Behold, Rooth'ragon! :) I had lots of references of Rooth'ragon for nyface to work with, but the problem was that they each had their own flare. I try to allow some creative freedom with my commissions, and because of that, there were quite a few variations, some of which have been incorporated here (gradient on trailing wing edge, tufts of hair on his joints). I don't really mind that, but for making a base reference, it made things a little tricky. But actually, nyface just about nailed it on the first sketch, with only minor tweaks needed after that. And the great thing is, the only real difference between his feral and anthro forms is his shape/morphology. All the other details carry over pretty well. So this will be a great ref sheet indefinitely. :)
I can't begin to explain how happy I am with this! As mentioned in the reference for Rooth'roo, nyface was very gracious about all the back-and-forths that come with developing a character reference. I was as pleased with the process as I was with the result.
Ny is currently closed for commissions (actually, open-but-full? Ask her!), but if you have a feral character or feral form, I highly recommend keeping a watch on her!
*) Feral version of Rooth'ragon.
*) Can be any size, from micro to cosmic.
*) FA samples (most recent first)
Most common corrections:
*) where the tailtuft starts, it starts all around the tail tip, not just dorsal and ventral
*) vanes/panels of earsails (count often doesn't match ref image)
*) Rooth has his own web page
*) Rooth's own journal post, describing personality and such, with links to sample images

O_O No way! *goes to look* Oh, wow, they are very similar. Yours are more of a band while Rooth's is more of a gradient, that in this image is also on the leading edge of the wing. But yes, we are really similar in the wings. :) Actually, Rooth didn't originally have a gradient in his wings (they were pure white) until a few years ago when Lizardbeth made me a badge and put in the gradient on a whim. I liked how it came out, so I sort of adopted it for this reference.
Thanks! Although all gratitude goes to nyface
Scale is 1" = 1 mile. Or maybe 1" = 1". Both characters are size-shifters. ;) Rooth'roo's reference described typical heights for his species, but did not actually describe his own height. Which is why I left it open-ended. Rooth'roo is typically in the giant-to-macro range, though if he has friendly normal-sized company, he'll shrink down to normal size. Rooth'ragon is typically about 10 meters long and 5 meters high when in feral form, though he's been witnessed as small as a fire-lizard (shoulder-sized), and as large as a station wagon. A moon-sized station wagon. His anthro form is typically human-sized (on the tall side, on account of being digitigrade and having huge feet), but as you'll see in my gallery, there's a story developing involving him in anthro form but as big as a building.
