*hugs* Hang in there. Sometimes the best thing to do when it comes to world events is to set it aside and focus on what's right around you, family, friends, neighborhood, community, etc...

*hugs* I'm trying, but it's not easy when it feels like an attack on all that. I don't want friends and family hurt.

We've all had to deal with losses in the political world. We are not promised a perfect world, and we should always be humble enough to admit that we don't even know what that world would even truly look like. Work locally for the betterment of your community and roll with the punches.

And keep in mind, Supreme Court decisions that are significant tend to wait until the end of the term to get released, so you have five or six months as it is.

We've never rolled back rights, though. And even if we cannot agree on such, I would hope we could agree that rolling back any right gained is a dangerous precedent to set given the potential cascade it could cause. After all, it took the national guard to get little girls to school because of discriminatory policies--and the rulings made on those could just as easily be turned back as any other.

I know, but that only means more waiting to see whether my fears of disaster are founded or not.

Oh, we have rolled back "rights" before. When competing interests exist, there is always a balance of rights to consider. And sometimes, it means fixing a terrible mistake. Sometimes it means making another mistake.

If Roberts decided to write the ruling, then he's most likely going to moderate the impact to precedent. But honestly, bringing our laws on this subject more in line with the rest of the Western world is not going to cause disaster. If matters are returned to the states, then we'll have an opportunity in real time to see what shifts in public policy at the state level will do. Patience and humility on this, Indy. We are not so wise as to see all ends.

I'd feel better about the state level if it were not for historical events that showed that, sometimes, they need to be forced to do things because they will not willingly treat all people as equals. As for the Western world, if you include places like Hungary and Poland in that, you can more easily see why I have great fear of the future.

We may not have the wisdom to see all ends, but we can look to the past and present and see patterns that, if they do not repeat exactly, certainly bear a family resemblance to one another. For my part, I would be extremely happy to be proven wrong in all these dark thoughts.

There are times when that is true, no doubt. But there are also times when seeing things happening state by state, if we can look with as little bias and preconceived notions as possible, that we can see a good comparison with how well differing approaches work and the consequences of various policies. And be wary of news reports about places you don't live; there are layers of bias and narrative that obscure the truth. Get more on the ground perspectives first (and definitely not just from a single source).

I think you are definitely going to be proven wrong in those dark thoughts, but certain sectors of society are going to try and pretend like they're true and will twist facts to show that just to keep folks in a moral panic. And that's one pattern of history we are repeating much to our society's detriment. Take a deep breath and trust God; men are always going to disappoint.

Things have come to a head lately. Politically, a lot of things have been rolling in, and at work a lot of folks have been having a bad time. Additionally, it seems many folk have lost any sense of common courtesy.

This is the pendulum on the downswing. We will see it swing back up eventually.
