Creative Process of Creature Design
A series of doodles I started doing called Creative Process of Creature Design. Basically, if I want to make a creature that looks super original, I draw the skull first and sorta "feel out" the rest. Makes for some really unique critters.
Usually I start with a basic concept of its diet - such as "general carnivore", "insectivore", "grass-munching herbivore", etc. Then I start drawing a skull that expresses adaptations that facilitate that diet, gradually drawing inspiration from various creatures that also eat the diet I've picked out. Then I draw a version that has a layer of muscle, fat, cartilage, etc. to help fill out any soft tissue that might get forgotten about to avoid shrink-wrapping the final design. Then I sketch the final design with skin, hair, and whatever other details I think could look cool, along with my own little shitty jokes and commentary, haha.
