question about vr addons
I've been thinking about upgrading my vr setup, like having a better headset for vr and an upgrade for better tracking for vrchat and other games like beatsaber and derail valley.

If you have a good PC and a good budget, I'd recommend Valve Index. It's what I use and it's really nice

I already have a headset, I have the oculus rift s

Gotcha, by better tracking, you mean 360 tracking, or Full-Body Tracking?

Well if possible both

Alright, Rift S can't really provide 360 tracking and I believe the Rift CV1 is discontinued, so the best bet would be either an HTC Vive, or an Index with lighthouse tracking. It would also add support for FBT using additional vive tracker pucks and straps.

So the rift s can't be upgrades to have the better tracking and full body tracking

Unfortunately no, since it uses internal tracking rather than external tracking

So the rift s is basically a locked platform for any upgrades, so i need to get a new headset in order to use any of the better features

Full body tracking also requires base stations at this time, which will cost about $150 each (which will be an extra $300 on top of the cost of the trackers and straps) even if you do use a headset that uses internal tracking. It is possible to get it working with the rift S if you have base stations, but at that point you might be better off getting the whole headset upgrade.

Ah I see now so it's better to just upgrade the whole system to a new headset entirely
