Fursuit Head Adjustment Recommendations
3 years ago
Hey folks! I was wondering if anyone could recommend some skilled, professional fursuit makers that are open to take on repairs or adjustments for heads?
I’m looking for someone to carve out some extra foam inside my fursuit head so it fits better. It’s a pretty tight fit . I don’t know if it’s possible, but I thought I should ask !
I would send it back to my maker, but I’m afraid to send it overseas again ;;
Any response to this is appreciated!

you can carve out little bits with scissors or an exacto knife, trying it on after each bit removed, and stop when you feel it's better! if you mess up it's so easy to add more foam to it, usually upholstery foam is used, you can get a giant roll at walmart for <$20.
the most important thing is just to make sure you don't make the foam TOO thin, which would make it unstable, fragile, or ruin the shape. you can place one hand inside the head, one on the outside, and press your hands together to feel how thick it is, probably 1/2in is the very thinnest I would go, and also account for the fluff of the fur which can add 1/3 - 1in of bulk depending on the type and shaving style.
I hope this helps!! :3
with fabric inside there's just a few extra steps. inside there should be a part where the lining fabric is sewn to the fur, very carefully cut in a big circle around the neck to separate the fur from that fabric, and leave maybe 3/4in or so. I personally don't have lining in two out of three heads I have/am making, I have been to several cons with them and don't think it affects the wearability much, it's usually just for looks or to make it look a bit more professional.
so depending on if you care or not, you can either take out the inside lining by carefully tearing it out, and leaving the inside that way with exposed foam (it's going to feel really scary, and it will make ripping noises, but I promise it'll be fine!! a little foam will come off with the lining, but if you're careful it won't be a lot, and that might even help make fitting it easier when carving), OR you can reline the inside after fitting it. I am not very good at that part, but there should be several tutorials for lining the inside of the fursuit head on the net. if you don't reline it, you can clip that extra 3/4in of lining edge off, or you can fold it over and glue it to make a rounded edge that will be more comfortable against you when wearing. if you do reline it, then that 3/4in of lining edge can be sewn to the edge of your new lining to connect them.
I hope this is helpful again!! :3c
