Frequently Asked Questions
It's about time for one of these I guess, I keep getting a lot of repetitive notes asking some of the following questions, so I'll just answer them once here! Please always refer to Fursonalities.com and this journal before asking questions. If you have a question that I have not answered in any way on my website or in this journal, I would be happy to provide you with an answer.
Will you show me how to make a fursuit? Do you have any tips/tricks for building?
http://fursuit.livejournal.com/ http://matrices.net/
The best I can do for you is provide you with the links above. I used to have these links in my profile info, but they went ignored, so I will put them here instead. These websites are dedicated to providing tutorials on how to build fursuits and fursuit parts. These people have taken their personal time to generously provide you with the basic tools to show you how to get started, the rest is up to you. Each builder makes their suits differently than the next, including me, and I don't believe in making tutorials on how I do something because the way I do it isn't necessarily the "right way". I do not answer questions about how i did ___ process, where i got ___ material, or anything of the sort, questions like that go directly into my trash folder every single time.
Your commission status says you're closed, can I still get a quote or commission?
No. I do not offer quotes or commissions when my commission status is closed. My quotes are only valid for 3 months, generally when I am closed for commissions it will be longer than 3 months until I open again. Giving out quotes at that point would be counterproductive because the person would have to get a new quote when I open again anyways. Emails asking about quotes when I am closed will be ignored.
Do you have a waiting list?
No. If you want a costume built by me, you must fill out a form when I am open for new commissions. I also will not email anyone to let them know when I will be opening for commissions. I have far too many people ask to remember who wanted what notice.
Do you have a general list of prices?
I do! http://fursonalities.com/prices/ Please keep in mind that the prices listed are general price ranges, complicated characters usually cost more than the estimated price range. The prices listed are also subject to change.
Do you have any sort of discounts that you offer?
Discounts are decided on a case-by-case basis. Generally I do not offer discounts unless otherwise stated.
Why do fursuits cost so much?
Fursuits are a one-of-a-kind piece of luxury artwork, they take weeks or months to build, years of experience to create, and the right materials are expensive to buy and are often hard to find. Each costume is created for it's specific owner based on their preferences and design, and every costume is made by hand by one or two people at most.
Can I provide materials to reduce cost?
Possibly. This sort of question needs to be handled on an individual basis because not all materials are equal, I will only use the best materials on a costume to provide quality and durability. If you have a material (fur, fleece, minky, resin blank, etc.) that you would like used on your costume, you are more than welcome to ask about it, then we can discuss any sort of discount for providing said material.
Will you make me ___ part for free?
No, I will not. Free things are only ever offered on a promotional basis, and are held via raffle or some process of the sort. I have bills to pay, and food to put on the table, I cannot work for free unless it's going to benefit me in a big way. I don't even make free fursuit parts for my friends, sorry.
You gave me a quote ____ years ago, why is the price different now?
My methods and styles are always changing and being improved, what I offered 2 or 3 years ago, I may no longer offer. The way I build costumes even 1 year ago may be different from the way I build them now. These changes and updates affect pricing because it may be more expensive or take longer to use the methods I currently offer over older methods, and older methods may not produce the same level of quality. Quotes expire after 3 months to ensure accuracy.
You used to offer ____ as a feature, why don't you still offer it?
As stated in the answer above, my methods and styles are always changing. If i receive feedback on a feature stating that there are any issues with said feature, I don't offer it again. This prevents any dissatisfaction with the overall product and ensures maximum quality.
Can you make me a suit like ____ builder?
I do not and will not copy the style of other builders. Each builder's method is like a fingerprint; it's completely unique to that builder. If you are wanting to suggest an overall look(toony, realistic, plushie, etc.) , that may be alright, but I will not copy a costume that another artist has built.
Do you require a Duct Tape Dummy (DTD)?
My policy on this has changed a bit over the last several months. I do require DTDs for some projects, we can discuss that during the commission process.
How long does it take to create a fursuit?
The completion time of a costume varies depending on complexity. It can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months to fully complete a suit because of wait times for materials, position in the queue to be completed, complexity of the character, or desired features.
How do you usually ship costumes?
I ship almost exclusively with UPS for full costumes within the US, and with USPS for international customers.
Can you ship internationally?
Absolutely! Please keep in mind that it will take longer to receive your costume if you live outside the US, and that you may have to pay customs or import fees on your items.
What type of payment methods do you prefer?
I prefer checks or money orders at this time, but I also accept PayPal and other payment methods under certain conditions. If you have a question about a payment method, feel free to ask.
Do you accept payment plans?
Sometimes. I require the non-refundable down payment to be made in full before I will start building a costume, that amount can be paid all at once, or in reasonable chunks. After the down payment has been made, i prefer to receive the remainder in one chunk unless we have discussed otherwise. If you have any questions about payment plans, feel free to ask.
Can adjustments be made to my suit if I gain/lose weight?
Possibly. It is easier to adjust a suit for someone who has lost weight than it is for someone who has gained weight. If a matching dye lot of fur can be found, it is possible to adjust a suit for a larger wearer.
Do you have any sort of warranty?
Yes. If there is a problem with your suit (fit, markings, features, etc.) you have 30 days to contact me and return your suit for corrections. If you destroy your suit by being rough with it or not taking proper care of it, I am not responsible for any repairs. If you use your suit for ANY adult purposes I will not work with it any longer for any reason.
Can or do you use real fur on any of your costumes?
No. I do not use any real furs on any of my costumes. I will not use real fur for personal reasons.
Can I order a copy of a previous suit you have made?
No. Each costume in my gallery was created for someone based on their individual design. The design, suit, and character rights belong to that buyer only.
Can you make me a suit of ____ character?
This is a very simple question to answer. Did you create the character yourself and/or own the copyrights to the design? If your answer is "no", then my answer is "no".
How is the visibility in your heads?
Visibility in my heads is excellent in most cases. I personally prefer to fursuit without a handler/spotter (not recommended), which means the vision in my costumes must allow me to see as much of the world around me as possible. I try to create the same freedom for my customers. Different styles of heads have different levels of vision, if you have any questions about which style would be best for your vision needs, feel free to ask.
Can I wear my glasses in your heads?
In some cases I can make a head to fit a wearer with glasses, but not all of my heads are glasses-friendly. Please be sure to ask if you will be needing to wear glasses in your head, if i don't know you need that feature, i don't offer it as a standard.
What kind of soles do you offer for feet?
I mainly offer outdoor soles on my feetpaws. These are made with a durable grey rubber that covers the entire bottom of the paw. Upon request I can make finished bottoms, which include fur and sewn-in pawpads. Finished bottoms are not recommended because they are not as durable.
Can I visit your studio?
No. I do not offer studio tours or studio pick-up for costumes.
Do you want to do a trade for ___ fursuit part(s)?
This is a question I would have to answer on a case-by-case basis. Generally I am not interested in doing trades unless you're an established artist that I know/have heard of and we are working on each other's project(s) at the same time. That way we are both ensured a fair trade and neither of us has to wait an excessive time for our traded piece(s).
If you have any questions you'd like added to the above list, please feel free to comment or note them to me!
