Back to Germany!

Germany has invited me back!
The official announcement was last week, but work was crazy bad the week after FWA, and then I was busy all weekend doing Heat #11 editing, but now I finally have some brain cells I can put towards celebrating that Sofawolf Press has been invited as Guests of Honor for Eurofurence #20, Crime Scene Berlin, in August 2014! http://www.eurofurence.org/EF20/goh We’re thrilled, honored, and incredibly excited to be heading back to Germany.
We were last in Germany in 2008 for Eurofurence #14, From Dusk Till Dawn, which was held in the Ringburg Hotel in Suhl. It was a great trip, with a bit of hiking in the Black Forest surrounding the Ringburg Hotel in the days prior to the con and some sight-seeing afterwards. I plan to post some photos online as memories of our time there. We rarely get to enjoy a convention as a full vacation, free of working the dealer’s room, and the Ringburg Hotel was great for that. Sure, the dining options were a bit limited, up on the top of that hill, but we loved the fact that you could get a beer at 10:00 AM and hang out in the little bar in the middle of everything and watch the entire con come and go before us. We also had some wonderful friends and hosts to show us around and make us feel welcome.
At the time, I knew hardly any German, and Brer had learned a smattering via Rosetta Stone. We managed, though in the remote parts of Eastern Germany, where English is not as commonly taught, we definitely had our challenges communicating with the locals. This time, I’m planning ahead and studying a bit of German, myself. It’s always something I’d wanted to do, and now I have a deadline ahead of me! I also have a deadline for getting my old passport renewed.
I have no idea what the demands of being a GOH at EF are going to be like, but it should be fun, and I look forward to meeting everyone else who will be there too!
