My father committed suicide 2 hours after taking prescription sleeping pills, I promise you it wasn't for attention. I used to think like you, it was self centered but after losing someone you start to think differently. It's not like he was hit by a bus, or lost to enemy fire thousands of miles away... he chose to take his own life. He decided his reasons were more important than how you felt. It's emotional and mental illness related, but the allowing of it to worsen, to fail to prevent yourself or seek out help. It's like getting told you have cancer that's treatable, but decide to waltz out of the doctor's office ignoring it. In not turning to friends and family, one is more likely to only hurt the people they care for.

In that sense, no matter what level of emotional distress, or state of mind is involved, there's a serious element of selfishness.

I can take a lot of shit from trolls, but that truly scared the living fuck out of me. And at the time I was only 11-12 years old. Otaku took on the "white knight" role for standing up against something he thought was wrong, and all the "black knights" came out of the woodwork to give their two cents on the situation.


So while we have so many trolls commenting on a single journal, could some of you clarify the situation for me?


According to k9k, the point of trolling is to get people to think about the situation in a different way, to "cut through the bullshit," as it were.

However, most of the the trolling I've seen is little more then insults or threats. As previously mentioned, these remarks or pictures are gauged to get the maximum reaction out of people.


One of the problems with this, is that people tend to loose control of their rational thought patterns when they're emotionally engaged. If blatantly insulting posts are left on a dead girl's page, readers won't intuitively read the story out of the insults, they'll feel even worse for the girl who's apparently being victimized even after death.

I can appreciate the desire to expose the truth in a screwed up situation, but why use language that only serves to alienate the very audience that you're trying to educate?

According to Otaku's journal entry, he didn't support Allan's actions or give Allan money; Otaku was trying to help Allan turn his life around, become a better person and stop the bullshit.

If Otaku supported Allan's actions, Otaku wouldn't be trying to change the way Allan acts. By trying to help change Allan, Otaku's trying to stop the actions everyone dislikes.

Personally, I think it's a bit naive, because people need to decide to change themselves first. If Allan hasn't matured internally enough to see the consequences of his actions, no help from anyone else will be able to change his mindset. I don't personally know the guy, but from seeing his posts and descriptions of his actions, it doesn't look like he's going to be changing any time soon.

As far as I can tell, Otaku's going off the idea that everyone; trolls, Allan, and all the drammaticals of the fandom, can learn the error of their ways, and mature into better people who will all be able to get along with a minimum of drama. Thus the journal entries detailing how to change in ways that minimize drama.

It's kind've idealistic and unrealistic, but I think that's what gives him the energy to sponsor the charity auctions and whatnot.

Helping someone get better is support. He's supporting him in changing. Allan won't change, it's clear.

That's the thing about humans and their egos. No matter how many times you tell them what they're doing wrong and what to do to change it, they won't budge because they know better. Not everyone suddenly changes their ways from simple words. It doesn't work like that all the time, and frankly the idea is preposterous. He thinks he's helping by telling people what they're doing wrong and stuff, but he's not. He's making the situation worse by amplifying it and setting himself open for ridicule. This isn't about helping others anymore, this is about Otakuman just blabbing about what he thinks is wrong and right. This journal wasn't about changing, it was preaching about the horrible people who troll the dead and their families, and how mean cyber-bullies are and how much of a felony it is to be relentlessly mean. Frankly all the parts about bettering yourself are subtle or non-existent.

The name of the movement should be changed, since all the "movement" ever does is do charity auctions and help with financial problems, which is far from "drama". It's called responsibilities we all have to go through. If you don't have money, then you did something or something happened to get you in that situation, and it's best you try to get yourself out of it. There is no drama behind it, it's just happenings that occur: good or bad.

I'm confused by the point of this group. If it's against drama, why does it constantly START drama?

Don't put an emphasis on my status im just like every other member here. Just because i get an @ beside my name doesn't change how i feel about something. I didn't like some of the things about this movement way before i became an admin. But my main reason is the fact that fa members who have proven themselves to be liars and thieves (Such as allan) somehow still validate as a candidate for support... really disheartens me about the movement as a whole.

I know what you mean..when it starting becoming a soapbox for Otaku, then I pretty much stopped caring. Good group idea, bad management/execution.

That was fun read. Can anyone remind me of how this is supposed to inhibit e-drama? Because from what I am reading, I think it is the doing the complete opposite since it is just feeding the trolls on the site.

I feel if there were legal control over speech on the internet, it'd choke out the very freedom people came to the internet for.

If you say things offline, you are subjected to legal, social, and physical consequences. You could become arrested, hated, or even beat or killed depending on where you are.

The internet is a place where anyone can(and will) say anything they want. Though that has it's negative sides, the instant you begin to restrict just a tiny bit of freedom, you ruin it. No longer are you free to say anything. Now you're free to say anything but X, X, and X.

If someone wants to shield themselves from the internet, they can do so by unplugging their computer.
