Best Way to Get An Artist To Follow a Reference

Keep Your Promises, Especially To Yourself.
So this has been a long time thing with many artists...
While forgetting one or two things here and there is understandable, a large number of artista over the years have seemed to not reference the provided reference sheet. Mentioning the correction needed gets it done no harm no foul... But im one guy and when there are so many details (and artists tend to only be around when i am at work) that i sometimes miss even glaring issues while focusing on the many others.
So, what do artists look for in a reference? Would a checklist of common mistakes made before along with it be wise?

Adherence to striping pattern, placement and style of the scaly/thorny featues of shoulders, etc., I relax about - since artistic interpretation of these features has often resulted in surprisingly better (or at least damn good) variations on that theme. On at least one occasion, I've chosen to carry the artistic interpretation forward as a future reference.
The new 3D model Kobuld and I have collaborated on has also changed some features of Unk to vary from reference, and again represent something I like better with him. I likely need to generate an orthogonal reference along with a 3/4 profile pose reference off this model.
