Asking for Help- Don't know what to do
I'm sure a lot of you are friends with me on Facebook, but here's my current situation.
I've been having jaw pain, headaches, earaches for a long time now. 4 years ago, I went to the dentist, and he told me that my lower jaw was too small, and that was what was causing me pain. I didn't have a fulltime job at that point, so I didn't pursue it further.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago. Dentist told me that my teeth are wearing down far faster than they should. Also, my pain is getting more severe and my whole mouth is becoming very sensitive.
I went to the orthodontist, they took pictures of my mouth and gave me some info.
I will need braces, and then after my teeth are straight, I have to have surgery where they break my jaw and reshape it with metal plates. It's not outpatient either.
So- prices (and I do have decent insurance!)
Braces- $5000
Surgery - $12000- $30000.
I drove home crying. Even if I do have a decent job, I can't save that money up. Who can? Even if I spend nothing but mortgage and bills, it will take me over 2 years.
That's a ton of money! And if I don't get it soon- like within the next year, my teeth are going to be unsaveable and I'll be in pain the rest of my life.
I'm starting to place my possessions on eBay. If you'd like to look, my ebay ID is skyrocketneko, same as my name here.
It will be slow work, but hopefully I can make at least some of what I'll need for my surgery.
What else can I do? Does anyone have any suggestions? Sadly, my job is very long hours so I can't take another. My paypal is mysticfyre[at]sbcglobal.net if you feel like helping.
I just HATE HATE HATE asking for help. And thank you, anyone that reads.

I say ask your dentist about payment plans or look around for offices that offer scaled rates (based off income and expenses) they normaly go without insurance and if your insurance can be added might drop it even lower! Also as for your teeth wearing down horribly fast you might wanna ask the dentist if it might be due to sleep grinding (where while you sleep you grind your teeth or grit your jaw really hard without knowing) alot of times a simple fix for that (sounds like alot of your pain might be tied to it) is a mouth guard build for sleep to stop you from doing that...just some ideas I would toss funds at you if I could though~ good luck and I hope you get better soon its never fun being stuck in a hard spot just trying to live healthy...

My only choice is surgery. I can't even chew correctly. The surgery itself is medical. And do you believe the cost is with my insurance?

honestly I do beleive that and I'm sad to hear thats the part that is the kicker...I hope everything ends up working out for yah but like I said ask the hospital and what not if they allow payment plans cause of the situation there has to be something you can do to ease the burden

Have you checked with any schools/universities in your area that have dental/orthodontic programs? They may be able to complete the work at a significant discount if you don't mind a student (with supervision) working on you.

Th large cost portion is medical. It involves a hospital stay. Unfortunately. I can cover the cost of the braces fine- it's the surgery that I can't.
