Announcing Fur Affinity: Project Phoenix
Fur Affinity is happy to announce that the next version of furaffinity.net is in active development. Our goal is simple, to provide you with a better experience that can be sustained and improved upon for years to come.
To reach this goal, we will be rewriting Fur Affinity from the ground up. Codenamed Project Phoenix, we’re able to take full advantage of new technologies that have emerged since Fur Affinity's birth, ensuring the site is easily maintained and extended upon for years to come.
We’re also working on a visual refresh, improving the overall look and feel, as well as the user experience. We’ll be holding our design to a higher standard to ensure that Fur Affinity provides ease of use while retaining high visual appeal.
Fur Affinity relies on its community, and it’s because of you that we’re all here today. We’d like to thank you for your patience and your faith. From today, we’re going to be posting regular updates regarding this project and the site in general. 2014 is a new year for us, and we want to increase transparency and trust for all aspects of the administration.
About Fur Affinity: Fur Affinity was created in 2005 as an outlet for creative expression within the furry community. Today it continues to be the largest active community site for the furry fandom.
About the Team:
We’ve established a team experienced in product management, UI, and the development of large-scale web applications.
Dragoneer: Owner and head admin of Fur Affinity, Dragoneer has been with FA since 2005. He manages the organization as a whole as part of his day-to-day responsibilities. For Project Phoenix, he provides top-level guidance and direction to ensure the project meets the organization’s needs and vision for the future of FA.
Adam Wan: Also known in the fandom as Zaush. Development lead for the new Fur Affinity. Adam has over 11 years of experience in various technical fields such as web development, game engine development, UX, and applications for integrated systems. Lately his work has been related to user experience, complex intranet tools, and integrated applications.
ctrlaltdel123: Developer working under Adam Wan to help with the new Fur Affinity. He has experience designing, implementing, and testing real-time software systems and web applications.
Nanuk: Product and marketing lead for the new Fur Affinity. Nanuk has experience managing and marketing products for large scale web properties. He works to help organize planning and development of the new Fur Affinity, while maintaining transparency with the community.

He is so adorable. x3
Here are the details, buried in the Furaffinity Forums.
I'm not a huge fan of Python but it does have a lot of great frameworks available, the language is still under active development, and it's a very easy language to learn and write incredibly-maintainable code in. Plus, it interoperates with pretty much everything else.
While I'll be tickled if it does, I don't think it'll really happen.
deleting my gallery and making a new one/starting at 0 isn't really convenient D:
I do agree with the previous user though, that it would be nice to have this implimented
I personally think the name change feature would be awesome to have here on FA
Also, NOT TO CHARGE A MEMBERSHIP FEE TO USE THE DAMNED THING >:I
That is what I hate about DA's name change feature.
Folders would be excellent. ;u;
please add folders please add folders please add folders and the ability to block keywords or catagoriessss....
Please let there be folders.
We're definitely open to suggestions at this point, so keep 'em coming.
And we'll be posting regular updates about the project as we move forward, so definitely expect to see more information, design tweaks, etc. coming down the pipes as we continue to work on it!
As for the submission folders, I'd be happy to have those implemented, especially if they could be custom labeled, but even just some basic ones like "anthro" "feral" "human" "macro" "vore", etc would be great too.
I think being able to select what options of what you get dropped in your inbox would be nice. Ie- if you just wanted to view someone's submissions and not their scraps or journals, or if you were interested in a community's journals, but not their submissions, for example.
I also agree with other people mentioning blocking keywords (like Tumblr Savior or something similar, which gives you the option to open an image anyway, but just places a text link placeholder so you know what's missing, if you're interested).
I'd love to see keywording enforced, at least one word for species and one word for content (ie "otter" and "vore" or "horse" and "diaper" or things like that) so people could do keyword blocking successfully, but I know some people prefer not to tag things (not sure why, but okay).
One thing I'd like to see go though is figuring out how to get rid of the "favorite has been removed by the user". I know it has no bearing on anything, but it's a little weird for it to show up just because someone clicked "add to favorites" instead of "download". I think maybe having the links for faving, downloading, full viewing, and send note (and also the newer and older buttons) should be moved around. I'd say having a stack of buttons to one side might be good a la DA, or maybe even underneath, and have the older and newer to the left and right of the actual image instead of just at the bottom of it.
Also- an option for storing artwork, an option for multiple scrappings, and for multiple deletions would be nice. Sure it might enable DFE-ers, but honestly they have no problem spending the time deleting, so it's not that much of a difference anyway.
Found this the other day and it's awesome! https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fi.....finity-filter/ They have one for Chrome as well, I believe.
ABILITY TO HAVE CHARACTERS - lets stop the people having 10+ accounts simply to give each character a page. I understand the need for it by artists but it gets silly when people use them to keep a butt load of characters separate.
I say good luck to you Nanuk. I lost all faith in the staff after kitashi left, please actually make this real and not simply another failed promise by fA. I'm glad to know the team consists of more than just Yak and that hopefully things can now move forward for the good of the site.
10/10 would interface
Its like an abusive relationship. They say they will change but they never do.
uggg its just a tease honestly
Its different yes. But it just doesn't appeal to me at all.
I'm bummed out you feel this way, but I understand why. There's been a lot of issues in the past when it comes to updating it, which is why this particular update was so long coming. We wanted to ensure that we had a great team put together and could cover all the bases. Now that we do, and we've started work, we can continue to keep you guys engaged and updated.
I know that your mind won't be changed overnight, but do know that this time it's forreals!
It just looks ugly and to bulked and cluttered. It needs room for personality and expression. I think if something is going to be an art site it needs to show creativity or at least have the option to have that.
I'm not a graphic designer but i did take some classes and this is just ehhhhh..
It would be lovely to have more personalization on the profile pages like personalized banner (like weasyl) or bigger and gif enabled IDs (like deviantart)
This current layout FA has now is not bad. Why can't this one just be tweaked and sharpened up a bit.
So its an old concept already they are tossing at us. Sooo WoooHooo
The current design is easy to work around, but i would rather them fix up the shitstorm code underneath it all. Cause the coding is terrible from what I have seen =v
Will FA be abandoning the classic pawprint favicon, looking at the Foxtail logo there.
Will FA still support a light theme? I'm all about light theme personally. You know really an overhaul like this technically could allow for things like user-defined site colours if it's managed correctly.
As for themes, once we finish the design we can implement themes later on.
Project Phoenix looks superb in any case, it doesn't look like a redesign anyone might be unhappy with. ^^
it sucks having a split crowd where if you make your profile look nice with color text and use dark on light or vice versa, its hard to see or looks like crap for people who use the opposite theme.
The preview you showed looks very nice, but I'm sure it can be improved even more from people that actually work in the field of design. And a contest (with some simple prize) could be a very nice idea to do.
You might not seem them on certain other devices, but this is Furaffinity's Favicon.
http://www.furaffinity.net/favicon.ico
So we're going to be approaching it from both sides this time, improving both the underlying technology of the site and the look and feel. Combined we should be able to put something together that can be easily and readily maintained and improved in the future!
It'd be awesome if for every account there was, say, fa.com/user/joeschmoe, and then adult.fa.com/user/joeschmoe. And the 'adult' one isn't activated until that user chooses to.
Food for thought. Would make the site much more welcoming to minors and porn-addicts alike (they'll know where to go directly instead of browsing all over, which'll lend to knowing which artists to contact).
And note, I'm not actually browsing FA "at work." I just sometimes pull up mine or others' art in public and would rather not have prying eyes see that. Also too I just don't like it, and so long as one filter is working why not make the full experience filter-able.
I'm sure porn artists would love putting up porn-friendly ads, too.
"We do not accept advertisements for mature sites any longer. Mature ads/links are not accepted. All advertisements must work-safe and tasteful - no nudity/adult situations may present."
ATM I am staring at Wetblush's ad that clearly shows two people having sex. Awesome.
I would love to have an ad system that worked like SF's of course. Clean ones show up on both filters. NSFW on, well, NSFW.
Maybe if they had something separate for banners? I certainly don't want to see blatant porn in them, but I can stand porn thumbnails in galleries (I just won't click them) or-potentially having three tiers for viewing? Off, Mature and Adult.
I'm pretty tolerant, but others may not be.
As a person who can appreciate artistic nudity and some violent/gore works, but would prefer to avoid straight-up porn, I think it would be great to have filtering "levels" or "categories".
We understand that there have been some negative projects in the past, and that's why we want to increase transparency and openness about things this time around. We know that it'll take time to heal old wounds, but we hope that by starting this right and keeping the project going strong we can make up for it!
Signed,
A former govt lackey who has worked in PR
I HATE SPAM!!
"I-I-I Can't!"
Please, MAKE IT HAPPEN
Thaaaaaaaank you <3
I know mobiles *can* load FA, but it's just clunky to navigate haha
Please - the regular updates and transparency are VITAL. If things mire and die, SAY SO, and do so QUICKLY. I'm sure you can understand if people are skeptical - but keep at it. Also: if people want to help, PLEASE give us a direction to look in. IE: a "Job Opportunities" page, where the skills desired for helping out with the project would be listed. I hope that the team leads on this project take the make-up of their team very seriously. Seriously: team dynamics cannot be understated!
We're willing to address comments about FA's history, about this project, but the policy and tolerance toward personal attacks and what is potentially libelous commentary has not changed.
I disagree with this. If you're going to doubt a programmer's competency, do it for a reason other than them asking for help on "common coding things", because needing to ask for help on something doesn't mean you're incompetent, even if it's for something that you (or others) deem "common" or "easy".
Aside from that, there've been a lot of people off site talking about it, but not in places that keep such text. Chats and some forums that get wiped and hidden.
Any examples?
Care to give a link?
At the very least you could acknowledge what Zaush has done and say he is a good coder despite what he has done. But you are essentially silencing his victim by pretending it never happened. I can not and I will not condone this behavior. I myself am a survivor of rape, not that you care, and I was also silenced by the man who did it. So I will not sit back and watch this entire site's team be rape apologists.
There is nothing ever, ever, EVER right about silencing a victim. I was only a child when it happened to me. Would you look at him and say just because he got away scott free that that means it didn't happen? All of these years of hate, desperation, and anxiety are all just in my head?? huh? Would you hire my step-dad on to code knowing he had raped me? I am totally and completely disgusted. I am also revisiting feelings I thought were completely gone. Thanks a lot. You have done a great disservice for women like me.
I'm glad you pointed it out in a civil way for the rest of us who were kinda of thinking it.
If we have the same incident/rumor in head-- Then I completely agree with why people are uncomfortable...But Imma take a more passive approach to this...and just say that incident and him coding the site are two different things. x__o But...In my minds eye he's skidding on thin ice of trust.
*grabs popcorn*
Like I would rather work with the current layout then that one.
I feel like it would work better if the design had more flow to it and less blocks of confinement.
The new design, at the moment, actually has a lot in common with the general design of the site as it is now. We're definitely aware that we can make improvements on that design, and we're looking into it. Remember that this is a design prototype, it's not representative of what the final version will look like, but meant to give an illustration of the direction we're going in.
I do appreciate your feedback, though. We'll continue to read over feedback and suggestions and take it into account when we continue to iterate on the design and features.
I will admit the current layout could use some tweaking, but nothing that couldn't just be added in. The mock up feels cold, stale, and unimaginative.
It would be really awesome to see a mobile version of the site, too! But even just a rework of the site will be awesome.
I'm also excited to see Adam Wan taking an active role in this process. I've always been a huge fan of Zaush's work, and if he puts the same dedication towards site development as he has towards his art, the new FA will indeed be quite a sight to behold!
Looking forward to more updates ^^
The downtime was definitely a bummer, and something that we hope we won't have to repeat with the new version. There's lots of exciting stuff coming down the pipes!
Do you have any idea what's involved in producing an animated film? Zaush produces a high volume of art, and while he may have burned out on a project or two in his earlier days in the fandom, I doubt there are many furry artists who haven't. I'm not saying that because I'm a fanboy; I'm saying it because it annoys me when people make smarmy remarks against an artist's lack of talent/dedication when they don't know what's involved in doing it.
I'm sure that there was serious consideration of many candidates before he was chosen as the development lead.
It's good seeing someone focus on the amount of skill and dedication that goes into doing what we do. Because far too many seem to overlook it.
Thank you.

Enough yet?
I did have a few unfinished projects in my career. I never built any hype around how awesome are they going to be though. Never failed my followers, Never broke a promise about my creations. I didn't gain fame because I value quality over quantity, and you can't gain a big following in the fandom with two-three releases a year, nor ever built any hype around my new creations.
And yes, I have to agree Zaush produced a large volume of art. I had this discussion with quite a few people. The conclusions can be summarized as "McDonalds of the fandom". Tons of bite-sized, generic things that do not require any special dedication.
Nevertheless, Zaush's artistic skill has nothing to do with the subject of this conversation. The subject is his dedication - ability to work patiently on a project that is bound to get frustrating, that is very big, and will require tons of diligent, down-to-earth, boring work. Something that sounds just as exciting as a large animation project, and costs just as much effort - much more than the initial enthusiasm would provide.
What *huge projects* does Zaush have in his portfolio? Anything that took him a year of constant work to finish? Anything to prove his *patience*?
I'm not here to argue about the quality OR quantity of Zaush's artwork. I merely made a statement that he's a dedicated artist - and let's face it: you can rise to the top without dedication, but you can't stay there without being dedicated. FurAffinity has, for a long time, ignored that fact - and they finally seem to be coming around, which is the reason we're having this conversation in the first place.
Zaush didn't get where he is now by just cranking out drawing at high commission prices. If you don't like his art, that's fine, but when you can claim the success that he has (and not to start an off-topic crapstorm here, but I will say that you certainly haven't got a lot of room to talk about the "MacDonald's of the fandom" when your art consists of My Little Pony fanfics and the occasional sculpture and/or photograph - and while you admittedly have some aptitude with photography and artisan crafts, the bulk of your art leaves very, very little room to make that claim about someone else's art).
The fact of the matter is that they considered several programmers for the site - many, many people have volunteered their talents. And if they stick to the transparency and higher standards that they seem to be promoting here, then it's very unlikely that Zaush will have total control of the project/coding. I think they learned that lesson from the outage last month. So if you're right and he doesn't have the dedication that's needed, I'm hoping he'll be replaceable.
And as far as "anything to prove his patience" is concerned, I'd say that sticking with the fandom in spite of all the underqualified haters would count for something.
I'm fairly sure about the outcome because I've seen this scenario in the past, but hey, miracles happen.
Folders, better organization of notes, ability to unwatch journals, etc????
And the new design looks so clean n.n
Hopefully this new FA happens!
I'm not quite sure what you mean by galleries/slideshows when it comes to viewing work. Could you explain a bit more? Definitely open to suggestions, but just not entirely sure what you meant. Thanks!
You'll see examples of displaying an image, with it's associated description and a pager. Clicking next or previous simply slides you to the new image/description as well. Ideally, you'll want to reload all the comments associated with the image too. Just some things to think about! Viewing a single image at a time is kind of the old style of things.
I'm not sure something like that would be included in our first release, but I am hoping to look at more dynamic browsing options in the future as well.
nevermind, i think my initial reaction is inappropriate, so i shall simply *snicker*
You sound like me. OTL
And hoping that the interface will be optimized for smartphones too. Since I'm sure most of us here open fa on our devices more than in our computers these days.
I think we all know where this is going.
Also, dat filler text.
I googled it, and was amused.
Hoping for a better new way for artists too like ... folders simply ? It would be one of the most amazing simple thing that you could add.
But in all seriousness, I'm interested to see how this works out. c:
My personal wishlist:
- keep most of the things as they are, I love FA for what it is :)
- especially the "browse for: my fetish (adult)" which is my primary means of using FA and the ONE thing I totally miss on all other sites
- preview function for comments / notes / journals (to see if markup, icons show correctly)
- bonus: prev/next navigation for when I'm browsing someones favorites (as opposed to the gallery of the artist having uploaded it)
Thanks for keeping up FurAffinity!
As for the code itself, obviously we don't want to go into a lot of detail for various security reasons, but we'll be utilizing a lot more modern technology, which does include more responsive, live content.
Our goal is to migrate the content with as limited interruption to service as possible when we do go live.
And thanks for the suggestion! We're definitely looking for those so keep 'em coming.
Being also somewhat responsible for the security of our product at work, I can both understand that you don't want do publicize every detail of your implementation, though feel the need to advice against "security by obscurity". The perfect system would be as secure when in secret as when everything of the whole source is public, except for the actual passwords. Designing with this in mind will make a product more secure, regardless how much will then be disclosed in the end. (also, if anyway possible, get yourself some white hats, red teams and pentesters if you're afraid of attackers, which such a famous site might easily get, especially with quite a lot of furry haters out there)
One thing I heard mentioning from others often - though I don't care for myself - is better content filters, so let people filter what they don't want to see. Breaking customized thumbnails made this quite clear.
On the non-technical side, where you need to REALLY improve is the perception of a dictactoric way of treating users and critic. I've not yet had bad experiences myself, but it's often enough in discussion everywhere, so regardless what's the real story - I don't know - it's the perception that's also quite important for FA's reputation. And I totally would hate to see it go away over such things, especially if you put such hard effort in keeping it up.
And I understand the desire for better content filtering, though it's something that comes with quite a few technical hurdles. Unfortunately when you add various filters it can put a lot of strain on the servers when they have to do a lot more processing to deliver those results.
Regarding the "dictatorial" comment. I admit I chuckled a bit, because it's kind of a common theme everywhere you go on the internet. Those who get in trouble have the perception that the admins are picking on them unfairly when, of course, you and I just know they're doing their jobs. It's definitely a perception we'd like to work on improving as well!
Because in the years I'm here, FA had several "restarts", as in first posts about changes, but they were never followed up by anything. From a PR viewpoint that's a pretty hard creditibility loss.
Thanks for your site, and all the GOOD things you do for the community here!
(the other things are repeated often enough elsewhere, so time to balance it out a bit)
And yes, looking forward to those news. Can't promise I'll like a new design, we'll see, but for sure any kind of progress is very welcome.
And please let us know if you need any kind of help, especially on programming and testing, as that's what I'm doing for a living.
I don't like reading light text on black backgrounds, it kind of irritates my eyes.
I dislike youtube for this reason.
I go to look something up quickly after I've headed to bed, and suddenly AGH IT BURNS KILL IT
STILL, it has its funny side and can make you laugh quite a lot...proooooblem is...how would THAT be used in HERE? ¡¡>-> (specially knowing theres always the troll who'll throw a disgusting RL pic ._.) sooooooo yeah, id see it as a 50/50 from my sight
But, yeah, I can see what you mean. That would get either very annoying, or very hilarious ^_^
1- Who uses it
2- What kind of reply is
3- About WHAT exactly is the reply
4- Hilarious or overcrossing the limits
5- The TOPIC <- (one of the keys here, if the topic is a rant or raging bout something theeen i think youll get the picture about what would happen, specially when its arguing n such)
And actually, your point there serves as an idea , to leave the user making the journal to allow or not the image responses owo sounds good enough xD (and can be quite less annoying than FB lmao)
1: Is there going to be a Mobile friendly version of this? Because currently FA is absolutely terrible to navigate using a tablet, muchless a smartphone. Even on a Nexus 7 (Grouper) and Galaxy S3 (i9300)
2: Will there be any sort of remote alert system, either via an app/push notification or email, that can be manually configured by the user? There are plenty of things that get missed here all because FA can't notify people of what they feel to be priority journals or submissions, like streaming notices.
3: When will we see manditory tagging, community tagging AND tag blacklisting? I'm sick of the MLP crap, yes I know there's a solution in the form of FA Filter. But things slip through the cracks and it drives me nuts. I'm sure there's other content here that others would absolutely love to see gone from their sessions here, and this is the way to take care of it. Thus anything that doesn't get tagged properly, gets taken care of by the community at large.
I'd love to be able to have a way to blacklist them so I don't have to look at pictures of them.
.....
*Mashes the like button until it breaks*
Hope everything goes smoothly for the new version!
if we everwhen we see it.and this layout is....odd. I'm sorry I just find it really weird looking.
Tho i do have a question has this been test at different net speed since not everyone has has broad band or dsl since there actual still areas that use dial up systems that are still in operation witch are still in use in rural area where broadband, dsl and wireless communication has trouble . I happen be one those folks that has to use dial up system just have internet since were to far for broadband and wireless data service is to expensive on a limited budget.
Fur Affinity - Is dial-up friendly, (basic load time for 60 thumbnail to load 4 to 6 minute) depending on site traffic it 6 minute can go up to 10 minutes
DeviantART- partly dial-up,friendly tho it flash and code heavy ( basic load time 10 to 15 minutes for basic inbox submissions ) ( one noticeable glitch that seem repeat a lot is item that are deleted reappear again alot )
Weasyl- Is rather code heavy basic inbox wait time can be between 10 to 14 minuted wait for inbox submission.
Sofurry- is dial up friendly(basic load time 4 to 10 minute for basic inbox submissions depending on site traffic
Coming Never!
Just it's whole design aesthetic |3
-Inkbunny looks rather hideous all around, in my view. (Undesirable content aside.) The green/pink/grey/white color scheme is an absolute eyesore.
-DeviantArt is good, but it's not furry-friendly. The look of the site is marred by occasionally poor performance, and I don't like doing stuff on DA because of how snobby their user base tends to be.
-SoFurry is awesome in terms of the social aspects and profile look - and marketing tools for commissions - but SoFurry is such a heavy site that it takes forever to load things on slower connections. Even on my broadband connection, I lose a lot of functionality because of how slow it is.
Yeah, Weasyl is... Above FA in all respects except the number of users :/
The only thing that site needs is more users
Not sure what to do with cub porn, though.
If you take a look, there are a lot of skeptical comments that aren't being hidden. In fact, I'm trying to respond to them as we go along to address the community's concerns.
However, as per standard policy, malicious comments directed toward members of the site or potentially "libelous" statements are not tolerated, and will be hidden in accordance with site policy.
You can feel free to file a trouble ticket if you require any further clarification on this matter.
Implied that along with revisiting the tech, they are doing other things not related to the tech, such as, ensuring that staff actually answer tickets in a somewhat timely manner.
And gods I hope so...
So I'm not sure Trouble tickets work
And until it is implemented, you could answer to the comment before deletion stating the reason why it was found inappropriate.
Do you think that would quench some concerns?
Just a little though, I'm super stingy about accessibility. It's oft forgotten!
Not a fan of flashy unnecessary crap. Too much clutter imo, even if it's trying to be streamlined.
It's a huge factor why I haven't really got into using Weasyl, Inkbunny, ect.
BUUUUT.....
No need to say the obvious.
If this all happens that is :P
That being said, we're always open to suggestions and I'd love to hear them! One of my goals is to ensure any suggestion left on any official site announcements is read and considered.
I understand and appreciate your role in this. In fact, I am somewhat surprised that the site can afford a professional marketing director. If you're doing this for free, kudos to you. I'd personally love to pick up some experience in this area, but the opportunity has not come up yet.
The question of the day seems to be folders. Everyone wants to know about your plans for folders.
Much like the others on FA, I'm here as a volunteer correct. Though I accept tips and free beer for a good job!
As for folders, we're definitely aware they're in hot demand and it's one of the many suggestions we're looking at.
Basing actions on a simple popular vote was never my suggestion. Making the decisions more transparent would be appreciated. People don't really care why something is approved or denied, they just want to know they were heard in the first place.
'commissions'
'annoying personal life bs no one wants to see'
'wanted/buying'
'convention crap no one wants to see'
misc
just saying, the ability to filter journals from people we dont want to see would be lovely. you know, like DA?
Everything needs rounded corners. Sites fixed.
do you really think that'd happen? really?
I actually managed to get that to work, for, like, two layers.Daniel wrote:[quote=Daniel][quote=Daniel][/quote][/quote]
Oh hai FA 2.O, your a little late there.
I won't hold my breath, but it sounds cool, and I hope this project is successful.
and why did this never actually happen?
fuck that one looks SO GOOD. We're stuck with this crap tho.

Open or closed source, it does not matter as much which when it comes to exploits. It may be harder with closed source for some exploits, but others can be found just as fast.
~ An actual "hacker."
At the same time though, most browsers come with the functionality to view the code behind webpages. For Google Chrome (the internet browser I use), just right-click the webpage and click View Page Source to see the code that was used to create the webpage. So, a website doesn't have to be open source for people to exploit vulnerabilities. Said vulnerabilities can be picked out regardless of if the website is open source or not.
Or do you know people who do this work as their day jobs and who would do it here for free?
ferrox v3 was open source. it still is open source, actually, so i'm curious why it has never been picked up and finished
We know we can't earn everyone's faith back overnight, but keep an eye on this account and the updates we post, I'm certain you'll like what you see!
I knew all the lettering was bigger, but I honestly wasn't sure what it reminded me of. But it does, it reminds me of Inkbunny and Sofurry mixed together.
I like the easy setup when it comes to uploading.
I just wish they would improve it, not change the design, but add things the user base would like.
Like folders???
I agree with you 100%
As for myself, I'm ambivalent. I don't really care how the site looks, as long as it's here.
Simple updates and little changes over time would make people happier.
It would be really cool of them to actually listen to the community.
Who honestly cares if it's pretty if it doesn't function, ya know?
It feels too "one page fits all" to me. Looks like there is little you can do to it to make it "your" page
Hmm, it seems there is change on the horizon...
Just being honest.
I think like several here that if that were the final design, I'd use the site less simply from how unappealing it looks.
Can't wait to see!
Still, I just get the sinking feeling about it. It's like, you have this car with a broken tie rod, and you're trying to fix it by painting the car an adding some decals. And the paint is gonna get in the gas line and you'll just be left with this totaled car that was so much better when all it had wrong was a broken tie rod.
Haha! Well, good luck on the project! ^^
Dat Tulio.
On the plus side, the new layout is just as ugly as the current one and somehow more poorly visually designed in the most basic ways. With less to look forward to, it won't be so annoying when it doesn't happen. Props where they're due.
banner looks great this month <3
While I do not stay on FA's side of things, facts are what they are.
You're right though, it is noteworthy that the screenie is from October of last year, that they've done no improving on this since then to show us all the awesome things they're totally for realities doing for sure guys! "much could have happened from then" I very much doubt that :/
(about message center)I hope the submissions won't be on the same page with favs and comments?
And are you going to introduce FOLDERS in galleries(main and scraps) and favs? PLEASE? So many users complain there are none... and it's a huge mess in submissions and favs on FA even if one would love to tidy up in there^^
I'd also love a keyword filter like on weasyl so everyone could have their own filters for themselves.
That would be extremely more helpful than adding spit shining something that really doesn't need to be fixed.
Project Phoenix? Well I'll be a wolf slathered in maple syrup!
The ONLY thing that's changed since I joined is that you guys added a bunch of new rules-- oh AND, and there is now a completely useless "commissions" tab at the top of my page!!
And looking at how many new layouts have been promised over the years, I have a feeling that, even expecting nothing, I'm gonna be disappointed.
Anything can happen though.
The last example I can remember we saw looked a lot like Inkbunny.
it's a big ugly baby.
been restructured into something completely different [from what we got now]?
There's a grave need-to-know. Ditto question for submission Comment Boxes.
Reason for asking: If how Phoenix handles fonts and screen space changes, all to the good,
since it looks good.
On the other paw, if this change forces a redesign and rebuild of *** 982 *** Directory
list pages--and two account main pages--then, ah... ummm...
Um.
Here's the FAWD Main Page. Take peek, you'll see the issue.
Can haz feedback, please? :- )
And as for harassment, your first step in dealing with any sort of commentary you don't like from another user should be to either let them know that you don't like their comments, if you think they're not purposefully being rude, or to block them. If they continue attempting to contact you after a block, you can submit a trouble ticket and our admins will look into it.
Remember this isn't just a UI change, we're reworking the site on from bottom to top, and changing a lot of code. It'll help us with functionality as we continue to improve and iterate upon the site.
I like to be optimistic when i can, but really now.
We’re also working on a visual refresh, improving the overall look and feel, as well as the user experience. We’ll be holding our design to a higher standard to ensure that Fur Affinity provides ease of use while retaining high visual appeal."
The word "also" has great meaning here.
But this page looks chaotic. There's just... way way too much going on to make this seem streamlined or simple. Perhaps considering having the side tabs just simply be tabs and clicking on them opens up the inbox on the right. Much like normal message systems instead of having a whole bunch of unnecessary clutter on the left.
Any chance on FINALLY getting folders?
Several of my friends who have been regular contributors to FurAffinity use dialup internet still, either for budget reasons or simply because they live in an area that does not offer higher-speed than that. I would be really curious to know if this site will be more dialup-friendly than the current FA, which has actually driven at least one person I know out of the community he loves, simply because sharing his creations with the community is more aggravation than enjoyment.
I would like to emphatically say that making this site less dialup-friendly than FA already is would isolate a number of users, some of whom have been major contributors to the site since its inception.
The current FA setup, while "old" is probably my favourite website layout from the point of view of accessibility reasons.
The prototype site layout? Not so much. I prefer this current one. It's very easy to navigate and isn't cluttered at all. Hell, I'd like to see an actual photo of the new layout on a computer screen instead of a large screenshot that makes everything really big and messy
This update will be epic!!!
Look, I'm not trying to be a jerk. I want to believe this will happen. But Im sure you can understand why so many of us are skeptical. This isn't the first time we've been promised changes and updates just to never see them come to fruition. If you want to restore user faith in FA's administration, actually follow through this time! We would be happy to be proven wrong! Show us you mean what you say, and are serious about regaining our trust. As has been said, communication and transparency are key but talk is cheap...we want to see action.
Now, having gotten that out of the way. I agree with what others have said about the prototype interface looking kinda busy/cluttered. But I like it alot better then the current, very outdated one. I believe it has great potential.
Again, as others have said, features that would improve FA greatly and I would like to see:
-a mobile version of the site optimized for smartphones
-a new way of organizing galleries, with folders
-the ability to blacklist/block certain content like some specific fetishes for example...if mandatory tagging would be needed to accomplish this, I don't see many users having a problem with that (I certainly wouldn't)
-upvote/downvote (like/dislike) buttons for comments and journals would be a nice feature (but this obviously isn't as important)
Thats all I have for now. I sincerely hope you guys follow through this time and show us you're serious.
We're also going to be reading through suggestions (like yours!) and keeping track of them. So I'll start out by saying thanks for the suggestions! We're definitely looking at ways to improve the UI, so we'll be looking at that as we continue to iterate on it. We're also aware of the high demand for folders and mobile phone support, and that's something on our roadmap as well.
It's also something that would be heavily abused and used to troll others.
A like/agree button would be nice, but downvoting could get out of control really quick.
My problem with a like/upvote/agree botton is that most people don't end up feeling the need to explain themselves, and sometimes that's nice to have.
I know this is for submissions, not comments, but why do we need to "like" a comment or voice our support of a comment without actually voicing it?
I forgot that the forums already have such a feature, but I don't hang out over there much. In my experience most people over there are jerks for some reason :(
(mild joke had to do it)
I have always disliked that system. If you wanna show support just comment, no reason to give the post a +1
note that this been told for yeaaaaars and was ignored over and over lol
Campion1 has a valid point though, as nice as it would be, it could also be abused too easily. Maybe if they just gave us a like/agreed button and not a dislike/downvote button that would be the best compromise and prevent some trolling while eliminating some redundant comments.
+ implement a blacklist/blocklist system to block submission of
cancerfaggotspersons who abuse tagging or don't tag their stuff at all.Dunno about the feature of up- / downvoting journals and comments, since most ppl's vote is rather based on opinions than logic. Which results that 'the thinkers outside the box' get picked on by 'the popular believe'.
You can say that the interface and structure of Fur Affinity needs an update, but one thing I always valued was its simplicity and the straight forward functionality -- no dancing around in useless sub menus, no multi-layer treadmills.
Which makes Zaush's other tweet from 4 days prior a huge concern.
Shouldn't you already have the knowledge in place before you decide what technology you're going to write a site in? Especially since it's heavily implied you're one of the people who is going to be coding the site?
This stinks of Buzzword Compliance instead of an actual plan.
As for features I would love to see tagging be mandatory for submissions. there's so many pieces of artwork that get missed because people are too lazy to tag their submissions regardless of if they are big name artists or not. If you see an image catch your eye one day and then try to go back and find it there's almost no way to do that aside from shifting through ALL the submissions if you can't remember the username.
By the way, where is the iOS app?
There is a 3rd-party app for Android (which is, of course, more open), but the lack of an API (as far as I know) has likely made development of it tricky at best - probably lots of parsing the site's HTML, which could change without the developer's knowledge.
A better approach is just ensuring the new templates and CSS adapt to different sized screens and give a decent layout on any - so all phones and tablets could benefit at once, rather than just one platform's app store...
Maybe, the new site design will incorporate that. *paws crossed*
Nobody should be building "web sites" any more, they're services and things like iOS and Android are where people are going to be using your platform, not through the pretty but often useless on mobile web front-end.
Apple allows NC-17 rated applications, too. You just need to file for them a certain way.
Then on top of that, Apple does limit apps. https://developer.apple.com/appstor.....uidelines.html - 18.1 & 18.2 would severely limit a "FurAffinity App", for example. I have not seen a way of getting around that when submitting an app.
Web sites still serve a purpose - not everything can (or should) be an app. The web is "open"... app stores aren't anywhere as close to what the web can provide across all platforms. Should Apple, Android, or Microsoft decide to remove web browsing from their devices, then I'd not be buying their devices. 8)
With an API it's possible to make an app that's not FurAffinity specific. This means publishing or supporting a more generic API and then building a site around that, or making a "clean" API available that can be reconfigured by the user to whatever else. Like to enable the full content you need to plug in a URL manually to the "Feed".
A well done app is way better than the best mobile web app, it's not even a fair contest. The amount of control you have in native code is way higher. They just take a ton longer to develop.
An app that could, theoretically, hook into FA, Weasyl, InkBunny and others would probably get approved...if the default sites were pretty squeaky clean.
I'm not debating the merits of an API or what a native app can do - I'm just saying that for a site like this, particularly with the inability to make an app (and the extra costs/time involved in making one even if it was allowed in the App Store(s)), a responsive website that can present the content well on varied-sized screens (phones/tablets/desktops) makes a lot of sense. Also, it's then not platform-dependent. :)
(no, we won't.)
I'd love to see it happen, but I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed. I really hope that the regular updates and transparency thing actually happens, and that it changes my view of the whole project, but until then I am going to just base my opinion on FA's track record :/
I guess the real question, though, is - what's the timeline?
"Fur Affinity was created in 2005 as an outlet for creative expression within the furry community." not any more though.
also since when could we embed images in journals?

Nor is it even relevant to him using his web design skills to help a team of equally-qualified individuals improve FA's website. If he did something bad in the past and it's not relevant to the world of web design and information technology, take it elsewhere.
I'm really confused about this whole situation right now. I have seen some of the hidden comments and never did I think warning people about someone were against the rules. I'm not trying to upset anyone with my post but I just want a straight forward answer without being afraid of being suspended for asking a question.
Stating events that happened that have a community as a whole very worried and upset, ignoring that community (shocker), and then having a site admin say that there wasn't enough substantial proof or what-have-you, is very...I honestly can't muster up the right string of words but it just makes FA look bad in it's decision to hire the right people to work on this. Having someone with a background of people referencing harassment of any kind from him to them, and putting them in a position of 'power', can make it awkward to ask this person questions, even fearful for some. If the users cannot comfortably communicate with this staff on site progress for fear of harassment, what does that say about FA?
But trufax, lets hope it's a sports car and not a lawnmower.
Anyway, I like the way FA is at the moment, just fun to see that as soon as FA began to feel threatened by Weasyl, INSTANT CHANGE!
Good luck guys
"...we’re able to take full advantage of new technologies that have emerged since Fur Affinity's birth, ensuring the site is easily maintained and extended upon for years to come."
"From today, we’re going to be posting regular updates regarding this project and the site in general."
"...while retaining high visual appeal."

Trouble tickets are being worked on, but there's only so many of us (especially since we've lost some staff members either permanently or temporarily in the last year) and not everyone handles every type of ticket. I know I personally spent several hours on tickets yesterday, though regrettably and admittedly I'd been rather unproductive in that area the last few months due to assorted RL issues/health problems.
I'm not sure what you mean by "admin notes" but there are VERY few situations where you should be noting admins regarding the site, unless you've been explicitly asked to.
Trust me, we are as concerned as you are about the ticket queue. It's not fun to log in and see a small mountain of issues needing to be dealt with, and we do feel bad that some people are left waiting for quite some time, depending on what sort of issue they're having.
There and only so many of you but hundreds, including myself have applied to be able to help handle them. Where are these new admins? Why aren't we hearing about them?
I say this because, no, my tickets, as well as my friends tickets, have been left unanswered for months, MONTHS. That is unacceptable, many of these tickets are theft and harassment tickets. A couple weeks?? Sure, I understand. But 2-7 MONTHS??? Come on guys.
While I can't and won't speak for the state of the last admin recruitment drive, I know I was only hired on early last year, after I'd already all but forgotten I'd sent in an application in the previous drive (months after I applied), at which point I was assuming I'd just not been picked and was quite surprised to be contacted.
Yes, there are old tickets in the queue. We are aware and we try to go through them as fast as we can. The problem is that if it takes, let's say, 3 weeks to get through the tickets filed in a given month (completely made up number, btw), new tickets have time to get old while the old backlog is cleared. There's no good short-term solution for this, unfortunately.
Also why are we just seeing the note page?? Why not a user page or the main page or something?
Fascists.
Hope that you can make it, but if not...please, don't do it again.
Or at least make the current site work better or add stuff into it before making a BRAND NEW FROM SCRATCH.
Add folders, add options for us artists to organize our gallery.
Add a blacklist of keywords and categories.
At least that two things should be easy to do, far more easy than a brand new site.
I'm sorry, I'm just so frustrated.
Why you guys do this? FOCUS ON WHAT YOU HAVE!
NOT ON A PROJECT YOU WILL PROMISE AND WE ARE AFRAID WILL NEVER HAPPEN.
And in case you wonder why we are afraid it will not happen...What happened to Ferrox?
I'm not even wanting an answer...just please, try to help the user base actually enjoy using the site, make it more simple for artists and art appreciators to be on it. AND THEN THINK OF MAKING A NEW PROJECT FOR AN ALMOST FRESH FROM THE OVEN SITE.
That's not hard, must be simpler than coding a site from scratch.
Still, hope the project work out just fine and we can see it in action.
Just to address some of your concerns, there were a great number of technical considerations that were taken into account when deciding how to proceed. The ultimate decision was to focus our resources on a new site in order to provide a better service as quickly as possible and continue improvements from there. The truth is, at the moment, Fur Affinity needs a great deal of updating on its underlying code and we must address those issues before we can move on to adding to the site.
We'll continue updating you regularly, and I hope that we can earn your trust again.
You need to update the code, and I will not deny that.
Sadly I don't have any knowledge in coding, but that doesn't mean I realize it needs work or at least a little bit of upgrade.
Yet, I just can't get your point, or the point of this project.
You want to make a new site instead of touching the old code that still parties like its 1999, which sounds more simple?
If its not simple, please explain why its not. As I said, I don't have any knowledge on coding and maybe I'm getting it wrong.
(Also: Current FA layout runs so fast that FurAffinity loads faster than any of the competitions, like SoFurry or Weasyl. Food for thought.)
...but, a blacklist would be very nice.
I'd just start blacklisting artist that miss-tag or draw things I dislike and do not tag them properly. Annoying on my end maybe, but I have no issue adding things to my blacklist on e621.
I don't even care anymore this site is dead and the new project is being run by a guy who should be in jail.
I doubt I'd pay to have my ad at the very bottom of the website.
Until I see actual progress, this is no different than the other projects and hopes promises and "were working on it" stuff.
It took Obama over 4 years to realize he won the election and to start trying his campaign promises instead of campaining, and hes failed miserably at doing them and his spin control to make it look good even if hes no clue on what to do just drives him deeper into the cesspool...
I have better faith and hope for change here.
wow
Are you fucking serious? Transparency my ass, covering up this shit is shameful, embarrassing, and immature.
I used to think that this site had a tiny chance of changing for the better, but at this point, I think you should just keep driving yourself into further and further into the ground. You've seem to have pissed of many different people for many different reasons in this journal alone, and it's giving people more and more reason to move to weasyl.
FA will kinda regret doing what is doing... Many people are being - very annoyed - by these actions...
There are several who thinks that this drama is completely wrong... And the staff might feel and regret after they see people really
leaving for good... Just because people -can't- handle it anymore.
I'm still a bit new on FA and i've seen quite -enough- of this...
But that story about -''that person''- is kinda... making many and me uncomfortable...
I will honestly follow who's actually right...
People are getting banned and i'm like wow..?
I wish good luck to FA... Cause i belive they are going to need it... :/
Oh and considering HWMNBN isn't even a staff member, so gee, wonder who I harassed by not speaking to or approaching at all!
The managing of this situation on the staff's end is very unprofessional, encourages and demonstrates favoritism within the staff (because FUCK the little people, right?), and all in all whoever did it should be ashamed of themselves for how embarrassingly they handled the situation.
And like I said, they're pissing a lot of people off very fast, and the userbase is literally all that FA has going for it, so they better be prepared to reap what they sow when all there's left are white knights, rape apologists, and various other scumbags.
And jesus, this is just my commentary on this page alone. God forbid I go into past management and the staff.
-DO NOT Harass Other Users
-DO NOT Bring Personal Drama to the Site
-DO NOT Impersonate, Harass or Defame Fur Affinity Users, Staff or its Moderators
The comments they're removing and accounts they are suspending are breaking these.
I'm not defending you know who but c'mon
Soooooo you're kinda wrong there, bro.
2. I said at least because they've said he did at least that much. I'm giving the benefit of the doubt to Dragoneer a little re: him knowing what happened, despite knowing the truth.
And once again I'm not defending that guy at all. I'm not saying what he did or didn't do. I just don't think the admins are trying to sweep this under the rug, but rather trying to uphold the code of conduct.
First off, would they have hidden the comments if it wasn't concerning who it was? No. Trouble tickets would have been submitted, and 7 months down the line MAYBE they'd be hidden. Because of who it was concerning, action was taken immediately. This isn't the first time the staff has played favorites, either.
And they did not just hide the comments, they suspended people for bringing up a legitimate reason for concern. Any other company would handle negative press in a more tactful manner, be it confirming or denying. Covering up a real, very legitimate issue with the staffing situation and commentary on how they are handling it (no matter how either brash or polite it is) is not transparent at all, it's childish.
And might I add that many of the comments were not harassing, they were pointing out a known incident and calling for awareness and a proper handling on the subject at hand.
But as much as you enjoy it, I'm not here to argue with you again. I've thrown in my two cents and if you disagree, then you disagree.
"Lol of course you of all people would respond."
I don't know what this has to do with anything
"First off, would they have hidden the comments if it wasn't concerning who it was?"
Yes. I don't know if you've noticed but they've added a good number of staff and tickets are now sorted out fairly quickly.
"And they did not just hide the comments, they suspended people for bringing up a legitimate reason for concern."
These "issues of concern" (basically just calling someone awful and mentioning rape or sexual abuse) from what I've seen have not much to do with his actual coding abilities and should be taken up with the administration instead of trying to crucify someone in the comments section.
"Covering up a real, very legitimate issue"
They're not covering up anything, everyone knows about all of this by now and if they don't there are plenty of other sources.
"they were pointing out a known incident"
Reinforcing my last point.
"calling for awareness"
defaming (whether he deserves it or not)
"I'm not here to argue with you again."
That's fine, I'm just trying to point out that the admins aren't playing favorites or trying to cover things up
Also will the
Oh and folders
But active change sure does help.
I hope you have folders and a blacklist option in the new FA. C: Would make it easier to navigate, too.
:D
Thank you for hard work to FA team
Holy cow, I'm so sick of you, its unbelievable. I was reading comments and...REALLY?!
You are here, you are reading news, you want site to be better and you come here to write "HAHA GOOD JOKE" and "NOT GONNA HAPPEN"?!
How about just closing a tab if you think that it's not gonna happen? If so, why it bothers you? Then NOTHING will change for you. Move on.
No matter if something will happen or not, there is a hope and there SHOULD be respect for people who actually are doing something, instead of whining.
How shitty is that, to use this site every day and write comments like that here?
Maybe I'm raging because Zaush is my friend and your comments looks for me REALLY disrespectful, but if you think about it, it looks that 90% of people here are experienceing lack of manners.
I know Adam, and I saw how he is working on this project for a long time already. I trust him. And I have a hope for better FA.
While being sceptical, remember, that there is a huge difference between this and being just simply rude.
Yours Truly,
Fleki

Maybe they'll work and get it done. Maybe it wont get done. If people pull up their sleeves and stop using excuses things would be that much closer to being done, and if people stopped being rde every five seconds it would help.
Anyways, theres a good way to present everything my dear. Tact and politeness go along way..and i feel your words could have been said better considering some of that was an antirude behavior speech.( so could a lot of things on this page, most likely including my own but you know)
Wouldn't mind spoiling some features being added in Project Phoenix? ;)
but not hold your breath guys....
Perhaps you can ensure that supporter roles and the ability to donate comes back as well (at least via non-money order means - money orders to the US cost normally more than the amount donated).
The mock-up looks very rushed and to be honest, it doesn't look it is part of an art community/social site - it really looks like some people pointed, as an email reader. It needs some air, I wish I could explain better.
More mock ups from the user pages, front page and gallery folders would have made this a much more "official" announcement in my opinion.
we are literaly waiting for years and suggested over and over, if you cannot because of coding or web site design, then you lost my hope. There are alot of volunteering coders that are willing to work with those problems.
-insert white knigthers bellow-
"We'll attract more and more furries to this furry art website thing, then we'll give them free membership and then ruin their dreams with not always following through with updates we wil say we are working on. We'll make millions.."
We'll be waiting so long, oh no. Because we are seriously in need of new interactive websites. Hell they should pay us to be members too right?
How about Dragoneer shuts the website down and tells everyone to fuck off and he has his own family to take of.
backing up all my favs and opening all new submissions in new tabs is going to take a lot longer now ;_;
is okay though, it'll be for the better, i'll just have to wait for an addon update
but the "free site" argument is bullshit in the web 2.0 user-created content world. no one owes this site shit.
It can happen.
It will happen.
and yeah, folders, definitely.
In the other hand, nobody praised him (that I saw) in this thread of comments.
If we're going to get fussy, you could argue that even just not bad-talking him is a form of praise. "You're such a good coder, we're gonna let you bring FA back from the dead, and we're not even gonna say a thing about all the stuff you've been accused of! And, y'know, joked about. In pubic. Recently."
Sure it is! We would all like to donate our time to code for a site that we keep throwing insults at! As far as I can tell, only a few actually have the competence and time to rebuild FA from the ground up.
Mind you, I'm not sticking up for Zaush but whatever has happened in his past has NOTHING to do with coding the site, and Dragoneer is LETTING him code the site.
As far as "not bad-talking him" hasn't it really been done to death by now? We're pretty much beating a dead horse.
Second, WHY THE HELL are so many people INSISTANT that this guy is a sexual predator? NONE of these people attacking him were there. none of them know what happened. only Zaush, and that girl knows what happened. its between them, and the authorities. its his word against hers. but since HE is a GUY, suddenly he is guilty of rape because she says so? thats illogical. keep in mind that i in no way imply that she is a liar. i am simply stating that NONE of us here will ever know what truly happened. He COULD have raped her. she COULD have lied to get attention. NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW. people need to stop forcing their half-baked "opinions" about a guy they may have never met or even spoken to and give him the benefit of the doubt.
Also yeah, folders would be cool.
Site outages, updates, backup, server failers. It's excuse after excuse, so what will be te next excuse FA staff will have when the new pet project gets scrapped? "It's outdated software." That just enough for more to be documented in the article alone along with how the admins are being called out because many of them can really handle the truth.
and they're actively deleting anyone who posts why zaush is such a bad idea. ~transparency~
I think people are allowed to voice an opinion on not liking an admin whos done really bad things in the past.
Some how, I don't think it will effect the donation frequency:
http://donations.furaffinity.net/
I think people are perfectly capable of voicing these opinions on their own private services instead of expecting someone else to host it for them when they don't care to host that sort of thing.
It is a shame, though. Nuking comments won't change the fact that many people already know what happened and disapprove. D:
I really doubt this is going to actually happen.
Oh, for those who don't know, you can type the number at the start of any FA download into a Unix time to real time converter, to see when something was uploaded, right down to the second. Here's a link to a converter for the curious. It convert in both directions, so you can type in a real time and get the Unix time out of it.
http://soft.zoneo.net/Unixtime/index.php
Though reading through all the comments on the page, it's clear that we don't really deserve it. Honestly, people that use the site, to do nothing but bitch about the site that's trying to improve itself. I really don't know how all the staff puts up with all the trolls and all the drama freaks that just talk shit and whine and complain whenever you make a positive and hopeful announcement. The self entitlement of "I do nothing, but I deserve FA to be perfect! You bastards are failing in every aspect of it and ruining my life over it." is practically dripping most of these comments.
Short and sweet, I still love FA and I'm very grateful it's around for me to share my art. Keep up the good work and I'm looking forward to a positive future!
This is on them, even if the rest of us are being obnoxious. Their bid to survive. They don't need cuddling hugboxes right now, they need the cold hard truth.
So get this update to become reality this time, please?
Cause I really hope that FA will get updated for this decade real soon for real and not only as promises and not doing anything about it
Calling stuff things like 'Project Phoenix' just gets up my nose tbh.
It's eye-rollingly cliched.
Given FA's track record I personally would've held back on making any announcements until this new interface was all but ready to be implemented. Giving us a glimpse of yet another half-finished - possibly a year from completion - yet to overcome any number of unforeseen stumbling blocks - project, was obviously going to stir up a lot of negativity from a userbase who has already experienced seeing many half-baked, half-cocked, promises fall through or disappear into the ether without a trace or explanation.
So I guess I'm saying that - as a PR or marketing exercise - showing us yet another new interface that has no solid deadline for completion was a bad idea.
From my own standpoint I can say that I think FA is a wonderful site that gives a lot of unconventional people a way to express themselves and that I only want FA to grow and flourish and live on forever. I don't have any personal grudges against the site owners or admin and wish them only the best of luck with finally getting to grips with expanding upon FA's existing (albeit basic) interface.
Please prove my own and many other people's doubts wrong and follow through with this.
Good luck with it.
That said, we do plan on providing regular updates in lieu of an ETA. This will let us continue to keep you guys apprised to the development and progress of the site while we work.
Just give me my folders and I'll be happy.
Folders are all I've ever wanted - you can keep all your other changes in development for all I care.
I understand the desire to want to stick with the look and feel that's successful on Weasyl and Inkbunny, but FA should take a different course, in order to stand out as worth the extra attention when the new coding rolls out.
Also, regarding the "transparency" of the staff making this. I'm not saying it won't happen, but I understand other users' skepticism considering how little communication there has been in the past regarding the other "site overhauls". Also, no hard feelings for Nanuk here, but... it generally looks better to bring someone in and announce them BEFORE they start speaking personally on behalf of a company. One could deduce that if his profile remotely suggested such a thing, but it doesn't. Without having skimmed through a considerable percentage of replies, no one would know who or what Nanuk even is in relation to the site.
Even if this doesn't work out with this coding, I beg you guys to update and let folks know a bit more about WHY it was scrapped/trashed, rather than letting it disappear silently.
That said, I do need to update my profile and it was something I was planning on doing tomorrow. Just have to bear with me while I come up with some clever stuff!
However, the design prototype DOES look promising. I would suggest keeping the User ads in the same spots as they are now however. Some people might miss them otherwise. It looks a WEE bit cluttered in that shot for the inbox to be honest, but that's mostly on the left.
I do like having the logout button at the top, that looks nice. Not sure about the color scheme but that's only because I prefer the dark theme for the site. Maybe if the current site colors were kept it would be good, then again I'm a bit fussy with color schemes. The darker ones are always my pick.
A better filter so one can pick from the different submission types to weed other items out (such as if you wish to weed out adult art with a submission theme of "Hyper (Adult)" on it) would be a good idea. I don't mind adult artwork, but if I'm trying to find one thing and end up with a bunch of things I'd rather not see, I'd like to be able to either weed out what I don't want see or look specifically for what I do want if at all possible.
I hope nothing I suggested sounds bad. Still, if this does happen and features the users would like are taken into account and used, it'll be a wonderful change. At least it'll be better than some of the Deviantart ones.
Leave it be if you're not giving a shit
Yeah, this will never happen. Those who are telling you aboyt the REAL issues are just being silenced.
Good job on being fair admins. <3
The admin may be legally-bound to hide comments which could be construed as slander or which have no legal grounds - both for their own legal safety and for the legal safety of the users who have made the comments without thinking about the legal pitfalls of what they're doing/saying.
I'm not sure what to make of this...
I know it's an insult but it's rather complicated.
And all I was doing was comparing, eg. "you don't bring up such private matters in public, why bring them up here?" I know there's a fallacy, where you can hide behind the Internet and act much, much worse than you would in public. I get that.
But as far as I'm concerned, Zaush is helping to rebuild the site from the ground up, and we should all see where this ends up going, instead of continually bashing him, especially since that's not really getting us anywhere.
No, it doesn't.
The problem with the legal system is that anyone can say anything about someone else and it's very difficult to prove hearsay. You got raped, yes, but let's say someone really didn't like their uncle or something, and gave that as a lie?
Regardless, it's a very delicate matter, and there's not much you can do if the law fails you. Please don't go off on me because of what I said. I hate rapists. It's a horrible crime to commit, probably one of the worst.
Theres nothing to be done at this time anyway, theres only so far back you can go and I've already taken him to court. How old do you think I am? The justice system will only go back 7 years and at this point, I wouldn't even WANT to.
Just because it fell apart, does NOT mean he was innocent.
My point still stands, what you said was rude and offensive. Not every rapist gets into the system or is even punished accordingly or gets caught.
Did you know that rape victims also have a low percentage of taking things to the police or even once they do that they'll be taken seriously?
Of course theres going to be people who make false accusations and all it does it hurt people like me and innocent people who wouldn't rape someone else.
But who are you to say this was just false accusations, have you not even looked at the chat logs? She didn't even go public with the information, it was all private until FA got hacked.
If you hate rapists so much, don't say things that hurt the victims of said rape, have a little respect for the person who has had to deal with that BS their entire life.
I don't know what makes a man (or woman, in some cases) want to rape, but that needs to be stopped.
I'm sorry if I've said anything disrespectful too.
I think it's entitlement, just like my rapist felt he was entitled to my body. I also think it's because these people are socially spoiled. Just as the person is question, so many people will completely ignore the possibility or even if he's done it, they shrug it off because they'd rather be on his good side than his bad because hes gained such an enormous amount of popularity on this website. These kind of people aren't told they're wrong by a vast majority and so they begin to believe they never did a damn thing wrong. Thats why so many people are upset and I am too... I'm worried about the private information he will have access to. I'm not worried whether or not he will do a good job on the site. I'm more worried what he'll take advantage of to use at other conventions for his own benefit. He has given us no positive reinforcement that he will behave himself behind closed doors with unlimited access.
Lastly, thank you, from the deepest part of my heart. Often times people will not even consider others' words and just stick their head in the sand while they ignore whats being said. I really admire that you at least apologize, even if it may not be something you fully understand, you're willing to show that you care. To me that's what is important.
So much
"since he didn't get caught, the rape never happened"
"who cares"
"what an attention whore"
"she should have gone to the cops instead of whining to a website"
not to mention but Zaushes page is flooded with condolences.
Do people not realize how this can make rape victims feel?
I wouldn't want to come out and ask for help either....
whats sad is the furry community is supposed to be safe, a place for people who have been out casted and ridiculed their entire lives and all im seeing the last few days are rape apologists and mass victim shaming.
The people should care because the future affects us all. Tomorrow it could be their sister, their mom, their girl friend, their boy friend, their niece, their nephew, their cousin, their son, their best friend.... If we don't stand up against people like this, they're just going to keep thinking they can keep raping people and get away with it socially.
So thank you, what little support people like me do get, the better.
This here is a microcosm of a phenomenon on the Internet right now.
It's shameful, but perhaps almost inevitable. FurAffinity is shooting itself in the foot.
People are saying they're leaving -- and I won't poohpooh that, like so many others have.
Frankly, I do hope they leave FA for good and do not return. Not for any feeling of "good riddance" from me, but because it demonstrates more courage than I could.
Reading these things is very hard, but slowly, there is a shift happening. Survivors are standing up for themselves and building a foundation for others to borrow courage. And those who say cruel things are learning to swallow their pride, and learning empathy.
Slowly. Very slowly. But surely.
Thank you
from how people have acted, because my rapist got away, im just a lying, manipulative, attention seeker.
but after so many years fighting this battle, i know im not, i understand what was done to me was wrong and that blaming myself or listening to others who agree that i should blame myself is wrong. im worried more for people who havent come to terms yet and are still in an easily triggered self guilt mode. to think, for a bunch of people who dont want to be judged and just want to be considered, that they outcast others who have been horribly wronged by society.
the worst are the ones who spout "oh but i hate rape and i believe rapists should suffer, but..."
its all right to question motives, to inspect and think it through and not jump to conclusions. but if anyone actually took the time to see all the proof, they would see it all in a new light. too many people are insisting conspiracy theories over rape, insisting that theyre the only ones looking at it with logical fact but yet ignore warning signs and evidence for "the justice system is always right and perfect in every way"
if i murdered someone today, and never got caught, that person would still be dead and i would still be a murderer.
I got jipped out of free mental health care but I've really wanted to try going back to therapy, I've heard really good things for patients with ptsd to do particular eye movement treaments. Maybe therapy would help you.
Live every day to your fullest, maybe take some self defense courses, boost your self esteem in any way you can <333333333333
I'd like to be able to change my username (ONCE, JUST ONCE) so please make that possible in the redesign.
Secondly, I would like to see the custom thumbnails come back. I mean, what's the point of having them in the submission options if no one can see em? It actually makes sense to keep them functional as several other sites (including Inkbunny and I think Weasyl) also use them.
They should fix the thumbs, for those who wish to use them, but they really need to make it an option that we can turn off in our account settings.
bonus points if this gets hidden as well because then I will know
Though I do know what the comments were about as I read most of them before they were removed. Surprising there is one guy who isnt suspended yet after bringing it up multiple times lol
CHERRY PICKING? IN MY FA? NEVER.
It might also help to include a preview option for comments.
And I'm hoping for a preview function in the future too. ;)
Please keep people with low vision, and other disabilities, in mind while designing the new site. There are plenty of users with low vision in the fandom, and the current FA has done an excellent job at handling their needs so far. I hope I can still say the same after the UI updates. I honestly have no complaints about the current UI. I'm not against something new, as long as it doesn't break anything that we currently have and enjoy. Readability, accessibility and efficient ease of use are very important to maintain. Thanks for reading through this.
Remember that what we posted right now is just a design prototype, the final version will likely differ and we may be able to offer a lighter theme on first release.
For accessibility, I can understand the need for higher contrast. Just so you know, there are some apps out there, like this app for Chrome that help with high-contrast on sites. As for sizing, generally increasing/decreasing text size shouldn't pose a problem on most major browsers and most websites, so I don't necessarily anticipate it'll be a problem. But I'll keep an eye on that. Thanks!
Light on dark, or dark on light, is going to make some users happy and others unhappy, no matter which you choose, so that's one that needs to be switchable per user, as it is now. I simply can't see well on a dark background, and I know people who can't see very well on a light background.
Text size is a problem that no plugins or browsers seem to solve in an efficient manner. A badly designed page will often truncate text if it becomes larger than a stylesheet's defined areas can contain. Or, the text will overflow it's defined regions and overlap with other text on the page. Temporarily shrinking the text using ctrl- in most browsers will reduce or eliminate the truncating and overlapping, but then the text becomes far too small for people with low vision to read. Other plugins and browsers solve the text size problem another way. When you increase the text, they also increase the page width to compensate for the larger text. This prevents any truncating or overlapping text, but because the width of the page is now scaled, the user now has to deal with horizontal back and forth scrolling, as they move down through a page. It's not uncommon for some pages that are scaled this way to be three times the width of the user's monitor. As you can imagine, having to move the entire screen left and right a dozen times to read through a single paragraph is an inefficient usability nightmare.
The good solution is whatever FA is currently doing, or whatever Ink Bunny is currently doing. When I increase my font size on either of these sites, the text becomes larger, and it simply reflows as the size increases. There is no overlapping, no truncating and no horizontal scrolling. The sites just work, and I love it.
As long as you are keeping accessibility in mind, and occasionally checking it, I'm confident that we'll end up with a great UI that everyone can use easily.
Also, there was an announcement regarding more transparency with the administration quite a while ago... and to my knowledge, nothing changed.
Not every site needs to look similar, as others have voiced. The current FA is unique and uncluttered, and easy to use what's there.
Yes, some things are needs, like folders, improving the function, etc. But I feel this new UI is unfriendly to some, myself included.
I agree with some, leave a legacy interface for those not versed in new, shiny things.
... and "If you like your profile, you can keep your profile."
Plus have both dark and light backgrounds. Dark is easier for me (grey, not black, so the contrast doesn't burn my eyes)
but I know many like light as well.
Is that...note stacking...like Gmail? Will each be able to be opened and closed individually, for easier reading and looking through?
Or will deletion of one remove the whole thread?
A skip to top / bottom button would be nice...
Don't get rid of searching, like I saw someone worried about. If anything, list all the different ways to search specifics...
...and yes, a keyword blocking filter would be nice. It would help relevancy.
There is an old computer saying: K.I.S.S. "Keep It Simple, Sir (or madam)."
Don't bog us down with clutter and confusing little icons. Put a word with it for us so we know what it does the first time.
Plus remember mobile means no mouse hovering to pop up a description.
Not all of us are of one generation. Some of us like not guessing what a button does.
I know this is a long comment, and apologize if the opinions expressed herein are not yours.
But it's my two bits...or dime...or 2¢.
I'm old...get off my lawn! X3 (Seriously, thanks for reading.)

Did the sfw button disappear?
I love FA, its community, etc. But as a site, it's currently ...I guess "outdated" (technologically speaking) would be a good term. Sites like deviantArt seem to have more of a solid back-end, while FA has the furry community that I feel a lot of those other sites are lacking.
Seeing FA in "Web 2.0" technologies is something I have ALWAYS hoped for. I would really love to see this update come to life, and quickly!! :3
Looking forward to all the new FA has to offer!
~Kat the Foxtaur
Talk is cheap, showing what it looks like won't prove anything, showing anything won't prove anything. If you want it to work, hire new people to take over that know what their doing. Nothing going to change until that happens. :<
Judging from what I've seen and read, it looks like their may have been previous projects. If you want the support of people, things have got to change. If nothing does, then no one will support you guys. Sorry.
In other news, I really adore the new banner. It looks so nifty and nice. Perfect for winter. ^-^
i do find it interesting that this so called brand new UI has october 2013 stamped on the bottom.
The new look is nice, and very needed like most have said C:
And agreeing too, I do hope there is folders to help organize notes <3
Knowing who made it just sort of washes away any hope I had about it working well too...
Meh.
New banner is adorable though :D
Could we maybe go in that direction instead? Or something very similar?
Just the example given, seems very cluttered and doesn't flow well at all. I'd prefer usability over fancy bells and whistles to be honest. Something not so hectic on the eyes ect.
Also agreeing with leaving hover menus out. I loathe those so much.
Also agreeing with leaving hover menus out. I loathe those so much"
AGREED :3 I've always loved FA for exactly the reason that it DOESNT have many bells and whistles, it's SIMPLE. It's why I don't use Weasl, Sofurry, or DA, cause the site just has too much crap going on at once and it's like the submissions are secondary to the site itself instead of the site focusing on the submissions first.
https://db.tt/5i18DAls
I'll be waiting for your future updates and wish you good luck.
I'm also not going to ask about the timeline of development since I know it's not possible to rewrite a site of this scale very quickly.
So my only real questions are:
A. What are the goals of Project Phoenix?
and B. When it launches in 20XX, what features are intended to be included on release that are currently not features of FA?
Maybe bringing in a creative consultant on this to help with the design instead just copying other art site's layout.
AGAIN-- No--
YA KNOW WHAT.
I WILL LITERALLY SHUT MY MOUTH UP ABOUT THIS SITES 99999999999999999 FORGOTTEN PROMISES IF THEY CAN JUST GET THIS NEW THING /RUNNING/.
IT DOES'NT EVEN HAVE TO RUN /WELL/. JUST HAVE IT THERE.
AT ALL. I LOST FAITH IN THIS SITE WHEN THE COMMISSION TAB CAME SOME 5 MONTHS LATE AND MEDIOCRE AS FUCK.
BUT AT THE /VERY/ LEAST......
IF THEY COULD JUST.................UPDATE IT.....................
I would totally forget /EVERYTHING/ about the past-- Because them just updating it (EVEN IF IT'S BADLY) would have me /SO/ FLOORED that a promise would have finally come true.
SO PLEASE.
PLEASE.
I BEG YOU.
DO IT.
DON'T TALK-- JUST DO IT.
Srsly-- We're all fucking stuck here since 99% of people won't MOVE to any other site unless FA is down. -_-
So people who make a living off of selling furry art (like me) are stuck here like it's Limbo. SO.....AT THE VERY LEAST...It would be a fresh breathe of air if they could just.....DO THIS....and it doesn't get brushed under the rug like the Ferrox Project. OTL
Please....I'm begging you....
Ok, your comment genuinely made me laugh.
And just for that-- I won't panic.
I will still be /HIGHLY/ shocked if they upkeep their promise this time. :/
But yeah-- I also agree-- if they miss and this just gets a rug thrown over it like most other things, they'll just keep beating a dead horse.
I've talked to him about this stuff too. xD
But not with furaffinity.net
Gallery folders are just a dream.
Promised like many other things about 5 years ago!!!
The best thing is to give up all hope. :(
It will not get better.
They just play around with the design and style.
This is the Project Phoenix!!!
Nothing else.
As everyone's already said a million times before, it's the audience that people like about FA. So...-shrug-
I would really love to see an instant push notification system Like most sites have now day. Easier navigation, and maybe some Art/journal/etc Refresh buttons so we don't have to constantly refresh the whole browser page XD. Also will ther be any update to the added Forums and Chat system possibly? Maybe integration to the actual site?
Do you have any plans on implementing API? Like, for those blokes, who'd like to make free mobile app that would nicely fit into the website architecture. And, is there any plans on some COMET server for real-time notifications?
But It could help since the old people may not want it to change (Legacy view)
And some may want new tech ability.
Just an idea.
will it be possible to change usernames?
seriously ill even pay for it at this point lol name your price im not messing around
WUT
What I'm most worried about not being addressed here (the back log of trouble tickets) I'll leave this on a note regarding administrative transparency: I'll believe it when I see it. A culture of secrecy and apparent cronyism cannot be dismantled over night.
good luck on the project
Really, putting Zaush of all people on this project was a horrible idea.
I've heard the same words used for Yak and others on FA development. I am desensitized to this type of baww, you need change it up a little.
I think it's better that it's announced rather than in secret, imagine what a 'scandal' it would be in the furry community.
Also, I don't really see why it matters if he's the development lead if he's good at his job. It doesn't give him special powers, it gives him more work to do.
When dA switched to it's current, heavily scripted site, I lost most interest in it.
Why? Here's a few resons:
Slow loading of pages - many users on here have older computers and this would greatly affect their browsing experience.
Strange behavior - the way changing pages works on dA is a total mess. If I click somoene's art in their gallery, it doesn't actually change the page, so hitting back will (usually) return me to their profile instead of their gallery. And opening a piece of art in a new tab removes the ability to cycle through previous/next submissions.
Non-working mobile site - dA's worked for a while, then it broke again, apparantly not letting you manually decide whether you want to use it or not. I use a PSP sometimes to browse the net, and dA became a major MAJOR pain this past year. I can't even check my inbox on there, because all the page elements just mash together and it doesn't even display the messages (due to excessive use of scripting.) Not everyone has a smartphone, or is guaranteed that their phone will be detected (especially for outside the US.) If FA becomes unusable on small devices, please have some kind of mobile version available for users. The current one "works" - in quotes because while 90% of things work, I can really only check my inbox by either cancelling the load of a page before the fancy menus load, or memorizing/bookmarking the URL.
(Personal Preference) I don't like "Web 2.0" style sites - Overly scripted, slow-loading, hard to navigate, can't-right-click-cause-it's-all-flash-or-something, post-late-2000s junk to me. I don't mean things should work like geocities or angelfire, but IMO FA is pretty much at its ideal web-design aesthetics for me. It has problems, but it works well for me. I never have any serious errors that ruin my enjoyment of the site.
Just my opinions :I
I share much the same opinions. I don't mind the existing layout, myself. A couple new features might be nice, but the need to do a full-on UI overhaul is a bit much in my mind. I keep thinking of the fallout from when Windows 8 was released with the reaction to the Start Screen and tablet behaviors. People demanded Microsoft quit playing catch-up and do something new and then got mad about it when the new OS didn't work the way they felt it should have worked. DeviantArt made a number of changes and bugs out for me a lot, with inconsistencies between each of the three browsers I've used it with (IE, Firefox, and Chrome). And what you explained are many of the issues I have with that site. I visit a few other sites that are rapid-load because there is almost no fluff in the code. FA still works moderately well on a touch screen even though its built more for a traditional computer platform.
I share much of your Personal Preference, as well. Web 2.0 is fine in a couple cases, but it doesn't have to be a bandwagon that everybody needs to jump on.
https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5418438/
Now I can seem smart! :D
Use PJAX :D
I agree partially, websites should be fast (Or maybe that's just my obsession with making stuff work as fast as possible x3).
Every time I make something (and don't finish it because of school), it is made to be as fast as possible.
Using Ruby on Rails, PJAX, serious caching, along with fast servers (*cough* Nginx *cough*), fast databases (meaning PostgreSQL) and so forth.
We have to use ASP.NET (probably the main reason so many sites are slow as fuck) at school, but it's just sooooo inefficient. It compiles all the server-side scripts into one MASSIVE DLL file. Thanks, Microsoft!
Also, JavaScript doesn't necessarily slow page loading down, that only happens if you overdo it XD
And Flash sucks. Shouldn't be used for websites anymore. Use JavaScript if needed, otherwise just HTML and CSS (you can do a LOT with just HTML 5 and CSS 3, just no interactive stuff, that's what you use JavaScript for, often with jQuery).
Kudos for nginx!
I'm just a fanboy, though XD
But, come on, gems! x3
Gotta love using Bundler as well. "gem 'carrierwave'" "bundle install" and suddenly... easy file uploads! xD
I have yet to properly use Nginx, though :c
Especially with Postgres, it should be pretty fast x3
Because we were already getting C#. LIKE WE CAN'T LEARN ANOTHER FUCKING LANGUAGE XD
There actually are quite a few issues that are a result of old code, things that aren't common practice and can be improved upon greatly. This gives us a lot of room to improve performance and reduce future issues by building a more efficient engine to run on the hardware.
And generally we can determine what is desirable based on feedback from the community, journals, posts, etc. that all contain suggestions. Not to mention when people post mockups or specific ideas for features they'd like to see. We can take all of this into account and discuss it internally and, at times, with the community through an update as well.
I'm looking through the comments and i'm getting a headache.
there's no saving FA.
With all the Drama with Zaush and the fact this will fail, FA fucked up.
Just saying.
If something happened and people have concerns they should be addressed instead of sweeping them under the rug while everyone is watching. It leads others to go to other sites and blogs to read things where the person in question looks a million times more hated.
Open source has always proven to be more effective. FA hides under its little blanky because everyone is there to hurt it. The project would go much faster if more worked on it and code had to be accepted in order to be implemented. Let's face it nothing got done last time because yak wouldn't let anyone touch the code and neer wouldn't kick his ass in gear to do anything. If there are holes then sooner or later someone is going to find it and fuck the site up, better off this being found early than later when someone finally cracks the site at a much later date after the supposed new implementation of the site. Lots of furs want to help the fA community...let them even if it's small specific add on projects that you simply pass variables to.
No one is going to go and make another fA, fA has the users, and all the data to remain at the top without fear of someone else taking the top spot
So instead of people going to blogs, dramaticas and scumbag places to find out what this zauch thing is. Be honest and address the issue. Be open with progress , let furs help with progress, this is a community afterall.
The number of admin removed comments is shameful and screams coverup. There have been coverups in the past with staff and we dont this shit happening again.
Is this going to die out like the other time fA wanted to rebuild?
Also it might be neat to add a separate stream on the main page (like how there's stories and music) dedicated to auctions, prioritizing what's listed first based on expiry. This will save people from the horrible auction spamming while still giving people more than adequate advertising. Possibly just make it so each user may only have one active auction at a time. Though I imagine this would likely require a good amount more code.
Good luck with the redesign, I have to say so far the screenshot provided looks a bit cluttered, but I like the idea of the conversation grouping and flagging options
https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5418438/
It might just be me but I enjoy the current look of FA
lol
But eh change is inevitable...but you know
let's just hope a change actually happens this time.
No but really, I love it. and I hope that I could test it out (béta) at some point.
that's when you get real criticism,
... damnit youtube ;~;
Instigate Hostile Takeover of Weasyl.
Business as usual.
Would it be possible that if you block someone, can the person who was blocked be automatically removed from your watchers list? Or maybe have it so they can't see your page at all like how some people put their pages as registered users only?
I know this has nothing to do with the site design, but it would be nice to have this put into place.
Also do you plan on doing anything else with the commission tab like making it to where if people would like to buy said commission type they can click the tab and they have options the artist can type in. As in full body price, half body so on and so forth and it can be sent to the artists notes that so and so wants this type of commission for this price. If that makes any sense . I think it would be a nifty idea and more organized.
We shall see I suppose.
Also, can't mention names but you know who working on this doesn't send a good message at all IMO.
Instead, a new, better multitool is being created, and the layout/design is only the wrapper. That way the trumpet won't come out randomly sounding like a cat in March.
All you had to do was just say "too diffucult, wait for update".
The point I was trying to make was that while it'd probably be possible to hack at least some of the requested features onto the current code, it's hardly practical, and would likely make the site even more fragile than it already is. And that it's the backend changes, not the layout/design, that is really the important thing about Phoenix.
A new codebase probably means the graphical elements to some extent need to be recreated anyway, so if there's ever going to be a site redesign, doing both at the same time makes sense and saves man hours.
To take 8 years to do a proper face lift on a site with so many web developers, artists and creative types at your finger tips, is just plain tragic. :/
I don't see why you could have saved yourselves issues with this and NOT MENTION HIM.
Could have been a "secret helper".
There is no need to hide the comments about it him when the whole fandom knows about his mess-up and the mess-up from the head admins. Stop hiding comments so we can see what people and ourselves really think.
I mean, what are you really hiding when everyone knows?
Stop running and grow up.
Comments to this journal get handled at shorter notice because it's a site newspost so obviously there's admins keeping an eye on it.
So this news thread is much more important and worthy of instabanning 'troublesome' users than the piles of trouble tickets describing cases of hateful transphobia (etc)?
Or the tickets where aggressive people are still creating multiple accounts to get around blocks and continue to spam traumatized users?
Or what about hundreds of cases of art theft where users continue to illegally make money of artists' hard work?
This behavior seems incredibly unprofessional, which is odd since admins have emphasized professionalism as being important several times throughout these comments.
Now imagine how many (justified!) angry comments there would be about how people's questions go unanswered and suggestions go ignored. I've tried to address the issues that I have answers for because I feel users deserve answers and communication, and I'm honestly taken aback by how much hostility I get met with for acknowledging that the problem exists and that we're working on it, but it's not something that can be done in a day or even a week. There is no need to be confrontational or accusatory. We already feel bad about the TT situation.
I can't think of any site or company that does not keep a close eye on their news channels, regardless of whatever backlog they may have in other areas. Allowing blatant violations to go on in what is possibly the most read comment thread on the site just because there are unaddressed complaints elsewhere due to there only being so much time in a day would hardly be more professional, and would only lead to more violations in the future as people get the impression that such behavior is acceptable. The only "solution" to the problem if your suggested 100% strict first-in-first-out order was implemented would be for the TT backlog to not exist, and it's not like we can just magic it away.
But the reason we're so upset about this is because an admin (or admins?) who has the capability to answer and solve the problems in trouble tickets is working on something completely irrelevant rather than fixing the huge already existing problems.
At this point, most of the userbase is upset because there's this HUGE, GLARING problem that needs to be taken care of (the large amount of unanswered trouble tickets), and it seems like that issue is being swept aside and ignored because the staff is working on a different project (FA's face-lift, which is largely viewed as cosmetic and non-pressing).
I believe there's some miscommunication going on here. Aside from keeping a cursory eye on comments to this newspost (which is part of our job), the site admins handling tickets are a completely different team than the people doing the re-coding. I know there's trust issues making it hard to trust anything site staff says about what's going on behind the scenes, so I don't entirely fault users for thinking it's lip service when I say we are working hard on trying to reduce the ticket backlog, it's just pretty discouraging to be met with hostility when trying to be helpful, yanno?
I do want to stress that the project announced is a complete rewrite, of which the redesign/facelift is only a small portion; it just happens to be the portion most visible to users at an early stage. Tacking on many of the frequently-requested features to the current codebase would be a fragile nightmare, so unfortunately a rewrite is more or less necessary for any major features to be added.
1- lie to them constantly
2- ban everyone who speaks out
3- break all promises
4- prioritise people to show the standard user base how unimportant they are
5- Never be transparent
6- Cover up all admin issues and rehire multiple staff which the users have concerns about
7- Modify the rules to suit yourself
8- always blame hardware
Anyway...Thank you. really. Finally <3
I wish you good luck with this project.
We all know it's not easy.
Second, will this be open-source or closed like the current one?
Other than that, nice to see this post. An apt name too..
There better be folders and a way we can still do reminders etc.
Transparency and trust indeed.
Having him there is only going to deepen an already sore divide in the community of Fa, and considering past (and pending) problems, it's already become a festering wound for many.
Worse, the recent actions administration have taken against other individuals who have voiced a negative opinion has only confirmed that there is not only an incredible rift between the admins and the community at large, but that ulterior motives may very well play a part.
And by the gods, if this message gets hidden, you are only digging the wound deeper.
The site staff obviously don't care about their userbase. They knew this decision would cause drama and make people uncomfortable and angry yet they decided to do it anyway. I don't feel comfortable knowing that this is how these issues are dealt with, by totally ignoring them and pretending they don't exist.
I don't even care about the rumors floating around Zaush, and whether or not they're true. Even before such things arose, he made it pretty clear he's full of himself as much as one can be, and has a disgusting attitude. Hell didn't someone recently post on FAF that he was causing issues among the other coders with his ego?
Why he was even hired, I haven't the slightest clue (Oh, I mean besides the fact that he's popular. Surely that can't be it right? RIGHT?). Someone with so much drama and speculation floating around them should have never been hired. Ever. Even if those rumors are false. Look how much shit it's kicking up.
Get rid of him. End or story. I've seen FA's community deal with a lot as far as its staff goes, but it seems like people are drawing a line at him.
"That's nice, dear."
Nonetheless, honored
It's very nice to see some work being done in this area, though, and I'm sure it'll turn out fine, so long as you don't develop according to the Youtube design motto of "Make everything worse until people quit". Just, ah.. Make sure you get CSS support for at least the journal and profile sections, if not the whole user page, and include alternate color schemes. :)
As a suggestion, I would say add a page where people interested in commissioning artists put up posts describing what they want, and their price range. /Similar/ to what SoFurry has, not sure if that would sabotage the ad system, but it could help commissioners find artists easier. As another suggestion, I would say keep the old site design for people that aren't ready to switch, ao that they can switch in-between pheonix and the old site (could be a good option if the site goes into beta and is full of bugs).
If you want us to take this project seriously, the very first step should be cleaning house. The community has next to no faith in the entire FA staff, dragoneer included. The reason Weasyl is so much more attractive is not merely a more functional website (though that does help--and bear in mind that it is functionality and not attractiveness that is our first interest), but rather that the administration showed a clear interest in the users' desires and opinions. While there have been disgruntled users--and there always will be--there have not been the sweeping administration scandals, personality conflicts, and draconian policy changes that have plagued FA for years.
The reason people are so skeptical about this design is that it's been years since anyone at FA seemed to give a legitimate shit about the users. Actually completing this design in reasonable time, with an ear out for desired features (pro tip: take a damn survey) will help towards fixing some of the trust issues your staff has, but just bear in mind as you go forward, and I'm glad your PR guy is acknowledging this with grace, that not a lot of people are going to hold their breath.
This may be your last chance to avoid going the way of VCL. I wish you good luck.
I want to believe! fA is like my home, I want good things happening to it.
It's very busy and cluttered and really complicated IMO. IDK I don't have high hopes at all for this change.
Though a lot of other people have already voiced my opinion on changes.. (folders/black lists/looks etc.) Not holding my breath, but I'm not going anywhere.
Good luck is all I can say to this.
But the new look is very nice anyways! Just pleaseplease keep the default colour theme too and not just the dark one, the dark one gives headaches. ;o;
At least 5 years ago was announced this ui and nothing was done, now they show a new.
I feel like the only reason people tollerate FA's massive short comings and outdatedness is because this is where the money and customer base resides
just saying /runs/
I hope there will be an easier way to deleted and maybe categories
for our galleries? It may prevent people from making 5 accounts!
So we can have folders in our own galleries for different work.
Though I do agree with anything bad and good happens and only so much can be done, though
Also, am i the only one that couldn't care less about a folder system? Even when i was on deviantart, i didn't use the folders there :O
Now, what i would rEALLY like to see in the future is more customization! And of course, a site that's more streamlined in general.
I'm glad you guys are building it from the ground up, but given your history of not doing good on ya'lls promises, you gotta understand why i, as well as many others, are very skeptical about this update.
Like many others have said before me, i will believe it when i see it.
Needs better coding, people are screaming! Hands out false promises of new layouts nonstop.
Trouble tickets need to be answered! Has so many not even looked at.
WE NEED FOLDERS! guess how many years later, oh look! No folders.
Same stuff yada yada~ you know where I'm going with this.
one day too many people are gonna get tired of being ignored and take it somewhere else where the site actually listen to their community.
At least that's the way I see it u__u
Answer:
1.) Be happy if the page works.
Sometimes the side for a long time does not work. :(

2.) Be happy if they sometimes respond.
Sometimes they ignore someone completely.

Answer:
3.) Gallery folder you get here.: ( www.sofurry.com , www.deviantart.com ,or the new www.weasyl.com , etc.... )
But not with furaffinity.net :(
Gallery folders are just a dream here.
Promised like many other things about 5 years ago!!!
Or was it 6 years ago?
The best thing is to give up all hope.

Answer:
4.) I'm already tired. :(
That's why I see everything anyway what is written as a joke.
I'm only here because so many others are here.
Not because I trust FF.
How will Project Phoenix publish updates? via Site News? Twitter, Facebook?
the design is a little cluttered and messy, but its just a wip i'm guessing; can't wait to see how its gonna come out :>
I have hope for this to actually go through, but then again I don't know.
The reason I think it may not happen is because of the things I have heard from other multimedia site s.
I really like the new layout design. It looks less busy & cluttered.
I really hope you guys pull through with this one.
But may I ask these things..
- Estimated time may be for this layout?
- Folders?
It would be great to see this cause of how some people make other accounts to run their commissions and they have to constantly log in and out of accounts just to maintain balance.
- Account delete option?
Kinda like on Facebook, Twitter and suck
There are so many accounts that could be deleted when users leave for good and such.
Not to mention for new users to claim a name that could want.
I'm looking forward to this
I have enought idiots I'd loveto remove permintly
Why having someone with a bad reputation working for the site? This has obviously caused a very negative reaction by 98% of the community and yet they're all being dismissed.
It's sad and I'm afraid I'll be taking my leave from FA if this is how the site treats their users. Hell, this has gotten so much negative feedback that it's a shock that Zaush isn't already out.
But I guess FA only cares about the admins and doesn't give a crap about the common user.
Heck, when you have a lead admin with no experience to train future admins....what do you think that reflects of the whole staff?
It's da trooth.
Sorry, not really objecting; I just had to say that. ^_^
I really don't know any of the people involved, but it would be good to see what is probably the most used furry art site move its user interface (and hopefully feature set) from the 1990s into the 2010s. With any luck, before it's the 2020s. :)
Wow.
In words you people will understand: he's designing the outward shape of the donut, but won't be touching the cream filling.
idk bff jill
2) It doesn't apply to privately owned websites such as FA anyway. You surrendered your 'rights' when you agreed to the terms of service and the code of conduct for this website when you first registered here, and the admins can ban you for whatever reason they deem plausible.
Please actually know what you are talking about before you preach it. :|
...

...
or do you?
or is it?
that's not the nice way to play pretend.
"we want to increase transparency and trust for all aspects of the administration"
Hires a specific person, hides all comments about specific person
SO FAR A GREAT START GUYS
*when it is convenient for the staff
Good to know, thanks for that bit of information.
If you have an issue with Zaush, I would recommend that you bring it up to dragoneer directly as opposed to in a public forum. There are appropriate ways to express your concerns and inflammatory comments are most certainly not the way to do so. I do hope, however, that you'll be willing to give him a chance to show that he is capable as a developer, so far I've found many of the rumors about him to be patently untrue and he's a pretty pleasant person to work with.
Also Dragoneer has already publicly made it clear he does not care whatsoever about the concerns that myself and many others are so upset about in hiring someone like him. If I had any inkling he cared a minute amount about these concerns so much of the user base had, and thought he would actually do anything about it, I would have absolutely gone to him first and privately. Unfortunately, seeing how he deals with people on these private matters, he's made it very clear he is not a remotely safe or trustworthy person to go to on matters with this level of seriousness, which as a user who loves this site, really hurts to say.
(Just my opinion on that...)
The very top portion of the note has been altered by whoever hacked into D's or F's account, because obviously that's not how an old note looks at the top. My only reasoning about the very top portion of the note is that it was altered by the hacker so people could understand it better or that it is completely fake. As for the issue F talks about in the note to D it should've been reported to the local authorities instead of a website owner. It bothers me that some people believe that a website Moderator(s) are supposed to moderate everything that happens off site. Ridiculous! If the issues had happened on-site I could understand a reason as to why Z would have to be removed according to the site's guidelines or rules and it surprises me that the hacker didn't post anything else other than just this particular private conversation between F and D.
I can't say the note is true or not or what happened between all the individuals involved actually happened or didn't happen but it's a bit suspicious to me though. Suspicious in the sense that quite a few people have had this type of problem with said person.
To be honest, because of this rumor it was a bad idea to announce him as one of the site developers because of the obvious given situation so it would've been better had he not been announced as one of the site's developer's. I mean, clearly an Administrator is hiding something a lot of people are already aware of....so why not just not make people aware that he is now one of the site developer's? It still surprises me to this day, still, that some people believe the internet is a private place to post your personal information.
Anyway, those are just my thoughts on that particular rumor. Not bashing anyone but just intrigued as well as confuzzled is all.
Actually no. Someone had a real life encounter with someone and something went wrong. Like I said, it's not your place to decide that it "didn't happen". What is presented to the admin team is "hey this guy did xxx to me" and instead of helping the victim you cover their rapists' ass and deny their experience.
If you say you don't know whether or not it happened, why are you addressing the issue as if it *didn't* happen instead of just saying "What happened, happened. We send our condolences, but this has nothing to do with his position as a coder." or something like that and be done with it?
inflammatory comments
What's inflammatory is you denying the victims experience based on "no proof" when if you don't know, you don't know.
All for the sake of some obsessed weirdo who won't leave me alone. I don't file tickets anymore, it's about as effective as telling the police about cyberstalking in a small town.
From my point of view, that tells me the police didn't view this as an actual stalking case to act on, to which I don't see why FA should go beyond the call of the police.
I had an UNKNOWN person emailing me in college telling me information I hadn't told anyone and things they could only have known by physically stalking me. The person threatened to KILL me repeatedly. Guess what the cops did? "Oh, he's probably just RP'ing or something. Call us if he ever shows up and hurts you." Because they did nothing, I had to go around changing locks and passwords and leave a site I WORKED AT because they were able to see private information there. I've changed emails and phones and where I live. I had friends stay with me constantly because I was afraid for my life if I had to go out of my dorm, even to class. Saying "if this were real, the police would have done something" is total BULL SHIT.
I was raped when I was TWO YEARS OLD. The police showed up, asked no questions, took me away from my parents, and never bothered to take down names or prosecute anyone. All they did was "clean up the mess." They took me to a foster home and my mother (who was in a coma) to the hospital. I wasn't even told my mother was alive. I thought she had died. Anyone with the misconception of "if someone did something wrong, they'll get arrested" has clearly never had to deal with the police or being the victim of a crime.
I was raped again as a teen on vacation with my parents. We went to the police as soon as we got home. They said they couldn't do anything because we didn't go to them "right away" and that even though I knew the name and location of my violent rapist, there was nothing I could do. They said even IF I could come up with undeniable proof, I would still have to go BACK there (a good 600 miles away) to point him out and again for the trial which would be at least SIX MONTHS LATER during which time he would be free and know where I was and that I had accused him.
Any website that lets people stalk you and threaten you and doesn't do anything is just as at fault. There's a reason every major website EVER has a "block" button and private pages so that you can keep people from seeing your account. I know for a fact that blocking people on this site does NOTHING. They can still see your page, get your journals and posts, and keep tabs on you. It only stops them from SPEAKING to you, which they can still easily do by making a new account. This is an adult, sexual website, and the protections (or lack thereof) for users is laughable. Putting someone who was publicly accused of rape on the staff has just been the final straw for many users who feel staying on this website is not in their best interests.
You are not going to personally convince me that hiding comments about this is a good move so I'd save the PR response for someone else if I were you. I'm bowing out now.
Yeah sure just let me go open up a trouble ticket to be answered next year.
Really though, FA doesn't need a new look it needs more staff dedicated to going through TTs and helping the users out.
It would also really help your public image here if you stop denying the events even took place. That's really disrespectful to the victim to have the admins of a site publicly reject what happened to you. It isn't YOUR PLACE TO DECIDE whether or not a rape happened.
If you want people to stop freaking out, stop acting like "it never happened because there was no proof", all you're doing is pissing people off and hurting others that have had similar situations happen to them, and making them feel unsafe as FUCK because their rapists essentially get away with it, even more so when people get banned for bringing it up. *COUGHS* I'm speaking for myself here as well.
Also don't ban me over this comment. Just putting in my two cents as I feel personally affected by this thing(specifically the way the rape issue is being handled by admins).
All that should have been said on the issue from staff is “We know what he did and there is no excuse for it, but we need him for our team.”.
That being said you are of course free to leave the site based on your own personal moral objections and beliefs but I do urge caution tossing around this sort of accusation publicly. If the alleged victim persued legal action and the courts/police found no proof then that is it. We live under a system innocent until proven guilty and considering how long ago this incident took place and he still isnt behind bars or on a sex offender registry then as much as you clearly disagree he is innocent and it is not your place to label him as such in some sorta attempt to persuade people from not employing him in any manner.
Even if he were a convicted rapist it still is not your place to dictate his work qualifications and who employs him in some fashion. We don't execute convicted rapists and I would rather my tax dollars not go toward paying for their living expenses. Though in this case I don't know if compensation is being provided. Yes I have been a victim of it as well. Has it traumatized me for life? Nope. That's the power behind a rape. I deny him that and live my life just fine. In Zaush's situation to me it sounds like he just kept asking and asking until the woman said yes. That may be a rape in your eyes but in the eyes of the law that is at best sexual harassment, not rape. Big difference there. But clearly the label of sexual harasser is not as potent as rapist.
Anywho the topic od the journal is about changes to FA and a banner update. Bringing up Zaush and old history surrounding him not at all related to the subject has no place and is just more unneeded drama. You know quite well the staff's position on the accusations and your words or even mine will make zero impact on their choice. FA administration is also notorious for other bad management and the usual threats of people leaving ensue. It is an old and tired argument and its time to move on or just leave already.
Also it was only made public when the note leaks happened a few years back. What happened is the victim went to Dragoneer in private about the guy and was basically told to keep it to themself.
Going to the cops does nothing. I have done it 2/3 times I was raped or sexually assaulted and they took my info but never did anything. Ever. So don't even try to say that's a solution lol.
And no that last bit doesn't happen a lot and it is SAD AS FUCK that legit rapes have people trying to say it wasn't because of stereotypes around women or whatever. Fucking retarded shit.
Go read. Vivisector has the notes that started this.
"You disagree. You do not like him. FINE. We get that. I even bolded that for you since that seems to be your thing.
If you can not accept [redacted] as an admin or mod then I'm sorry. He's not going anywhere."
Such as when his staff was attacking Sonic artists, for no good reason. That went on for months, with no repercussions for those who were just generally harassing folks, and changed his rules and regulations about it on a whim.
There's no reason for us to actively trust Dragoneer solely. :\
Because of this, I wanted to bring this up to you directly, and this seemed to be the most appropriate string of thoughts to butt in on since it has to do with the topic at hand (no offense meant to others involved in this particular conversation, I promise!).
First, a bit of background. I'm sorry if this seems a bit rambly, but it's late and I got to see all this after coming home from a long day at work.
I've been a member of FA for, some would argue, way too long now, about a year after they were first up and running. I've also had a helluva love/hate relationship with the community, its members (including a stalker ex boyfriend who I had to note (through FA, none-the-less!) a cease and desist to), the admin (though nothing to really single me out, thank the gods), the rules- the site as a whole, but I'm still here, kicking and screaming and praising and loving and cursing and ranting and all that fun stuff. As much as I've cursed it, it's still the online equivalent of a home base to me. I think the only site I use more is Google. Considering how much time I spend online, that's saying a lot!
I also have a bit of background in the issue that seems to be plaguing one of the members of your team. It sounds weird, but through various experiences my life, I can at least have an idea of where both sides are supposedly. On the one side, I've been there, in a similar situation, even accused of not being in that situation and feeling the pain and fear and humiliation that comes from it. The absolute helplessness as the only proof you have is your own words, and all you can do is watch as the other goes along with their life as if nothing had happened, scared to speak out less you're called a liar or worse.
However, I've known people who have been on the other side, great, outstanding individuals, falsely accused, and all they can do is watch as their reputation... in some cases their entire world, is ripped apart and all they can do is watch, because to do anything else in any direction, even to defend themselves, just adds fuel to the flame. In some ways, it can be just as traumatic, just as painful. Give just as much a sense of helplessness as you watch those you called friends, even family, jump on the bandwagon for no other reason and with no other proof than what one individual said, and watch as others you hardly know cry wolf, just to get the attention as well.
Neither side is right, and what's worse is that NO ONE can know what had happened with proper evidence but those who had been directly involved, no matter what anyone else says. Because of this, the matter should have been handled far more carefully than it has been, by EVERYONE involved.
One thing cannot and should not be ignored though. Facts are facts, and the fact is this issue is now very, very public on this forum. The fact is for every fire that was put out, the very act of putting it out created five more. The fact is, the white elephant has become so smothering in the room that it needs to be addressed. The fact is, THIS HAS BECOME A MAJOR ISSUE AND CONCERN for a huge number of members on this site, regardless of what side they stand on... even those who are struggling to remain carefully mutual. Hell, I had decided just last night to go at least a full week without delving into internet drama only to come home to a dozen journals of artists leaving links to their weasyl and inkbunny and such because they're leaving DA- and those were just the one on the first page of my updates. I didn't bother going any further into the journals before I realized this was something I needed to check out for myself.
It's true, you guys can continue on your merry way acting as if this huge nasty festering white elephant isn't there, but that won't be enough to keep the rest of us from seeing it. Even those of us who never wanted to see it to begin with. Trying to throw a lampshade over it has only drawn that much more attention to its rotting smell. So like it or not, no matter what side you or anyone else on this damned site stand on, will it ever be addressed? Or must FA lose half its members first?
~A very concerned member who just wants one freakin' weak without so much drama, damn it >.<
Kthnxbai!
It's a prototype.
PROTOTYPE! >:U
It's not finished. I personally like it. Sure it looks like the lying SoFurry and the segregationist Inkbunny, but I like that look. It's like SoFurry and Inkbunny, without all the SoFurry and Inkbunny. And yes, that's a good thing cause both those sites have some serious moral issues, compared to FA's slight moral issues and repairable technical issues.
What this is is in fact, a MOCKUP. mockups aren't functional.

Good luck and I hope to see it in action sometime soon!!
I'm preeeeeeeetyy sure this is it.
But I really hope you don't overload the site with code and images (like.. some particular devious site for example). I really like fA for being simple, working and not using much bandwidth while browsing on - the only 'big' thing on a submission page to load the submission itself!
(FYI, I'm surfing with a connection of 384kbit/s)
I'll believe it when I see it.
I don't plan on critiquing much. I said my piece in here once already, and that's all. Time to kick back in my lawn chair and watch the fireworks. It could honestly go either way, but my bet is nowhere.
If this was the first announcement of a site change, then I'd take a step back and agree. It's not. I've been a member quite a while and been given these promises and announcements too many times now to even bother getting my hopes up.
Not to mention, this project hasn't taken into account any of the user suggestions that have been given to staff numerous times. And it's not like they're huge, complicated requests either.
But, as I said. I'm just going to sit back and see what happens, as you suggested.
<Hides comments about the site's numorous failures, faulty staff, and site issues>
Your asking for a lot pal.
<.<
I would kiss you for this comment alone if I could. THANK YOU.
Just hope to actually get a reply.
FA staff hiding comments that criticize Zaush's skills, or past atrocities despite the claim to "increase transparency and trust for all aspects of the administration". This I must say, is absolutely disgusting.
Some guy going through saying if there's an issue, bring it up with Dragoneer who simply doesn't care and with the awful experiences held by users in waiting for trouble tickets.
Holy tits, how much more incompetent can a collection of staff get with such history.
Comments are not being hidden as they question anyone's skills, but are being hidden when they are inappropriate or cross the line into the territory of harassment or personal attacks.
And yes, concerns about members of staff should be brought up with dragoneer. Personal attacks or inflammatory comments in a public forum do nothing positive, they merely agitate the situation further.
And if people were to post notes or something in private, it can be easily hidden and removed, compared to a pubic area where it has a chance of being seen.
That's how I see it when people post something like that publicly on FA because history has shown that posts that admins to not like are removed and accounts suspended.

As for the design, well, FA staff are notorious for promising a site redesign, and then not delivering. There's a lot of wank over that.
much appreciated.
Moderators: "that's inappropriate and harassing commentary"
Cheers!
That Web Design class is helping me learn so much this year ^^
I'm not a big fan of change >.>

Errm... Sorry about the caps. I just want to share how excited I am for this. Love the new design being developed, and I can't wait to see it come to life. Honestly, it actually reminds me of Bing. There just one problem: What's with the foreign language in the full-size image? What the heck?
Cause my notes... are quite a mess. http://prntscr.com/2jz56y
Please, keep digging yourself into a hole. The faster this place crashes and burns the faster people will realise that FA isn't the only place they can go. FA isn't the entire community despite what people delude themselves into thinking.
gg, mods.
At this point it I don't even care that much if the guy did or did not do the thing, but having him around definitely aint helping you one bit. Wave goodbye to yet more of your users as they once again flock to Weasyl.
Weasyl must be loving you guys right about now.
THEY JUST KEEP COMING, MAN
WHAT WERE THE MODS THINKING?
Sometimes when people are sick tired of bullshit?
They just make themselves getting used to new sites or using other ones.
There are a few choices.
And honestly... I think Racheart is right.
Weasyl and probably other sites are going to be happy with this whole situation...
.__.
I am now taking bets for how long it takes before the administration removes this comment. Do I here 15 minutes? 15 minutes? How about 30? 30 minutes? Half an hour! Half an hour! Do we wanna go for 45? 45 minutes? 45 minutes?
But it won't surprise me xD
Either ways... People are way too ''into'' FA... They might leave now...
But most won't leave or come back eventually. They will just start using other sites if FA does shit again or what so ever really.
But if people really get annoyed by it, they will probably force themselves to leave...
I know some cases of this already for example :/
Needless to say, they won't be coming back. I somehow doubt they're the only one.
... and a few "I'm not leaving" journals.
Like when someones name is added to the list, not only can they not communicate with you but also cannot see a thing on your profile?
A block should mean they cannot access anything.
The blocking features solve nothing.
is this the website being completely turned into something else, or?
Its a pretty good filter for chrome users. I know there is one for firefox but I don't know the url.
Bravo guys.
If you can improve FA by 1% you would've exceeded all previous update attempts.
Take small steps at first, aim for the "low hanging fruit".
Otherwise I'm afraid the development might get bogged down by the huge mess that FA is on the inside.
Because I do.
I do remember the five or so times they promised it and never followed through >.>
VCL looks better than this. And VCL crashed years ago.
Honestly though, I like this old layout. Yeah, things need some serious help, like the tagging filter and the ability to *gasp* organize shiz within galleries and faves, but it's a whole lot easier on this ol'e laptop and even the new folks I dragged on were able to easily navigate even when they fail at interwebz.
Then again, I remember building my own site on geocities using nothing but html coding, so maybe I'm just an old fart at heart *shrugs*
try looking on tumblr because a lot of the evidence has been getting posted on there.
Yes.
Thank you.
and end up with a lot of people banned
I'm still waiting for a reply, by the way.
Then you should have gone to the police with it. What is wrong with you, why are you not reporting rape?
If it has been reported, then as a serious crime, it would have been investigated, especially with the evidence provide. If the evidence or circumstances weren't up to snuff, that tells me there are allegations and nothing to prove one or another.
In turn, that means there isn't empirical evidence and I would have to take that as demonwaffle is a liar that is propagating allegations that have no actual standing trying to misrepresent it as if definitely happened and there was definite empirical evidence.
If the evidence was deleted, how did you get a copy that you could actually verify was the case yourself and how did it get deleted after /you/ acquired the evidence?
> the victim in question was pressured into not talkting
Or perhaps it wasn't the case the 'victim' was making.
> How about you start defending victims instead of the accused?
Believe it or not, if there are false allegations, there are victims there too. As I have no information to prove one way or the other, I am not willing to make the automatic assumption it happened.
You evaded my question, "If the evidence was deleted, how did you get a copy that you could actually verify was the case yourself and how did it get deleted after /you/ acquired the evidence?". From this, I begin to suspect never had the evidence to begin with and instead just got on some band wagon without verifying any of the details yourself. If this is the case, you are displaying inappropriate behaviour by slandering someone you don't even know actually did it.
> wow grade A rape apologist right here
If we look at this closer, you have called me a "rape apologist", because I wanted to see some form of due process before coming to a conclusion, this would only reinforce the point of view that you are someone that makes assumptions without proper verification of details.
> wow grade A rape apologist right here
You have made a statement that is libellous, slanderous and defamation against me, for the purpose of what appears to be an ad hominem attack, this sort of behaviour is disgusting.
But I think their points are:
1) Rapes in general are very hard to prove, especially when there's little or no DNA evidence to go on after a certain time period.
2) Most people are traumatized by rape and do not want to come forward or tell anybody about it, because they will very likely not be believed anyway, making it very easy to get away with rape.
3) If somebody close to you told you that a person assaulted them, you would not ask them for evidence. Ie. asking your sister to open up her legs so you could see if her hymen was broken. I don't know what other kind of empirical evidence you could manage to achieve aside from getting the rape video-taped, which is almost never going to happen.
Therefore, even an innocent person with this kind of reputation should probably not be involved in important administration for a site this massive, especially so soon after the accusations have come to light in a public arena. This seems like an understandable fear.
(Also, slander is spoken only.)
I didn't ask to see it.
> 1) Rapes in general are very hard to prove, especially when there's little or no DNA evidence to go on after a certain time period.
I don't see why the crime is hard to prove means that there should be any sort of automatic assumption he did it. I could say you stole 100USD from me and now I am going to be kicked out on the street because I can't afford to pay my landlord. The crime would be hard to prove happened and it would be tragic if it was true.
> 2) Most people are traumatized by rape and do not want to come forward or tell anybody about it, because they will very likely not be believed anyway, making it very easy to get away with rape.
This doesn't make it okay to assume he is a rapist and call him one.
> 3) If somebody close to you told you that a person assaulted them, you would not ask them for evidence.
Completely wrong, I definitely would in an attempt to gather evidence. Also, there are individuals close to me I wouldn't trust on that sort of comment (previous experience).
> I don't know what other kind of empirical evidence you could manage to achieve aside from getting the rape video-taped, which is almost never going to happen.
It's not my claim there was sufficient empirical evidence to call someone a rapist. I genuinely do not believe you should be calling someone a rapist when you don't /know/ for a fact it happened. An opinion on questionable subject matter is not knowing.
My problem here is that people are blatantly lying, they're not saying it's an opinion, they are stating these things are facts and if they are, I find it a travesty they aren't reporting it to the proper authorities. If the authorities aren't acting, it's because likely because there really isn't much evidence to say it is the case.
I believe further investigation in the matter would be necessary by the law if this is an issue, not some vigilantism in the form of libel. People could be ruining a potentially completely innocent (when it comes to rape) person's reputation.
I'm not happy to see anyone get away with it, but I am also not happy with innocents being punished for something they didn't do, especially through the use of vigilantism. Let's make sure it actually happened and it was the person in question before acting.
Also, I don't think it makes sense to call people liars when you refuse to look at evidence, but w/e. These are legitimate safety complaints for sure and that's all you have to know.
That's how people get away with a lot of crimes, not only rape. I do not want people who rape to get away with it, but I don't want someone who is innocent to get hurt either.
Considering the seriousness of the allegations, I would actually expect people to take this a lot more seriously by approaching this more analytically than emotionally, since the implications of the answer are drastic.
> I think if somebody wanted to ruin a person's reputation, too, there's easier ways to do it (he/she is lazy, does not follow up with comissions.)
I have never seen someone who doesn't follow up with commissions have a massive effect like this. This seems far more effective. Also, by riling up people emotionally, you get people who assume it is the case, spreading it for you. I think 'rape' is one of the easier methods to motivate people to do this.
> Also, I don't think it makes sense to call people liars when you refuse to look at evidence
If you really want to know. I have looked, I couldn't find the flawless evidence. The best I could find was something that I think would prompt an investigation, but I don't believe it is anyway near enough to say it definitely happened. I could also visualize scenarios outside of rape where this would happen. None of the 'evidence' quelled those alternative scenarios. I believe that this is something for professionals in the field to handle, not furry vigilantes who clearly don't have concrete evidence.
I genuinely expect if someone has this undeniable proof that they report it to the authorities, to do otherwise is a complete travesty.
In either case, my opinion is that people are either the people here making such claims are lying or committing travesties, I am not convinced the latter is happening based on the responses however.
> These are legitimate safety complaints for sure and that's all you have to know.
I can see a legitimate complaint at worst being "suspected rapist", not "rapist". All I need to know is apparently not to trust people's word here. As for safety, I learned that avoiding Weasyl is probably a safer option, considering the responses I have received that were libellous towards me from people "moving" to Weasyl.
To elaborate further, I am likely more safe here with the 'rapist' than on Weasyl - Where I expect these people that have "moved" there would produce all sorts of bad information about me and spread it around.
Making big steps (a new site), without taking the small ones first (getting a good administration). This place is a joke.
1. I'd drop the Prev/Next page buttons for notes; do dynamic loading of further content either through a link or bottom-of-the-list detection (like Google+). (Bonus point: it would make people see the ads for a moment as the next section loads)
2. Please add Notes folders.
3. I would add a "quick preview" rollout under the notes titles. Maybe one that shows the first few lines of the last reply?
4. I'm all for whitespace in order to make a design more balanced, but it feels that there's great wastage on the 4th section from the top (where it says "1600 notes 6 unread 10 in thrash"). Wouldn't it be easier and more user-friendly to have those numbers on the icons on the left-hand side toolbar (kind of like filters; keep the "inbox" icon (the one with the 145 on it), add an icon for new notes with the same number subtext, add the subtext to the thrash)? This would gain additional screen space dedicated to content, not UI.
Not only that, but it would probably make navigating across the notes more easily as there would be a possibility for basic filtering right off the bat.
5. I'd also make the "New" note button an icon on the left-hand toolbar instead of another icon on the right-hand side, stuck with the currently being read thread.
Just my 0.045 cents (we don't have pennies in canuckistan anymore... And the exchange rate sucks for me ATM).
1. Elitism
2. They don't care what the community thinks.
There is also the possibility that the community may be filled with useless/bad suggestions, but I don't know if I can find any evidence to completely support that. Of course, I have also failed to take into account a useful way to get community feedback without the administration being so overloaded (cause we know they're just so busy), other than a voting system. However, that voting system could have very bad ideas on it.
One that, without Dragoneer picking the reigns up, would not exist.
However, I feel that given that it's privately held and thus the current staff get ultimate say in something, they should REALLY be more careful at picking their technical and personal staff. The reactions to this staff choice (as well as one a couple of months back), shows that there is absolutely no care taken in regards to the community here, when the care and well being of such a thing should be the #1 priority.
Because without the community, this site will be nothing...
As I said, though, I think they would be better off looking at how to better serve their community...in regards to site design, who is on staff, how they treat others and how well written rules are...but they don't see to give a damn to a lot of that. So...*shrugs* XD
Being the capitalist scumbag I am, I think an open market and a little competition is a good thing :)
Sorry FA. -1 internet.
Incompetent is the appropriate word.
Come to think of it, I think that's when I began becoming jaded toward this site... or at least trying to? Does that make sense?
i like the current look
I'm hoping you guys can incorporate that design into the user pages. I love literally everything about it, from the sleek graphics, to the size panel filled with submissions, to the center zoomed in most recent submission, to the same position for profile comments, and ESPECIALLY the profile info layout/forms. (And definitely that character info thing. Please make that a thing yes.)
And that journal at the bottom. That makes me happy to see journals being there instead of on the side. Every site prefers them on the side, but on the bottom makes more sense to me, since you can focus more on the submissions, and less on the journal content of a page.
For other features, I figure I should add a few things even though I know others have actively sought to tell you, so I'm sure I'm just repeating them. (But hey! Even if they are repeats, it's nice to have a headcount, right? )
-Favorites and Gallery folders. (It'd be great to organize favorites by commissions and such especially. I'd love to have a quick click resource for linking people to art done for me by others, without having to fuck the site with a bigger overload by making a side account, or multiple side accounts just to repost things into "Organized" galleries.)
-I'd love to see notes not breaking when there's multiple quotes. Quotes within quotes seems pretty damn doable. LOL
-I hope you guys will be keeping a "Classic" styled template around for people who don't like the update. I know some people who don't care what the new one looks like, they just want to keep what they're used to. XD
-I'd like to see a friendslist feature, so you can add a "Show only to friends" thing for submissions of any kind. /ESPECIALLY/ Journals. It'd be really nice to have the public "Heres my professional journal" and the private "THIS IS MY RANT ABOUT MY FUCKING BOYFRIEND I HATE HIS GUTS UGHGHGHGHGGHGHGHGHGH AND MY DOG RAN AWAY AND MY TRUCK BROKE DOWN AND MY GEETAR LOST A STRING" so that customers don't need to deal with your crap. :| (EHEM.)
-I know it's a stretch, but it'd be nice if you could delete accounts, so people who want to open up their account name can do so for others. owo
-I like the idea of having a "Character Sheets/Profile/Info" section, like the way you'd set up a character profile of multiple characters, where you can store all of the artwork of that character and a LOT of their information just by filling out a form. :D I've seen a couple other sites implement this, and I find it's REALLY useful, and you can get to know a lot about other people's cool OCs by reading it. owo Not to mention it's awesome to have a place to store art of them so if anyone needs references it's all right there, along with their character information. (Hell if you wanted to go all full OC pornsite on it you can make a mini F-list there as well. LOL )
Hopefully you guys take the time to consider these additions to the site features! I've found I personally really enjoy them on other websites, and it'd be nice to have them here also.

Here's a little treat!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vWT5ThmQyM
I mean really, bacon makes everything better, even furaffinity!
If I might be so bold as to mention, I'm hoping for four things in the new version:
- search by user name as well as submission and journal tags with Google-like argument approximation and improved boolean operation;
- faving journals;
- a better way to classify submissions, (and journals), or at least either more classifications or an easier way to create your own;
- and of course, improved stability and attack-proofing.
Good luck to all!
Lmao, something to hide have we, wankers?
Even if there is a possibility of those comments about certain staff members being true.
ZAUSH. Why not fluffpanda82 -insert more random name here-? Next time Wolfy-Nail will do something "impressive" on this site... Hey hey! Also I'll have Animator PHD in this year next to my Web Designer/Developer that's my second job for years! C: Guys... It's Discussing!
I see recently Sofurry re-skinned to Weasyl.
~This "Project Phoenix" (reborn?) should be "good" and bug free after 6-7 years of hard develop.
Well with the exception of Zaush and the allegations against him, it can't be any worse then Yak and his iron grip on the coding/inability to talk to ANYONE and give them status updates, not even 'Neer
Watch the incompetence grow.
I'm usually not this pessimist but it's surreal for me :S I believe there is many polyhistor artists (ad: such as me) but i am wondering that the pageviews and famous names count?
I can't share logistic systems written in js/php unfortunately as they're locally licensed...
GOLLY
I dunno why people get their panties in a bunch over a FREE website that you're not obligated to be on, but hey. You try being an admin and trying to please a ton of people.
I mean I can kind of understand being told there would be updates without there being any but I dunno the straight hatred is just really not cool.
But, people are just upset about lied to a lot.
Of course, there's probably more problems that I've heard about...
They could be leaving Yak in charge.
But i know about a remained promised/updates like this: http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/.....5.png~original
Only good is maybe that FA is the most well known furry based free website for artists and watchers.
Updating about pending updates isn't the update they wanted updated.
I'll believe it when I see it.
The change seems good, the site needs something new.
After reading a few comments I think adding nameable folders to the gallery would be AMAZING!! I would love this especially for comics and such.
Also maybe nameable folders to favorites? This would be great I have so many favorites and I wish I could organize them in a cohesive way.
Thanks for reading this guys. :)
i'm just trying to be optimistic about it cause you never know what the future has in store! don't mind me :P
Top level guiidance, I'm sorry to say but 1/2 teh people on this site want to harm him in some type of way because of his "guidance" I'm not one of those people but I will say in a past experience Dragoneer sided with character copyright over legal ownership as someone stole my character and he said that teh theif counl keep the art and gave me a 1 week ban from the site. If letting theifs run wild qualifies as good guidance then this site truly has gone down the tubes.
"Top Level Guidance" you say? Down the tubes, perhaps.
...again.
On top of that, if only half keep coming back each time a huge batch leaves, then math dictates that even with the variable of how high the percentage is of those that leave, the numbers will continue to dwindle further and further and further until just a few are left. So if it gets down to 10 people, even if four leave and two return, that's only eight people, and so forth until only the admin remain. Add onto this the fact that the more people migrate to the more popular competition, the faster artists will be able to rebuild their base if said base isn't already there to begin with and the faster word will spread that more variety can be found on said sites. With how often FA seems determined to stir up controversy over the competency of their staff/stability of their site/need of new rules, those numbers will dwindle down soon enough. Hopefully soon enough for FA to get the wake-up call that something's gotta give to salvage what would be left enough to draw people back.
Only time will tell though.
In any case time will tell but as stated in several comments above this can't end well.
It really sucks, but if it is really a legal thing, it's understandable why they'd be hiding it.
O.O
Dost my eyes deceive me, or do words of logic exist on this thread? Please be mindful good person, or I shall suffer a heart attack, nay, a stroke!
Mind if I quote you on this? Please?
I'm not saying I like it, and frankly I'm not a fan of the fact that this situation ever happened to begin with years ago, let alone that it's continuing, but what's important for why FA is protecting it's ass is what lawyers are going to see, not what users, or random internet people are going to see. And what they'll see is hearsay and slanderous (Libelous) claims.
This would put Dragoneer at huge risk, with a legal target on his back if he did nothing, which is why he has to intervene.
You...
I tried to explain this to everyone. No one seems to get it.
Yes, it sucks, but unfortunately it's all about the legal stuff. Don't like it? Go change U.S. law.
Like I said, have some goddamn pride in YOUR WEBSITE and the users that flock to it! I have met some wonderful artists and made lifelong friends here. I don't want to clean house and get out, but you've made it clear that users don't matter here.
First Chase comes back as an admin now Zaush yeah time for me to pick up and leave, before Ediskrad somehow makes a come back.
Hell I'm surprised I never got hit for how much I brought up Yak and his ineptitude during the FA outage.
Adding to the chorus of voices calling for folders, and a blacklist option to block viewing of certain tags (with a little notification saying [X] Was Blocked For Containing Blacklist Word: [Y] if possible). Also filters and a search function for the note system allowing you to look up all notes to/from a certain user, containing a word/phrase in the subject line etc. Oh, and mass upload/move file (from gallery to scraps) option would be good too.
As for the UI itself...ehh, a little follow-the-leader (don't try to be Weasyl, stick to being FA! Weasyl is Weasyl) but I don't hate it. Not fangasming over it but don't hate it. Only trouble is the bells and whistles and bloatware generally filthing up Web 2.0 pages for those easily impressed by gimmicky bullcrap *cough* DeviantArt *cough* makes for a terribly slow experience. I mentioned above when Memebase transitioned from its original form to the current UI when it was in beta, had an option for the older UI - FA should do that for slower connections. Just a thought.
Will be interesting to see how this pans out.
Pretending this is a democracy long enough to vote REALLY HARD IN CAPSLOCK for that feature. XD
I can look all I want, uploading images....no way.
Oh hey, by the way. This is a free site! Thanks for not charging us ANYTHING to use it! And by that, I mean, do as you wish. It is a privately owned site anyway, is it not? Privately owned, but shared with the furry community and all it's joyful little splendors and Happy go lucky fellows!
Surely, you would think that a free site like this one would make everyone happy, despite what changes are made. Right?
Naaaah... apparently a lot furries not only gripe and moan about petty things, they gripe and moan about things given to them for free too!
And when they gripe and moan about something being "SO HORRIBLE", they stick around anyway to continue griping and moaning. :3
This makes no sense to me... If someone doesn't like something, even if it's free, why do they stick around and bitch about it? :O
It's like, a child playing in an ant hill and getting bitten by ants. He doesn't like it, but he stands in the ant pile anyway and just cries. Rather than leaving. Like a smart person. With a brain. AND (this is a big one) COMMON SENSE. ~hint. hint.~
As for this Zaush guy. Dunno him. Can't say I ever will. If I do, that's cool. I won't let someones past cloud my view of them. Everyone deserves a second chance. And hell, what if he didn't do anything? These are just rumors afterall, aren't they? I mean, what hard evidence is there anyway?
Now, let's go back to the part where having a brain and using it properly comes in handy...
IF this guy really did what he did. Then, why hasn't the victim contacted the police to have this guy taken in? Surely, a smart intelligent individual would have spoke up rather than passive aggressively (i'm putting that lightly) bitch to the community.
I mean, really. If I got raped by someone I didn't wanna get raped by, i'd have called the cops and had her taken to jail. I wouldn't rest until I knew this woman was behind bars where she wouldn't be able to rape another gay guy ever again, or at least for a very very long time. Common sense tells me also that, maybe it wouldn't be a good idea to spread this around either...
Seriously, from what I recall about ACTUAL rape victims, speaking about being raped isn't something they like to do, let alone, tell others about it. it's a rather sensitive subject for rape victims. So, hearing them sing like a canary about it just sounds funny to me.
But hey, I'm not here to judge anyone! Just voicing my opinion, like I can. Because I can. Because i'm a dragon, god damn it.
What good or better am I to judge another person if I don't even know the full story? Maybe this guy is a dirty criminal.... Maybe he's completely innocent and the "rape victim" is just someone wanting revenge and crying for attention...
I dunno. I just hope Zaush does a good job being an FA admin. Everyone should have a chance at redeeming themselves, no matter how bad a past they have. I'm not sure about the rest of you guys but... I like to look forward to a better future, not a shitty past.
You guys sure are optimistic and make me PROUD to tell others what a great community I am apart of! <3 (srsly. no, for realz. not fo play play.) So yuh...
Good luck to FA becoming a better place, and thanks to the admins who CHOSE to let us use it FOR FREE. I forgive those with a bad past. I seek to make friends with those who have fallen victim by something false. I can't imagine the hell this poor guy must being goin through if he really is innocent.
And now... I wait for the shit storm.
*crosses his leg over the other and sips his tea.*
And when they gripe and moan about something being "SO HORRIBLE", they stick around anyway to continue griping and moaning. :3
This makes no sense to me... If someone doesn't like something, even if it's free, why do they stick around and bitch about it? :O"
The dramawhores that bitch about FA don't make sense at all other than the fact they just like to hear themselves bitch. That's what it really boils down to.
Haven't we met before?
Ever remember seeing a big ass platinum dragon before?
You get what you pay for. As far as donations goes, I'll donate as long as I'm not going solo.
"If I got raped by someone I didn't wanna get raped by, i would have..."
Those are truly the most ignorant statements I've read in this whole journal.
I LITERALLY am giving a shit right now!
The fact that of ALL the comments made in this journal, THIS ONE, is the one you want to reply to. XD
Sure, some may find it as a kink for RP and what not, but it's no joke in RL. The two should be kept separate entirely.
Besides, I feel very strongly against rape in the RL sense. Buuuut you probably didn't know that. y'know, considerin' how ya just jumped to an assumption before even getting to know how I felt on the subject in the first place.
Shame, shame mister D:
Rape is unwanted sexual attention/ forced/ non consent.
...people that have these said kinks are consenting to the sex because they want the scenario. Rape is UNWANTED.
Just thought i'd make that clear before anyone else commented this shit. It's irrelevant to the journal and can really trigger someone to have an episode when all they wanted to do was read about the site, please refrain from this topic. Think about what you say before you type. (this isn't generated to the replied person, but the topic)
Thank you for that.
Look, this might just be wasting my time considering the 'clever' lines you've been using with all your statements, y'know, about furs bitching and moaning when there are artists who are only here because it'll take years to rebuild a fanbase and they need to pay bills NOW, despite other sites, wonder of wonders, ten times better (if not more, in some cases) managing to get their shit together with admin who actually at least give the impression of giving two shits about the community AND STILL MANAGE TO BE FREE!!!
But sarcasm aside- because let's be real, we're not immature nine-year-olds who know no better way of how to communicate our disagreements or displeasure with another's opinion- you did flaunt quite a bit of ignorance (I'm hoping in the actual definition, where-as it's a simple lack of knowledge, vs stupidity, which is the flat-out refusal to learn and flaunting that refusal) in that post about rape. Don't get me wrong; you're far from the first to hold that misconception, and I somehow doubt you'll be the last. However, if you actually took the time to use the internet for its original intention (a world-wide sharing of knowledge) rather than what it's been morphing into, you can find countless psychological studies as to why it's rare for rape victims to step forward, and just as many if not more studies and court cases as to why rape has become so painfully difficult to prove in this day and age, especially in certain states - damned near impossible in some countries.
I would explain at least the basis of it myself, but quite frankly it's late, I'm exhausted, there are those who can word it far better and who are far more knowledgeable on the subject than me, and I can't bring myself to believe you're worth the time and effort to type out anything further than i already have.
Good luck.
*hands you a bucket*
I'd bite my tongue on this subject, but it seems to have already become a sore one for a few people. So sitting idly by and being quiet won't fix it for sure.
...Why are you still here? <,=,<
Ya got a life. Go live it. Do important things. Stop wasting your time you silly billy!
1) I don't approve of rape at all.
2) I won't judge someone without knowing the full story of them first.
3) I know I can be a dick sometimes. Life's full of people like me. But I mean no ill harm.
4) Interpret my words the way you wish. I stand by what I say.
I'll add a little somethin else on there while i'm at it.
I ain't a perfect person. I know that. I say things that offend and make people butt hurt. I know that as well! I'm just bein' honest. Even if some people don't necessarily grasp that what i'm trying to say isn't meant to be put towards some sorta ill statement, I stand by my own words and opinions. I'm not here to judge anyone. Gosh, no. I could never do that. It ain't my place to do such a thing.
Sure, i'm sarcastic. But, meh. Whattya gonna do about it? This is just how some people are. Sorry if it hurt your e-feels or anything. The last thing I ever wanted to do was hurt someones feelings or cause them any negativity.
Buuuuut.... I kinda knew somewhere along the lines of writing that, that someone (or some people) would get upset.
I thought about what I typed, reread it, then posted it. I accept full responsibility for such actions. To do otherwise is just... well, not me. So, with that being said. I prepared for a shit-storm!
No, really. Trolling, to stir up shit just for the sake of stirring up shit. You actually read it before posting, KNEW you were going to get shit for it, and STILL posted.
Just... nah. I'm done. I mean, at least you're apologetic in the end of it all, but just... do the fucking research next time before making yourself look like not just a troll, but an idiotic troll at that.
I just voiced my opinion. Isn't that what everyone else is doing? Am I not allowed to do such a thing? Forgive me if i'm not.
It's only trolling to those who find it offensive. There are those who agree with what I say.
Then again... nearly half the furry population find everything offensive and are quick to label another person a troll. I suppose it makes them feel better about themselves in a way. For what reason? I'm... not entirely sure. I didn't call anyone out, nor did I make fun of anyone at all... All I did was voice my opinion on things, and I was called a Troll for it.
I miss the old days when we used to be able to talk about nice things... Like games and music and stuff!
Now a day, even a tiny bit of comedic relief is labeled as 'trolling' on just about anything. This world has grown so... stale. stern. strict. serious... well, you get the picture, lad.
Just hope he does a good job and helps improve this site in any way possible. ^^
This guy is very popular. No one will believe you if you talk about it. He lives in a different state than you, if you call the cops and it goes to trial, you'll have to go down there and you don't have the money for it. It's really fucking embarrassing that you went to his house and weren't able to stick to your "no" because you were scared.
How dare you try to decide what a woman would do in a horrible situation. You can't even imagine what she felt like. You don't know how you would feel like if you were raped until it happens and you have to choose to respond or not.
As for "singing like a canary", she talked about it in a private note to Dragoneer and it was published by someone throughout the site. So fucking do a little research before you talk, with your "cutesy" sarcasm.
Look, I don't like rape as much as the next guy. If it's happened to me or not. This ain't somethin I'd wish upon even my worst enemy.
I think you all aren't really getting the picture here. So i'll put it in a simplified summary :x
1) I don't approve of rape. At all.
2) I'm not going to judge someone without knowing the full story.
3) I know I can be a douchebag sometimes, and i've come to accept that.
4) Interpret my words the way you want. I'm not here to defame anyone or victimize anyone.
As stated above, i'm just pointing out my opinion on things. How an actual rape victim would probably react, ect. I'm not judging her at all. I'm neither calling her a rape victim, nor a non-rape victim, because I don't know for sure if she is or not. She might be innocent. She might not. I don't know the full story to make such accusations.
On the same end, I don't know about zaush either. soooo... i'm kinda just standin here shruggin. =/
It just seems that whenever someone popular gains a lot of power, or ANY power for that matter, people are ususally quick to criminalize them. For whatever reason.
I wouldn't know. I don't watch Zaush. His art ain't the kind I like.
Do you think that maybe the're trying to stop this situation? I mean, really. They can put whoever they want on the FA team. It's their site. we're just lucky to be here for the ride, eh?
I really don't think they'd care if hundreds, or even thousands, of people left FA. because they're not getting paid for it anyway. Are they?
I imagine they'd be bending over backwards and doing cartwheels just to please everyone IF they were getting paid, or donations. They'd more than likely make their decisions very carefully on who they allow on their team.
I mean, regardless, this is just going to be another failed attempt at doing anything to the site.
WELL THEN! If they are getting donations, i'm sure they're using the money for good things!
and if not... then damn. I'm glad I didn't donate. Not like I could anyway. I had no idea we could donate to them in the first place. :o
If they're not using the money for good things, why do people still give them money? Hell, if they're doing bad all around in general and if people just don't like them so much, why are they still getting money at all?
It's the peoples choice. They have more power than they know.
People give them money because there are always people willing to bury their heads in the sand, or there will always be new people. Every seven out of ten people will be idiots.
This isn't how I wanted to spend my day off. Let's go outside.
Anyway, I did look around for a donation option at one point, but never found it. I guess in a way I sorta did my homework on that part a while ago (like, a few years ago X3 ) ...but I just let it go when I couldn't find it.
Since then, I guess I just never bothered to look again.
My day off doesn't start until tomorrow. Thankfully work has slowed down considerably since the holidays are over! <3
We literally just stand around and talk. We get everything done in a matter of minutes! I'm so glad the holidays are over... on a retail standpoint at least.
I don't wanna go outside... it's too cold! D:
The victim did not chose for this information to be public at all. It was part of the Note Leak incident.
FA was hacked and someone made a website displaying the Notes of certain users.
Unless you mean, why is it being discussed on the internet at all? I do believe the victim was asking for advice on the situation, via private Notes.
Hrmm... I might consider getting a different account on another website. I won't leave this one, but i'll probably make another one as a back up just in case.
Also, i like your comics and art stuff! :D
well, it all went down a few years ago too. 2010 i think.
and, thank you!!!
Hrmm.. it's late. Imma go get some rest. X3
Nighty night all! :D
Yeah, I guess that is often just being hopeful ;)
Enjoyed your comment replies that I found along the way, haha.
This has definitely been a long time coming, hopefully this project comes to be, not sure how long FA will survive in it's current state and direction. Looks forward to this keeps fingers crossed.
Honestly this is all a fuckin waste of time.
So what if there are other furry sites? All that will do is separate us even more. Let's support what has been popular for quite some time, such as here on FA. Other sites may look better and may more bells and whistles, but does it really make things better?
To all administrators, I thank you for keeping this site up for all to use. I believe that if it weren't for FA and the folks running the site, we wouldn't find each other as well. This is our home.
To sum things up, FA is like Earth - are you REALLY leaving your home to go to another planet? Cause I step out of FurAffinity for 2-4 days and get bombarded with journals related to leaving this site. What ever happened to "keep calm and carry on"?
As for
So what if there are other furry sites? All that will do is separate us even more. Let's support what has been popular for quite some time, such as here on FA. Other sites may look better and may more bells and whistles, but does it really make things better?
Yes, that is the very definition of things being better.
Why would they ban ART.
[sub]because it's innappropiately sexual...[sub]
*rubs eyes* I think that's the sign it's time for me to throw in the towel with this thread. Holy shiznits, this post takes the cake. Congrats!
Just need to get the speed issues worked out since there are still slowdowns in processing.
If so many people have "SUCH Problems" with this site, how come the morons haven't left yet and made a new site with everything your all wanting, since your all so smart/capable. Instead of hacking on all the past mistakes, when they are trying and are actually working on something nice for the users?
Anyways. I wanted to ask more about this ticket system. Mainly because of groups. Is it possible on the new update to make something more manageable then "Tickets". Maybe a better program for dealing with this.
Also I think y'all may need more staff possibly?
I also hope to see the forums actually integrated to the actual site as well please?
you make this sound like it was a minor thing and not a grave criminal offense
Those people have a reason to bitch, this site's false promises and numerously, countless issues that staff took about a year to fix and get on is a problem.
For the biggest furry website, it's practically a shameful shithole, that's not opinion, it's a fact because the staff has a pretty faulty staff.
And even still there shouldn't be so much harking when they offer to provide something, they are still trying, even if it is faulty.
See the 'comment hidden by administration'? That shit? That's where people have -tried- to inform and gotten hidden for it.
Look for it yourself. Just google Zaush. This is not hard.
Are you tell everyone here that Encyclopedia Dramatica is a valid reference to prove anything.
These are not facts at all.
If you have ever been to school, you would know that wiki-anything is never a valid citation.
Unless your pointing to some other non-existing reference you found on google.
I guess my google isn't working.

1. I don't know what the fuck is going on with all this drama.
2. What is with this crazy "LETS MAKE THINGS MODERN". Fuck modern I just want something reliable. Deviant Art is sluggish at best and full of ads that randomly pop up and play sounds and crap. FA may not be beautiful, but for the most part it works as is and helps me find artists to commission. Thats all i want. I don't really care for social media. I have Skype for communicating with people.
So basically I'd like these following criteria to be met with a yes:
-Will it be a quick-performing website?
-Will it be intuitive and easy to navigate?
-Will it be easy to use?
-Will you make tags mandatory? It is kinda sad when E621 is easier to find things on than FA. (Although even there some people don't know proper details and get things messed up).
-Will it have a way for commission notifications to be separate from regular journals? Sorry, but for some artists who constantly post life updates... I kinda don't care and just want to know when you are open for commissions
-Will it have a magic button to filter out all the drama-shit I don't care about or want to hear about?
-Will it blend?
As you can see some of these questions are broad but serious while others express the "holy fuck I am tired" aspect of things.
As such, here is a table flip emote to reward myself for dealing with reading all of this and the related "oh man this furry guy did some stuff and now FA put him on a design team" shit.
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻)
To sum it all up in one word: YES
Thank you.
-Will it be a quick-performing website?
Nope. Combined with back-end performance issues that always seem to pop up whenever they try to make a "big change", I imagine this new design will slow things down.
-Will it be intuitive and easy to navigate?
Probably not. One can hope, of course, but don't hold your breath too long.
-Will it be easy to use?
Possibly. It really depends on how much they are changing. All I can see this as is a new coat of paint on a rusty car. I have serious doubts that they are going to be making any changes to the back-end of things.
-Will you make tags mandatory? It is kinda sad when E621 is easier to find things on than FA. (Although even there some people don't know proper details and get things messed up).
From what I hear, this isn't even a part of the "plan".
-Will it have a way for commission notifications to be separate from regular journals? Sorry, but for some artists who constantly post life updates... I kinda don't care and just want to know when you are open for commissions
Nope. This is a huge back-end change and I doubt that someone (because naming names will get me banned, yo) is competent enough to handle such a big job without completely goofing it up.
-Will it have a magic button to filter out all the drama-shit I don't care about or want to hear about?
Nope.
-Will it blend?
Abso-fucking-lutely
Of course this is all just my opinion, but I'm moe than willing to bet I'm right.
1) You need to listen to your users; but you certainly cant talk with each one personally. Instead, implement the features that are most wanted. Because it's nearly impossible to get an accurate list of desirables from a simple forum or journal, create a request/voting system like Microsoft has for their developer products. Example: http://visualstudio.uservoice.com/f.....1-languages-c-
Here, anyone (or perhaps, anyone with an account) gets a certain number of votes per time interval (perhaps votes are replenished every release cycle for the project). Anyone can create a feature request, but the community uses their voting power to pick and vote for the most important features to them individually. Since FA has thousands of active users this could work extremely well for prioritizing feature work. Dumb features don't get votes while critical ones magically float to the top!
2) Once you've scoped out the most important features, put together a realistic timeline based on how much development time and testing time is available and make that public. Now people can have realistic expectations on deliverables and management can keep an eye on progress.
As long as this is repeated each release cycle, there is no chance of blurry, foggy, pie-in-the-sky projects that end up going nowhere.
Now, if they actually add a feature like voting on issues in a timely manner to the site, then the problem obviously self-resolves. Until then, though, I honestly don't have any hope to see this site change at all unless they achieve the Ballmer Peak level of coding one drunken night.
If they really want transparency and users to feel they have a say, and they still don't deliver at least some community driven items, then people have a legitimate reason to "swear off" the site. What we have now is a bunch of loud mouthed people with strange superiority complexes in regards to how software is made and the decisions made by the people who run the site. The site is what it is, its never really been open for discussion, until, perhaps now?
If this gets hidden I will leave.
I would rather see a nonfurry code the site myself. Unfortunately that would involve hiring people, paying them good wages, and asking for $$$ in some form to help pay for that. Course then you run into those trust issues that if you donated to help fund something like that, the money would be spent wisely on it.
so they can trust an offender but not a good-doing normal user?
sorry, thats a little bull-shitty to me
im so done
brb- updating my weasyl and DA
Is there the possibility of losing the information of users?
Should I back up all my art?
This is something I'd like to know.
I just know a lot of my commissioners are here and a lot of my good friends etc.
Seeing past happenings with the site (updates and all)
I'm a bit worried with a full site redo.
It has spread to more then just FA, and into Tumblr as well.
Not just concerning the coding worries either.
I am worried too. But I'm not leaving.
I just want the team to be upfront if they have any doubts so we can all get prior warning before this all happens...whenever it does.
business hasnt really boomed until now.
which is why i worry
I still enjoy FA - despite it being a little wonky at times, its still the first site I open when I wake up in the morning lol.
SoFurry is much more about the sexual aspect of the fandom than any of the other sites if you ask me. And it makes me uncomfortable. Not to mention their poor handling of stolen art.
Not today, you rascals!
ALL ABOARD THE BAN TRAIN, TOOT TOOT
Next stop, Weasyl! One way tickets only.
Take care to wipe your feet before boarding the car nearest you, and have a safe trip!
:>
Can't say much for the bans, but this might sum up the hidden comments plague as posted by DarthAislin... somewhere above:
It's a bit of a legal thing I think, a lot of people are voicing their concern in a way that constitutes as legal Libel, and from seeing a few lawyers posting in various areas such as journals about why this is happening, the reasoning seems to be that if they allow the comments to stay, and the people who are saying them to go without being reprimanded they're opening themselves up for a legal battle over allowing the libel of someone on their site, when libel goes against their ToS/CoC.
It really sucks, but if it is really a legal thing, it's understandable why they'd be hiding it.
Just thought that might help!
If someone says "x person raped y person!" and it isn't true/hasn't been proven, that is libelous.
Someone says "x person was accused of raping y person and there are multiple, matching stories and we're concerned about them having access to sensitive information," that is in no way libelous. It is a statement of past events (true) and valid concerns.
If the FA staff are really going to stick with the "we're avoiding libel" defense, they should only be hiding comments that fit the legal definition of the term instead of just handing out suspensions for what seem to often be innocuous posts and deleting all the comments they get their hands on that seem unsavory to them.
But again, that's just what I've seen and gathered thus far.
Terms of service states : "By using FA you will not, Submit material which is threatening, abusive or harmful; that violates others' privacy, that may be viewed as defamatory, libelous or illegal."
Submit, as I would take it in translation, would mean either in submission files, journals, or comments. Anything that you submit to the site itself, not just on the page of your own account.
It can also be taken as harassment which is covered in the Code of Conduct : "DO NOT Harass Other Users - Please refrain from harassing, targeting or spamming other users of the site, or encouraging others to do so by proxy. Fur Affinity strives to allow users freedom of expression, but asks users refrain from making comments, journals, statements or from posting material which is racist, bigoted, offensively targets a philosophy, religion, gender or sexual preference. Comments which are overly aggressive, threatening, personally insulting or needlessly abusive are likewise prohibited. Disruptive behavior or mob tactics meant to interfere with the normal flow of the community will be met with zero tolerance."
That and with this involving staff, the code of conduct also covers it here : "DO NOT Impersonate, Harass or Defame Fur Affinity Users, Staff or its Moderators"
They have the right to deal with issues along these lines either by removing them entirely and/or suspending/banning users who take such actions.
I do believe the admins and mods are handling the situation in the best way that they can in compliance with their Terms of Service, Code of Conduct, and any legal issues it also involves. That is really all we can ask of them at this time.
I also believe that anyone who feels unsafe or insecure using the site for any reason should feel free to handle the situation how they see best as far as leaving or taking a break from the site/situation. However, those who are being dramatic or harmful while doing so is where further action is being taken.
I don't really know anything about the whole drama as I don't know any of the people involved personally. I have no right to post my own opinion on the matter since I don't have enough information to fully form one. I do know that I enjoy the FurAffinity community and will not be leaving. I also don't know if they knew or didn't know this would cause drama or not. Personally I think anything they do would have caused drama in one way or another. All they can do is reign it in as best they can, where they can.
Also, libel is quite often used incorrectly. By a legal standard, something has to be false or made up in order to be libelous. When something is said that people either know or believe is true, it ceases to be libel. As well as this, the people writing on this journal are not harassing Said Person, they are not going onto his page and commenting to him about this. These people are bringing up legitimate concerns to someone that had the authority to not bring a person into a project.
I'm not pro-Zaush, anti-Zaush, anti-anti-Zaush or whatever. (I don't even watch the guy. I'm not spending a thousand bucks on a single furry porn commission.)
Bad move on their part, I'd say. They're drowning in drama and it's their own fault. They knew what kind of reputation this person had, they knew that more than half the fandom dislikes this person for one reason or another, and yet they did it anyways. If not keep him off the project entirely, why not just keep it a secret at the very least?
No, let's announce it with the brightest neon lights and all the bells and whistles we can find. What could possibly go wrong?
As much as it is scary, FA could hire a convicted felon who murdered 10 people if they wanted to. They as a company, just like any other company or community, are in charge entirely of their own staff. We don't know what risks and rewards they weighed when making a decision so we can't really speculate on that. Whether this is right or wrong is entirely up to debate, just not on this site via public forum as it is against the terms of service to do so over such sensitive topics and accusations.
Accused also does not equal guilty nor does it equal proven true. Any legal situation is between parties involved and the authorities, and only them. I am not trying to be-little any accusations or possible victims by saying this. What I am saying is that the people involved directly with the situation should handle it with the authorities, not on the internet. It doesn't involve the rest of us and people who have concerns should be contacting those in charge directly instead of presenting concerns in ways that they are aware will cause drama. Whether or not the people in charge will change their minds or not is not in our hands and whatever they decide we as users have to accept. Users, however, do not have to use the site and can decide whether or not this is reason enough to continue it's use or move elsewhere.
I also covered the libel issue in my original post but I will reiterate. Some of the posts are libel. Not everyone posting about the accusations know them to be true. That said, for those who do, and do also believe they are fall under other terms that also allow for the staff to remove the same content. This primarily being what is in the Terms of Service for the site.
Terms of service states : "By using FA you will not, Submit material which is threatening, abusive or harmful; that violates others' privacy, that may be viewed as defamatory, libelous or illegal."
Accusing or posting about past accusations can be taken as a violation of privacy, as well as be considered abusive, harmful, and/or defamatory. To also be fair, a lot of the comments I have seen get removed have not been very diplomatic in expressing concern. That's not to say all of them haven't been but a lot of them have just been down right nasty. It's one thing to express concern in a situation. It is another to be brash and confrontational about it. Again, I know not all of the removed comments were this way, however, this goes back to what I said previously about handling concerns in private, and not publicly so to not violate site TOS or CoC.
If your on a site with admins you cannot trust and are not capable of doing the so-called title they have taken up, that's not good for business.
Compliments of a user above.

This was 09' i think.
We've been waiting a while.
We've been promised a lot of things, we complain because we never got any real progress except the commission tab back up
and able to opt out of vigi-link or whatever it was.. Out of all the money people have put into the parts for the systems of FA, and people supporting it with banners, yes. We have a right to complain, and yes, it is valid.
This layout looks nicer than this... "phoenix"
http://stuff.veekun.com/fa-timeline.html
the author hasn't updated this in a couple years but it has a decent amount of history
That's funny.
We aren't fucking stupid, and if you can't take critique, when you ask for it, you're a poor creator.
Just saying.
Go ahead, hid this one to. i'll still know i typed it, and i'm sure some people will have read it before you snipe it.
Especially how my comment wasn't anything but my opinion, and there's a lot more worse shit in this thread.
Least i still use your site, unless that's not enough support for you.
I can take my business elsewhere just fine. But the thing is i chose not to. Way to thank the community.
PERSONALLY I LIKED THE OLD ONE.
again i say the new one looks like a crappy business mock up that doesn't relate to the suiting/art and music fun filled community that is furries.
No sense in referencing FA, it's not fun anymore.
They were comments dealing with a certain user who is on the team remaking the site, who has (whether they are true or not) past accusations against him.^^;
Just the shitty new layout.
Like i said : " crappy business mock up, free template for site layout."
That's all that i was mentioning. :l
I guess it was because someones doing such an awesome job at designing and they felt offended.
Because i didn't say anything about admins, or anything. GENERAL Layout critique, just calling it out for the shit it is and talked about how we dont want modern shit
just something that works, you know... properly.
Seriously though, the site will not get up off it's lazy ass and start trying to correct itself 'til we start saying "We've had enough of this foolishness, there's other sites out there now, let's go visit and make those big and strong, then maybe FA will pull it's head out of wherever it is and stop doing all this stuff that the community is very VOCALLY against."
'cause, you know, that's the problem. It's not that FA serves it's community, so much as itself. and that's kind of the wrong way to go about it.
Consistent, they are not XD
And I agree. They definitely need to focus on the functions and making sure everything works well, first. As for being modern or such, I really don't mind that too much, but it would be nice to see it retain some amount of its own personality instead of being like pretty much everything else out there.
The only negative term i had used was it looked like shit
the rest was constructive.
i praised the update but pointed out the preview looked like a free template off a site, and too corporate for what fa was.
i put some points to note that and then was done.
like i said, guess someone was offended i thought it was just a template.
Welcome to the furry fandom!
But in the consequence they will either stay because they enjoy drama or come back because they notice they can't make as much money on those other sides.
I imagine his leather chair is quite sweaty.
[insert gold star] [fuck it, have another one, this really made my day]
First would be hovering a mouse over an image for a larger preview version of said image to reduce the number of clicks some people may do for their usual closer look. Although, such a function isn't needed with FA's current (and possibly future) design in my own personal opinion.
Also, like on a couple of other specific sites, I think something that could be added is for a user to set a background for their own specific profile page. I think that doing so would add a lot to the visual appeal of the site as well as add more variety rather than stick with the plain old normal black backdrop that FA usually utilizes.
This was already mentioned above, but mandatory keywords, the ability for users to add 'community' keywords to someone's work (along with a voting system for said keywords like on a certain other site I've seen that I won't mention at this time unless asked to, which wasn't mentioned above). I think this would serve to help improve upon the site's current search system to allow users a better time of fine-tuning their searches to find what they want since some users may not put enough in the keywords section to fully and accurately describe their work (as I've seen a number of times before on FA).
To an extent, it does look pretty cluttered, and the layout is pretty similar to SoFurry, You really don't want to go and do that.
I see people saying it looks similar to Weasyl but I don't really see the similarity there, maybe its just me.
I have not been with FA long enough to feel that the layout is too old, but I also don't mind it getting a makeover, If it ever does.
I just wonder if the Staff is going to see some changes too. Because that certainly needs a makeover for sure.
Looking at it now, that size would annoy the hell out of me. I like my tiny text.
*cough* Tumblr has some neat ideas on simplicity *cough*
Give it some personality, some uniqueness, some life.
I know I'm just going to get a stock PR answer that this is "an early build", but it needs some flavor to it.
It seriously looks like "Generic CSS Template #1,231,341" right now, and that's what makes it so bad.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPcTinqLiUU
I pesume this will sort by a certain thread so if a user sends another note on a different topic it will start a new chain. If so that would be awesome.
FA banter always makes good comic reading over morning tea
Never change darlings
FA has it's own NSA
Ironic and sad really, you try to change the website to the better and attract more users, instead you scare them away and it's sad because a good amount of those I watch have moved over to Weasyl.
Tsk Tsk
'Neer won't admit he's made a mistake and anyone who tries to prove he had, just like people are showing the things about Zaush, are all getting the ban hammer.
this is just my thoughts on this don't bite me head off i need it
Well, in all honesty, I'm fine with the site the way it is except for a few much needed tweaks:
FOLDERS - ...truly, I don't think there is an artist/writer on this site who wouldn't appreciate the luxury and organizational benefit of having folders for their galleries. It makes things much more accessible and neat and it also makes tracking down an image in your 500+ image/writing gallery a snap both for the artist/writer and for viewers as well. This, to me, is the most important update this site could use.
BLACKLISTING - This is another thing that I've seen recurring over and over again. As some have pointed out, it's not enough to simply SFW your account or even switch to GENERAL art/writing submissions, because a lot of the things people wish to filter out of their submissions catalogs are both GENERAL and SFW. So, it would be nice to be able to continue to watch your favorite artists/writers without having to see some of their unfavorable works.
...those are really the only two things that I think NEED to happen sooner rather than later. But, as for things that might simply be advantageous and beneficial to the site, I think there are a few additional tweaks that could be useful, too:
JOURNAL FAVES - ...in the same way that images, writings, animations, music and other submissions can be faved, I think it would be a great idea to be able to fave journals as well. I think enough people have commented about the desire to be able to do this that it would be a welcome addition to the FA layout.
COMMENT FAVES/LIKES - ...again, NOT a necessary feature, but something that people have voiced their desire to see realized on this site. It could be a good source of encouragement and a way to boost a sense of appreciation across the site.
RANDOMIZED FAVORITES - ...this, again, is not so much a necessity as it would be nice to see it implemented. This raises awareness of various users and their talents when visiting a person's page. I think it could be useful.
FAVORITES FOLDERS - ...still, just a pleasantry. It would be very nice to be able to sort the millions and millions of faves one has gathered through the years for easy reference and enjoyment.
NOTES FOLDERS - ...again, something that would be useful, especially for the folks who conduct business on FA. Sorting your notes would greatly come in handy and would make your inbox look a lot fresher and more organized. ^_^
...umm...I think that's all from me. As I've said before, this is a free site, so I really don't have cause to complain. You provide a great service and I can get my business out there as well as connect with some amazing people who I would have never met, otherwise. I do think that policies and practices need to be adhered to, both within the community and the staff, but with regard to this recent situation, I'm afraid I don't have enough information to form an opinion on the matter. I'll simply say this: Sometimes doing what's best for the site you've dedicated your heart and soul to means making the hard decisions for the betterment of it all. Whether it's making a controversial decision and sticking to it, or making a change of direction to satisfy the masses while compromising your former stance, the decisions will be tough. But, as long as you do what you feel is best for the team and its people as a whole, I think it'll turn out alright, in the end.
Thanks for the site and good luck with the launch! ^_^
its small, but i find it still works really well as long as you know how to clean it out??
What I mean is, a folder system where you can have more options and labels for folders so that it's more easily recognizable for reference. For example, a folder labeled COMMISSIONS - JANUARY or REQUESTS or CONVERSATIONS with BOB WOLF would be helpful because it would be a convenient way to order your priorities as opposed to just "high priority, medium priority & low priority". You are 100% right that these existing folder in the notes are useful, but I think a much more effective way of arranging notes would be to actually have labels that can be customized. And also, once something is moved to a folder, it would be really great if it would be removed from the inbox instead of just colorized. That helps to avoid all the clutter, too. OH! And if there could be little icons for when a note is replied to (like in your email messages), that would actually be amazing! ...because Lord knows I sometimes have to dig into my SENT messages folder to see if I've actually replied to a note or not. Sometimes, when checking notes on various media platforms (ie: computer, smart phone, tablet, etc) you open a note and intend to reply, but in the daily shuffle you forget and when you go back to your notes, all you can tell from your inbox is that you've read the note, at least, but you have to go into your SENT messages to determine if you've replied if you can't recall.
...again, a MINOR tweak that's more of a luxury than a necessity, but still a very useful addition to the site amenities ^_^
Not okay in the slightest, but.. I'll take the lesser of two evils.
At least they don't freaking -crash- every other month...
FurAffinity has been promising us cake for years. We've never gotten it yet...
The cake is a lie.
I think it also has to do with how InkBunny has had a lot of "unfavorables" allowed on their website, so their reputation isn't nearly as squeaky clean. And then Sofurry seems to have a bigger writer base than the other websites, and so many artists might brush it off as being a furry writing only website. Those are just some of the reasons though, there's probably a LOT of reasons that are personal to the user, or things I didn't consider.
I personally like Weasyl as a secondary/tertiary online gallery because of it's lovely site features, and the fact that there's more features being implemented as users request them. Things like the character profiles are /really/ cool to me! :D
...MAYBE FA should consider adding an edit feature for typos. *Cough*
Man, whatever happened to the awesome previous re-designs?
I don't know much about the hooha concerning the admins, but I feel like it's a step in the wrong direction. Oh well.
But with this "Project Phoenix" Idea, i think i can't become friendly with.
Have you ever heard of the Phrase: Never touch a running System?
Sofurry aswell as AGNPH.net has made the Error and have "Updated and anewed" there sites with new Design and so on...
But i find, they have gone the wrong way.
I find the Sites are not so clearly structured as before.
I miss a little the naive, intuitive and dreamy Style from before.
Now all is so... modern, so sterile and confused.
And now you will make here the same Error?
Why?
Only some Admins mean they need a change of Scenery?
Damn, make this at your Homes, go in holydays or so, but don't do this to Sites that goes on for good!
(Yes, i don't know anything of the Programmer work behind the Scenes. It could be that the code behind Furaffinity is a total mess and needs a complete cleanup and thats the right Moment for a new style in someones eyes and i can understand part of it.
But sometimes it is better to hold on old things that goes well, as to jump on any train that comes the Way, only it looks better from the outside.)
Okay, it could be possibly, that i become a little old, despite my only 32 years, but as i say, not ever is the modern way the better. That is called life experience.
I hope i could make myself understanable. ^^
For your information. This system is a MESS and needs to be rebuild.
Layout and Navigation is a matter of taste, but that's not the point here.
And i have written, that i don't know if the Code behind furaffinity is a mess or not.
K, i don't like the new Style in this picture to make it easyer.
I hope there will be an option to go back to the old style.
RIGHT FUCKING HERE.
NNNGH!
I don't care who is doing it, this site could definitely use a new look.
So aside from folders I definitely want to see more support for writers here. I don't want to be forced to download a file because FA only uploads .rtf and I don't want my readers to have to do that either. Which takes me back to the problem of not wanting to upload my writing or read anyone else's on here at all.
And I actually like the preview image although that probably puts me in the minority. Besides the final design (if it happens) may and probably will end up being very different.
OMG I totally agree with this.
I definitely am hoping for more writer-friendly features as well, but (IMO) they need to be carefully considered; many of the "more writing-friendly" solutions I've seen implemented on other sites are at least for me a lot more of a pain to read than things posted using the txt method on FA. Which would be why I gave up and just started posting my stories on a WordPress site. ;)
It would be WONDERFUL, if written submissions could just be a large text post on a page, and not having to be downloaded. Really hoping that happens.
That being said, those of you using the "free site/privately owned" defense better not post any journals complaining when Youtube eventually changes it's layout......again(Because you know they will).
When(more like if) this begins, will it be all at once? Or will it be gradual? And by this I mean the actual change once you work out the coding and tech stuff.
Also will there be further outages when this transition is occurring?
I will not, personally, be leaving the site because of what the duck ever happened/is happening or what may or may not have happened with this Z person. I don't care, personally. I know it's harsh to say, but you know what? What someone did, and what they do for a profession (or whatever you want to call it) should not mean you all have the feels/rights to slander them. Is it your business? No.
This is the problem with the "Furry Fandom". You all get hyped up over something that you have NO proof of. Sure, the guy may have written something somewhere, but who are you to judge? Have you never done anything wrong? No one is perfect. You aren't. I'm not. Staff aren't, either.
So, instead of slandering, like you are all doing (well, a VAST majority), how about you hold your tongues and just move on. No one begged you to read/look at this update icon.
Perhaps if the portion of the site actually stuck to the suggestions, maybe the administrators would not have the need to delete/remove your comments. Nanuk wouldn't be here except to take on the suggestions.
However, I can now see the flame-war about to occur.
Enjoy your day.
All I'm saying is when a business chooses someone to work on their projects, that person is a part of the team. There is a reason businesses want to know what you've done in the past, and there's a reason they don't hire people for it. By hiring them they say that they are fine with having someone who's done something like that work for them. It's the same thing here, just without the money. Continuing to use the site after they have brought that person onto the team is supporting the site. I just can't with good conscious support it, and I don't see how anyone else can.
However, FA put him on the team for a reason. Regardless of his past, or whenever it happened, it should not matter to us except that people push to get this promised BS that they have been falsely given in the past.
Who knows? Do they plan on keeping said person AFTER everything's done?
Please dont' get me wrong either when I say I do feel pity for the other person of the party in the occurrence that may have (or may not have) been on the horrid end of the stick. However, I must say that who are we, as people, to judge. I understand it's in our nature to do so, but the fandom caries bullshit years after. (Or so I have noticed.)
You're right. To continue slandering is the wrong thing to do, but why are people getting suspended just for discussing whether it was a good idea to bring him onto the team? To be honest, that's my biggest complaint right now. The admins say they want to bring more transparency, yet we aren't allowed to even discuss the decisions of the people who run the site?
I just don't think it was a good idea to bring someone to the project when they knew all the drama it would bring up again. Even I saw this coming from a mile away.
I'm not going to assume why they are getting banned/suspended, but more leaning towards turning it into a flame war an not discussing it. Opinions are written, an most of them are written in a way where it's not right. It could have been written better. I understand your concern with the said person in question, I understand everyone's concern. I'm not turning a blind eye to it, even if it seems so. I'm not. Sure, the owner of the site could have asked a public opinion, but perhaps he's going with who he thinks is best for running a site operation that will (HOPEFULLY...) improve FA for the better. I personally don't care who's on the team as long as shit finally gets done instead of repeated promises.
Good idea or not, at least we were informed publicly of who would be on the team an what progress they have come up with so far even if a temporary image/whatever. The main way I'm looking at it, is at least they are finally showing us progress rather than giving"It'll probably be done by this time. Here, have a progress bar. Oh, wait, it'll take longer because of x number of reasons..."
In the end, for me, regardless of everyone's distaste for this fellow, look at it from a different damned view an be happy they want to improve the site now instead of making us pay for certain aspects. How much of this site has anyone actually PAID for, (No, I am not including adverts) and how much as the site owner actually paid for?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15HC4WI2hsk
but really this is like fussing over celebrity charges in a sense.
does it make a significant difference?
or did you even care in the first place?
it's not going to prevent you from sleeping or getting up in the morning.
all i see is a crap load of hearsay by people who've tried starting this shit before, and who are probably refreshing at this moment, to fix one sided arguments just to spew crap.
don't force characterizations on me either.
I hate that people are playing jury in the court of public opinion about this. We just DON'T know exactly what happened. We only have a few possibly biased accounts (also the person who accused him also dropped the accusation). Now lets drop it with the degredatory comments
If you wanna know, there's encyclopedia dramatica, tumblr, and several other sites. I can't post you links because the admins will probably hide it before you get to see it. People are being degrading because the man has made a serious offense, and they want him to work with them? And when people do go to Dragoneer about it, he defends him? Nah, not to mention there are others with these "accusations" mate.
A lot of people can only be 'accused' for things, and lose trials etc. despite proof. If those notes and everything else that was leaked shows multiple people having complaints on this one person in addition to shady and sketchy things being said by him, doesn't that set off an alarm in your head? Or would you say 'Hey, I want to come to your house for dinner tonight and we can be best buds.'
If you go to a store or anywhere and continually have bad service and report it, do you think its logical of a company to say 'well you're only accusing of this, but nothing has been proven.' ? And wouldn't it bother you that those people who are giving that bad service are still there and continually, despite this reporting, give that bad service? Or how about a lot of people (to keep from a gender bias, I will say people as it happens to both sides) complain to HR about a person harassing them etc. to the point they feel uncomfortable in the work place? Or what if they went to their boss first? Well, that employee is just 'accused' of harassment, but they can't 'prove it' despite multiple people complaining, so HR doesn't do anything but give him some 'sensitivity training' and allow all of it to continue.
And I'm sorry, but who in the world thought it would be a good idea to get this person on the team despite the drama that happened? I would have told this person 'sorry, but your history and involvement in this particular scenario I do not think you are a good fit for FA, or what we stand for.' IF and only if a trial happened and it wound up in his favor, then it would tell another story, and I don't think people would be as upset.
And EVEN then - much like Wiki - it can be edited at anyone's lie-sure!
Misspelling intentional, of course :B
FA, for PR purposes, made a bad decision in picking someone with this in their history. It cannot and will not put a nice light on the site. Without a proper conviction / outcome from a real trial, FA had no moral right to say 'We think you are innocent, please work for us!'. Again, who thought this reaction /wouldn't happen/?
Obviously there was speculation on other things involving other users with no screen grabs, so that I can only speculate on until further proof comes to light, and I really only see the incident with proof / screen grabs relative to this. I do not feel comfortable having someone who was involved in a serious accusation in a position of power on this site. END OF STORY.
What's next? They're going to try to take away our rape porn?
The last thing the fandom needs is its own Anita Sarkeesian.
But if this ain't then maybe you need to understand that the people of Tumblr are expressing something that needs to be said on the ordeal, it shouldn't be ignored, because then you just look really ignorant.
Apparently she didn't go to the police because she couldn't prove it or something?
Because she let herself get coerced or something?
I dunno, maybe she did decide she wasn't in the mood and decided to call it rape.
Seriously, why didn't she go to the police?
Nah, I'd seriously reconsidering in hiring someone like that on staff.
Zaush does sound like a jerk. I'll give you guys that.
But I do legitimately fear the the SJWs will infect our fandom like they infected gaming.
I'm so glad I'm gay so I don't have to worry nearly as much about false rape accusations, being sued for sexual harassment, etc. by misandrists who use exploit men with their female privilege.
You really should take the Red Pill, join the Men's Rights Movement. We're not like the liberal feminist media would like you to believe.
And no, I will not join the Red Pill or whatevs.
Social Justice warriors are not a bad thing, if they infected gaming like you say, I don't really see much of the effect it has on the gaming fandom/industry, it all comes down to how said companies decide how sales and business should be handle and choices will either help or drag them down, exploiting something because it's wrong is not a bad thing, it pretty much makes things better.
If you are not capable of dealing with the truth, then I cannot help you.
It's a men's rights term. Admittedly silly but it speaks to an audience raised on pop culture instead of classic literature.
It has infected the gaming fandom in that now people are trying to silence artists and prevent them from creating the characters they want, big tits and booties and all. We can't have games where some enemies just happen to be women because it's apparently misogyinist. (And one Kotaku writer even said that maybe we should consider killing female players in online gaming a form of rape. She later redacted the article after people pointed out how stupid it was.) Now we have a writer in The Guardian asking if skyscrapers are sexist. (She also later redacted that title and changed it to something less stupid.)
Feminism has turned into the inevitable radical feminism and it is now a dark time for men, shamed simply for being male.
https://www.youtube.com/user/Mundan.....?feature=watch
And I hate this guy.
I like folks like Anita since she actually targets the people who set those ideals in a non-antagonistic manner. She gives great critique and suggestions to improve the writing of female characters.
Again, this is all speculation. The hard facts are that she did not turn to the police, so no police report was ever put down, nobody was convicted of a crime, and the world should have kept on turning. However, furries have this annoying habit of fixating on something harder than flies on shit so, with as much fervor as a vore-lover fapping away to Animal Planet, they decided they would be the Social Justice Warrior the world needs to "right this rumored wrong".
I do respect people, who, when they see me drunk at a gay bar, decide not to come on to me. Hell, some people won't RP with me on Skype if they know I'm drunk. However, unless you're absolutely wasted and/or passed out, like if you're just buzzed, then I have a problem with that being called "rape."
Though your username is unfortunate, as Big Red is the name of an infamous feminazi who tried to silence the Men's Movement at the University of Toronto. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvYyGTmcP80
Look how calm the MRAs are compared to the feminazi.
False Rape Accusations
Misandry in the Media

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57EWApOypIQ
Maybe you should do a bit of research on the topic of men's rights before you assume that men have no problems and that somehow we all live a carefree existence.
for example, it turns out (from reading links provided by MRAs) that domestic violence against men by women tends to be in the form of slapping or throwing things, whereas domestic violence against women by men tends to be in the form of choking
so while women clearly are seeking to leave a red mark, men are seeking to kill
and it is my understanding that circumcision (when the doc actually asks...) is by and large requested by the father, for the entirely narcissistic reason that he wants his son's penis to look like his, for reasons beyond my comprehension
tell me more about your problems. if these shenanigans are "masculinity" then maybe we should have less of it
And for circumcision, I would like to see where you get this from? Possibly Salon.com or The Huffington Post?
And no, I'm not gonna tell you about my problems. It's clear that you're suffering from misandry. I did not say that what Zaush did is "masculinity" implying he's guilty. Nor is choking women masculinity any more than castration is femininity.
You seem to believe that masculinity is a bad thing. Just another symptom of the gynocracy I guess where men are punished for being men.
and this is bad somehow
right, well, good luck with that then
I CANNOT LAUGH HARD ENOUGH
ALL HAIL THE SACRED MOTHERS.
Sexual offense is no joking matter.
Seeing one side of the story can make the claims seem untrue, but with multiple people saying this person has done these things to them, and the accused only slandering the other party....doesn't look good for the accused. That's how I see it, and I'm inclined to side with the people who are upset for the right reasons.
I also find it amusing that so many people here claim that police investigation and judicial process are not needed because "there was enough evidence to prove that [Zaush] did indeed do something wrong", yet make no effort to dig up and provide said evidence.
Except she never accused him of rape in the first place. The only reason this even came to light is because FA is such a hole filled cess pit that hackers got every note ever sent and it was found through there. Kind of blows the whole blame-the-victim theory of yours out of the water when she didn't even call it rape, and never even announced it for all of FA to see. You'd actually know that if you bothered to know any of the details, but I guess it's easier to say "she obviously lied" rather than look at Zaush's creepy months of begging for sex beforehand as any evidence of -his- misconduct.
UGHIHATHER
I'm staying out if it, I just want to point out the good coming from this.
It does look a little cluttered ;u; The current site is simple and easy to use, why not work on this one...?
Comes all the way back around.
You know, women sometimes do lie about being raped in order to get back at men.
http://www.falserape.net/rape_culture.html
I just want legit evidence before we go around firing people just because an angry mob demands it.
Yes, the FA staff is acting horribly. They should not be removing comments or banning people. (Of course, implying there wasn't any doctoring of the comments, which is pretty easy to do in Photoshop.)
And TBH, I'm actually a fan of ED. The TomPreston thread on EDF has really helped me improve my art.
Also, I'm not denying that the staff is horrible. I read all of the articles.
But I'm not moving to Weasyl just because of this FA stuff.
And TBH, the Men's Rights Movement is actually full of failure. I am very surprised that ED hasn't done an article on it. They've done articles on Roosh V. and others but not the MRM itself.
Anyway, I'll try to be more rational when discussing men's issues. When they do exist at least.
Maybe I got carried away when I finally delved into the Manosphere and simultaneously discovered that a good percentage of ED's more recent articles are feminism-related with no recent articles relating to the men's movement. And that /v/ should probably be called /mra/ now considering that so many of its vidja discussions are more about how feminism is evil and GLOURIOUS NIPPON should be worshiped because "feminism has no power there" as one /v/irgin said.
Also, if other staff members were reprimanded for wrongs they committed, it was likely because there was enough evidence to prove that they did indeed do something wrong. In the case of Zaush, all we have is a ton of unverified rumors and no hard evidence or police reports.
Broooooo! Go check the ED FA article man, we goooot everythang.
Total boner killer.
I heard that the reason she didn't bring it to the police was because it didn't count as rape to be coerced into sex.
Also, how do we know that if FA dies and Weasyl becomes king, that Weasyl won't become corrupt?
If Weasyl becomes corrupt, then that's weasyl's fault lol.
I personally think FA is ultimately doing Weasyl a favor by preventing it from becoming #1 and its staff getting drunk with power.
And even more so, DA sucks even more than FA.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_assault
Educate yourself.
While acknowledging that everyone's story and experience is different, here is an article from a survivor of sexual assault (big trigger warning for graphic descriptions of assault and mistreatment by the police) that gives good perspective of what it is like to report a sexual assault in our current system: http://freethoughtblogs.com/almostd.....ion-statistic/
It really makes me upset to see not only that so many feel the need to rush to the side and aid of an assaulter, but also the sites neglect to address this as a real issue thereby perpetuating the idea that it's "no big deal".
now... seriously? That sounds like the usual misogynistic male argument.
Seriously, I'd love to see how ANY PERSON, you included, would handle being sexually harassed or abused and having to deal with the leaderships of a group you are part of AND FOND OF defending the perpetrator of the act, the person that violated your right to personal safety and integrity.
Anyway, I had enough of the rape-culture that is being defended repeatedly (The "stick your dick in crazy" comment is the cherry atop the shitcake)
I'll be one of those who'll be laughing when shit goes down in flames.
What it saddens me is that people who had the chance to show moral fiber and DO THE RIGHT THING chose to do the convenient thing and go the hush-hush, nothing happened route.
I love the few good people this community has, and when they start to leave en masse and criticize the same points and facts over and over, there MUST be something wrong.
Enjoy you placebo, I'm leaving this sample of 1984.
Think teenage girl being pressured to make false rape charges by her parents, who just found out she had sex with her boyfriend. The alternative being thrown out of the house and being disowned.
All I am saying here is: The number of false rape allegations is so incredibly small (~1%) compared to the astronomical number of rapes that don't even lead to criminal investigations / convictions.
But good job jumping down my throat, possibly without even reading the whole post.
The sad thing is that instead of addressing the current problems of trust on the mod team, charges and accusations against a few members and taking a REAL stance against the rape-culture they seem to be endorsing and try to turn this issue around, they seem to ignore the elephant in the room entirely, act like there is nothing wrong going on, shush every user that claims differently and try to hide the dirt under the rug and divert attention to the new shiny layout/whatever...
If they actually addressed the issue when it arose back then, instead of screaming "not our problem" and shunning anyone who said differently.
Bad things happen when good people choose to do nothing.
No
i'm done
fuck this site
Fuck that bullshit, fuck you for even suggesting such thing, fuck everything. Fuck mcfuckityfuckfuck FUCK
KUCF FUK
done
bye
I would be more surprised if it's never happened.
Of coarse I'm not saying every rape victim is lying that would be insane.
That's horrible, that makes them horrible persons and I hope they get thrown down a cliff with a rabid honey badger tied to their private parts.
I will never deny such thing, because that would be totally unfair and idealistic.
There are monsters out there capable to do so. Male or female.
Since males aren't free from being raped (And the fact that people sometimes deny such thing is sad)
Still, I understand why people would assume such thing...It's more easy than maybe questioning it, or researching about it, or maybe even be neutral on it and ask which part is right.
Takes time to do so, and it's understandable.
The same way is understandable that some people find the assumption that women lie about being raped seriously damn outdated, sexist, unfair, demeaning, AND a way to shame the victim if it results its true.
"You are lying, that didn't happen" or "You're just a resentful bitch!".
That's an awful thing to say, specially when you don't know if what they say is true or not.
If its false, whoa you were right in that case.
If its true, whoa, you're a freaking douche. D:
can you really not see how this is maybe a bad thing to do, and maybe gives other popular people free reign to do terrible things later, because the masses will always doubt the victims
even if she were lying, the way zaush responded (with a flippant "ha ha, those silly women" and zero sense of the severity of the situation) was still absolutely disgusting
What evidence do we have of this happening aside from FA notes?
No police reports, no nothing.
I'm not denying that Zaush is probably a huge creeper. But we just don't have any evidence that would hold up in a court of law.
Besides, didn't this happen several years ago anyway? It only now comes up because you guys are throwing a hissyfit at what isn't even the final design of the website?
you may have noticed that this is not a court of law; this is a website. dragoneer is free to make whatever staff choices he wants without asking a judge for permission. and he chose to bring a known extremely creepy person on board.
which is, of course, why this has come up again. (do horrible acts expire? do we just stop caring after five weeks, or what?) it has nothing to do with the design and everything to do with a great deal of power being put in the hands of a creepy individual who is making a lot of people uncomfortable.
Going to the police when you're the victim of a crime? What a novel concept!
here is a cool story for you. tl;dr a famous sexologist accompanied a friend to report sexual assault and the cops did not give half a damn http://sexologist.tumblr.com/post/6.....on-to-report-a
much like you are not giving half a damn
we are 0 for 2 already
oh wait sorry you were talking about the story i linked
here is a different one that's not about rape but that i like anyway. it is about social consequences and how they are different from legal consequences. http://www.popehat.com/2013/09/10/s.....-consequences/
it honestly baffles me that you find it so easy to say "just go to the police", like this would not occur to someone. like someone might not have a compelling reason to not go to the police in a particular circumstance. frankly i avoid them at all costs, and you should too.
And yes, why wouldn't a victim of a crime go to the police? When I got mugged when I was 13, I went to the police. And as far as I know, these women weren't even physically attacked; they were coerced, if that is true. Maybe they didn't go to the police because they knew their story wouldn't hold water except among a furries, a group known for eating up drama like they eat horsecock.
It seems like they took "creep" and turned it into "rapist."
I am by no means condoning what he did. But I am saying that to take that and extrapolate that he's an actual rapist, is just insane like some kind of furry McCarthyism.
she didn't post anything in public, the details were only uncovered due to the note leak
And I'm starting to think that the reason she didn't go to the police but instead went to the furry fandom is because the police would've (possibly rightfully) laughed her out of the station for wasting their time but furries eat drama like horsecocks.
And from what I've seen here, many furries are unfortunately feminists instead of egalitarians and skeptics.
she didn't "go to the furry fandom", because she didn't post anything in public
take your fucking fedora out of your eyes and actually read
So why didn't she post it to the public if she felt she was raped? Why didn't she go to the police?
Maybe you should think about that before you start white-knighting them without proper proof.
She didn't call it rape, in contrast to the imaginary MRA scenario of false rape accusations flying about everywhere, in truth a lot of rape goes unreported, in part because rape victims do not always define what has happened to them as rape, because of rape culture. If you took a skeptical view of the bullshit you get fed from MRAs you would find this stuff out for yourself. Instead you have allowed the worst of Tumblr to define feminism for you and reacted against that. As much as you would like to think you are an intellectual revolutionary, you are actually a reactionary.
I am also not white-knighting. I never said that I knew what happened, or that I was taking sides. I can't know for sure what happened. What I was saying is that to portray a private message that didn't even use the word rape, as a public accusation of rape, and as such discount it, is not a reflection of what happened at all. Dismiss what happened however you like, but since the word rape wasn't used, and since the person in question was convinced by Dragoneer to keep it quiet, 'revenge rape claim' is not likely.
Furries are just too busy taking their word for granted. And yes, this went unreported possibly because it's bullshit. There is nothing they can charge him with, so they just let the feminist trolls in the furry fandom go on a witch hunt against this person without getting the facts first.
God, I thought the fandom was better than this. But it's infected by the cancer of modern Tumblr feminism.
We need more facts before we call Zaush a rapist.
I actually really like the look of the new site. I imagine that's just a mock-up, but if it ends up looking like that screenshot, I'll be quite happy. :)
While there are a lot of features that people are going to ask for, don't be afraid to let some of them go: People use FA over the competition because it is a simple, easy-to-use site. It's not overly complicated. There are some UI hiccoughs that people have gotten used to, but while not everyone will like the changes you make, they'll get used to them.
With that out of the way though, I want to give everyone working on this project a huge hug, and if I lived nearer I'd bring you all cookies. I've been with FA for a long time through various usernames and phases of the fandom, and an overhaul is long overdue. I expect I'll remain with you all for a lot longer.
*hugs and cookies*
ALL HEIL PROJECT PHOENIX.
But I do need to mention the already beaten to death idea of folders. Many of you are ok without them. But a lot of us could personally use them. Just having the option would be a boon to the site, and those who don't need them don't have to use them. Some of us would like to have one account but have our mature work separated. Maybe just to separate the kind or quality of work. Hell, even watchers who regularly commission folks may want to feature their art by the artists they commission most often.
There will PROBABLY be a beta in the future, when/if* it gets closer to completion.
* I HAVE to say "if" knowing the history of this site, but I do hope it is a case of "when" :3
But no one cares so...
Woah now, i may not like the guy but I would never-
a note and let him know they're interested.
[/url] Oh. Well Kyle, I believe we both know where it would end up.

Say goodbye to your rape and BDSM porn. Adios to your harem scenes because cultural appropriation. So long to fat porn because fetishizing fatness. Of course, no more sexy women and fembois dressed up in sexy video game outfits because they apparently promote a bad image of women or something. Oh, and no more cross-dressing because that's also apparently appropriation of... female culture?
Let's just hope that the feminazis who claim that all penis-in-vagina (PIV) sex is rape don't gain power as well.
Furry fandom, you were good while it lasted. Now the SJWs are starting to claim another victim to their racist and sexist agenda.
Instead of focusing on the site, which may or may not end up shitty, implying this actually goes through, we focus on a purported "rape" with no legitimate evidence (i.e. police reports) that happened several years ago. I'm not saying that Zaush is innocent. I'm just saying not to go on a witch hunt every time a woman screams "RAPE!" This rape might've happened and Zaush would then deserve whatever punishment his legal jurisdiction can give him. Or it might be yet another false accusation of rape just like the Duke Lacrosse Case. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duke_lacrosse_case
(jeez)
oh my god
I am sure that combination of attributes will work out well for you
Like this guy. https://www.youtube.com/user/integralmath
Oh, and you should watch this. http://www.avoiceformalestudents.co.....-heterophobia/
Most sites have them. ( www.sofurry.com , www.deviantart.com , the new www.weasyl.com , etc.... )
Gallery folders are good for the overview.
I like them.
Also, I know it's been brought up a bajillion times, but PLEASE... let us delete multiple items at a time (our own submissions and journals). Having to go through a huge list around 6-7 years long of journals, deleting them one at a time... it's just so painful! Why is there no check-box deleting like the notifications section for journals and submissions (from other people you're watching).
I don't care much about the layout... I like the site design as it is... but please, resolve those two minor issues!
But I wonder; why change the design when you can't even get of the virus on your adds? =P

I poked one of our technical staff about this. It appears to be a false positive based on how some of the advertisements work. We'll review it and see if there's a way we can resolve this issue. You can also check Google's safe browsing portal for some additional information.
Or is this going to be like Youtube all over again
(please ban me)
And offering a "quitter's remorse" period of 30 days or whatever between "deletion" and actual purging I personally, at least, think is a pretty good idea. Far too often people make that kind of decisions in the heat of the moment.
There's plenty of sites that let you delete your account altogether and it does not simply hide the account.

replies go here without going bye bye
Even works with deleted accounts.
I'm hoping we can look into a way to improve this as we move forward with the rewrite, it gives us the opportunity to make a lot of smart decisions about the database organization that just weren't there before. :D
Would there be any way to make it so if users don't like new layout, they could switch back to the old FA?
or that page profiles don't change too much.
i REALLY like the information thing at the top of the page like it is now. the full name n stuff on the left, and the stats on the right.
but yea, i really like this site because it's super easy on my compy, whereas da takes about a minute to load. PER PAGE.
People wanted a new layout, they complain because FA staff "doesn't' deliver promises fast enough."
Now the new layout is coming closer to life, and people complain that it's "TOO MODERN, TOO BUSY, BLAH BLAH." NEVER SATISFIED, despite this site being a free website.
Then onto Zaush, all this nonsense about rape and what not, merely can be false accusations. Whenever it comes to the part "women lying about it," that possibility is somehow automatically dismissed by the community because: OH MY, WHO WOULD LIE ABOUT RAPE? Who would lie about not killing someone, or stealing, or cheating, or anything of crime?
All of these people should read "To Kill a Mocking Bird" by Harper Lee and open their eyes to reality.
Multiple other girls came forward to say that Zaush tried the exact same thing with them. The girl never actually said he raped her, but made it very apparent that he guilt tripped, manipulated, and skeazed to get what he wanted in the end. It was the community that labeled it as rape once the notes had been leaked without her having anything to do with it. You wanna lay the blame on someone for spilling these accusations out into the air? Blame Dragoneer for never deleting his notes, or for running a website with such bad security that all those notes were leaked in the first place.
I love how your first thought is more how she must be lying instead of how perhaps Zaush isn't some poster boy who should be given control of recoding FA because he obviously doesn't play nice with others and has an obviously colorful reputation amongst FA's community. Oh well, amirite? Suck it up ladies of FA! Your back end is about to be coded by a possible creep whether you like it or not!
Also, double lol:
"Zaush shouldn't be trusted because he possible raped someone!" Comment hidden, user suspended.
"Zaush should be trusted because WOMEN LIE and I'm going to imply his "victim" was just lying too!" A personal comment from the new PR guy. Comment stays.
Obviously Zaush must be doing something right to probably be the most controversial artist on this site and STILL have anything to do with this site... If the community really didn't like and/or care for him, then he wouldn't be where he is at now. Haha but then again, what do I know? I'm just some random person that is surely sucking up to Zaush because he draws PORN and is one of the most popular artists on the site!! /sarc
I'm not going to be like everyone else in this so called "community" and put people down over something that happened several years ago that isn't even 100% proven to not be altered or simply just animosity. Let's think of this as a conspiracy. The "evidence" could have been twisted just to make it "interesting." For an example. Notes, Tweets, whatever else people supposedly screenshot or copied from supposed hack (whatever you want to call it) to try and prove their point means nothing as of course, you can believe everything you see and hear on the internet. From the looks of things, all I see is a bunch of users with potty mouths that are filled with much spite and negativity, showing no mercy towards others.
I can almost guess what you will reply back to me with, some sort of denial and/or disregard to anything I said. I sometimes wonder why I even bother trying to enlighten people.
So yeah, keep tugging on that blame-the-victim theory. I've done nothing but come at this objectively and correct the numerous users that have rushed to Zaush's defense, wagging their fingers at all us "haters" because we think his behavior was unbecoming of anything that should be allowed to recode the site from the ground up. Users that think it's just oh so horrible that we'd dredge up something from several years ago about him, while simultaneously implying that the girl he quite-probably manipulated into having sex with him is just a lying attention whore. Stay classy.
And if you really don't think popularity talks, then you're looking at the furry fandom with some rose-tinted glasses pal.
There are people that just want to watch the world burn, but there are people out there that find what he did to be too important to just sweep under the rug and pretend like it didn't happen. If you want to say it's all doctored to make him look the worst that he can, then you're free to do so. But remember it's a two way street.
Heck even look at that case with Justin Bieber and that girl that tried to accuse him of rape and claim he was the father of her baby. Was a straight up lie.
Believe me, I know there are people out there wanting to watch the world burn, I've had my own personal experience of that fyi so you can't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. There are LIARS out there and you better believe it. It's sad that everyone is quick to judge someone over something they weren't even involved in to begin with.
Gossip and such is one thing, but why people are saying Zaush isn't qualified or capable of doing a job because of something that happened OFF site that had nothing to do with his credentials is totally beyond me.
even if he has a shitty track record, he's obviously still grinding away at something he wants to do (despite all the constant push back and negativity). So mad respect to this guy at all for taking on something like this when i'm sure he is more than aware of his own reputation.
making mistakes is part of being human. and i'm sure the people running this site could easily just give up, flip the switch and walk.
but here they are trying again what they have attempted(apparently many times before) and they do it fully prepared for the punishment that everyone has to offer.
i will now return to my hole where i know not the names of people or grammar and just hope for the best ^.^
I haven't really needed it at to this point but it's a nice option to have, some of us do make personal posts we'd rather not have input on.
Just my two sense!
;-;
We'll be able to outline it a bit more in the updates that we post in the future.
And then they bring in a popufur with a shitstorm of drama already surrounding him to do this project instead of just getting their shit together with the 'unofficial' rebuild that was happening a few months ago. There might have been a lack of communication from both sides on that, but it's still the site owner's responsibility to follow up on things, not just forget about them and then restart it yet again with new people.
So yet another redesign is promised, with someone a lot of people don't trust at the helm. Same old shit, in other words. As it stands I and many others have no reason to believe this will ever go past this journal.
Zaush's drama has no bearing on his suitability for the job as a developer.
Updates? I never needed updates to just USE FA.
To me Zaush isn't really a problem, he's just a symptom of gross mismanagement.
Though as far as his credentials... if you believe the take from the 2013 rebuild team, Zaush doesn't really know what he's doing, completely undermined the code the rebuild team had going due to an insistence that PHP was no good(???) and was a total jerk to the three members of the rebuild team - condescending and egotistical just about sums up the way ben anderson described how he and myr were treated. Not sure about the other person on the team cuz they didn't pipe up in that now-gone thread.
Anyway, that is all well and good, but really the issue here is much more than Zaush, it's the fact that FA is run like a chaotic, run-down circus. It's a marvel - and says a LOT about the prominent sort of people in the community I think - that such a laughably built and managed site is considered by many to be -THE HUB OF FURRY-.
Matters of the ego - popufur drama, power grab drama of any sort - really bewilder me. They feel very foreign. This is more a general musing than something I mean to be a serious contribution to discussion... just does my head in trying to accommodate a mindset where doing some of this stuff seems like the right thing.
Here's the help page that says "summer 2011" for anyone doubting the above: http://help.furaffinity.net/article.....he-New-UI.html
we're getting a sofurry inkbunny baby in this UI design?
i'm a web programmer, and to me they look rather similar. how is this going to be "better" than the other two.
how is this going to make me want to come back to FA.
BTW i left due to harrassment of my character that was never acted on. just sayin.
Even if you don't consider his behavior rape (I'm not going to try and argue with you if you don't) it is at the very least creepy and manipulative, and gives female users legitimate discomfort about him potentially having access to personal information in their private messages.
His skillset is neither rare nor hard to come by in this community, so just...why? Seriously?
I don't feel safe.
This site makes me sick. I feel unsafe here, and fear for people. You cannot tell me he will not have access to information.
Yet, all of these comments will be banned, so what's the point.
They had to know the shitfest that would come about appointing him to this position. Even if they thought he was completely innocent and the whole thing was just terrible rumor, why in the world would you put him at the head of a site redesign? And then write off all concern people have about him being in this level of power while tossing out bans and hiding comments left and right? Fuckin sleazy.
Short version: even if he's not a rapist, based on his own own admissions he's at the very least a creep who uses emotional blackmail to get what he wants from women. Women, understandably, feel uncomfortable with such a person being put in a position of trust. There's nothing he can do that many other people can't. His skill set is not rare or particularly distinguished; FA has had dozens of developers with equal or superior experience and ability volunteer their time. There's no functional benefit in choosing him over the other options, but a lot of user-based liability. FA would be wise to just backtrack and give the project to another developer (looking at the previews, this is very basic work that any halfway-decent one would be able to take over)
If you're in marketing, this should make sense to you. FA made a lousy personnel decision that upsets a significant portion of their users for valid reason, and offers the site itself no real benefit. They'd be wise to just "mea culpa" and backtrack it, but I doubt that'd happen...it would be too professional, lol.
The skills of a good programmer are, actually, somewhat rare in the context that Fur Affinity needs to look. Yes, there are plenty of individuals who are well-meaning who wish to help with the project, but unfortunately much of the time their skillset doesn't match what we're looking for at this particular time. Many others who are proficient at the skill set we need cannot afford to volunteer their time. And yet others would like to volunteer their time, but push come to shove would find that they didn't have as much time as they had hoped. Of course, all of these are understandable situations.
His skill set is not nearly as lax as many seem to have assumed. And I would hope that the community would give him the opportunity to demonstrate his abilities prior to crucifying him for alleged actions in his past.
I am not assuming his skillset is "lax" per se - but looking at the previews of the site, this is not a terribly difficult project in development terms. It absolutely wouldn't be impossible to find a different team lead who can execute this, if you were motivated to do so. Volunteer teams have executed projects far more intricate.
I do understand that Dragoneer is personal friends with this individual and feels he can trust him to carry through on the project, but personal friendship really shouldn't trump the experience of such a large portion of your user base, especially when his skill set is hardly singular. Like I said, it's a bad marketing decision - especially for a site that has the volume of administrative "transparency and trust" (quoted from the original post) that FA has. The professional thing would be to replace him and move forward, but like I said...I'm not exactly holding my breath over here.
Notice, I'm not trying to persuade anybody to defect to "cub porn central." I am saying that it could (possibly) be easier and faster to switch to their software than to re-write the current software from scratch.
One: FA may be out of date but at least it is airy and not over crowded, and from the image, it all looks way too compact.
Two: thing is, in building this site from the ground up, will FA still be using BB codes, or in order to add new features and like, will require switching over to html codes like DA does?
Three: will comments be editable like SF does or IB already have?
Four: Folders, Oh gosh please let there be a folders and subfolder option for art and faveorites etc.
Five: Personalization of home page if possible, this including adding our own banner and aybe to your viewing of the site as a whole.
six: Will images be able to be uploaded in a file size bigger than a max of 1280px by 1280px? In addition to this, expanded upload range of video, audio and story readable formats.
Seven: Pages, regardless of comments on images to the profile to the page to the Comments, Journals, Faves, Watches make all these forms have pages. Take a note from DA on this one it is better to have pages, than have to scroll to the bottom 400 comments on a particular image or like THIS JOURNAL HERE; IT SUCKS!
Eight: Stacks and Wigets, both for personalizations and for organization like when it comes to Images, Journals Watches, Fave stacks, like DA, and also a reason to ask if if this FA beta will be in BB or in html coding style along with CSS.
Nine: Groups, as it is now, it is just a user account designated as such how is that going to change? Almost any site newer than FA has at least a manageable group setup.
Ten: Will Journal be able to be faved like images in this update?
Now I know these will be implemented in stages, but I just thought I get my ideas out there so maybe thy get built into the system. This hoping FA Project Phoenix will not just become this years April fools joke.
But hey, I like it!
ps: my response to the drama http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvutrQoIAEM
Doesn't that mean that the contents on this site will be formatted?
Stronger. Faster. Better.
Asking for advice and help is an intelligent solution. One person cannot know the best thing to do in every situation, as in software, you tend to specialize. A generalist never becomes good at anything in particular.
Also, remember this: It is better to be a fool in the council of wise, than wise in the council of fools.
Stackoverflow rules.
Time Spent in software fields to not equate to experience.
New technologies can be learned quickly by experienced developers.
Ideas used in one technology easily apply to others which share many similarities.
Algorithms are sequences of steps that solve problems. These are universal.
That prototype UI does not look like garbage; it is put together with intelligent design and seems to have pixel-perfect alignment. They know their CSS styling techniques.
Now perhaps hasn't dealt with some engineering challenges. You may see a lot in the programming field, but you never see it all. Every day can bring a new challenge. Asking for advice is wise, but you can be certain he'll weigh the advice against the other advice and the problem, and form a consensus.
Hardware and budget can tie a developer's hands. Perhaps there might be a better way to engineer a solution, but a developer has to work within their hardware and budget constraints. Developers try to look for the solution to a problem that minimizes the time they need to work on it, the cost in hardware, and they engineer around bottlenecks if they can. Work smarter, not harder.
--Message from the front line of software.
I'd do wish that this would have drag-and drop submissions and folders like in DA and SF.
But this has potential. Please, keep it up.
1. This sight is FREE to everyone who signs up
2. Look towards the future not the past
3. Drop it
4. If your leaving just leave don't make a spectacle over it. Many don't really care, If I was you i would take time off from FA and come back after this wave of drama is over. Cant you tell this is my first taste of drama from here xD
5. Leave it alone
6. Time for a new day, new state of mind.
1) The site is free for YOU. There have been people donating money, up to the hundreds or even thousands of dollars (some even whole servers) to keep the site running. And free site useage doesn't mean trading in standards for a website. deviantArt, Weasyl, SoFurry, and Inkbunny all have better features and handling compared to FA. FA is behind the times.
2) If you don't learn from the past, you have no future.
3) Don't tell others to drop what you haven't even carried.
4) People may announce they are leaving just as they please.
5) [insert "LEAVE BRITTNEY ALONE!" joke]
6) Again, without knowing of the past and reflecting on it, you will not learn.
You REALLY haven't been here long enough nor have bothered to look around to see what the fuss is. You are so far out of the loop, it is just a dot to you.
Me I love FA, haven't found anything much like it..../ Its not my business what happened and it shouldn't be anyone else's but his. But thanks to the good old internet it has become other peoples business. / So much drama, and this is my first taste xD. I would like to welcome myself to the fandom.
Thank you for contributing to the fandom rot~
Secondly, just because something is "free" does not mean you should enjoy it. It's kind of like a free sample. If someone disliked it, you (probably) wouldn't say "well, just shut up and enjoy the food."
> doesn't understand where the revenue to keep the site going comes from
Ya dingus, who do you think pays FA's bills? This site remains afloat purely on donations - remove the thousands of users who shovel dollars into the site every month, and this site would collapse. It would cease to operate.
Do you think that FA's server rack operates from a shed in Dragoneer's back yard? Because, although the day-to-day running of the site may suggest that, the website is actually hosted reasonably professionally at InfoRelay, in Virginia. That shit costs money, and who do you think supplies those seemlingly infinite resources?
's right, chuck. You and me. The average fur-pleb. And don't even get me started on how those finances are grossly mismanaged - I'm saving that for a later discussion. Regardless, if you think that FA is a truly cost-free socialist bastion of fur smut, think the fuck again, bro.
I really hate it when a artist has a temper tantrum and permanently destroys years worth of artwork
if the artist wants to leave FA, fine. but they should keep their art intact and online!
Save the art to your computer if you like it.
But otherwise, it's all free game. If they don't feel comfortable with their artwork being on a site, then they have every right to take it down.
you know what i am happy when this become True or not
FA is shutting down.
END OF FURRY EXISTENCE AS WE KNOW IT.
DRAGONEER WHAT WILL WE EVER DO.
-shrivels-
Why's everyone leavin all of a sudden anyways?
Get a Paypal already.
Now for some random randomness: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5426180/
Now I forgot what I was going to say.
They started out small like this site and they're further ahead as an art site, but then again, this is a porn website, given the categorization. It would be great if you guys responded more often or actually grew your adminbase congruent to required resources for the site that knew how to actively work and not insult some users behind their back. I actually met a user that experienced that and they left the site because of it. When you're a moderator, you're a representative and should have some humility.
tl;dr: The site team looks like a nepotism on crack, people are gonna whine anyway, but everyone knows this just is a fetish site to sell porn (minus CP). Why else would the site be so popular?
People volunteer all the time, but the site team doesn't respond for five years to say they found some other random guy that someone knows.
Oh by the way, what happened with all of those who applied to be moderators? You know, that journal posted 3 months ago?
However, how many of them became mods is a bit beyond me, but I am assuming it wasn't enough.
Funny thing, I suggested directly to Dragoneer how to assist on getting rid of other images against rules that you could simply just search keywords for. Those images are still up 2 years later after the note I sent. Effort? What's that?
2. Multiple selections for deleting your submitted art work.
3. Able to delete comments on pictures instead of just hiding them.
4. Able to change your name
5. Keep it simple. I love FA because of its simplicity. I always hate going to art sites and it being so damn complicated to just simply upload an artwork!
6. Able to upload more than one picture! Like a picture series or something!
ell oh ell
a careful judgment in which you give your opinion about the good and bad parts of something (such as a piece of writing or a work of art -merriam-webster
Just saying something is bad isn't critique.
it's just not constructive
lol
AND I WON'T STOP
BBcode can still be used if desired :P
A "cheat sheet" should be implemented in the comment boxes or whereever.
Thanks for reading
Not that it'd make much sense to be in the site news, but still.
All I'll say on the current issues is this: just...bad decisions were made, FA. Please go back and try again, but this time, with less punishing your users for making negative comments about someone that you technically brought upon yourselves with your risky choices, and with more taking into account what the people who make this site popular want. You can't regain the trust of your users by standing on a pedestal looking down on them.
Also, I agree, gallery folders would be nice. And that mock-up design looks a bit too professional for an art site.
It's the note-template we see on there. And i think it looks good. Not too fancy.
But I would love to see a mockup for the Profile-Page and the message center. These the most important things after all.
There.
It has been commented on.
Regardless, let's look at this from an objective point of view:
- The staff's cherry-picked based on nepotism, instead of actual administrative talent
- Finances (read: user donations) are either poorly managed or outright embezzled
- Not a single one of the staff knows the true meaning of transparency
- Staff are taught from day one to block, hide and/or suspend negative critique rather than actually engender accountability and discussion (Sciggles I'm looking at you here)
- The site itself is woefully under-maintained and the few technicians on board would prefer to fix the issue with gum and spit
- Your data is still most certainly not safe
- Despite overwhelmingly negative criticism regarding the staff's most recent acquisition, no action is being taken
It's honestly as if FA wants to burn. At this point it's practically a parody of itself, and Dragoneer's the incompetent director of the whole show.
Thanks for a giggle, guys. It's been rad.
Also some wishes;
- Please keep it simple. >_> Most of us don't need fancy shet to use this site.
- Easier way to delete pictures from your gallery
- Multiple delete, pleeeease.
- Customs & customization for our account pages :3c
Also people complaining about Zaush past, whether it is true or not - what does it have to do with the site coding?
-mreows-
- Knows pretty much squat about the language he's proposing to code in
- Ousted the previous team members (all with professional experience, mind) due to ego
- Brought his friends in to help him (see first point) rather than keep the professionals on the team
Zaush isn't even doing anything major. He's overhauling the UI, which is something anybody with a reasonable amount of talent could do. What the site needs is for a team to rebuild the site, from the database up - what we're getting is a lick of paint and maybe a few parts changed out, when in reality we need an entirely new car. A shiny UI does not a better site make.
The same base problems are still going to exist. FA will still tank phenomenally on a regular basis, just as it always has and will, and within a year or so of this 'upgrade' being introduced, people are going to see it all fall apart and exposed for the poor effort it really is. I mean, for Christ's sake, the site's almost ten years old and we only just sorted out session log clearing - something even basic sites have covered.
Jump off the apathy bandwagon and get yourself educated. Zaush doesn't deserve to be on this project, for more reasons than just the obvious. Far more talented, far more deserving people have been sideshowed off just so a popfur can have another bit of limelight, and that's disgusting.
To reach this goal, we will be rewriting Fur Affinity from the ground up. Codenamed Project Phoenix, we’re able to take full advantage of new technologies that have emerged since Fur Affinity's birth, ensuring the site is easily maintained and extended upon for years to come.
You are welcome to disagree with the choices for devs for the rebuild, you are welcome to question any of the devs' credentials, but this particular fact you seem to be misinformed on. This is a rebuild, though a new UI will be part of the end product.
Such as? What are there credentials (resumés will suffice)?
if just linking to a forum post gets me in trouble, I swear to god.
What skills do these people have?
What do they know of scalable solutions?
What sort of systems have they implemented on comparable scales?
I don't see anything like that, all I see is some drama arguments and he-said, she-said non-sense.
I received zero useful information to make an assessment from BenAnderson's posts on how skilled/talented he is and what about his background makes him really more 'deserving'.
It sounds like I'm walking on egg shells now. Not interested in upsetting someone uninvolved in the conversation to verify your point.
I am going to just assume your point is neither correct or wrong on it's own due to lack of information.
Doesn't tell me anything, please stop being unspecific about experience, you're starting to piss me off.
> that's far more than anything Zaush has done in terms of real-world applications
Those aren't applications, those are companies. Again:
What skills do these people have?
What do they know of scalable solutions?
What sort of systems have they implemented on comparable scales?
"Hewlett-Packard and British Airways" answers none of these questions.
> Frankly, I'd prefer to select somebody with actual experience in the field over somebody that draws dog dick for a living
Odd, I guess my information is flawed. I thought Zaush had a day job that didn't involve furry art at all?
Oh, look at that! I made somebody's day that little bit less bearable! I feel accomplished now. Now, why don't you run off like a good little boy and suckle on some fur-dick while ignoring every reasonable rebuttal people make against your lack of intellect?
Look in the mirror.
He said he doesn't want to discuss it. Considering he wasn't a party to the conversation and he was being name dropped, I can understand not wanting to be involved. If the situation were reversed, I probably wouldn't either. I already felt weird having to contact the guy directly over a discussion thread because the original poster would not provide the information himself.
> I think your actually just afraid that you will get the answers that you don't want to hear.
Since you've brought me back to this thread, I now think about it again and begin to think that if it was so clear and obvious, it wouldn't have been much to provide a reasonable source on the fly instead of requiring a one-to-one session with someone who was being name dropped. Considering the most relevant thread I was given actually showed little to nothing, I suspect an assessment of the calibre of reviewing someone based off their skills, experience was not actually performed by the original poster of this argument.
Peace out.
Second, he's not bringing "friends" onto the team. He's bringing on individuals with professional experience, like I have experience marketing web properties and the other developer has a great deal of experience in his field as well.
And, as we stated in the article, we *are* rebuilding the site from the ground up. We're completely reworking the backend as well as making improvements to the frontend.
Frankly, I don't give a toss what accusations have been levelled about the guy. Zaush has been shown to have fuck-all experience where it counts, and next to nobody wants him in any way involved with this project. Furthermore, your comment about designing the site from the ground-up is complete fiction - I know for a fact that you lot won't be touching the server architecture, which is where the main issues with the site have been found to lie. You don't want that guy touching the server architecture, by the way - may as well let him chew on live electricity cables, for all the good sense in that idea.
I appreciate what you're trying to do here, but believe me - most people aren't going to be drawn in by flashy lights and fancy words. I certainly am not - I know more than enough to know that you're working in a redundant code, aiming to produce results that will be no more secure or streamlined than what's currently on offer. For Christ's sake, if FA can still be having issues with purging user sessions nine years after its conception, what makes you think I have any faith for an unproven team whose only 'proof' are the discarded tatters of a previous (and much-ridiculed) attempt and a concept of the page style?
Get in gear, bring back Ben and his team, and if Zaush is going to be involved in this project, relegate him to GUI design where he belongs, not heading the project because his ego needed some petting?
This x 1000.
Why would you give creative control to him with his reputation (not even including the whole rape debate) and the increasingly mounting evidence that he doesn't know as much as he claims he does and that he's lied about his credentials before? Ben and his team obviously knew what they were doing, and had the balls rolling already. Why in the world does Zaush need to be on this project at all? Or in the very least, why does he need to be in the captain's chair?
Not all of us are drawn in by the pretty shinies.
I'm mostly unsure about the decisions made behind the development of the new website, but it looks like if it could be reformed with ease. Speaking from experience, if a syntax (language) or api (tool) is easy to learn, then people are able to practice techniques or test out certain theories quickly (like optimization). It's the reason why game developers discourage newcomers from starting with c++. The syntax isn't too difficult to learn, but it takes longer to put your theories/techniques into practice because you other factors to focus on; like memory management, memory leaks, debugging, etc. It's frankly a headache without the assistance of apis.
From what I've heard, web development is significantly easier and versatile now, there's a ton of apis for multiple languages, C#, python, lua, etc. There's also numerous resources that talk about theory/techniques behind them. He'll probably take advantage of those.
Don't even fucking ask why.
I tried testing it out with C++ a year ago, I was able to create certain types of pages, add text, and load Javascript files. It wasn't too difficult though, I just used the default reading and writing functions.
BenAnderson and I had settled on doing the recode in PHP. I wanted to do things in Java/JSP/JSF for performance reasons, but Ben made a good point that PHP is more known and therefore easier for people to support once we're gone (long term perspective). I was working on a back-end database and access to it and he was working on the front-end UI and handling of data. We were observing MVC architecture and intended to meet in the middle at the controller. We wanted to build a better FA with new features. It seemed we had complementary skills and were doing things publicly in the forums. You could actually see our front and back designs.
Zaush was pushing NodeJS and doing the site in Javascript (completely different from Java/JSP/JSF that I advocated). He wanted a new coat of paint on the site with a different codebase on top of the same old database. He seemed to have nothing but disdain for any other effort to fix things around here, and compared himself to Steve Jobs such that FA would be an i-device or something to him in terms of priority.
They're only human, we can't blame them for sexually assaulting people!
If you honestly think FA is the best art site, you must be /very/ new to this fandom, or the internet in general for that matter. FA just has the most people, it is by far one of the worst sites.
I did some research for you, just so you could look like an even bigger idiot:
TIAMAT (SEARCH): 4x74Gb HDD
NEO BAHAMUT (BACKUP): 4x1TB HDD
NOVASTORM (DATABASE): 2x74GB HDD
FIGMENT (APPLICATIONS): 4x1TB HDD
SHIVAN: UNUSED
SPARKZ: UNUSED
TONBERRY: UNUSED
LAPSE: UNUSED
TROGDOR: 12Tb
GECKO: UNUSED (actually hosts TF2/L4D servers)
Let's do some maths:
4 x 74Gb = 296Gb
4 x 1Tb = 4Tb
2 x 74 Gb = 148Gb
4 x 1Tb = 4Tb
1 x 12Tb = 12Tb
Total HDD space = 20.4Tb
20Tb =/= 900Tb. Do kindly shut up, learn some hard facts before you start running your mouth, and don't just blindly suck Dragoneer's cock hoping for a promotion. Not going to happen.

Don't make a case unless you have the facts to back it up. It makes you look stupider.
However there's thousands more that use this thing than a few hundred spoiled sports.
This might be a great restart that helps not only improve on the visual and performance side but the fact that you said you wanted "increase transparency and trust for all aspects of the administration". Which honestly I hope is true. Sites like this that have a large community cant be neglected or left in the wrong hands.
My thoughts on the new site is I hope it has more character centered parts to it. Like where we can create a bio for our characters and then them have their own mini gallery either from our own art or other peoples art. Which I think a lot of the people who cant do art and get art done of there character would love to have a character bio page with a gallery of their favorite art drawn of them.
I wont leave the site but hopefully this site become a site everyone can respect, enjoy, and trust again. Good luck to you and I think it can be done.
That computer screen you have is now mine, your fired from using it.
-SUSPENDING INTENSIFIES-
Cause of a rumor that this coder is a sex offender?
WOW some people here are extreemly petty! They haven't been convinced said act, and as a victim of said act I don't take the subject lightly. I checked the list HE ISN'T ON IT!
But frankly what dose any of this have to do with the new design scheme?
Gawd!
I frankly don't see the point behind all the Bull that this journal is getting.
C' mon now people, This person is trying to help better a site you all use for FREE!
If he is a non convicted sex offender, whats he gonna do? Forcibly take the code By the Brackets and shove his e-peen in to it till it stop's moaning =yes and start seaming =no?
We as users of a free site aren't entitled to anything! I personally have seen fa try to change 2 time before and it not go threw but frankly I didn't care, I understood.
With the comments that journal is getting I honestly wouldn't blame you guys at all for not going threw with it.
I know how the masses can really tear down a person when your trying to do what you feel is best.
Don't change the Site for the user's most of us don't deserve it, Change it because you guys want to, You guys run this place and you don't get enough credit for doing so!
~ Frankly It's just llama breeding season. It's cold no one wants to go out side so, they are all online. Place a bunch of horny llamas in a room they will rape each other raw. ~ Nataya Em
If that was true, why would he have Yak who, during the last outage, barely kept in touch with anyone INCLUDING NEER HIMSELF and left as all in the dark? If he was doing what's best why would he keep someone like that on?
You think he'd knowingly hire on Zaush who has such a troubled past in the fandom? yes that's totally best knowing that there were plenty of people who came forward with coding experience during the last outage who are being ignored.
Or he'd put someone in charge of the forums, Chase if I remember right, who again has a majorly troubled past in the fandom.
OR putting his wife as a admin next to him. You don't put a couple in a position of power together, that's asking for a shit storm.
The Chase/Zaush things are PR nightmares in their own right. I doubt that's something 'Neer would do if he really had the site's best intentions in mind.
Based on his past and present, it's obvious he doesn't care and has the mindset of "My site, you don't like it, GTFO."
here's what i think, NEW SITE, NEW USERS, i think They should remove ALL BANS from the
site, and only BAN legitimately (ie BOTS / SPAM / repeated Harassment) and not Superficial
reasons like " she went on a TV show" or " He (allegedy) had sex with minors "
i almost agree with you, if it weren't for the fact that FA admin and even Convention staff
will go out of their way to blacklist the very same type of person who is now designing the site.
anyone who doesn't see it from my perspective is REALLY just BSin' themselves and too busy
ass kissin' to literally see whats going on here.
Hell, might as well bring back Crusader Cat if they are going to late Chase back.
I've been a part of the site before neer even owned it. let's just take a look at how a web site who at max in 2006 only had a handful over 2,000 users now has over 11,000 users active at any given time on the site.
I think neer has done a fairly good job considering the site has such a large fallowing. Obviously you care enough about the site you pay, nothing to use, under the graces Of Neer him self, yet are in disagreement with the person working to help the site based on a rumor.
The point I was getting at is the fact that People here tend to focus more on what the person has supposedly done as apposed to what they really do if you can wrap you brain around that one.
Think of it this way, There is no record of this person actually doing this but word of mouth. Instead of confiding to they cops tell every one that this happened and Yet never get a kit done or file claims.
Am I the only here that finds that odd?
I also have been a victim of sexual assault. I spoke to a "shrink" about it and the profiles that fit said victims.
Normally those to afraid to go to the cops never really speak a word till it's late and then it's to a confident in some one not a whole group of people.
Those who tend to scream out after the act GO to the police. Due to the fact they aren't ashamed to tell complete strangers about the event.
Then you have "Bombs" these are people who have been assaulted then down the line they line they just SNAP! these people tend to seek a comfort zone, a few friends they tell when it happened feeling embarrassed and these friends help them get psychological help and make a report as support if they still can.
This person calling him a "rapist" could be committing a crime. For example click here
As well he can file a civil suit for defamation of character against a person who made a false rape allegation via word of mouth.
Due to him having no sexual predator hits on the sex offenders list he has every right to press charges and with the ridicule he's getting just from this journal alone would have a very strong case.
Your move.
Leaving when it's clear the site direction does not care about what we say, when people start getting suspended left and right and when we've been promised the same change for years without any kind of result
"2014 is a new year for us, and we want to increase transparency and trust for all aspects of the administration." <-Less than a month and this went down the toilet.
Missing or overlooking a submission but glimpsing it as the page vanishes means a long page-by-page attempt to find it; often fruitless.
A way to fave Journals?
A way to fave Icons?
A way to keep the original icons with a submission?
A way to add directly into one's folders without (over)loading the submissions page?
Would need to normal-load a cover page to say folder-load way done.
Do we keep Zaush on the team?
-Yes -No
That's going to be the fairest way to handle this.
Such a lack of perception.
Am I the only here that finds that odd?

GG tho
anyway, whether that story is truth or just a story, it's irrelevant to the fact that the site is poorly run, poorly designed, and very funny to watch in an i-want-to-claw-my-face-off kind of way.
If you choose to believe that 'it's big so it must be good' that's cool, but know that people are gonna call you on that sometimes because it's an overly simplistic view. World is too complex, too many factors to account for. What is good, well made, smart, clever or what have you, is not always going to be what succeeds, because there are far more factors than those at play.
She never went out and told a group of people. She noted dragoneer and if you would have done your research before speaking blindly on it you would have realized the info was leaked when this website was hacked a long time ago.
Dragoneer had told her to keep hush hush and she trusted him ( Blindly ) and didn't go to the police because he said "It wasn't rape in his eyes"
You are only going on what you THINK would have happened instead of focusing on the facts.
My point logically doesn't exclude the possibly she was in fact raped I'm saying, is that there is no report. No legal prof and for the false accusations this chick can have charges pressed on her so accusing him.
Besides Why did this person go to neer? ( owner of a website they use all the time and the accused makes most profit from? that is suspicious in my eyes )
Mostly Why dose it matter this person has a coding position on the staff or not? What happened is purely speculation. With nothing to back it legally or confession wise.
I feel as if it started with a Yes and ended on a no and she for got her "safe word".
That doesn't make it rape, or did you all forget they where dating at some point in time? That there again proves she was consensual with sex with him before hand.
I don't even see why some else personal drama has any effect on you or any one else here! I couldn't understand even if he was the sex offenders list what he gonna do rape the code?. And if this really is because neer said no that's not rape then why are not all screaming at him? He would logical be the person who let the sex offender off by telling the poor victim that no they are wrong when they could have been locked away.
I chose the Your all drama munging, This isn't your business and frankly I see no point any of this bull shit.
The journal motion that he worked on it An you all start the fucking crusade over a rumor.
Hows that for cause and effect?
These comments could possbly be delaying a change fa and most it member have wanted this for years, being a member or nearly 8 years, I think fa would look very nice with a slight make over.
So tell me What gives you or any one esle for that matter to say that this person is a rapist based on hear say and guilty of this act and they deserve this harassment over something ONLY speculated by perceptions?
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/...../#cid:38107918
this is really all i see from Most of the comments on this journal.
Example: Check. Mate.
(Furry mates need not apply.)
It's certainly not ugly, but it definitely needs more work.
-Written from a mobile tablet-
Secondly people don't commission an artist due to the fact they an account on a website people commission artist for the work they do.
I will agree having a large gathering of people makes it easier but frankly I being an artist am Not "stuck here".
I could go any where and build a new "fan base". Honestly I make more offline of FA then i could On fa still doing furry art.
Even if they don't take them immediately, say someone watches someone who leaves... and then another artist they love leaves... then another... and another... it plants the idea that moving might be a pretty good idea because hey, that's how things are flowing.
There is this gross mindset that FA is the furry community. It's just a website. If it went down at midnight tonight and never came back up it would not hurt the fandom one bit. It would affect some individual artists who have an unwise lack of variety in their income stream, but then they'd make tumblr/weasyl/sofurry/inkbunny account(s) and after a bit they'd be fine.
That's why they stick around, even if this site's admins and staff do a terrible job at keeping the largest furry community site alive.
Me, I'm from Encyclodpedia Dramatica, and I dox the drama here, so I'm digging on this for articles.
I took time out of my SUPER EXTREME BUSY SCHEDULE, of jerking off 17 guys online and writing the next porn novel!
To come right here to this journal about new improvements about the website to tell you all how much your website sucks. I use it probably 5 times a day, but It's probably going to be 4 times a day if you all don't feed into my arrogance. Seriously, I VERY IMPORTANT! How dare you not flock to my side and start sucking my dick. My dick is holy.
O.O
WHAAA
You letting a guy who's been accused by all of my friends as a sexual predator code your website. NONONONONONONONONONONO. You can't do that, because.............................................. he did bad things maybe. Seriously that's bad enough, you might as well be letting him be the new owner cause he's coding as a third party.
My dick is still glowing with holyness and still needs sucking. and don't let sexpreds predator the code of FA, because he might maybe be a possible sexual predator again if he hasn't then for the first time.
I have links to this, look yiffy leaks and encyclopedia dramatica. They prove that this guy is what everyone here like me says that he is. A judge in a court of law always belives ED and yiffy leaks over....what... actual evidence. Pffft actual evidence is stupid, everyone knows that there isn't any, but thanks to ED we know da trooth.
I've been waiting since I was born!
Mcdonalds
But I like you! ^,...^
And then prepare for either a lengthy (some might even say eternal) wait for a reply, or even better, to get gotten back to, get on the team, and try to work only to find yourself cock-blocked on everything you try to do.
Fun! :D
In the end starting a whole new site would probably be less headache. xD
Personally, I like FA, and I wish to see it become that powerhouse that all current admins and "coders" do not recognize and are far too short sighted to recognize.
Three minutes after all this were to happen, Dragoneer can say and do as he pleases... but he may as well be that "new" account on FA with a paint bucket and brushes for an icon, cause he wouldn't have a shred of say so to any of it.
I do care about FA, more-so cause I know what this sight is, and I know what furries are. It's not about living vicariously through a self generated creature of your own muse, not about the artwork that floods in like a joyous tide 24/7, not even about the marketability that helps people actually make a living.
It is solely about the principle: "We are here but not over their". What that means is that we all have reasons for sitting at these desks, tens of thousands of us, deciding to be here than anywhere else, and this draws the question, why? My member account here might say that I started in March of 2013, but in reality I have been a furry since I was 12 years old. The reason why, is the same to the highest majority of all other furries, not just on FA, but globally. We are void of family, void of friends, void of a true path, and void of knowing what we are meant to do in our lives. For some, this is a light truth, and that we grasp for that honestly needed bit of comradery, but for others, like myself, we needed this in the beginning and have constructed this fandom into our family, one that we cry to, love to, befriend to, and yes, even bitch to. I understand why, I see that some people need this in there lives to stay alive inside. They need it to better themselves and stay afloat.
This can only happen with a true home, not the sanctimonious construct these admins have turned this world into. They do not know what I see, and they do not know what needs to be done.
The high med and low settings help the prosess but a search feature would be AMAZING!
I approve of this idea and Second the notion!
Because This seen to using a lot of script
FA website target mainly fur and many fur have a low pc power , the best for a good website is low processing power for keep everyone here
ACtually i found fa good just need a total optimization of his code and a better database setup
If i check wikifur i see you using only a server for a dedicate database , you probably need to switch on cloud database using two server , that help to finish each wrting on table and accelerate the research in the db for each request and this prevent a databse faillure and the website going down with that, adding a dns balancing with two server application that help very big
If you guy's can manage Folders of some sort or an easier way making items into a series it would be very helpful to us artist.
As well could we possibly add on to the block feature so that you restrict users from viewing you page at all or only base information?
That could help minimize a lot of drama. You can have it set up so that people can make their journals or submission buddies list only comments, or watchers and buddies only.
Suggestions for the new website.
1. Folders to organize art.
We need folders to be able to organize things like on Weasyl or Deviant art. Example, WIP folder, Adopt folder or just customizable folders.
2. Itunes and Googleplay app.
So it'll be easier for us to access furaffinity, upload things ect.
3. Better search engines.
So we can sort through our notes, favorites and stuff easier.
5. Get rid of "Comment was hidden by author" and stuff.
So when we get rid of a comment it doesn't still clutter up or comments on submissions ect.
6. Make it easier to submit stories.
No downloading.
7. Verification symbols on out page. ( To prove we are REALLY the owner of the characters there )
We need this because even though we aren't deviant art we honestly do still have a few Theives out there. We also would need this to prove we are the people drawing the art that is in our submissions ect. Like maybe we could use a video verification? Live stream our art and hold up a sign with out user name? Ect. For the proving the chars are ours just ask the artist who drew it who commisioned the art or something.
8. Favorite button for journals.
9. Like and dislike buttons for comments
Or even just like buttons. That would be frigging awesome.
10. Customization for your pages.
11. Being able to change our names
( Not really necessary but would be nice )
Being able to make your page your own. Technically making furaffinity like a facebook for furries with the plus of uploading your own art!
12. Improve the block button.
Make it to where we will never have to see the people we block and they can't see our stuff. Only making it to where they can't send notes is not really helping THAT much.
13. Mass deletion button for submissions and favorites.
It gets agrivating clicking one by one.
These would all be nice and I'm voting for all of this as well but people need to realize this stuff isn't cheap!
IF WE WANT TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN WE NEED TO START A DONATION POOL FOR THE WEBSITE CHANGES. IF YOU LOVE FURAFFINITY AS MUCH AS MOST PEOPLE ON HERE.
A donation pool that isn't money orders I might add.
We would also need proof though that this money is going to the site. Not just dragoneer's ( Or any furry's )pocket.
Hope this can all become real one day~
Yours truely Raven~
Google on the other hand wouldn't mind a bit about it.
As for #13, you can delete submissions etc in a mass form, you either user the "Global Select" button (which selects the current page worth of notifications) or you can use the "Nuke" button which clears up to 3000 messages at a time.
Other than that I like these.
I'd like to see this implemented..
And with the name changes they could perhaps make it to where you can only change your name every few months or once without paying?
Not that improvement for story posting wouldn't be nice, just saying, you do have a non-download option even now.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by verification symbols. Honestly, whatever measures are put in place to try to assure that people are posting their own art/characters only, someone will find a way around it. I understand the sentiment of wanting to protect copyrights and intellectual property, and it's a good sentiment, but unfortunately I suspect it would hit legitimate users just as hard or harder than the thieves. (For instance, not everyone has a connection that will play nice with streaming - what should be done then? Just food for thought.)
No donations have ever gone to line anyone's pockets, I assure you, and we'd love to accept donations through more convenient means than money orders, but unfortunately payment providers see any site containing adult content as high-risk/a legal liability; for example traditional porn sites are many times more likely to receive chargebacks, and then the payment processor is out the money involved in the transaction.
Damn you, ostriches!
That's probably what should have happened, because this is what happens when that DOESN'T happen.
People expect responses to in FA notes. The only way to get said notes is to log in every...single....day. I'm not sitting at a desktop all the time and have most communication being channeled through a single point, namely e-mail and trillian. And doing it from a phone is, not fun. I understand money and development time is tight, but hell I'd be willing to have this considered a "premium feature" where I would pay a monthly fee for such things. I want to throw money at you guys. But I need a reason to do so beyond simply maintaining the site.
OK rant off. Sorry. FA literally is the only site where I haven't found a work around other then visiting it to check my "email".
And saying that 'it would be unprofessional to not hire a person given rumors and hearsay' isn't even an argument. It's about doing good business, and it's about keeping your users.
In my personal opinion, I don't feel comfortable with this. I don't like what I've heard and read, and would prefer this not be the ideal team. That alone, though, doesn't make me want to leave your site.
What really makes me want to leave, is the censorship. And don't even call it harassment, I've read the comments. I've seen some of the things hidden, and they don't even come close. It's people showing concern and being silenced because you don't like it. And this isn't the first time you've done it. I have had friends tell me about their journals getting removed in the past, I've heard about victims being turned around and suspended themselves. I have heard a lot of really unpleasant things, and this isn't even from me DIGGING. This is just talking to regular users who love the site and will probably never leave it. That, before I even had a whiff of what the FA staff is really like, the only thing I DID know about the staff, was that it wasn't a good one. And this is truly unfortunate, and especially so because the more I look, the more true it becomes.
Of course, as the owner/runners, you are fully in your rights to have whatever you want or don't want on your site. And I do understand this is all free and what have you. Doesn't change the fact that it leaves a bad taste in the mouth. : /
And it doesn't change the fact that you are subject to the views and opinions of your users, as you are providing a service.
I find it doubly unfortunate that so many people (including myself) survive off of the users frequenting this site. It's a catch 22, and it means you've got everyone by the balls regardless of how people feel.
I find it in bad taste that you have to stifle your own community on certain subjects, regardless of how civil they are being, because you are not confident enough in your site and its team (at any given time, not just now) to let them speak for themselves be providing a genuinely good service.
Goodness, I could honestly just go on I have been so frustrated with FA as a whole for quite some time.
As far as the phoenix project mockup goes, eh.
I'm not extremely picky about layouts, though I must admit it doesn't strike me as all that pretty or pleasing /shrug
I am not holding my breath on this 'new site' actually happening, either. I lose my confidence in you after so many promises of new things and years upon years of practically nothing (new species listing does not count). I am especially not holding my breathe given the controversy of your team. : /
Balls in your court, though, FA. Prove me and the countless number of users expecting this to never go anywhere wrong. We would honestly be extremely happy for you to do so!
I hope the FA administration reads AND listens
I'm not sure if the admins read it, but it is by far the best worded, most heartfelt and concerned post on this journal. I sincerely hope it is read, although I have my doubts that it will change anything.
Not a fan of the choice of staff in this situation... and how things around it are being handled.
Then again it's like I was expecting ethical decisions.

Hardware is only one component of a website. If the software is lagging behind, then high-quality hardware can seem like junk. If one reads the article, major revisions are planned for the software side of this website.
I would wait and see how those revisions affect performance before rushing to conclusions.
Again....
That should bring the new one up for you.
I did for a short period of time work for dragoneer on the new UI, but that was DOA thanks to this Phoenix. I built a alternative to FA as well over a year ago, for a hobby and even dragoneer was looking at it (interestingly enough). I've offered my help before and never really gotten anywhere by it.
I have my reservations about this project, but I'm in no particular frame of mind to out and out publish them for more/less drama.
If the opportunity arises in future I hope somehow to be able to contribute and et something done here. Maybe.. Perhaps..
We have Dragooner, the barbarian.
Zaush, the rogue.
Nanuk, the bard.
And then we have ctrlaltdel123. A man with no future or past. He's a wild card in this game of thrones. Will he alone be able to carry saush through this project? He carries the fate of this entire site on his shoulders. Let us hope it's not to heavy a burden to bare.
Did you guys forget to change that to Jan 2014 to at least make it look like it's recent?
and it looks like its just good for mobile stuff
If you want to go ahead and say it's because they haven't gotten any donations, look at the page and you'll see that they've updated it every other month they didn't get anything. So I'm less inclined to give them anything if they can't keep records.
awesome
The way this entire thing has been handled is disappointing, between tromping all over peoples' rights and liberties just to cover up something that frankly can't be covered up because EVERYONE ALREADY KNOWS, AND THOSE WHO DON'T ARE GOING TO JUST FIND OUT FROM SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE, to either completely ignoring or just ceasing to respond to people bringing up valid points or questions.
Sadly leaving would do nothing but hurt me and my commission business, it's the only place my Gallery gets the attention that it does.
Hopefully this isn't the final count down.
Just in case no one has told you still.
If you had improved the note system, we would be able to actually organize the notes (for example, into folders or by putting tags on them so we could then have them organized by commissions, by user, by date, etc., rather than just flag them. Which is exactly what we can do now. We can't organize them by flagging or starring them, so that's a slight improvement, but that doesn't allow for proper organization). Which is what your users have been BEGGING you for, for several years now!
So once again, your project has shown to be more about dick waving and nepotism, rather than actually listening to your users. As usual. So much for transparency and listening to your users!
Actually, the mockup up there does have stars for notes as well as some different ways to make them stand out. The mockup also has conversation notes, vs the current system of notes, so notes on the same subject/thread stay in that one thread. (Think how GMail works, to a certain extent)
We're definitely looking at additional suggestions, and please remember that this is an early design prototype and is meant to illustrate the direction we were going in, not necessarily a final version.
You get a gold star. Because no one even got that you weren't leaving and people doing so pisses you off the first few comments you made.

Putting up with bullshit doesn't make you a better person. It just means you're more willing to cover your head over with sand and ignore the impact current events may have on you. Enjoy your ghost town, Sherrif.
Great, and the rest of us that are staying because we have, say, commissions to compete are lumped with circlejerk elitists now, and idiots at that.
That's why I hate this kind of stuff... why don't we start a civil war while we're at it that'll make things so much better.
Yes I understand the basis of FA is primarily visual art, but come on, it's almost like you're saying "we don't like you but we'll let you post your music anyway."
As you read above, 99% of the userbase is not happy with the team (one person especially) and FA/Dragoneer has ignore it completely.
I cannot boycott FA alone, I need a group in the thousands maybe. We need to get the point across that we will not take this sitting down.
If you're interested in this, note me and we can plan it together, maybe even get a petition as well!
So if you're interested, note me!
What is ya'll's response to this?
Nothing?
I wish something could be said to help you guys, are whatever, but the general consensus is people are not happy, and when people aren't happy, people won't stay.
I am sorry it has come to the point that people are leaving. This site has so much potential. :/ Been here since 2009, and it makes me sad most of the people I watch (poplar and not) are all ... leaving?
I am not being facetious. I am just expressing concern. I like FA -- it just makes me sad there's petitions and some "exodus" that is going on.
This is still pretty significant, though, considering the clientele these artists have achieved.
But it is all about cliques and groups in the end. Many just don't care or simply don't even know what is going on.
That's strange, but okay.
I've also read some tumblur posts about this situation, where some people are suggesting that those who don't take part in this war on the admins need to end their life fast. I wish to not take part in something this crazy when i see stuff like this (I'm not linking them because they do not need anymore attention)
lol
but...the shit storm won't end unless something happens, or it all gets boring and dies down.
Been there done that. Lots of drama since I've been here since even 2009. lol it's whatevs, dude.
What i will not stand is when people start making death threats to people who don't stand behind them in this situation. That's going overboard and shows other people where their priorities/mindset are in the long run
I lol'd.
based off their history and previous journals, it was to get asspats, I assure you lol
But the community can still affect things by choosing another option. Which some people are, because they've gotten fed up with the silent treatment, and with the way this ship is being steered.
Sad, perhaps, but the furry community will thrive on.
Definitely would love to see folders and maybe real group accounts that feature the user's art. I think it would be cool.
I'll give this group a chance. Sorry to see so much hate.

Fur Affinity is happy to announce that the next version of furaffinity.net is in active development.
Now? Isn't that layout a bit older ... like years?
Also, a fix for phantom submission/note glitch would be nice.
The Journals fortunately have all been positive for me, no one has yet to leave for me.
This shit, as you call it, doesn't need to stop. It's more like you need to understand that it's everyone's choice and right to leave or stay if they want to.
I'm sorry if people standing for their principles is bothering your sensibilities, but well, this is life, as you say, and you are not entitled to any of the stuff you just demanded. =)
Nuke button
Simple as that. People have the right to leave, and to let their watchers know that they are. Sorry pressing one button is too hard for you.
90% of the people I'm seeing leaving; are gone for good.
Well, unless the entire staff changes on FA.
Not gonna touch the rest of your comment though...
Thank you Fender and everyone else involved for this soon-to-be-in-effect update. I really feel that it's necessary to say something positive just to get out this shit storm of "LEAVING FA" bullshit.
I am a huge fan of finally using the FA logo, and a full-width banner looks great. I also appreciate that the most-needed buttons have been made easy to locate through choice of color and/or contrast.
I realize it's an early draft. Glad an attempt is finally being made.
Hope you guys manage to get it done soon. Good luck.
Anyway, sorry again if my comment is out of place at all! I just wanted to share that bit. >w<;
Joining multiple sites is definitely a very smart business aspect, for sure!
FA's week-long downtime a while back DEFINITELY proved this as a necessity. It really is just plain good business besides. Even if the other places you frequent don't get as much traffic, you could still be pulling in more people than if you stick to one! :D

As for the site redesign, I can say I am certainly looking forward to it.
As for a feature request I'd like, it'd be nice if we could upload multiple pictures at one time, saving them to a new folder. Such as 'pics from AC 2013'. People upload con pics anyway, and it consumes their entire gallery. In the new submissions for users who you're following, just show that someone uploaded a new gallery of pictures titled 'pics of AC 2013', rather than spamming my latest submissions with a ton of con pictures. This would be nice. :)
And it's not just him, it's the whole dominant sector of the staff. They're just incompetent, and many people have had enough. There are better free alternatives with more professional people running them, so people are shifting away from this nonsense. It's not just the accusation; that's just the tip of the iceburg.
You can't scorn people for acting on little proof and ignore the mountains of proof for the other issues about this guy that peg him for a piece of shit staff member, and the plethora of other factors from the other members of the staff. It's a ship run by jackasses who don't know how to run it, and while we might see land one day, a lot of people aren't going to wait around for these guys to finally get their shit together.
RAPE APOLOGIST, VICTIM BLAMER 111!!!!11111!!!
hope it's not TOO LATE or anything!
...Don't let it go there. :<
Meanwhile, I love how this is all designed. :D It looks very crisp and clean, and I especially like the font you're using. It will probably take a quick learning skim to figure out the differences, but this looks like one awesome change. Even though I have no idea what the little star is for... >x>
You are, that's who, and it'll be our little secret. Nobody needs to know. We can like.. we can like.. eat a bunch of candy, or watch a pirated movies, or like or like.. cut tags off mattresses. Nobody's coming back here. This thread is super old. There's even like dust on the chairs.
I tell you what. I bought a VR head set, just to try to watch 3D movies. Cause I watched this thing on it, and now I really want to try it. We should like.. figure out how to watch 3D movies remotely. Just you and me. But keep it quiet.
Keep it under the radar. Just sneak little comments in 9 year old threads. lmao. Sorry this is great. It's like literally opening up a window and screaming into the universe. HELLO, AHOY! I'm from the future. None of this matters.
Everything will be great! Praise the Unholy homologated meat obelisk!
Hey Fender, big fan of the twitch stream.
