Duskhunters [Closed Species]
Duskhunters (also known as Duskers) are agile, carnivorous predators.
They are currently a closed species, as I'd like to keep their designs in check with the guidelines.
Please feel free to ask questions about the species! I'd love to have more info to add to this Journal <3

Features
Head
The skin of a Dusker’s head is tough, smooth and scratch resistant, and their necks are usually covered in a regal fluffy mane that stops near the breastbone.
Crests- All Duskers have cockatoo-like crests that lay back when at rest or relaxed. If they become excited or angry, they fan their crests up or to the sides to display their colors and markings. Their crests are either composed of feathers, or feather-like tufts.
Eyes
Duskers have very good night vision. They have two sets of eyes, the smaller of which they closed during the day to keep them sensitive and keen in the dark. Their eye color varies widely, able to occur in nearly every color except black and brown. In rare cases, they can have multi-colored eyes.
Teeth
Dusker’s teeth lie flat back when relaxed or resting. They can flex their teeth at will, when hunting or eating. To eat, they shred their prey with their razor sharp teeth, then lie their teeth flat back to swallow chunks of meat whole. Bones are not a problem for Duskhunters as their innards are nearly impossible to puncture. They clench their muscles as they swallow, crushing bones into bits.
Their tongue is covered in tiny backwards facing barbs, like a cat. They also salivate quite a bit when eating to help swallow their prey.
Body
Duskhunters have lithe, agile bodies. They have stomach plating made from the same tough skin on their heads. This plating begins near the neck and ends around the inner thigh.
Genitals- Females do not have breasts. Their upper chest is more angular and defined than males, but they do not have actual breasts as they do not feed their young with milk. They feed their hatched younglings scraps of meat instead. The younglings have very strong stomachs.
Hands- Duskers have one thumb and three fingers, and they are very good at holding and gripping their food as well as various objects.
Legs and feet- They have digigrade running legs, with strong thighs and feet, allowing them to spring on their prey at a moment's notice. Their feet have three large, clawed toes.
Tails- Their tails are mostly fur-less except for the ends which are highly ornamented with fur, spikes, and feathers. The tails begin thicker at the base and become thinner as they go. They are usually very long and can reach up to two times the length of their bodies. On average they are the same length as a Dusker from head to toe. Sometimes fur will grow down the ridge of the tail, as well as small decorative spikes.
Duskhunters often use their tails as bait in the night as the tips of the feather-like extensions reflect light with color.
Coloration
Duskhunters most common body colors range from black to grey. In extremely rare cases, light grey to white.
Their eyes and patterns, however, can be nearly any color.
Reflective coloration- All Duskers have unique patterns along their bodies the reflect with their own individual colors. They use these reflective/glowing colors to impress females and intimidate other males.
Duskers have reflective/luminescent marking on their upper chest that resemble their own eyes. They use these eye-like markings to appear more intimidating to threats.
Communication and Social:
Language
Duskers communicate with each other with rapid, high pitched clicking and guttural shrieks. They ‘purr’ with softer lower pitched clicks when being affectionate.
