RipRoarRex's Realm v3.0 - Home Banner (NEW SITE LAUNCHED!)
Dated 31/10/2012
The homepage banner for my website, RipRoarRex's Realm, following a major revamp in October/November 2012. It features all twelve of my original characters.
Click the names below to visit each character's profile page.
Rexar - Tydo - Rocky - Cassie - Mike - Marco - Carlos - Hux - Skyra - Seb - Bubba - Tembe
NOTE - Seems the site might run a bit slowly for a while if there are a lot of visitors! I'm afraid I don't control the server; only the site!
MY BRAND NEW WEBSITE IS FINALLY COMPLETE!
After several months of work, RipRoarRex's Realm v3.0 is finally live. Improvements on the previous site include a modern layout and design, improved navigability, new character artwork and biographies, a brand new Tutorials section and a revamped About page, as well as a spiffy new homepage!
Both previous incarnations of the website, v1.0 (2007-2008) and v2.0 (2008-2012) were designed using a very buggy free piece of software called NVu, and both were constructed using a WYSIWYG approach with tables. However, having taught myself some HTML and CSS back in late 2009, I became unhappy with the clumsy way my site was constructed and have been planning a total revamp for about two years now. I was also tired of the old banner and character profile artwork, all of which was done in April 2008 and now looks very dated compared to my current style.
As such, anyone who has been following my journals recently will be aware that I have spent much of the past couple of months creating new profile artwork for all of my characters, of which the individual images will be uploaded to my FA shortly. Each character was drawn, coloured, shaded and textured individually before being pasted into this full compilation image, which is now being used on the new homepage.
The new website is also significantly improved in its construction. Rather than using the lazy WYSIWYG editor in NVu, I started using Adobe Dreamweaver CS5.5 (which I bought earlier in the year) and began coding the entire thing from the ground up in HTML and CSS Stylesheets. This is the first time I have taken on such a project on a pure coding basis and as such, it has been a very steep learning curve, but I am very happy with the results.
Obviously the site is still very new and I have only been able to carry out limited testing so far. However, from what I have tested, the site displays pretty much identically and - for the most part - correctly in most browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera). If you do find any bugs or errors however, feel free to send me a note or an email and I will try to fix the problem as soon as possible.
(On a random note, does anybody know any websites that host six-digit hit counters? Mine is only a five-digit counter but my site has now had over 300,000 hits since 2007, and I'm getting a bit annoyed with having to manually add the first digit to stop it looking like it's resetting itself to 00000 each time it clocks up another 100k!)
So please don't hesitate to check out my new site - and I hope you enjoy browsing!

Well for 1, it is VERY well layed out =3 2, I love how you've done simple profiles for each character but each with a unique personality but also set them out into their own groups too =3 After looking around it, overall, you've created a fantastic looking site! Well done!
Thanks very much! The composition took quite a lot of planning and I couldn't really be sure all the components were going to come together how I wanted until it was time to construct this image. Pleased that people think it looks good though.
Have you had a look at the site yet?

Thanks mac! It was the first time I'd ever attempted giving Hux a texture like that.
If you're interested, check out the Tutorials page on my website - there's a Youtube video there that shows me applying the texture and shading on that image, which I'll soon be posting here on FA too.

Heh - well Dino's been letting me host on the LD5 server since the beginning so I've kept things as they are. Unfortunately there have been traffic and outage issues in the past - a couple of months ago,
diablotherex posted links here and on other sites to an animation he was hosting on the LD5 server, and the whole thing practically ground to a halt for two days!
Still, I'm grateful for the space. Otherwise the site couldn't exist at all!

Ah - actually, I don't RP. (It's something I get asked quite a lot, hence I actually included it on my new About page, funnily enough!)
Thanks for your interest though.

Thanks CK! Glad you liked the tutorials! I've been running tutorials over on Eccentricities for some time now (The Colour Prep Tutorial was actually written on Eccentricities last year) but I felt it was time to incorporate them into my website.
I take it you've seen the video as well then? I'll be posting that here soon too.

Heh - oh yes, I shall be going into plenty of detail about the particular trials and tribulations I had with that picture - and the others - when I post the hi-res versions (probably some time on Saturday)...
Still, glad you like how it came out in the end - makes it feel more like it was worth it! Lol!
Thanks very much!

What a great compilation. During the years I really became a kind of fanboy of some of this characters. XD
But my favourite is still Rocky and apparently that's why I think his profile artwork is the best. ;)
The site is done well and easier to navigate than your former ones! *thumbs up*
