It's still so weird pixiv did that the site used to be infamous for how lenient it was with censorship

It's lenient in terms of content matter, but you do still need to censor out dicks and vaginas and buttholes because of Japanese censorship laws.

You used to not have to do that though

Naw, you always had to do that, it's literally Japanese censorship *law*, they have to follow it or get hounded by the cops.

The only workaround is that if you make an "album" post and only censor the topmost image that shows in your gallery, it's unlikely that the site moderators will catch on because they don't have the time or care to poke open every collection.
