Fur Walk 2015 Canada Day Fun in the Sun.
Hi there folks!
I would like to start by saying sorry for the long wait. Personal life events occured one after the other and it seems whenever I had a moment to breath, I would pass out on the futon. But now that things a more manageable, here is the crucial update you guys have been waiting for. I will be using a lot of the previous year's info considering nothing much has changed, only a few minor details.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
If it rains, this event is CANCELED. Fur suits are expensive and we wouldn't want to get them soaked.
Map of the 2015 walk is the same as last year's. Even the same link: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/13804916/
1:30 pm
Meet up at the Supreme Court of Canada on Wellington (same street as Parliament Hill).
Starting area here: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/10972159/
2:00 pm
First group pic and then:
Furwalk begins! We go from the Supreme Court, down past Parliament Hill, turn left onto Metcalfe, (O'Connor Street will be our back up street if Metcalfe is too busy) The rest stop is on Queen, we turn left and go up Elgin, turn right and stay on Wellington for a few steps (Passing the Chateau Laurier), then turn left onto Mackenzie Ave and stay on it for a few minutes and walk up to the first pair of lights. Once at the lights WE DO NOT CROSS, we turn left onto Alexandra Bridge street. Walk down and then cross the street towards the ending point at National Gallery of Canada.
The Rest stop is on Queen Street: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/16804418/
The stop point was used last year and seems to have worked very well. Just please remember NOT TO BLOCK ANY DOORS OR EXITS.
After resting up we will leave in roughly 15-20min. The timer only starts when the last suiter arrives to make sure everyone gets a breather.
At this point we normally would go down Queen and onto Elgin and towards the tomb of the Unknown Soldier where we take pictures. Due to the unfortunate circumstances last year this picture has been CANCELLED. We don't want to make anyone panic/fearful of a large amount of masked people going towards that area.
We continue on up Elgin and onto Rideau roard towards the US Embassy.
This is where we will take the second group photo. It will be right between 2 green plants under the lamp post where the Quebec tabard is: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/13805021/
We will end the walk at the same spot as last year at the museum.
End of the fur walk here: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/13804986/
4:00 pm
Meals, Socialization, Relaxation; at this point, there are no planned events for several hours. We suggest you go eat, hang out with your friends/fellow furs locally until at least an hour before the fireworks.
10:00 pm
Watching the fireworks by the Museum of Civilization in Gatineau
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Alexandra Bridge linking Ottawa and Gatineau near the Museum will be closed between 9pm and 11pm. If you are planning on using this bridge to join us, CROSS BEFORE 9:00PM
Please note, the tarp isn't always a certain thing. Please plan accordingly and bring something to sit on. I will be planting two large Fur Walk Flags so everyone may spot it from far away. Myself and Jers (my mate) will be there to save a large enough area. Please note, if we cannot grab that exact same spot we will try and grab the next best thing within the area. Just look out for the flags and 2 Pandaren Suits.
FAQ:
What you should bring with you to the FCD walk?
WATER/ GATORADE/POWERADE and little snacks. If you have never walked in the summer with a fursuit on, plenty of people will tell you its a challenge of endurance. Be smart, stay cool and HYDRATED.
If you have a medical condition that requires anything, make sure you have it with you.
Bring a handler if you need one. Yes not everyone will be suiting up, and yes we do ask those who aren`t to give us a hand. BUT they arent obligated to. If you know your suit requires a handler then please make accomodations.
Bring a towel or blanket to sit on, a tarp isn't always guaranteed.
Last year we couldn't give any Fur Walk Flags due to being last minute. Unfortunately again this year we won't be able to either simply because of budget. I wish I could but I cannot buy anything for the walk. But if you wish to bring one from a past year or make your own, you are welcome to do so. It may even be a different species paw print to show diversity. BUT I ask you still treat the flag WITH RESPECT. One paw print, same size as the other Fur Walk flags. Please do not write anything on the flag. We do not want to upset anyone or disrespect our country on it`s birthday. :)
If you bring children, THEY ARE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.
What we will not tolerate:
Drama.
Harrassment.
Anything illegal.
No drugs/alcohol.
If you feel threatened or made uncomfortable because of another fur PLEASE TELL ME AND MY HELPERS. This event has ZERO tolerance of harrasment.
Remember, this is a public event. There will be children and families everywhere. We want to give the public the best positive impressive towards the Furry Community. And of course, for it to be fun for EVERYONE.
I would like to address some things that where brought to me in past years:
``The flags where too low. ``
Unfortunately I am 5`3. My arms get tired after 5 minutes. I sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. I ask that everyone please keep an eye out for your fellow furry. You see one lagging behind, please try and bring them up to the group.
I shall hopefully have a tall wolf/husky I will give the flag too also so people can see it farther away.
``I got there at 2:30 and no one was there. I also posted VIA Facebook that I was late.``
We start the walk at 2pm. If you are late, I sincerely apologize if you get delayed but we MUST stick to the schedule. Also my own phone doesn`t have internet on it. Nor will I be able to see any messages since I am fursuiting as well. Please think ahead for getting there.
It is the first of July in the Capital of Canada. One of the busiest days for crowds and traffic.
Myself and Jers usually try and get there by 11:30. And we live near Bayshore. That's how early and how much we don't trust the traffic on that day.
"Are there any other activities happening in between or after this event? "
Unfortunately no. I apologize but the walk is all I myself, can plan. That being said, it doesn't stop others from planning a dinner after the walk or any other event after or before as you see fit. Just keep in mind the walk's schedule. I cannot change the times all over the place. This message is posted on as much Canadian fur pages and website as I can and I wouldn't want to confuse people. But if you feel like you can organize ie. a supper before the fireworks, please don't feel like you will be interrupting the walk by any means. :)
This event is meant to be fun and be proud you're a Canadian fur!
Final notes:
By coming to the walk you acknowledge to abide by our rules. You also agree and acknowledge everyone is responsible for themselves. We are not responsible for you.
If you have any questions please address them to me here or on FB if you have me friended.
