When it comes to feral art I like it more realistic. Anthro art I like more cartoony.

I feel that art is a very emotional subject. I've seen artists struggle with the same questions you have, but decided to rather "perform for the audience" than to be happy for themselves. If you pay close attention, you will notice how the quality of the art declines over time. It never ends well.

I love your art, and I love your style. But I would hate to see you go down the road where you are not happy with your own art anymore.

Do what makes you happy! Certainly you will have some closed-minded people here and there who can not adjust to the change, but even more people will come when they see that an artist is working on his projects with passion!

I do love to draw for commissions and I enjoy the types of things I draw still! But I feel its hard to experiment so much if the viewers and buyers expect it to be a certain style > < I appreciate your comment, it makes me happy that others will support me anyway

Personally I love your cartoony style and think it's rather unique and stands out. Many artists tend to not like the end results of their art, if anything it's the artists curse.

That being said, I also like for artists to have fun and enjoy what they are doing. If you want to explore other styles then I say go for it! Personally though I think offering both realistic and cartoony might be the best way to retain your current commissioners since many have most likely come to you for your unique style.

Key to you being successful as an artist is being able to draw what you love and not get burnt out from doing styles you less enjoy.

Could try doing both styles, offering the pair side by side as people have a preference? Until you are comfier with the more detailed one

This is highly relatable, as I am in the exact same boat as you when it comes to wanting to draw in two different art-styles but constantly find myself compromising in between the two and in the end not always satisfied with the final product. So I fully understand how you feel about wanting to do both and be happy about it at the same time.

I personally wouldn't mind if you had a change in art-style, I think you are a phenomenal artist and I believe you will make great art either way you decide to go. As for the commission/business side of things you could offer both realistic and stylish, and potentially an in between like you do now. I think that would be the most ideal outcome if you don't want to lose commissioners. You may potentially gain even more commissioners since you would be offering a wider variety of styles. I feel that this is the best way to keep your current clientele happy and gain more along the way. But for this to work successfully, assuming you choose this route to begin with, be as transparent as possible about it. Make the change gradual and slow so it doesn't become a shock to your clients.

As a side note, do what you enjoy how you enjoy it. I know it sounds cliche but its true. What's the point of doing something you have a passion for in a way that makes it less enjoyable. Do art in a way that makes you happy and all worth while in the end, so you wont regret it in the future.

There is a client base for you no matter which style you choose to draw in. Don't do something because of a perceived notion you need to please others. Do what you like, and people who like it will find you. If you bend to the will of what other people want, instead of what you want, you will be miserable.

I didn't think of it that way but your right. Even if I lose some commissioners, others could show up instead who like the new style more. I'm going to try to experiment more to what makes me happy, thank you!

I think a big thing is that you don't have to restrict yourself to one art style, many artists draw in several different styles that are still distinguishable as "theirs". I have my NSFW filter on so I don't see it anyways but I think you would do a good job pulling off both styles.

I agree, I think it will be ok to offer both styles. I will make a comparison experiment to see how people feel and upload it, it will be SFW so maybe you can see it still!

FWIW I love your toony style, it's soft and charming in a way I don't see often and it's what drew me to your art. But, in the end it really comes down to what makes you happy. Art is never just one or the other, you try things out, find what works and what doesn't and then change it again just 'cause. Art is a journey and the cool thing about a journey is that it doesn't have to have a destination. If you want to try out something more realistic, go for it. But do it for you, not what you think other people will like. It's good to get advice from your peers, but in the end, this is all just conjecture and it's your own feelings that count the most. Take a chance, and if you don't like it, it always makes good practice!

As for the commissions, maybe start out offering both styles, dabble in that for a while and see how it goes. I'm rooting for ya either way, you're a fantastic artist and I'd love to see where you go from here.
