It seems like a weird trend to ban things in Russia now
At first it seemed just to cut off trade to put pressure on Putin to rethink his actions but now it just seems harsh and cruel with EVERYONE trying to join in on it
Im American and to be short our history does not paint the Russians in good light but we're all people just the same and is it really fair to destroy the lives of people who have no say in what their ruler is doing? Theres just a lot of thoughts and emotions to go with this
No one wants a war because then it dehumanizes and once that happens it makes it easy to see other people as evil and barbaric and i try to pride myself on being a good person, but being good people dont win wars sadly
Judging by how the "military operation" in Ukraine is going on, the bad people of the war don't win either. xD
Yes, this is a cancellation culture, now people refuse to work with Russia simply because of "reputation". I am very grateful to all those who use Furrafinity and who write words of support to Russians and Ukrainians in this situation
Putin is literally trying to both revive the former "glory" of the Soviet Union, and to effectively turn his country into a larger version of North Korea--thatvis, isolated from the rest of the world and echoic to his old rhetoric that demonizes Western rationales of thinking. If he withdraws from Ukraine, he looks weak. If he takes Ukraine now, it does nothing but destabilize Europe even more. The Game plan is to force the rest of the world to the bargaining table to cease what he views as an attack on the old ways of life.
I believe a lot of the restrictions are performative in essence unfortunately. The term "economic siege" is being used but the fact is, per the reasons you described in your post, this isn't really affecting the upper class in charge.
I would guess the idea is to impose them to get citizens outraged enough to protest but few realize that it's not that simple since that's illegal there (as far as I have been told)
On the second day of the military operation, it was allowed to shoot at Russian protesters
Now a law has appeared that prohibits the spread of fakes (well, we understand who decides what is fake and what is not), it is forbidden to express dissatisfaction and all that
As i support Ukraine people for what happen and all the horrible thing my ukraine friend share to me and hard to watch i sad for the russian who dont want to do that and suffer because of some stupid general who want to play with their toys if they want to fight so bad they can go themself on the battlefield tho i admit i get piss off to the few russian who think this war is necessary or ukraine get what they deserve.
Lockdown peaceful protestor is stupid, i wish you to be safe you who dont want this stupid war and know what happen right now is wrong *bear hug*
On the one hand the privateering is hilarious so far on the yachts and properties the oligarchs own in other countries as well as the freezing of money the Russian government has hidden in banks in other countries in that countries currency for this exact situation(the idea would be to pull the funds to have more buying power when sanctions of this level hit). On the other... not so great for the average person. The gang pile on everything is unfortunately the "easy win" for corporation's that are trying to get good will with the last few years of doing horrible things to their customers in the name of "shortages" and "inflation" since people have a five second memory so long as they get something else to be angry at. I don't agree with it, just I worked retail. I've seen the evils that corps will do for the bottom line.
I feel like most of these measures have gone too far. I even heard something that Russians can't enter their cats into a competition of some sort. The problem is Putin and the war, not the Russian people, who from what I have seen here on FA and elsewhere, have no desire for war. It breaks my heart seeing so many Russian Artists and others have to struggle over all this. I hope things return to normal for all of you soon, and I hope all that is currently going on does not create animosity in anyone's heart.
This has been both sad and absolutely infuriating to watch. I can't believe there are people who are ignorant enough to think any of this has ANY meaningful effect on the war whatsoever. Everything I'm seeing is just hurting innocent civilians for no reason, civilians under a government which 1) isn't being affected by these actions, and 2) is well-known for not representing its people's views.
I'm so sorry for you, and everyone else, who's dealing with this terrible war and the response to it. I wish you all the very best, stay safe. 🤍

My prayers go out for a swift resolution to this needless suffering, so that the innocent on both sides can return to their lives and families.
