This is my first attempt using a "Sunsoft bass" DPCM instrument. I've done DPCM effects before, but this is something new. You see, when chiptuners say "Sunsoft bass," they're usually referring to the effect used in the music of the various 1990s NES games made by Sunsoft, which used the DPCM channel for a bass instrument, and used the triangle wave channel only for percussion kicks. For Space Armada, I sampled and tuned three timpani notes at C, C# and D in Audacity, imported them as DPCM samples in FamiTracker, then used the DPCM frequency register table to extrapolate all the other notes I needed.
I've also figured out new tricks with the noise channel to make more realistic-sounding snare drums using the instrument arpeggio settings.
Sequenced in FamiTracker using the MMC5 chipset. I opted not to use the VRC6 this time because I didn't have any use for the sawtooth channel.
