I've got a very specific model I've been wanting made for over a year now, the modeler in question finally got the drive to get back into it and now I wait for them to get back to me on it

I'm in the same boat. Just got into VR a few weeks ago, and the potential is insane. I don't want just any old protogen model colored to look like mine. I want my protogen model, that I made, and is literally sculpted exactly to my spec, that way my little beepy friend can look snazzy alongside a fully rigged/modeled 3D version of my main fursona, and I can play around as them in a world that I built and designed, instead of compromising with what's already available.

I think Blender might be a good program to learn if you want to either model or just edit a base model. Its free and theres a lot of tutorials for it. I started using it about 2 months ago and its come a long way from how it used to be.

Oh yeah for sure! I used to use Blender from time to time, but life's been absurdly busy. Just need to dust off the rust and get back into that for a bit before I deep dive in "How to Not Suck Horrendously at Topology" :P

Highly recommend not to upload your personal avatars and use them in public, avatar rippers might rip it and use it themselves or sell them as assets~

Do you just upload them as test avatars then?

Test avatars only you can see them, but not others,
Best recommendation is to use your personal avatars only with your closest friends, making sure no one is gonna rip your avatar from randoms or a friend of a friend, since trust me, friend drama often happens when a friend of a friend start having issues with friend of friend, so even that environment cannot be trusted lol~

OMG! Well totally keep it up -- mine is a model ripped from one of the games, and it looks "fine", but tbh I'd rather see her in a more expressive artstyle anyway...

LOL. It was kind of a secret but i've been making decent progress on it and planned on showing it off later. Still im a little impressed with the model and realized I dont know much about bump maps or different materials yet and I was still impressed with how well the tail was rigged. It seems to move smoothly

Thanks! This one actually doesn't even have a bump map (I was considering it, but was too lazy...), but it does have different amounts of shininess on different parts of the model, which adds a lot. The funny thing about the tail physics is that actually, I spent a while getting all the different jiggle physics set right on all the other body parts, but the tail is the one thing that already looked perfect with the default settings, LOL. Still had to be careful with the bone weights so that it would bend smoothly without distorting the rings, though...
