i need to make a website!

i need to make a website, so i could post my work in a more personal setting, that only a .com can bring.
i don't exactly need help making it so thats not what this is about.
the hope would be that someone sees it, needs a job done and wala i have a customer. this would really handy considering i plan on continuing schooling while living with my mate ^_^, and be able to do some kind of work without having to put myself in a very stressful situation.
which will allow me to add more to my portfolio then school stuff, i am a bit better then my work shows, however am a lame self starter XD
whats your guys opinion on this?

in February i'll have an associate degree for it. --wags tail--
though there are a few things i have to brush up on like in-Design, video editing ( adobe after effects)and web development XD
but that's nothing to complicated seeing how i already took the courses and got my paws wet in prior to. however the additional schooling would be more for the graphic design end of it all (photo shop, illustrator, in design, and flash)
just need some projects to whip myself into shape ^_^
