Open commissions regardless of skill. That excuse cannot work for 10 years! Even if you think your skill is low, that means you won't get many commissions, so not much added work anyway, you get the benefit of making some extra money, and you help someone make an idea a reality. If it's work load you're worried about, you have full control of how many commissions you decide to take. Heck just take 1, it at least helps open the brainstorming tank and gives you ideas of things you might not otherwise think about, thus challenging you, thus improving your art. People do not mind paying for that, regardless of quality, as long as it gets done, and if you're just taking one thing at a time, that's no sweat. All of the answers are here, it's up to you to take that step however. A lot of artists overthink the specifics when it's really super straightforward.
