March 2009 Raffle
Is everyone here ready to Raffle?! I know I am! Last time we raised a whopping $320.59!!! It was a bit shy of our $400 goal, but that's still nothing to sneeze at! That's more than a $100 growth in proceeds compared to the first raffle! You guys are awesome!
THIS RAFFLE HAS ENDED! SEE THE RESULTS HERE:
RESULTS!
Now, it's that time to help our friends once again. This time we are aiming for $600.00 dollars or more. This will be split up into 6 shares and given to the furs in need here:
Alrumia - Accepting Commissions - http://www.furaffinity.net/user/alrumia/ [Needed $600 by Feb. 28th, but was negotiated an extension. Still needs help.]
DARKWOLFE - http://www.furaffinity.net/user/darkwolfe [Needs $600 to keep his home which has his necessary medical supplies to help him live]
dragonofdarkness13 - Accepting Commissions - http://www.furaffinity.net/user/dragonofdarkness13 [Already homeless]
Kazegin - Accepting Commissions - http://www.furaffinity.net/user/Kazegin [Set to be evicted by March 21st]
MunkArt - http://www.furaffinity.net/user/munkart [Risking Eviction] AND

These folks are in very difficult situations and need as much help as they can get. If this raffle does very well and we get lots of people wanting tickets and lots of artists wanting to donate, we just might be able to make more tickets and add a new recipient or two to the Proceed Donations list.
I for one would LOVE to see that happen.

Rules to Buying a Raffle Ticket
First off, you must add your FA username into the comments area of your Paypal transfer!!! Failure to do such will result in a refund! (minus the fee of course).
Each ticket will cost $2.00 USD, and you can buy up to 5 tickets!
Currently, we are experiencing issues with the PayPal account that was being used for the Raffle, and will be unable to accept ticket purchases via PayPal for the time being.
However, the money earned is still intact, and will still be given to those in need. In the meantime, I will be looking into alternatives for future raffles, and will still be taking ticket purchases. If you wish to buy tickets, PM me and let me know how you want to pay for them, and we'll work something out. Thank you for your understanding.
We will be taking donations! They were a huge help to pay off the fees from the transfers, so please, if you have any other funds you would like to donate, feel free to do so. :)
Contributing artists are not allowed to purchase tickets at this time. We're sorry about that, but it's to allow non-donating members to get first shot at the tickets. During the last three days of the raffle, March 29th-March 31st, if there are slots still left over, then donating artists are allowed to purchase tickets.
If you have any other questions, you can find answers to most of them here:

I want to give a big shout out to

I want to give you a huge, HUGE, HUGE Thank You for this donation, and that you will always be a member of the Anti-Drama Llama Movement for LIFE!
I want everyone to give this guy mad props for being really, REALLY generous! :) Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

If donating art, you can sign up here:

Either way, thank you! :D

If you wanted to donate a penny, you could, but it would more than likely be a bad reflection upon yourself.
Remember, it's not just Seux that need help here, but a lot of people who are in real dire straights.
~Otaku-Man
To buy a ticket I have to donate 2 dollars with my username in the comment, right?
But thanks for reply ^^
~Otaku-Man
I nearly forgot to switch from Euro to USD ;P
~Otaku-Man
~Otaku-Man
Good luck you yourself and all those this will help [sorry I cannot help myself.]
If you don't have funds to purchase tickets, you could always sign up to be a donating artist for the raffle here:
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/647464/
And if you don't think you can do that, that's okay too. We're always looking for support, and one way you can support this raffle is by spreading the news about it. Write up a journal linking here and tell people about what we're doing.
It'll do a lot of good. :)
~Otaku-Man
I colour lineart for people, I don't draw it. As such I cannot offer anything myself, though perhaps I could work with someone if you know any people who'd be interested.
As a matter of fact, I saw someone looking to pay someone for inking earlier today.
~Otaku-Man
~Otaku-Man
~Otaku-Man
That's a big list.
~Otaku-Man
I'll make sure you get your tickets one way or another. :)
~Otaku-Man
Question though: what happens if I win? Am i bidding on a commission from an artist, or a pre-existing artwork?
if you happen to place you win a free commision from the artists that are available to you. inother words a custom picture drawn by the artist.
am i right otaku-man?
Okey-doke. I figured as much, but wanted to be sure.
And to answer your question (which I will soon move to the FAQ), here's how the prizes work.
Once the raffle is over, I tally up how many artists have signed up by then and split them in half, and then one half in half again.
For example, we have 20 artists. I would then split that into 10, 5, and 5.
This means that 1st place will get 10 prizes, 2nd place 5 prizes, and 3rd place five prizes.
I then count which artists are doing multiple prizes.
Artists who are donating for a specific place (like
Next, I take artists who are donating more than one prize and divy them up like so:
If an artist has 2 prizes for two places, their first prize automatically counts towards one of the 10 for 1st Place. The art for 2nd place is considered a bonus. If the artist is offering 3 prizes, then it works the same way only now there's a bonus prize for 2nd and 3rd place. If the artist has a selection of prizes to choose from, like
If an artist is offering more than 3 prizes, then their prizes are split up amongst 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the same 50%, 25%, 25% style as all the artists combined. (If an artist was giving away 4 prizes for example, 1st place would get 2, 2nd place 2, and 3rd place 1, all from the same donating artist)
After doing the math and figuring out how many are spoken for, I then let 1st place choose artists of their choice from the donating list.
In this case, as it is now with 20 artists, 3 are giving away multiple prizes,
For 2nd place, since
Finally, of the artists with only one prize remaining left, those will be the 5 3rd place receives. 3rd place will also get prizes from
So after the breakdown, 1st place gets 10 prizes, 2nd place gets 8 (after bonus prizes), and 3rd place gets 7.
Now, if more artists sign up between now and the end of the raffle, then the number of prizes for each place will start to grow, and make the jackpot even sweeter.
I hope that complex figuring wasn't too bad and answers your question.
Now to put this in the FAQ.
~Otaku-Man
Of course, now I'm gonna worry that, if I DO win, I won't be able to come up with enough ideas for all those commissions! ;)
ditto Alex XD @_@
~Otaku-Man
~Otaku-Man
If you want in, there are still slots available! Go for it! You might just win! :)
~Otaku-Man
Just... wow.
By the way, love your icon. :)
~Otaku-Man
~Otaku-Man
Feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken.
~Otaku-Man
I totally suck at this art lingo and saying what I want accomplished as far as art goes.
@_@ I'm really just a fur who lurks here XD *no artistic ability*
I mean, does it matter who the artist talks to and stuff? Like I said, I can always just call her and ask what to type XD but she's a lot nicer and more friendly etc. *shrug*

So I assure you this is no scam. A lot of this is based on good faith, yes, but I intend to do my best to ensure that everyone's good faith is rewarded. Scamming here would not just be a ban-worthy offense, but criminal as well and could face major repercussions. Frankly, I'd rather not take the risk and just do my best for everyone.

They need psychiatric help.
Or a bullet to the temple.
One of those two.
The Movement is not here for the purpose of judging, scrutinizing, and shunning people for any of their views or beliefs.
I am disappointed that you feel this way. I also feel that this comment is a bit hostile towards other FA members.
Please refrain from making further comments like this or I will have to take action.
Thank you.

Surely no good can come of this. *coughAllancough*
We have had two raffles prior to this and both went just fine.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to PM me or view our FAQ which is linked in the journal above.
Thank you.

Not to be down on good intentions, but people need to LEARN from their downfalls, and not learn to expect a hand out from generous people.
Sorry, man. I don't support this at all. Giving emotional support is one thing, but you need to teach a man to fish, and not just give him a fish.
Money can be very helpful but if people don't develop good habits and make life changes the money runs out and they're right back where they started. Maybe if you provided more info to help folks better themselves, like providing information on how to write resumes and handle job interviews, tips for saving money and living more frugal, contact info. for social services, etc. that would help just as much if not more. You know the saying about catching a person a fish and you feed them for a day, teach them to fish and you feed them for a lifetime?
Also, how do you guys know every one is legit? They could easily be ripping you and everyone else who helps them off. And some of the stories sound fishy but maybe it's just because people don't know better or are perhaps not too bright. Like the guy who says he'll die if he looses his home, that may be true but there are laws in place to help someone like him, if he spoke with a hospital they could probably hook him up with someone (like a social worker) who could help. Also, $600 isn't a lot, how is he unable to make that money? Does he have no job, no savings? What about getting a loan? He says he has no credit, how does a 50 year old not have credit? And if nothing else why can't he go to a shelter, they're not going to deny him life support there, Hell, maybe if he just told the situation to the person he owes money to they'd go easy.
I like the idea of helping people if it -works-, but I'm a big advocate for self responsibility.
Given some of the more negative comments could frighten away possible donors for a charitable raffle, I might have to remove these.
However, yours is quite well thought out and raises some valid questions. I'd like to PM an answer to you when I get a chance (I have some work and updates to do here first).
If you could, please copy and paste this into a PM to me so I can answer it there. I'd hate for this to get erased before that.
Thank you.
~Otaku-Man
I'll send it right now.
I do believe in giving money to help these people with rent. Quite recently, Devia received a donation to help with her account not being overdrawn. So I really do understand how donating helps.
But also I think adding resources and links to self help websites for budget management and also maybe help people with finding jobs etc.
Other resources would be really helpful too!

PEOPLE: I can understand your wariness. This is the internet after all. I'm sure we've all been shafted before. But to assume from the start that this is either illegitimate or doomed to failure says WAAAAY more about what kind of person YOU are, than it does about what ADLM is trying to do.
tl,dr: Eyyyy, shaddap-a you mouf.
However, a couple of comments here are definitely not constructive, and I sincerely hope that they won't continue making them as I'd hate to have to ban people. If they do, I won't have much other choice, and I'll also have to see about removing some of the comments as well.
In the meantime, I appreciate you standing up for the efforts, and hope that the positive energy here keeps going.
~Otaku-Man
And it's not just here. I've seen similarly negative stuff said on people's journals or submissions that mention ADLM. <shakes head> I dunno about you, but I get sick of, when I try to do something nice for someone and get treated like, 'You poor naive fool. The world is a festering heap of dung and will always be!' My response is, 'Then why make it worse?'
It's always a good idea to be cautious, I mean help people but be alert. I really liked how one person did a charity auction and then posted screen shots of the medical bills they paid with it, plus they turned around and started another charity auction for others after getting out of their bad situation. That was a beautiful moment for a community often riddled with negativity.
No worries, mate! ;)

That is indeed pretty cool! I'm hoping ADLM will become that for FA.
Good job in thinking the worst of the most generous members of your community.
I know he wasn't expecting that. I merely added that little comment in for two reasons:
1) A little friendly joke.
2) If anyone did feel that this put them at a disadvantage, it lets them know that they are still on equal footing as far as winning goes.
So no, I don't think the worst of him at all. I just wish the smiley face had worked there.

And thank you!

Good luck, and thanks again! :)

Here's hoping!

Thank you guys for making such a thing happen & hope this go well to the furs in need.
Also, the randomizer gave you the Special 300th ticket slot!
Good luck!

Not seeing it as of yet.
~Otaku-Man
By the way, I just skimmed through some of the comments on here. I'm surprised at how doubting some people are. Of course, I haven't been around FA long enough (actively) to know of "Allan" or the shit behind that storm.. but still. I haven't seen you giving money to anyone more then once yet, so I know you can't be encouraging people who are just beggars.
Also, while the ideas for linking budget counciling and such are nice... sometimes Life just feels like smacking the crap out of you for a little bit. I'd like to hope that if I got into a situation like any of those listed here, people like me would donate what they could to help.
In the meanwhile, I appreciate the vote of confidence. I definitely know that life likes to throw a curve ball at people every now and then, so I'm just hoping that I can provide options for curve balls and for lasting the rest of the ballgame.
Not everyone may be as optimistic as me, or those of us here at the Movement, but as long as I can help one good person out, then it's well worth it.
~Otaku-Man
Best luck to all involved. This is an excellent cause ^_^

On that note its rather dissapointing to see how many look at it so negatively, its alright to be skeptical of the authenticity and effectiveness but some people actually enjoy helping others, its a good feeling... seriously. Some of em were constructive but others were just.. rude. regardless, best of luck
Still, some of the constructive criticism and feedback I've gotten from a number of them have been quite positive, and given me some good things to think about for the future of the Movement.
Either way, I'm still glad to know that the Movement has as much support as it does now, and I could not ask for more. :)
(It'd be nice, but that would be greedy and rude to ask. :) )
Thanks again for the kind words.
~Otaku-Man
But then again, you do have a point that with the raffle's expansion, the importance of raising money, and the sheer random chances with www.random.org, it's probably wise to get rid of the limit and allow as many raffle ticket purchases as someone wants.
Especially now that we have 30 artists donating for this raffle.
I think the next raffle I'll either double the number of allowed slots, or get rid of them altogether.
I'll have to ask folks what they think about that after the raffle is over.

You're all set! Thank you very much and good luck! :)
~Otaku-Man
I've got a welcome letter I can PM you if you'd like.
Also, don't worry about trolls or naysayers. I've actually talked to a few of them and found out one of the biggest complaints is the name of the Movement. I've been thinking of changing it in order to continue doing what we're doing, but keep people from worrying that it might attract un-necessary drama.
What's more important is the raffle, and helping folks out!
Glad to see you're so passionate about this too. :3
Let's focus that energy and do some good!
~Otaku-Man
I will participate i the raffles. Hope to help out as much as I can. I wish all the best of luck to you all.
I'm proud to be able to offer what assistance I can to help out others in need, and I hope that I never have the misfortune of doing business with those people so selfish and greedy that they actually openly attack a cause such as this with their negativity. And then they wonder why there's so much hate in the world.
Agreed, I don't ever what to have to deal with selfish people like that. And so much hate in the world, but a person helping another help decrease it all the better. ^.=.^
Were you unaware that the unemployment rate was over 8%. Were you unaware that the official numbers are based on measurements that do not count all of the unemployed, and that a better estimate for unemployment is 14%? Were you unaware that you have to go all the way back to the frikkin' Great Depression to find a worse economic situation?
People do not exist in a vacuum. Your status in life is not determined solely by your own actions. Do not look down on people who suffer misfortune, because the next person wearing those shoes could be you.
