Tonight's Movie - Redline

Gabe Newell once opined that piracy is a service problem. I can see why he said that.
Redline was a film I've wanted to see for years, but could never find it available at a reasonable price. Having finally seen the film, I can say that it's good.
The first thing I noticed is that the film is gorgeous. You could take almost any frame of this film and it'd make a great poster, or at very least a good PC wallpaper. If you've not seen it, do an image search. It's amazing. Definitely watch the blu ray version if you can.
Despite the main character being a human driving a trans-am, there's a lot of imagination in the vehicle designs, as well as the alien creatures that make up many of the racers. Then there's the music and sound, which is also great. I can see some of the soundtrack making it into my regular playlists.
The plot features an illegal race called Redline. The film opens with the prior race, Yellowline. This opening scene is pure adrenaline, and it's fantastic. Despite failing to quality, some of the other Redline racers drop out, meaning he gets to take their place. Unfortunately, it hits a bit of a slow patch after. That's not to say it's bad. Some of the scenes are fun, and they make sense given the plot. Talking to other racers, introducing the villains, that sort of thing, its just that it feels like it drags on compared to the rest of the film. In a way, it sets a high bar early on that falling a little short of that standard stands out.
Anyway, the Redline race is going to take place on the militaristic Roboworld, and they aren't happy about the race being there. The final third of the film is the titular Redline race, and the attempts by the president of Roboworld to stop them.
All in all, it looks great, sounds great, and the races are great. It's a fun and memorable film, well worth watching.
