If I were to expand Biggest Fan into a novel, how would I do it? It seems to be the most recent thing I wrote that’s gotten some attention, so here are my thoughts.

The short story is paced as a short story. Would need a more gradual buildup to the big stuff.

Extend the conversation in the car. They really do need to talk more about this stuff, as it’s pretty heavy.

Expand the conversation after the movie. They’re jerking off together and father is getting off hearing about all the shit his son is doing, maybe wishing he’d been that adventureous when he was his age.

Fill the time gap between the movie and the video with something else. Maybe mom comes home and everyone catches up.

Ethan has the idea to frame it for his channel as a reveal video. Like, hey subscribers, I think my son has a crush on me. The whole thing blows up, and Ethan wants to continue , but dad is nervous about putting this out there.

What happens next? Where is this going? It becomes a hit series. Most of the time they’re not staging it, but father is worried where this is going. Son isn’t concerned at all and is all in on making money putting their sex lives on camera for all to watch, like a soap opera. Meanwhile, yeah, Roscoe’s marriage is falling apart but not in a bad way. They both seem fine with parting ways, so what does that make him and Ethan?

Ethan strikes me as eager to go along with things, not thinking of the future, whereas Roscoe is very much concerned about where all of this is going and if it could hurt his son’s chance at getting employment in the future. Could be an interesting dynamic to explore.

I’m unsure where it goes, or what the point is. It could have something to say about social media. Dadcest is not really my thing, but to explore the possibility could be fun.
