Hm next year won’t be the year of fur cons after all
2 years ago
Not for any negative reason, I’m just enjoying my trip to Germany way too much and want to go back to Europe again ASAP, and I get more out of it than cons. I was strongly considering Megaplex next year but…. Berlin tho, or exploring more places
Still planning to do ANE since it’s in a really dead area of winter I need SOMETHING to look forward to in and AC is a strong consideration since I get July 4th-5th off anyways and it’s fairly convenient. I was thinking about Furrydelphia but again, I just would rather travel tbh.
I might look into pathways for working abroad for a couple years tbh. Not really shooting for permanent residence or anything but living somewhere actually designed for humans vs cars massively improves my mental health, screw all this wanking about feelings and the bandaid of meds. I don’t have the career to make New York or any of the really dense desirable US cities work, I’m a manufacturing engineer and not a particularly impressive one at that. It’s not really a career field that pays well enough to live alone in those places and factories are mostly outside urban cores anyways. Might see if my company has any pathways since it’s got locations all over. Language would definitely be a hurdle but tbh the feeling of being an outsider really doesn’t bother me since I feel alienated in the US anyways, I feel like an alien basically everywhere because I’m just too weird for a lot of people.

FA+

any place with a land, eh eh england maybe I wasn't too impressed with it the first time [besides the french food]
Plans are not even remotely cemented but right now I’m thinking maybe Netherlands and/or parts of northern Germany I didn’t do, also really wanna go back to Berlin because it’s a fascinating place. But probably somewhere around north/western Europe, probably around September again since weather is still good and crowds are lesser. But I also really wanna do Park Asterix in France because I’ve heard it’s good and it has what was once voted the world’s worst roller coaster but it has a cult following among some people with similar tastes to me. Decisions, decisions
Yeah I hate driving and while Deutsche Bahn can be a mess at times, I’ll take a train over a car basically any time, ESPECIALLY in a foreign country with potentially unfamiliar signs. Didn’t have many issues other than with a fairly late local train in a non-touristy area with construction causing a mess, most places in Germany are very well connected by rail and I think NL is similar.
I do want to put more effort into learning German for next time/the future because I really wish I could read/communicate better there, there’s a lot about the general culture I really mesh with but I’m stuck in Link mode pointing and grunting or feel entitled asking if they can speak English. Other than one late-night train shitshow I didn’t have issues with my “80 day duolingo streak” level getting around Broken English/vague understanding of German grammar and some words was enough to generally buy stuff combined with pointing, nodding, and going “OK”
Knowing enough pronunciation to not look like a buffoon saying names of things probably goes a long way with Dutch lol
I may look into a more serious German course since I do like the idea of going there for grad school or work and I’d definitely need good proficiency for that
don't really know any one who speaks dutch
