Wrestleball is a fictional free for all arena sport set in the bottomless district. Shown here is the Titan Class season championship, where the biggest face off in this brutal competition for possession time and knockouts. As you can see, there is no protective gear worn, and deaths on the field are not uncommon.
This is Janus, nearly 9 feet of athletic stallion who reigns as champion in the district. Though he's smaller than competitors like Hector, his intelligence and speed in the ring earn him consistently high scores, specializing in ball capture time and sneaky maneuvers.
Had a lot of fun working on this. It was a little on and off moving between Photoshop and Manga Studio, but it's helped me work out a great workflow for digital painting. Hope you enjoy!

I would be surprised if there was a Swift class of really agile and light people who were basically freaking ninjas. Probably cloud beat a skilled Titan as long as they were skilled themselves.
If you like fighting then why not have a championship where all classes come together and all that's left is the best of the best!
Should be like
Titan (huge)
Goliath (big)
Warrior (med)
Berserk (small)
Swift (tiny)

But what if the other person is either knocked out or incapable to continue with the match, yet the other fighter doesn't realise that because of said rage/rush. I don't exactly it happening that the referee is looking at it, and concludes: "Well, that guy is sure done for. Good thing I'm not in his place while that manticore continues beating his face to a pulp."
Sorry if these questions bother you. It's just my discipline or good will as a fighter kicks in now ^^'

I'm fairly certain in that world aswell.
Just look at the scene. You don't see any lustful expressions there (or other taking advantage of the knocked out persons).
Also, the match must go on. So like Zaush, sort of, mentioned above. You'll lose points if you waste your time on having a ''different kind of clash''.

Late response but: They wouldn't leave.
From what I've pieced together of Zaush's comments, people go TO this sport for the violence.
Aggression is the name of the sport, basically, and killing is allowed in the rules. It's just the same as Roman Gladiators in this way.
Nudity emphasized the brutality of the sport and reduced the protection of its competitors, and the crowds go to it for the brutal violence and entertainment.

Hard to say! I juggle back and forth, since both have tools I love using. I tend to use Photoshop for sketching, setting up the flats or value study, and large sweeping edits. Manga Studio is better for when I need to get in there and do detail work, blending, painting in general. I'm sure every pixel has been touched by both apps at some point.
Photoshop is a more complete editing tool, but MS has more tools to make things easier. I guess I would be disappointed in myself to recommend the easy way out since it'll only paint you into a proverbial corner not learning digital painting the right way. There's no one right method, but smeary blendy tools aren't going to make you a better painter.

That's a great question(s)! I covered in the description that KOs count for points, and there are definitely more ways to get points, as well as opportunities for the ball to be ejected from play or multiplied. I'd love to do a little rulebook on it some day when I'm able to.
Is it a law or just a custom? Like if you walk around in the bottomless district wearing pants do you get arrested or do people just go 'pfft, tourists'?
And what about public masturbation? Can you e.g. rub out a quickie while waiting for the buss and people won't think twice of it? Like it's no weirder than blowing your nose or scratching an itch. That'd be hot.
Also, love that horsecock on Janus. 10/10 would deepthroat for free.

Think of it like... It's not illegal to wear a mask, but try going into a bank or other facility wearing one, and everyone will look at you like you've got something to hide, or are a weirdo. As for jerking your meat, I think of it as being acceptable in some situations. It depends on the company around you and the atmosphere.
Ah, so fapping is kind of like smoking? It's legal to do as long as you're not in an area that explicitly prohibits it. And if you're with a group of people it's common decency to back off a bit so they don't have to smell it. Perhaps restaurants and such have masturbating and non-masturbating sections? Heh.
I guess! It's just odd to think that people would need to do that, as if everyone in public is getting uncontrollably hard wood. You could make the argument that being bottomless makes you aware of your nudity and likely to get horny, but if you were bottomless every day you'd get used to it fast.
Didn't read the other comments.. But.. Did anyone else talk about that one movie?

Majority was Photoshop, but I'd say that either is great for painting. There's a reason pros use Photoshop for painting, and if you learn how to blend with standard brushes by controlling opacity and frequently sampling, you'll expand your abilities to paint many different surfaces other than ones that appear smooth.
Amazing work! Seeing pictures for the Bottomless District is always a treat, and when the front two boys Are such excellent examples of masculinity, it's even better!
I love the concept for this game. I've been meaning to try to add some more obscure or different types of sports games in my main setting. I might use this concept as a bit of inspiration if you're alright with it!

This is brutally awesome, really! Who knew the bottomless district could hold so many cool games. I wonder if there are other types of games that are like this there, it seems like it could be fun!
The question I have though is how did you make it look like the blood is bubbling up in the horse? The attention to detail is fantastic!

Actually I believe Canon's white lenses are all telephoto lenses. Naturally telephotos are expensive as hell because so much more glass is needed to zoom further away and maintain focus at different focal lengths, so the price isn't mutually exclusive withthe color white.
Now, if you're talking about Canon lenses with the red stripes on them, dohohohoh, that's fucking BANK right there.

I know their L lenses are expensive, and the telephoto L lenses are white, though they have a 28mm-300mm, and that seems like it would do relatively wide angle. I don't actually think there are any non-L Canon lenses that are white, so you know it's an L for sure when you see it. (I have the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS, it's a really nice telephoto)
I absolutely love the idea of a "prison rules" sport where death is just supplementary and not the objective. There's a lot of hooved animals out there. I don't think I've ever see you draw a raccoon in the bottomless district... or at all actually.
So the bottomless district is a city and not just a subdivision of a larger metropolis? Is the bottomless district any higher or lower on the economic ladder than neighboring cities/districts comparatively with housing and job opportunities?

I guess there are a lot of species to cover, and I have my favorites, so it's not out of the ordinary to miss many of them. I have drawn a raccoon before, you can find it pretty easily if you check out my gallery.
The bottomless district started out as a small part of a city, then expanded in jurisdiction until it was an entire city in and of itself. The economy is upper scale since it attracts the vain and wealthy, raising property values and the average income of its inhabitants. I guess that makes for good tourism too.

I did, though it's not clear (to me anyway, and to be honest I could just not be reading it correctly) if they are literally all competing against each other or if it's a team sport. Unless "free for all" is referring to individual competition and not Free For all as in the rules. (Was just looking at the score board and wasn't clear if they were scoring points individually since the way the Polar Bear and the Tiger in the background are fighting one another while the horse is the one with the actual ball, I would have assumed they all would just try to gang up on the one person who had the chance to score).
Man, can't imagine anyone makes a very long career in this sport... I'd imagine that new, inexperienced players are usually carried off the field in pieces after their first game unless they're either lucky or prodigies, that players that're either good enough or stick around for a long enough time to actually make enemies run the risk of being killed off by them simply to get rid of competition, and that there's a constant risk of being put in the hospital simply because an opponent happened, by either purpose or luck, to hit them in just the right place to tear a tendon or break a bone. All three of those things combined would probably make mincemeat of even the toughest players eventually...
Add those up and it's quite needless to say, this is just about the most amazing sport I've ever seen >:3

I think that's what makes the concept of brutal arena fighting exciting. The stakes are real, and we all want to see a champion come out on top or be challenged by new arrivals. This fills in what has been removed from our nature via live, visceral entertainment. After all, we love seeing violence and sex in media, since neither are necessary for survival in our overpopulated, civilized world.
Well, Zaush said it's a "free for all" where contestants commonly die on the field, so you'd think going for those big, gorgeous balls would be an obvious opening move. Or at least a desperation move when you're about to get killed. Whatevs, maybe the fact that those two are still intact is just a sign of how elite they are. (I'm just being a nerd here, haha )
I do not like to watch football (American, I am American so I call it football!) or Soccer (Football to everyone else), but this has naked, well built hunks beating each other up for a object, and since they bleed I can agree with that. I'd pay money to see this! I pay money to see a comic about this even! (Although I do not think that should be everyone taste..or maybe it would) Awesome work as always!
Great idea and concept but this brings up the same reason why we don't have gladtorial things existing in civilized society. Even though some things may be super dangerous there are always people working hard on safety and percontionary measures. I honestly don't care for sports, but when deaths are common sounds like legal murder.
On the next note though great work idea and concept. Love the art!

Wrestling is fun....till a bunch of people die. And friends and family mourn and people out cry and riot the operation.
But hey it's fictional I play lots of games based on hurting or killing things so have fun lol!
And that bs that violent games make a violent kid, well then there was something wrong with that kid before he started and even then you should have the common since to not let fiction become reality like that.

Is that zebra dying?! oh man, poor thing. i suppose he IS a 9 foot tall warrior who does this for his own enjoyment, but thats brutal. wouldn't want to see this sport irl, i agree with "heretowatch" .... but its cool in fiction.
seems like the rhino and bull would be the best though, and not a horse. They are both still fast, but bigger/beefy-er than a horse, and have horns! i suppose thats what makes this guy so special.
any elephants? they are slower but they could be more than 2X as big as the horse depending on how you choose to scale your animals. (now THATS some size difference!) which is another interesting thing about furrys that can make their world unique.

This isnt a criticism of the work (which is great), I'm just looking too deeply into it :
How is this fair? There should be heavyweight and mediumweight matches and so on. I mean theres having brutal matches and accepting death as an outcome, then theres just rigged matches like this. How are bare sharp horns even regulation? It's pretty difficult to think of any kind of wrestling where those wouldnt kill or incapacitate within seconds, even accidentally. Bulls, Rhinos, Elephants, horses like that one, should be in a league seperate from even big cats, which I would consider mediumweight. There are some species without such built-in weapons as the rhino. And that has no direct correlation with size/speed, so what we have here is a sport that is inherently imbalanced and unfair, based solely on species. Why would anyone who isnt a rhino, bull, or massochist ever play this game?

Consider for a moment that Janus is one of the league champions for this size class, and he has no offensive advantages to speak of. In his case, his speed and intelligence are a winning combination that net him a high score. I haven't detailed out the game on here, but a player's ability to take out foes does not make them a winner, and beside that the sport centers around gladiator-style matches where bloodshed brings a crowd.
i dont usually comment on things like this, specially cus i hate violence with an extreme passion but i have a couple things to say.
yer really good at painting xD everything in your gallery looks awesome.
and second, why are there such horrible safety precautions, if any, taken in this sport?
players with claws and horns would be at a huge advantage, look at the poor rhino guy or the zebra, which both just got gored by that prick bull right?
and there should be, even if "free for all", a height/weight system.
without those, it turns the "violent game" into a cruel blood sport. ya know the kind that has been illegal since like the 1900s.
that's something that totally goes unchecked in every sport picture i see.
-players with claws or horns should be forced to file them down or will not be allowed to participate.
-matches and games will be regulated by each player/team's average height/weight
and i don't even doubt that they have the ability to provide medical care or set in place strict rules. look at the city in the background, they're advanced to the point of being a first-world society, fully able to care for injured players.
no one would play if the game was this dangerous. i mean look at mma and boxing n shit. they get treated by medics in the middle of a match sometimes. between rounds, i mean.
in a game like this, preventing death or serious injury should be the number 1 priority.
sorry phew that just bugs me a lot. -expects to be blocked-

Why would a free-for-all-anything-goes blood sport like this be kosher? The same reason that made gladiator arenas so entertaining in ancient times, and even better, drawings have none of the real world consequences. There are incentives for these fictional characters, sure. Fame, money, women... Many extreme sports offer little more than bragging rights in return for narrowly avoiding death, something I would never do but certainly enjoy watching.
Anyway, I hope I didn't give the impression that this could ever be a real sport existing in this modern, sensitive, lawsuit encrusted society.
Anyway, I hope I didn't give the impression that this could ever be a real sport existing in this modern, sensitive, lawsuit encrusted society.
also, how would trying to keep people alive be "kosher" what. nobody would want to play a game where you would have a 90% change of dying. wth
and gladiator fights aren't entertaining ?? it was completely sick and twisted and they were forced to fight for their lives in an arena or die anyway by the emperor's soldiers.
many times the "bragging rights" aren't what the pay off is for these high contact sports like boxing and wrestling. from what i understand its a release in frustration and the chance to make yourself stronger. the money certainly isn't a drawback for them pros tho lol
if there is a game like this in any developped society it would be very super illegal or _extremely_ regulated in terms of safety. look at that mma or boxing stuff i mentioned. bareknuckle boxing has been illegal since the 1940s and even mma fighters wear gloves to cushion the blows. (only slighty though i guess lol)
and you say that the only reason sports like this don't exist is because of lawsuits? no, people have developed minds since ancient greece and have more or less grown out of that mindset that death = entertainment. ya see people getting hurt is funny in small doses, but this kind of stuff would usually trigger a shock and disgust reaction to people. they do not want to have anything to do with someone being murdered for sport anymore.
aw shit sorry this kind of stuff just bothers me i'll just stop replying before i say something dumb Dx

I guess you can think what you want, even apply your standards of morality to what is solidly a work of fiction, it is your right to have an opinion. I'm under no obligation to justify the existence of an assortment of pixels that came from my imagination, but that said, if it had some emotional effect on you then it may have aspired to even more than I thought it could.
