I kinda see this as a win for both Xbox and Activision, myself. Xbox will beef up Game Pass, an already spectacular service, and Activision will be set straight by Microsoft (I hope). Let’s be honest, after 2021, Activision, or at least Blizzard, severely needs course correction after everything. I’m hoping this leads to better content from Activision across the board, because you don’t spend 68 billion usd to have them sit on their hands, after all. It’s the same with the Bethesda deal- for example, Fallout 76 has had more consistent quality patches and content since their acquisition.

You might have to eventually get a Microsoft account though, yes. It feels a little more seamless that way, though, in my opinion, no need to have a bunch of different accounts. Of course, that’s just personal preference.

I have an MS account, however I don't want to be forced to install Windows 11 to play my games. Microsoft already does this by restricting Direct X to the latest version of Windows when its released, and this new XBOX requirement will force you to have the XBOX metro app constantly active watching everything you do continuously.

My brother is the type to praise this because he’s an Xbox elitist. He won’t even acknowledge how this will isolate a large chunk of the fanbase if they make everything Xbox exclusive moving forward.

Microsoft also releases Games on Steam nowadays, so you'd only need the Windows Store for Xbox Game Pass subscription-based games.
Plus with what has been going on with Activision and Blizzard, that's probably the best thing that can happen to them after their shitty behavior. And hey, maybe COD might become good again (Kappa)

Anything can be released on steam and still have 3rd party restrictions that prevent you from playing the game if you don't agree to them. Only you can't refund them if the third party system decides to reject you later.

I mean they bought Bethesda. Don't see myself needed to do any of that doom and gloom preaching to play fallout, elder scrolls or Doom. They run just fine on my PC through Steam or Bethesda's own launcher.

End of the day it's more game for less money for me thanks to game pass so screw it let Ms buy out everyone. Hopefully EA is next or smaller studios like fromsoft, might actually get a new armoured core game then instead of yet another dark souls reskin.

I love how everyone is saying that this acquisition will somehow "isolate a large chunk of the fanbase" whereas Bethesda, having games still on Playstation, as well as Mojang also, completely invalidates these arguments; even the current Microsoft CEO said there is no intention of disenfranchsing current Playstation return customers; the only reason these claims are being brought up is because Sony refuses to allow indy developers, as well as major studios, to make the games they want, instead prioritizing 3A games over as wide and diverse a library of choices compared to Xbox Gamepass

I'm just not too happy with Microsoft, with how they handle Windows 10 and all the forced updates that are basically rape packages to your machine. Wake up one morning, find out your machine updated without your permission, uninstalled apps you use, installed new metro bullshit you don't want, and closed the 36 hour long encoding you had active and lost all the progress on.

So far, my Xbox One games are the Arkham series, Assassin's Creed: Unity, Mortal Kombat 11 and Injustice 2. I currently have a gold membership and, so far, no problems at all.

Even if they bring these games to steam, you're still locked into the launcher. They won't dispose of the launcher. It'll just be launched through steam. Like Origin games are.
