Kerubias Creation
For those who'd like to get some more information about how Kerubia came to life, and what influenced and inspired me, I decided to write this journal.
When I entered the furry fandom I first was quite unsure about my fursona... what species to pick and so on.
My first instinct went in the direction of a black and red colored fox, but after some more time of consideration and thinking about the past, it became clear to me that my fursona should be a dragon, as I've always loved dragons.
After browsing through the web, looking at various fursuits / fursonas as well as visiting some local events, talking to other furries, I was strongly influenced by the creations of radywolf / K-Line (Rufen and others) as well as similar Japanese fursuits. In addition to this, I also met luria on a local furmeet in Hamburg, who also is a fur dragon. She was one of the first fursuiters I saw in real life and who had a very unique way of acting while fursuiting, which made her stand out of the crowd. Thus I decided to pick a fur dragon as my fursonas species as well.
After the species was decided upon, the next step was to find colors and patterns as well as features to give Kerubia a unique style which also represented my inner wishes. The pattern on Kerubias back as well as on her arms and legs was inspired by a hyena (dots and wiggly lines). After I decided on the pattern I tried to find a proper color scheme (I tried several different ones). I eventually decided on blue as the base color, as I grew up at the Baltic sea and always felt close to it. Also blue is a calm color, which represents myself a lot. I took a turquoise / aqua blue as the base (again, due to the sea / ocean), purple for the patterns and paws (while in the very first version the pattern on Kerubias back was dark blue, like her hair, but this was changed to purple later on, to match the paws). The green eyes are also derived from blue, and of course her hair, which is a dark / royal blue.
To show my connection to Asia (and China in particular), Kerubia got dragon horns similar to those of a Chinese Dragon (think Shen Long from Dragonball for example).
This whole process was accompanied by wolfstatze who helped me to bring my ideas to paper (as I can't draw at all), as well as she also helped me with finding a fursuit builder. After some work on a first refsheet and asking several fursuit builders, lazylupe agreed to bring Kerubia to life.
During the creation process I asked LazyLupe to have a look at Luria to get a general idea on how fur dragons look (especially the round nuzzle, as opposed to angel dragons, realistic dragons or all the other species), since until then she had never made a fursuit of a species other than canine / feline species. Even though I probably should've asked Luria for permission, I did not - as I always though this just to be a source of inspiration, like all my other sources. I'm sorry for that, and if I would be in the same position again, I'd surely ask. Luckily Kerubia turned out completely different, as I also asked LazyLupe to not copy any of my inspirations, but to create Kerubia in her own way of creation and style (and stay close to my reference sheets), which she did a great job at.
One thing which is yet to come are Kerubias chibi wings, which I will add to Kerubia by myself. They have a very special meaning to me, as I would like to dedicate them to my mother, who passed away on the 23rd of October this year (2015). In some way I hope Kerubia will reach out to her and guide her in the afterlife.
The creation of Kerubias name is another story, but also has some history.
Long ago, I decided to take on "Takeru" as my chosen first name, which later became just "Keru" as it was shorter. When I created Kerubia, I wanted her to be genderless, but have a female name, which should end on -a (as I think those names always have something calm and beautiful to them). Thus I experimented with "Keru" and several syllables to find a proper name. "Kera" was too short, so I decided to add an extra syllable, which eventually turned out to be -bia.
Kerubia had a long way to get to be the fursona she is now, and she means a lot to me.
I'm most thankful to LazyLupe to create her, and one of my main goals with Kerubia is to bring joy and happiness to everyone, as this also makes me happy. It is such a great feeling to see others become cheerful and happy once they see and interact with me.
This has been a long text, and I'd like to say "Thank You" to everyone who decided to read through all this.
