Perils Of Our Toons! (Free Art Lottery, No Catch!)
You've heard of Days of our Lives? Well forget that, this is no soap opera, this is something even MORE melodramatic and ridiculous. It's Hacker Raccoon's Perils of Our Toons! It's an absolutely free event where you can maybe get some funny toon art of your character, so if that sounds good to you, keep reading.
So what IS Perils of our Toons? Well, it's a sort of lottery where you enter one of your characters, and, at the end of the week, I randomly choose 2 entries from 2 different people. Then I draw those two characters in a scene or sequence where one of them pulls a slapstick gag on the other one.
Yep, you got it right... CARTOON VIOLENCE! If you enter this, and you win, you could end up as either the victim or the victor. You have no idea which it will be! That's part of the fun. Will you end up being the one dropping the anvil, or the one being squished under the anvil? Will you end up being the one lighting the comically over sized firecracker, or the one sitting innocently on the firecracker thinking it's a park bench? You just don't know until it's too late to turn back!
If you're still reading at this point- If you haven't made a face and dismissively waved your hand at this journal entry- you might want to know how to enter! You might be expecting me to say you have to watch my account, and then you have to mention this journal in one of your own journals, or something like that. Nope, none of that! Hacker Raccoon isn't into that kind of self promotion! This is all for fun.
TO ENTER, here is what you do, three fairly easy steps:
STEP 1: Decide on what character of yours you want to enter, and make sure that character has a reference image posted here on Furaffinity, on your account. It has to be on YOUR account, because I want to know that everyone entering is only entering their own character, and nobody else's. The character also has to be original. No characters from cartoons, movies or games. This character needs to be your own creation. The reference also should be in color, because I'm going to color the picture. The character also has to be toony and G-rated, or else one you don't mind me turning toony and G-rated.
STEP 2: Decide on a slapstick gag you want your character to pull on someone if they win! Here's the thing, though: I want this to stay funny and fairly classic, so the requirement here is pretty strict. The gag you want to do either needs to be established, extremely general and open ended, OR it needs to be a specific gag from an existing G-rated cartoon. I won't accept gags that are only shown in other artwork or only described in stories.
An example of a general, open ended gag would be "I want my character to drop an anvil on the victim." In other words, anything where I'll go "Oh yeah, I've seen that plenty of times in cartoons. That's classic!" There's tons of gags like this.
However, if you want to be even more specific, and there's a certain cartoon where you have watched a certain gag, and thought "Oh wow, I'd LOVE to do that to someone, that would be hilarious" then you can tell me about it, or even provide a link to the cartoon, and I'll do my best to re-create that scene. Just make sure the cartoon you're linking to is G-rated.
STEP 3: Make a comment on this very journal and in that comment, introduce yourself politely to everyone else who will be taking part, since you'll be meeting new toons during this, and post a link to your character's reference which I mentioned in step 1, then describe your chosen gag like I said in step 2, including cartoon titles, links or anything else. That's it! You're done. Finished. You're entered. That's all! You don't have to watch me or tell others about this journal. All you gotta do after step 3 is sit back and nervously await the outcome. Will you be selected? If you are selected, will you be the winner, or will you be the victim, humiliated by being subjected to someone else's idea of a good cartoon gag? Only time will tell.
So what happens after you enter? When the time's up, I'll randomly select one of the entries to be the winner, and then I'll randomly select a second entry to be the victim of the winner's slapstick gag. Then I'll draw up the results, post it, and the winner and the victim may both take the final art and post it in their own galleries if they wish! Or print it out and stick it on the fridge. Just imagine the conversations it can start in your home! "Yeah, that's a picture of me as a cartoon kangaroo unknowingly getting my tail roasted over a campfire by a cartoon wombat. It was more fun than my facial expression would let on! It was probably less fun than the wombat's facial expression would let on, though. Nothing's THAT fun. By the way, it was drawn by a cartoon raccoon."
Okay, that's all the info on how to enter! Now for a short list of rules. I'm strict about these, but they're really common sense.
1. Only enter your own character! Unless you created a character or own the rights to the character, don't enter the character in this event.
2. Only enter once! Don't enter through multiple accounts or anything like that. One character per person so choose wisely!
3. BE NICE TO EVERYONE INVOLVED! This is the Golden Rule. If you're going to enter this, you should be ready to put on your best face and make people happy they met you. If you win, be a good sport about it, and if you loose be a good sport about it. If you're normally a gruff socially inept buffoon, this is your chance to try something new!
Okay, that's the end of the essential stuff, so if you're someone who likes to read and get ideas, here's some Q and A style information about this event.
Q: Why do this event?
A: It's for fun, of course, but I also want toon fans to meet other toon fans, and what better way than through their characters pulling slapstick gags on each other? The 2 toons who get selected will end up having a piece of art to share, and might end up with something to talk about! The uncertainty also gets people out of their safety zones and keeps them guessing, which is always fun.
Q: Why not require that people spread the word about the event?
A: Honestly, more entries doesn't mean a better event. As long as at least 2 people enter, everything's fine, and from there more entries just means less of a chance of any one toon winning. I win no matter what, since I love to draw, so I don't want to force people to decrease their own chances while I sit there grinning and having fun. But if people want to invite others, they should! It works out best when people invite those who would really enjoy something like this, instead of just inviting every single person who wants to take a shot at getting free art. Oh, also, I can't deny, this is the PERFECT thing to pester your shy friends into joining! If you try to get someone shy to join and they try to make excuses why not, consider flapping your arms like wings and saying "BOK BOK BOK! Chicken!" If that doesn't work, try explaining to them that you'd sincerely love to see them win so their character will be victorious. They needn't know the truth!
Q: Why so limited on the gags? Why does it have to be either a general gag or a specific example from a cartoon? Why can't people just describe in detail what they want to have happening?
A: The gags that have become "standard" in cartoons became standard for a reason; They work well visually. I'm drawing pictures, so I want something to work with that is meant for pictures. Also the gags that ended up used in cartoons were put together to appeal to a broad audience, and I'd like the outcome of this to have broad appeal. Something ANYONE can enjoy, not just a toon fan.
Q: How long will it take for the final picture to be finished once the contest ends?
A: I can't say for sure, but I'd say a week tops. Probably much sooner, though! I have to fit this fun stuff in between responsibilities but I do love it so much that I'll be really high-tailing it to get finished.

First, introduce yourself (In-character introductions are fine!) so everyone else can get an idea of who they're in this with. Hi, I'm Hacker and I'm hosting this event, I can't wait to draw the outcome!
Second, post a link to a reference of the character you wish to enter, and make sure the link leads to a picture on your account.
Third, either describe a general toon slapstick gag or tell the title of a cartoon that contains a gag you would like to use. Tell when the gag happens in the cartoon, and if you want to link to a video, that's great!
And that's it! I'll make the deadline for this November 8th at the very stroke of midnight GMT.
My one and only character is Chip: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11676758/ . He's a dumb dog which means he's usually the victim, but he still likes to play pranks on his friends in all the toony ways.
Also I think I will go with use of mallets against others to flatten them into pancakes. It's great when you're a dog because you can always make frisbees whenever you want one! :3
I would love to push a boulder down a cliff then jump on it and run backwards on it to guide it to my helpless victim until they SQUISH! It's GENIUS and a perfect way to make my victim know who is boss!
BTW, thank you so much for doing this, offering free art and stuff. It's very kind of you. =)
~Omega, Super Genius
If you have yet to witness true evil, this ain't for the weak at heart superhero-http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11753361/
My favorite way to dispose of a meddlesome snooping superhero is to place a clue on an obvious X painted on the ground while a large anvil is suspended above them and I wait around a corner to release said rope with no chance of the plot backfiring. Mwahahahaha!
Dude, you are way too awesome for all of this
Hmm, which character should I choose... ummmm? Me of course X3 I'd like to blow up that pesky coyote, Omega with some TNT X3. But it would also be nice to have him as a rug too. X3 Choices! I'd go with TNT for now coa I think it'd be funnier and different x3
It's a really neato idea. Look forward to seeing how the next one pans out. Trying to get more into gags myself, feel like they're pushing me to improve!
Oh, well! Looking forward to all of the arts resulting from this!
