats always the good part hahaha
There will be more who enjoy it that those who don't! :D
Weren't we suppose to get you know a new site and could change our own banners or something cool like that orrrr I mean when is that going to happen or should I stop being excited because it'll take you a few more years??
New banner. :3
Still lovely work and nice banner :)
... Dibs. I call dibs on the next one.
Un bon travail de
Her name is Fender's spelled backwards. :D
But fuck guys, what's with all these rude comments?? What ever happened to "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all"?
Ugh. -3-
Seriously...
Great work, keep it up!
And can you imagine how the artist feels?!
*sigh* at least there are people with REAL manners out there, and yeah keep up the great work
Personally, I love it! Its 1000x better than anything I could do. I'm sure the artist did they best they could knowing it was for the banner & thats enough for me!
No one is saying "fuck dis shit" "shitty art is shitty" or "dis art sucks my furry balls" people simply state they don't like it.........BUUUUUUUURN THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had no idea about those things, I don't watch the artist so I didin't know about this.
That is just fucking sick, I had no issues with the banner, I just thought people were being abit to defensive against people not liking the banner.
But it would be pretty cool if we could nominate banners, and vote for the winner of the month. An artist spotlight, chosen by the fans.
Or maybe if new and aspiring artists were chosen to get them more attention.
Either way, it's still pretty nasty all around.
People just need to learn to ad-block whatever they don't like seeing as opposed to taking a dump all over an artist over something they really have no control over. It's not like Zacharie had any say in whether or not the staff chose her banner.
Everyone is all booty-tickled over nothing important or worthy of booty-tickling
If you don't like it then give polite criticism of what you don't like. There is really no point in saying "I don't like it". By saying "I don't like it" you are literally being rude to the artist because you can easily give your "opinion" in a nicer way.
I thought the banner was awesome, amazing and cute, and it's a shame that assholes are heard over the people who appreciated the artist's talent.
The assholes who gave shit should be ashamed of themselves.
I kind of like the banner, takes some getting used to but it is really stylized, differently something I would be into. Even if the artist has left I would take the time to go after them and check out more of their work.
I like the unique style, it's got its own toony abstract style that isn't too over the top. I would've commissioned them, and since it looks like they're posting elsewhere, I might do so anyway. They'd pull off my character very well.
That is what I was thinking. It would be well worth it to give them a shot.
Haters and so on exist in each community.
I fully support the mods and admins of this site for supporting the blvarying talents on here good job guys though I hope this means more frequent banner changes in th future.
I was wondering.. How does someone send a banner to FA?
rarelybrowse art on.and an asshole.
If you don't like it, don't come on FA to look at it.
Don't spoil it for the rest of us who enjoy seeing unique artwork.
Good day/night to you sir, or miss.
And you're just being a jerk, there's a difference between being honest and being an asshole and you've jumped into asshole territory.
But I drew you a picture though as a token of my generosity, please hang it on your fridge.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10848572/
Okay, we understand if you don't like it, but it could have probably been said better-
on the same note- I don't see what's so wrong about it.
And it seems people have driven :userzacharie: away now. : (
but I really like the banner! It looks like they tried pretty damned hard on it only for a lot of people to turn it down immediately and make bad comments.
This is too true.
LOGIC!
Personally I don't mind the banner, shame a bunch of people had to give it a bitter effect so to speak.
And as for the whole "no say unless talent" thing i answered that best i could in a different post that ive left up. But im really not looking to fight. Sometimes people just get to me.
I forgot where I was going towards the end of this. Dang. BUT ANYWAY I HOPE YOU HAVE A GOOD DAY DESPITE ALL THIS.
did i win the argument and reverse all damage done by adding more dramas
I dare you. :Y
No. Your arguments are simply the worst. Try again, honey cups. Toshabi offers you the gift of redemption, O ye of insipid logic.
No.
Just. No.
People who cannot draw do not know good art. Critics who are not artists should not be critics. This is what you are saying.
Just because they don't have talent in drawing, writing or creating music does not deprive them from their right to have an opinion and speak it. I agree the guy put it quite rudely, but saying that they do not deserve to have an opinion just because they cannot draw is just as bad.

>because you know having a backbone makes you totally immune to the words of others

Fffffffffurries.
problem solved.
