Portraits (Busts)Portraits or Busts of characters - generally chest-up - done in either Black & White pencils, Inked pencils (B&W), or Color (with or without shading and textures or cellshaded). This category is a simple, quick one-off type of commission, focusing on a profile of your character.
While the example link isn't specifically a bust work per se, it's a good example of what to expect from this category.
$2 a pop, regardless of pencil, inked, or colored. Linework can be done as vectors if asked for.

Profile SheetsProfile Sheets, encompassing a front/back view of a pose, and a full palette of colors and facial rotations. Design shown in example is a somewhat earlier design; future designs, I hope to update with textured backgrounds and more textured facial rotations.
* Pages can be either nude or clothed (although artful nude displays body patterns more accurately). *
$3 a pop, and can be done either in pencil, uncolored inks, colored hand drawn, or vector art colored; colored sheets can be with or without cellshading.

Price varies by type:
* Pure pencils (no. 2 mechanical or graphite sketch) or India inks: $3
* Computer-traced linework: $4
* Vector: $5
Prices scaled by difficulty; time per piece is usually between 15-60 minutes for pencils, inks, and traced inks, but can be several hours for vector.
Specify if pencils, hand drawn traced lines, or vector lines are preferred in the commission note.

Inked & Colored Digital Works (Clean)Fully inked and colored artwork commissions, full scene, full background, textures plus cellshading (if asked for), clean subject matter, single panel or scene. Work can be either hand drawn, traced linework, or vector linework. This particular example is hand drawn and traced lines, cellshaded, but only partly textured. Note this is an older work, with less-advanced shading technique used.
Price varies by size ordered:
* Computer-traced inks: $5
* Vector: $8
Price is scaled via difficulty and time; time per piece is anywhere from 1-2 hours through 5-6 hours for traced inks, to upwards of ten hours (give or take) per vector piece, so you're essentially paying about $1 an hour, on average, for vector works, even though they're my most time-demanding and intensive works to produce.
Specify if either hand drawn traced lines or vector lines are preferred in the commission note.

ComicsFull-page, full-scene, and fully scripted comic commissions, done in either newspaper style or American graphic novel/comic style. Commissions can be either black & white pencils or inks, or full-color hand-drawn traced inks with or without cellshading. The linked example is of a much earlier style.
!!! Price is Per Page. !!!
$5 per Page if Black & White, $7 per Page if Color. The additional cost over other commissions includes time spent scripting, laying out, and modifying to reach a final product.
However, there are volume discounts for large orders:
* B&W Deals: 5 for $15 ... 10 for $30 ... 15 for $50 ... 20 for $75.
* Color Deals: 5 for $20 ... 10 for $50 ... 15 for $75 ... 20 for $100.
The process for buying a Comic Commission is to send me a Note first, then we'll exchange contact information. Next, I'll either obtain a copy of or write a script for your commission, then confirm it with you (or have it approved by you) before I begin on the layouts. Pencil layouts will *always* be confirmed before work begins on final "hard-lining", coloring, etc., and in particular, texting. Large orders can be compacted into a pdf file if desired for no extra cost.
Important notice: Vector linework is *Not Available* for Comic Commissions; it's too time-consuming to be effective in a volume environment.
Summary:
* $5 per Page if Black & White (pencils or inks)
* $7 per Page if Colored (pencils or inks)
* Volume Discounts as noted above.
Time per page is anywhere from 1 to 2 hours, depending on the level of detail. Time spent scripting can vary. The linked example took a couple dozen hours to produce, all told, but comics done in my most recent style are likely to take longer, as there is much more detail per panel. For example, a 20-page request is liable to take as much as 30-50 hours of work to complete, and possibly a couple weeks or longer.

WatercolorWatercolor paintings, full scene, full color palette. Available on either letter-sized cardstock for scanning (8.5"x11"), or larger posterboard or canvas for possible mailing.
* Prices do not include shipping nor framing; that is an additional cost that would have to be added if buyer wishes to have the original painting in their possession. *
Pricing varies by size ordered:
* 8.5"x11": $7
* 11"x14": $10
* 14"x22": $15
* Small Canvas Board: $40
* Large Canvas Board: $50
Prices include materials, paint plus board/paper. Canvas board is nooot cheaaap; once you go to that medium, you're honestly paying much more for the canvas board than the commission itself.
Layouts will always be confirmed with buyer before painting begins, either via scan if possible or via photo.

Pornographic CommissionsPornographic Commissions, where the basic price is for a one-off, full scene, full background with no character limit commission and optional cellshading for no additional charge.
Black & White Pencils, India Inks, or Computer-traced linework: $7
Colored Pencils, Traced Inks: $10
Vector linework: $15
While Pricing does not include any extra cost for comic-style commissions, there may be a $5 surcharge per Page for commissions that call for doujinshi-style comic layouts and storylines, or graphic novel-style layouts and storylines, particularly when such commissions would increase the complexity of the commission.
!!! There is no volume discounting for Pornographic Commissions. !!!
Pricing is higher for Pornographic Commissions partly because of the Mature nature of them, and partly because I *will* be more careful and pay more attention to detail, possibly adding some time to its completion timeframe.
Commissions of this type can be simple pencils (with or without text), simple inks or traced inks (with or without text), or vector linework (with or without text). The Example is full vector linework, textured and cellshaded; this particular piece encompassed between 5 and 10 hours to complete (my memory escapes me), so your Price Per Hour could be anywhere from an effective $3 to as little as $1.
Notice: I don't do scat, cub, loli, nor piss. Pretty much everything else is on the table, though, including guro of almost every type; I'm not particularly picky, I just won't do anything that even approaches child porn.

Story CommissionsFor all the art on this account, I consider myself first and foremost an author. It's what I'm best at, and it's the skill that I've most completely mastered so far... I'm fairly sure I've blown well past the 10,000-hour barrier a long time ago.
So, I now offer story commissions of any size and type... trashy romance? No problem. Action novella? I got yer back. Political thrillers? I'm afraid that's classified, sir. Tease fiction or hardcore porn? That's in the room behind the curtain...
Anything you want, anything you need, I can do, with almost no exceptions*. Price is exceedingly simple: a penny a word for short stories, two cents a word for anything that becomes a novella or longer.
That's it.
Price does not - also - include titles, headings, and formatting characters in the word count.
The pricing, therefore, is entirely dependent on the size of project you're looking for... the example linked is a 356-word short story - not including titles and formatting - with embedded cellshaded colored traced ink work, so this story would cost a whopping $3.56 (not including the cost of a custom background image and embedded image). Each commission will receive the full, commercial-style treatment, meaning I'm basically going to pay as much attention to it as I would a work that I would intend to send off to a major publisher for consideration... and that entails a full first draft, a complete revision for content and errors, a second revision for content and errors, and at least one (but possibly two or three) complete proofreadings - what I call "proofings". The intent will be to bring the work as closely in line with what you would expect from a major commercial writer as I possibly can.
The linked work is the best example I have on FA of my fully commercial style; I have a pending submission to the Caves of Narshe of a fanfiction novel, but it's not yet been processed and posted. Stay tuned for that one.
My prices scale based on size; I charge a penny per word up until 5,000 words; after 5,000 words, it goes to two cents a word.
Example cost scale:
500 words: $5
1000 words: $10
5000 words (short story/tiny novella): $100
10000 words (novella): $200
20000 words (long novella): $400
40000 words (longer novella): $800
75000 words (fantasy/scifi/romance novel): $1500
100000 words (epic novel): $2,000
Professional ghost writers would charge you much more than that, I imagine.
I tend to work at a pace between 1000 and 2000 words an hour, so depending on how simple the piece, demanding in scope, or inspired I am, it can take as little as a solid two or three hours to write, revise, and proof your commission before declaring it ready for approval... so for a 1000 word short story, you can end up basically paying $3 an hour for my time and effort.
Final product will and/or can be a pdf or Openoffice document, with or without custom background and custom page sizing (say, for example, U.S. Trade hardcover 6" x 9", or U.S. Trade paperback [A format] 4.33" x 7.01").
Note also that though I prefer to write in present tense - and in a specific style, often informal and occasionally breaking the fourth wall, bending numerous grammatical and syntactical rules along the way - I can easily write in more traditional prose; past tense, 3rd person omniscient or first-person past tense, for example.
All stories are likely to be bylined "Story by [commissioner], Written by KL Sanchez", except as specifically requested (within reason).
One last notice: Note that even though I have the options listed up there as examples, once you start getting into the realm of a major novella or novel, copyright considerations might start to become a problem... anything of that size or demanding of that kind of commitment come with questions: do you intend to sell this thing commercially? Are you seeking a ghost writer for this project? Do you intend to - Heaven forbid - take credit for writing it and try to publish it on your own? Not that I'm opposed to ghost writing such projects if it'll pay some bills around here, but I would like to know what I'm spending so much time on... and if I am ghost writing a large project, I'll likely just reduce the workload to a simpler consideration... possibly, for example, a single draft where I leave revising and proofing in your own hands, at a reduced price. Not that I would intend to be a dick, just that in most cases, a ghost writer's work will end up being revised to all Hell and modified extensively anyways, so I see no need to burn so much of my time and effort on it, especially if all you really need is someone to hammer out a draft you can work with on your own to produce a work of your own design; I only spend so much time as I laid out above if I'm producing a work that's ready to print right away, without further editing.
---
* My only exceptions are hardcore (or even softcore) pornographic works involving characters under the age of 18. As far as porn itself goes, I don't do scat nor piss. Graphic violence involving children is a grey area... so grey it's almost black; this needs to be discussed beforehand. Nearly everything else is on the table, though. |
