https://www.furaffinity.net/view/55619625/ I have made the cardinal sin- I left my US social security number in my wallet and it was 2 weeks ago that while I was exercising at a place not known for crime, someone broke into my locker and stole my wallet. It was definitely a theft as my lock was gone, someone took my clothes to a bathroom stall to search for anything of value, and left them there without my wallet. I was able to freeze my cards right away and got a replacement driver's licence with Real ID to travel anywhere, go to courts and to be at military bases. The old one does not have this, but with the SSN with that ID, I'm in IMMENSE TROUBLE because today, someone tried to to open an account with my name to a credit card company. THAT DEVASTATED ME.
I don't know, having to have this happen to me, because I may have to be scrutinized for such purchases that may cost lots of money, I may have to give up having to have another fursuit as they can cost US$2400 to have, and now having to contact my credit report companies, they will put a possible freeze on any new applications for credit or block me from any such transactions that I would like to do. At least the police and the banks are investigating this matter, and I will be fighting a lot perhaps forever to get my credit score up and to even get my first house and/or second car.
Honestly, what do you see me as? After these big mishaps, I feel that I'm an easy target for robbers and I'm scared. I don't know how I will be in this cruel world as it seems that I'm an unaware person and even naïve despite that I'm highly educated. Upcoming, I will officially go to commencement to a college, but for what?! There is no degree for the school of hard knocks, so UGH. I feel so emotionally unstable that I would go as far as cutting myself on the elbow. If you ask me if I'm happy with life now, I'm at 36% happy and getting more miserable with life.

Make sure you freeze your credit scores and put in the ID theft notice to prevent people from signing up for anything with your SSN.

It's not that you're an easy target, it just happens when you've been alive long enough. Statistics and all that.
The best you can do is take steps to reduce your exposure to such things. When I visit the gym, the only thing I put in the locker is my work shoes and my coat. Everything else either goes into the cup holder on the treadmill, or stays in my pockets if no such holder is available. Even if you take preventative measures, though, you'll still get hit eventually. Just be aware of it and know what to do when it happens.
Good luck, and well wishes.
Thanks for your care.
