Here Come the Mummies

Saw them this weekend and I’d highly recommend them if they ever come to your area. Funk band that’s ten guys in mummy costumes with a fantastic live show. Despite the spooky theme and visuals most of their songs are dumb dirty jokes (like kiss LOL) but consistently solid and they have some amazing stage antics and bizarre instrument solos (they’re all very technically skilled and supposedly session musicians in disguise for contractual reasons). There’s angle grinders, flute beatboxing, and a dual-wielding saxophone duel which is quite the combo. Also some furry cred for having two guys in Anubis heads who have drum battles with the band in a few songs.
Their opening band was Yam Yam which isn’t as wild performance-wise but very nice mostly instrumental jazz-funk, it’s nice background music for something kind of interesting and atmospheric but not too distracting.
Definitely the best $25 I’ve spent.
Makes me want to dust off the idea I’ve had of making an animal mummy character since it would be cool and unique and relatively easy to make since you could just use straps of old sheets for wrappings.
