My biggest fear has always been.. isolation.
I know the history of my country, and I have always been frightened by the circumstances of the past. What is it like? Living behind the Iron Curtain?
The very first association is a prison. And you - imagine that you do not exist. No one from the OUTSIDE thinks about what is happening to you INSIDE. They just don't care. And this is not an accusation, it's just a fact that I accept. And I would do the same, because I would be busy with my free (as far as possible) life.
And I was busy with it. But there is one small "but". I always knew that this could happen to me and my country, it haunted me all the years, when I gained my adult consciousness.
And now, when it's already happening, it's a nightmare for real.
Realizing that this could happen in the coming years, this accelerated me to implement decisive actions.
But I f*cking screwed up!
The most important thing that I DID NOT EVEN THINK about is.. isolation from the OUTSIDE.
This.. you have no idea how funny this really is.
Cancel an entire nation?? How do you like that, huh?
Twitter nervously smokes on the sidelines, you guys are dismissed!
Freedom and democracy they say? For whom exactly?
It is clear that every country must take care of its citizens, no doubt! But we live in a time of unprecedented globalization. In order to achieve the ALL prosperity of mankind, we need to work towards this ALL TOGETHER. You can't just take a huge piece of land off the planet and forget it exists! We need you, and you need us! Regardless of circumstances, religions, politics and squabbling over a piece of resources!
Earth doesn't care. It has no boundaries, it's a f*cking round BALL.
And if you can't come to terms with this elementary fact, and the fact that one way or another we HAVE to cooperate, then I don't even know.. Maybe you should at least think about it before writing another racist insult on the Internet, or forcing an entire company to close, leaving tens of thousands of people without income?
Maybe it's some kind of "multi-way"? A secret plan hidden from everyone's eyes? If the plan is to starve the Russian population into insanity, then it's a bad plan lol!
First - give us everything, cooperate with us, smile, and then TAKE IT ALL IN ONE F*CKING WEEK.
Refugees from Ukraine, refugees from Russia (who had the opportunity and have already done it), this is the price. Who will pay for it? Citizens of other countries? Is there enough space for everyone? What do you think?
As history shows, neither "democracy" nor the "new marvelous Russian world" bring people anything but destroyed infrastructure and death.
But who asks us, right? heh.
Success and a well-fed life lull vigilance. Have you ever, in your life, at least once, thought that you will have to cross out your "cultural code" in order to access a better life? If not, congratulations, you are happy person, please keep up! (no sarcasm)
I know that even in the most "well-fed" countries there are poor people, and the grass is the same color everywhere. But that's not exactly what I mean.
It's all about potential and opportunities.
The fewer of them, the sooner a person will leave their homes in search of a worthy fate.
This cannot be changed, we all strive to cover our needs. This is the key to the survival of our species. It's just another fact.
We have only just begun to recover from Covid. It was a worldwide shock. Didn't you suffer enough? I personally have had enough.
Russia is a long-suffering but multifaceted country. Here you will not find any single comprehensive truth.
But even in the circumstances in which we were, we strived for prosperity (by "we", so you understand, I mean ordinary harmless civilians).
I sincerely believed that our country would one day come to an independent solution to our "Dwarf" problem, if you know what I mean. It doesn't matter where I was at that moment - whether I managed to leave and watch from the "outside", or still lived here.
I wouldn't say that we didn't need outside help at all. But by "help," I didn't mean what's going on right now.
This is not help. It's the complete opposite of it.
I'm afraid to imagine what will happen if it drags on longer than a couple of months. This will be the collapse of a whole huge country. It's a thousand steps back. Those steps that we took with such difficulty. Each of us. Little by little.
This is the instant degradation and savagery of EVERYTHING. Consciousness of people, technology, business, trade, law.
It was not sweet for us anyway, but what will happen now?..
People will run. In their last pants with one dollar in their pocket, they will run.
There will be no more bloody revolution on a national scale. All our opposition is ordinary educated intellectuals. Violence is unacceptable for us. Are we too soft? Maybe. But is it really bad?
But who will be the first to grab a weapon? Do you know what kind of people they are? I think it doesn't need to be explained.
And for those who don't run away, what are the chances that they will be the right people who will be able to fix the situation?
History is cyclical, and if a whole country, especially such a huge one as Russia, is FORCED to change in an "unnatural" way, this does not lead to anything good. That was 100 years ago, and it will continue to be so.
Not everyone has yet realized the consequences. But unfortunately, when awareness comes, and the veil of anger falls from the eyes, the world will change forever by that moment.
Or not, Idk ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I ask you sincerely, do not write nasty things in the comments.
If it seemed to you that this appeal was PERSONALLY addressed to you, then it seemed to you :)

I do seriously hope though that through all this bloodshed and horribleness, the world will be a better place. I’d like to think that the age of the dictator and oppression is over, even with all this horrible stuff going on.
In the end, I feel terrible for you. You should not have to suffer the consequences of "Mr. Bald Guy's" reckless behavior & iron fist of a government. You should not have to constantly worry of what payment methods will be allowed. You should not have to live in fear of being imprisoned for saying the "wrong" opinions. You should be allowed to leave your country if it becomes as destitute as it has. You should not have to worry about the safety of your friends & family in Ukraine, Russia, and elsewhere. You DO NOT deserve any of this--you are innocent!
I hope everything returns to normal and that you can resume your ability to prosper. No tyrant rules forever, and "Mr. Bald Guy's" time is running out. Things may be very bad right now, but as long as there are good people in the world, it will not last forever. Russia will become a free nation again, someday, somehow.
Every other country must turn inwards and try to determine: what is best for our country? What is least painful for Russia?
This was the choice. You cannot TRULY sanction the leader of a country. It's equivalent to putting him in time out. There will ALWAYS be people in the country who can back him up, who can give him the things he needs. Sanctions do not even hurt his pride.
The other choice would be war. The leaders in the rest of the world have decided that it is the wrong choice for every country involved due to the volatile nature of the leader in question. And the kicker, what people in Russia do not seem to understand because they are not in Ukraine right now dealing with war, is that it would be MUCH worse. No longer would be it a question of; 'where will my money come from? should I start a garden?' and instead it will become; 'will I be shot today? will my home be bombed? will my partner be forcibly placed in a battle they don't support? what will be destroyed? will there even be anything left to rebuild?' I have heard some Russians say; 'We already live this way!' but it is not. the. same. And frankly, it is shameful to say that it is.
Your political climate is bad, your economy is bad... But it is not war in your lands.
In Russia, you have no one to blame but your leader. Do not blame other countries. Do not blame other leaders. Blame your leader, because your leader and your leader alone did this.
My heart goes out to Russians, it really does - but my heart goes out to the people of Ukraine even more so.
It is what I choose to believe, it is, what I will do my best to survive for — simply to see what's on the other side and, hopefully, see a different Russia, with different people at head.
But before this happens, things here will inevitably become much, much worse.
This coordinated attack takes the appearance of a firewall; though it's not an actual firewall, rather it is tit for tat retaliations. Companies like Facebook are changing their rules and allowing for violence to be called for against Russians and Russia has banned them for it. Paypal is cutting off Russia, Pornhub cut off Russia; it's constant retaliations. Russia will not be cut off from the world even if a firewall were being built; there are too many ways to connect in and out and too many smart cookies inside and out that can keep the data flowing. There is also disruptive malware being used in cyber attacks which isn't helping connectivity.
One of the most powerful votes people have is their wallet and people are indeed voting for and against corporate actions. Vista outdoors, Ammo Inc (ammo vendors), lost my business, Coca-cola is severely diminished and I'll be replacing VISA with cash within a few days hopefully. There is push-back on the corporations attacking Russia and even though it won't be enough to stop the war, or topple the ruling class & CEOs, we don't have to be party to their actions nor enable them. Ammo/weapon vendors that sent ammo to Ukraine are being figuratively burned at the stake.
I do believe that Russia will be better off in the long run from these events; being more independent of the US dollar and western financial institutions. It's going to be rough but already I see every day Russians are planting gardens again, returning to home manufacturing, etc. Russia will endure, it will survive because the people are strong. Even now, Russia and India are working on trading oil in Rubles which will help strengthen the currency and tighten relations. The US is ultimately harming itself the most with the weaponization of the US dollar and China is taking notes, as is the rest of the world; people want alternative solutions.
It may be outside the scope of your journal post but if either the Ruble or the Yuan get backed with gold, all of the western economy is done, kaput, finished. If that backing happens, WW3 will be inevitable.
It's very difficult to get factual news anymore and propaganda is just one of those reasons. Take comfort in knowing modern conflicts and wars are short compared to those of old, this war will not continue for long unless it expands and there are many parties trying to expand it for the profits and power they might gain from doing so. The west is fatigued from war and those calling for more have overplayed their hand; there is a great deal of resistance. That said, it WILL end, and people all over the world will be in line to help Russia and Ukraine rebuild. The sun rises, it sets, and tomorrow it will rise again. Prosperity comes and goes and it shall come again.
Sending good vibes to all countries involved.
But no matter where you are, we live in a system where greed is rewarded. Be it greed for money, power or something else,
We could do so much more, but it isn't profitable, so it won't be done.
P.S. 'We' as in 'humanity'
I hope things get better for you guys soon.
Now you see them, The Ukrainians. In 2014. They are scared of loosing what they just gained. They see the propaganda from both sides, no doubt that. But that makes them scared. They want protection. Russias protection? After thex just "confiscated" a big chunk of their country? Of course they lean towards Europ.
What i want to say with this is that the russian government is at basically sole fault for this escalation. The government. Not the people. A government that would most likeley not ecxist if freedom of speech and expression would be available in Russia just as it was in Ukraine. A government that stays in power with utter violence. A government that does all of this bullshit on the back of its own people. The "west" has an easy game there, they dont even really need "Propaganda", they literally just need to tell what happens.
And what happens next is this useless bullshit war that nobody except the ego of very few needed. A war that managed to do something within days that before was not archieved within 20 years: Unifying Europ and making it much stronger. Exactly what putin needs, as a "foe". To distract from all the sweet internal problems even more.
I throw in an allegideley here, stating that its my opinion. - S
I do not fully agree with the sanctions placed on Russia, I feel awful about how devastating they are to the average Russian citizen.
But on the other side of the coin, something has to be done to choke Putin's resources and stop his plans. And it seems it's either sanctions, or bring real war into Russia which will also risk nuclear warfare - and I don't think anyone wants nuclear warfare.
But that doesn't make it okay.
I think the rest of the world hopes that by starving the Russian population, forcing them from their homes and making them desperate, they will eventually start a revolution to overthrow Putin - and it's true, the Russian population are the only ones who can do this - but it is not a good solution. And the way the rest of the world is trying to force them to to do it is disgusting. The Russian people are innocent, they have done nothing wrong, and yet they are the ones we are punishing.
But at the same time, what other choice do we have? We can't just sit back and allow Putin to keep bombing Ukraine.
But I do not think anyone in Russia needs to fear true isolation. I do not believe the internet will be completely removed from Russia - the impact of that would be catastrophic and there is no benefit to it. It would be completely senseless.
I think you will always be able to reach the world outside of Russia, and even if you feel shameful of your country's actions - or not - no one with a heart and a brain will blame you, or mock you, or be nasty towards you. And if they are, you'll know already they're simply not worth talking to.
And should things get unbearably worse and you have to leave Russia if you can, many countries around the world will accept and help Russians as much as Ukrainians.
No one needs to be alone in these times. The way forward is together. The world still hears.
