So long and thanks for all the fish

First things first.
No I am not leaving the furry fandom. I have been in this fandom 30 goddamned years and I am not about to quit now.
What has happened over the past few months.. is.. inspiring and heart breaking at the same time.
1) We had to put down our dog Diego. He was an old boy that we had for 12 years and he was either 2-3 when we had him or more so .. 14-17 years old? His hips gave out on him and we gave him an at home service where he was put to sleep. He seemed to smile when he went.. god I miss that doggo. The next do we get is going to be a PUPPY so we can teach him and watch him grow and hopefully he'll love to play.
2) I was working for a place called Conduent.. I fucking quit that job and have been working for Voter Registration since February. Most of the time this place is pretty chill but one of the recent events pissed me off as we have four teams and one team wasn't doing shit and when we called them out on it one of the people said "Let the manager come and tell us to do that!" I heard that and I was PISSED. So much in fact when THEY needed OUR help.. I left. It was close to quitting time anyway.. so fuck it.
3) Birthday was March 3rd and I got a Horseplay Toys Roo that a good friend gave to me. Other than that my 53rd b-day was forgettable.
4) The point of the title of this post.
We're leaving CA.
We're done.
The house appraised for 425,000 and we have an offer for 450,000. We got new carpet, landscaping was done , the guest bathroom is being repainted and had gotten a new vanity. The whole nine yards. Where are we going? Fort Wayne, Indiana. Houses are cheap, the job market is good and cost of living is LOW.
CA is a nice state.... to visit. Living here? Fuck that. It's too goddamned expensive and the people are getting ruder EVERY single day. I have lost count how many times someone has been rude to me FNAR. I am so done with it. And the drivers? No. Fuck that shit. NO ONE knows how to drive out here.
So the plan is to sell the house, get money, pack our shit in a POD and move to Fort Wayne and look for a house. We have seen stuff in the 150-200k range and if we walk away with 280k (which is possible RN!) we will be SO far ahead of the game it won't even be funny.
California is the place you wanna be? Sure. If you're rich to enjoy it. Otherwise find a new place. And that's what we're doing.
I am nervous and excited at the same time. Scared too. But fuck it.. you live once.. and if we can find a forever home and get jobs, roommates and have money left over?
Yeah.. worth that risk.
Love y'all.
Johnny

Sorry to hear about your dogger, sounds like he lived a nice full life though so there is nothing to be sad about. Went through the same thing 2.5 years ago, my guy was 16 and also had bad hips and dementia in top of that. Now I have two 2yr old huskies who I got as puppers, they are the most fun dogs I ever had :)
Best of luck to you!
and best of luck with your move.
